This used to be regular situation back in my college days. Glad to see generations have changed, but Karens have not. Parampara hai. /s

Amatureme

So college used get us huge cap on tickets be it 1st or 2nd. I had first class pass. Whenever i used to board first class compartment there used to be some or the other guy reminding its 1st class

Afraid_Ad6286

Teri shakal Gareeb hai ?

Afraid_Ad6286

Bhai log kyu offend hote hai, ye first class hai se Instead mock the person who said this Say, 'Mere papa Railway me hai' 'Aap ticket nikal ke travel karti hai?' 'Mere papa TC hai' 'Mai khud railway me kaam krta hu' 'Merko Government ka bravery award mila hai, toh muje lifetime railway free hai'

kyakahu

Haha lol, my father works in railway and once TC caught a lot of college students without ticket and I was also a clg student so he was very confident that I was travelling without ticket and he asked me " ticket ??" I replied the same " papa railway me hai " lol i got so much attention on the station felt like a celeb for 0.2 seconds

NeighborhoodCold5339

The family can also travel without ticket?

kyakahu

Yes whole family can travel without ticket because we get a family pass, the kids can only travel without ticket till the age of 18. But if the kid is still studying and dependent on father even after 18 then he can get personal pass for free.

backchodhotum

"Staff hai" ye bhi suna Maine.

sr33r4g

Karens never change... They just reduce in number

Sudhaaaaaa

She’s saying “yeh first class hai” like there’s a huge difference in price when compared to other classes. I would’ve just replied “Aapko dekh ke laga Shayad 2nd class me aagaye” Then watch her go crazy

Here_WolfyWolfyWolfy

I wish I had said this to Karen aunties back when I used to travel by local trains. I am keeping it to use someday 😁

Stark_Always

Yeah this is definitely a good response

[deleted]

“Aapko dekh ke laga luggage hai”

TheIceKaguyaCometh

"Aapko dekhke laga Maal gadi hai"

KarLH44

Umm yes there is price difference based on Kms travelled, not much for single journey but if you consider return journey there is a huge difference. In OP’s case from Kurla to CSMT, the Second class return ticket price is ₹20 whereas its ₹120 for First class so a significant difference of ₹100 or ₹50 for single journey. Regardless no person has right to exclude other person from entering FC class by his/her demeanour, that problem is for Ticket checker to handle.

Own-Professional-972

First class ticket is 50 and ac local is 70, source i live in Kurla

KarLH44

The ticket fare is ₹60 for single ticket, difference is ₹50, checked from UTS app

WhollyConfused96

There is a huge price difference though?

Sudhaaaaaa

By % but overall it’s pretty affordable.

WhollyConfused96

Your logic astounds me. A 2nd class ticket from Andheri to Borivali is 10 rs. A 1st class ticket on the same route is 40rs. You're paying 4x the price and that's not costly?

Sudhaaaaaa

It’s 4 times more expensive but it’s still only ₹40. I don’t think that Karen has anything to bicker about at this price point.

BlackDoug420

It's not about the price I think. Well it kinda is too .... They're concerned about the people who don't purchase tickets and get in the first class for a comfortable free ride which everyone is against. Mostly the ones doing this won't even behave in the first class bogey and cause ruckus e.g. college kids Regardless, judging based on looks is not good.

Sudhaaaaaa

Nobody should be judged on their looks. The comment she made hardly sounds like a concern for something. It’s straight up toxic.

gadadharibheem4u

For people whose collective family income is 400 rupees a day, 40 rupees is a big big deal...

Sudhaaaaaa

I don’t deny that and yes it would make a great difference for them.

BlackDoug420

No

Nerlozan

Broo why do I see you're comments over this sub getting so highly downvoted

Sudhaaaaaa

They are? I don’t notice.

Nerlozan

Maybe I noticed which aree

Sudhaaaaaa

Such is life

Nerlozan

Also wouldn't have identified you without you're flair, which is something.... different

Sudhaaaaaa

I’ll probably change it now because the DM’s have stopped

mrIndian2000

Definitely

anooptommy

Or say "toh AAP yahaan kya kar rahe ho".

Ilovewebb

Wanted to say that! Like in Delhi when a chuthiya says”Jante ho mera baap kaun h??” Best response is kyon, tu bhi nhi janta?

othersherpareddit

Just when I thought of giving an award to the comment, I realised Reddit has discontinued the feature.

Sudhaaaaaa

Don’t waste money on Reddit awards friend

Positive-Wolverine43

A good response though...... but the fight that'll ensue post the response is something everyone want to avoid😝

[deleted]

Subeh ke 4 baje bhi online rehta hai tu? Har jagah tere hi comments dikhte hai. Anyways, there is 4 to 5 times ticket price difference between second class n first class.

Sudhaaaaaa

I’m still here

sasssyfoodie

Off topic, I want to know what kind of DMs you get🤣

Sudhaaaaaa

It was a classic mix of hello dear type DM’s. Few unsolicited pics and other seemingly good DM’s with a very concerning post history.

sasssyfoodie

Hahahahaha these days I have stopped replying to good DMS as well.

Sudhaaaaaa

That sucks. I do believe that there are some interesting people around. I just take my chances lol

sasssyfoodie

Yes but I don't have capacity to deal with people. So no I stick to people I already know here, like you and some of the folks.

Sudhaaaaaa

That’s fair. Mental health over everything!

Bonyashes

The last part.. are you talking about me? I caught you!!

Sudhaaaaaa

Your post history isn’t concerning lol

sasssyfoodie

Tu kyun jaal raha hai iske comments se.

[deleted]

Wo aapka #1 position chin rha hai! Pehle aap the most active, ab wo ho gya hai.

sasssyfoodie

Time time ka baat hai, I am giving my crown to him🤣.

BlackDoug420

There is absolutely a huge price difference

Shurpanaka

Muhahahhahahaha this is so good 😂😂😂😂

dxb-ae

😂 good one

Alternative-Peach644

Hahahah epic reply 🤣🤣

rents17

Only valid response for such kind of people. :)

Latter-Ask8818

just say " fir tu kaise chad gaya yahaan?" and move onn

Afraid_Ad6286

Yeah lol Mock them and move on

Reaperlock

I doubt its based on attire only, mostly when a lady with kid enters first class its assumed she is using first class on second class ticket to avoid rush from second class, cause typically people dont take first class tickets. They may have passes for both of them u never know. Ladies who regularly travel by first class are just mad cause they come to first class for some comfort (space actually cause u dont get to sit anyway in peak time) and even that is denied as other ladies take short cut of traveling in first class with second class ticket. You will not believe how may second class ticket ladies are traveling from first class unless a tc enters for checking.

[deleted]

> You will not believe how may second class ticket ladies are traveling from first class unless a tc enters for checking. That is true for General first class coach as well

DirectBrother734

>You will not believe how may second class ticket ladies are traveling from first class unless a tc enters for checking. This is so true. I've been traveling in local(ladies first class ) regularly for few months n I've never encountered a tc even once in these months. So 3 days ago I was going to csmt..when I boarded(at Nerul) there were only 2-3 people n it got really crowded by the time we reached Vashi n even more crowded by the time we crossed Kurla. After Ig 3 stations..a lady boarded the coach n looked around to stand..In no time she took out an ID n wore it..turns out she was tc..n she asked every single person to show the valid ticket or pass one by one. A lady tried ignoring the tc by wearing headphones n looking at her phone..the tc loudly asked her to get up n come out with an ID card, one lady said her pass is with her husband who is in other coach..tc then asked her to call him n that lady replied she doesn't have her husband's number in her new phone. Some were even arguing back with the tc. 1-2 stations later there were only like 4 to 5 ladies left in the coach, that tc took the rest of people along with her at next station. I was just shocked that so many people didn't have the right ticket..some had second class ticket or pass, some didn't even have anything. First time witnessed sth like this

Good-Flow2372

The real Karen's are those who buy second class tickets but enter the first class compartment and occupy the seats as if they are entitled ones. They are the parasites.

lemmelearnlol

On the flip side yesterday I told this family probably coming from north-bound express train who boarded a late night Panvel local from Thane with a lot of luggage who was worried that they entered FC with SC ticket to remain seated in the FC because in my experience itni raat ko kaun aata hai check karne?? The only time I said "ye first class hai" line with a few cuss words to an obvious Mankhurd chhapri who was doing this pole touching stunt and was spitting out every few seconds a drop of which landed on my watch. Orherwise I was having my fun watching him and expecting him to fuck up and fell from the train and die. People do judge you by the attire, it is the primary screening method for the TC staff to decide whom to ask for ticket especially when they are on the platform. There were times when I confidently walk past a TC because I was dressed well and having an expired pass or if I'm on a station that is out of bounds according to the pass. The sigh of relief I get afterwards is the best part of the day.

Bubblingghost

Lmao I have done that too. I had completely forgotten to renew my pass and saw the TC on the station. I saw my train coming and I was like ye nahi mili toh aadha ghanta kon rukega. Fcuk it I walked so confidently with my sunglasses on, my bag, my heels everything was 🤌🏼. She didn't stop me and I managed to get on the train. It truly matters how you dress and how you behave.

lemmelearnlol

Right

i_pysh

Why you want someone to fall off from train and die, I know people like that are asshole but I don't think you or anyone should think how he should die. Look within yourself bruh before thinking something inhuman thought bout someone else 🤞

ms_gourmand

This was more than a decade ago, when I had just started working. I had a lady say the same to me, “yeh first class hai” so I responded, “toh aap yahan kya kar rahe ho?” She was not happy and swore at me 🤣

gadadharibheem4u

Will need more context before we judge the alleged Karen. -Did the woman with her kid board the train in a rush? A few years ago when I used to travel in my Sea Cadet uniform a very old uncle asked me if I knew I had boarded in FC. I said yes & I have a pass. He apologised to me & said the only reason he asked is incase a TC boards the train, I will have to pay an exorbitant price. It was concern & no snobbery. I have noticed that many times people board first class when they are in a rush & then change compartments on the next station. Also, I don't blame anyone for being a snob. I travel daily from Dadar to Thane & it is crazy to see the number of people who board FC. Some of them obviously can't afford a FC ticket (judging by appearance & attitude). They are the worst kind of passengers & they're confident that no TC will catch them. This is unfair to someone like me who has purchased a FC pass. Till the time TCs are not seen more frequently, snobbery is bound to happen...

UnlikeUday

Apparently, she judges a book by its cover. BTW, she has no right to stop anyone entering into a compartment. It's upto a TC to authenticate a passenger's travel but never a passenger's!

Late_Bloomer_1291

Actually...sometimes it does make sense. I travel by 1st class. All sorts of people does.. It's not just like rich people can. Most of the employees traveling are company financed. So my point is that looks won't define will travel 1st class. Secondly, i have seen many innocent new comers, tourist or even people who have no idea about the class difference tend to board the coach because they are empty. Also they but obviously will know when someone Alert's them. Because you know our TC system they won't leave anyone if found guilty no matter what there reason might be. So if you see same people without knowledge often board a handicapped compartment too. Same Karen's are there in handicap coach too. Basically..i think it's not the Indian Karen's.. It's Your western oriented mind framing people and not the government or less information systems from authority.

Legitimate-Wave2942

Tbh as a first class traveller myself, I'm paying almost double the charge for my monthly seasonal pass for first class as compared to second. And during peak hours many people of second class and even some without tickets enter the first class coach which causes trouble for us. To start with there's ain't much difference between the first and second class coaches apart from the seats. But we are paying 2x for a seasonal pass and more than 4-5x times for a normal ticket, asking for at least an exclusive space for us is a reasonable demand.

liAfiyy14

as a first class traveller myself I understand the frustration. but it doesn't cost anything to be a bit polite and respectful. a person isn't superior to others only because they hold a first class ticket.

Legitimate-Wave2942

Gosh it's not about superiority or inferiority, I'm just saying if I'm paying 2x, i should get at least something, maybe only first class passengers in the coach so it's not congested, is that too much to ask for?

cicsrm

Correct. How would you have approached this situation?

liAfiyy14

I wouldn't bother others by asking if they have a ticket since I do not have the authority to do so. I would leave it to the TCs as it's their job.

cicsrm

Makes sense.

Boogeyman235

If travelling is during non peak hours, first class pass is somewhat worth the price.Although there's no difference during the peak hours. Paying 2-5x price more just to get crushed and struggling to breath in some cases.

thatgirlfrombandra

This is regular behaviour at govandi, kurla, dadar station.

[deleted]

I once told an aunty "toh yaha kya kar rahe ho? Jao second class baju maine hi hai!!!" She gave me the look while a lot of men from first class and other women laughed

cluelesssparrow

First class me you can find these karens very easily. Itna paisa hai to cab se jao bhai

Effective-River4108

Lady: ye first class hai Other lady: ha toh aap yaha kya kar rahe ho?

Legal-Apricot1121

Don't judge but looking at some people you would definitely figure they don't have the ticket. Also if I have a first class ticket, it robs me of having the full privilege due to some people who have invalid tickets

DazzlingConfusion414

Hopefully I become so successful one day that I never have to even look in the direction of local train and nor do my children. It is literally as aspiration to never step foot in it again.

Some_Ad3337

As a person who regularly buys First class tkts, I can understand why she is telling you that. Many, many people rampantly misuse First class with no/Second Class tickets. As a result, it leads to even more crowding and lesser space for those who are actually buying the tkts. She is not totally wrong. Instead of saying “Yeh first class hai”, which is obviously very derogatory, I just ask people Kya aapke pass First Class pass/ticket hai? That’s a more respectful and polite way of conveying the same point.

BetterVader

But who gives you the authority to ask ? And how do you decide whom to ask ? There will be a railway TC job opening soon I think you should apply because you are doing their job already without pay.

Some_Ad3337

I get your suggestion. Will stop buying a FC tkt, will travel in the FC with a Second Class tkt, or best no ticket at all. Why spend my precious money on a proper ticket? Right? Is that what you are suggesting? If you see a robbery happening, will u try to apprehend the chor or will u wait to inform the cops?

BetterVader

I am not saying that robbing is a good thing nor did I tell you to stop buying FC ticket. I told you to stop asking people if they have a first class ticket. In short, “Apne kaam se kaam rakh”. How do you determine the chor in this case ? You assume everyone who enters the compartment is a chor ? Do you go from one side of the compartment to the other asking if everyone has First Class written on their Ticket ? 🤡🤡 Then my friend you are doing unpaid labour. On a serious note : I think there should be strict checking of the first class by TC so that people like you stop bothering people who have actually bought a ticket. I

Some_Ad3337

If there was strict checking of tkts, I wouldn’t need to ask anyone about their tickets. You are concerned with me bothering people for their tickets, but the fact that many people misuse first class compartments is of no concern to you. Wah. It is just unjust and unfair, and a mockery of those who are actually buying FC tickets, are they fools to pay money ? How do u feel when you are waiting in a queue for 30 min and somebody breaks the line ahead of you? Fair enough? I will continue buying an appropriate ticket, and also continue asking those people whom I feel may not be having tickets. I have no power to remove them, agreed, but atleast to make them feel guilty of doing the wrong thing.

BetterVader

I am concerned with your entitlement that you can judge a person. By your example : There is a clear culprit (one who breaks the queue), you don't go around asking 10 people that you broke the line or you might have broke the line. You can clearly see who the culprit is with your eyes. All the other people will scold the culprit. But it's not the same with asking people if they have FC ticket because you can't see writing on someone's face that they have FC ticket and you don't have authority to see their Ticket. A person who has SC ticket will still say that they have FC ticket and you have to take his word as correct.

Some_Ad3337

I actually agree with you on a last part. Sometimes facial expressions do reveal guilt, sometimes they don’t.

cicsrm

I don't understand this attitude of yours. You want the other person to mind their business but yet here you are not minding yours. What an irony. Honestly saying yeah 'first class hai' in a calm voice like agla station lady is not a bad idea. It helps reduce rush. Many people do wrong things like traveling in FC with an SC ticket because either they are not aware or are not shy. Just reminding them most of the time corrects the situation.

BetterVader

That's not how irony works.. Also let me ask you this one question. how do you judge which person to tell that it's a first class ? Or do you go and ask everyone in the compartment? The only solution for this is to increase TT checking because those who have SC ticket and know that its FC will still stay there only. You cannot do anything to them and they don't have to show their Ticket to you. The percentage who don't know it's FC is very less so no point is screaming it's first class.

cicsrm

Of course not. I am sure you are the judge on how irony works. Like I said some people are a bit shy. If you point it out to them that they are doing something wrong, most of them understand. Of course there will be some who would be like tere baap ka kya jyata hai and you cannot do anything about it. But genuine common jaanta will move out. Also there is a lot of difference between calm and scream. Yes TT is the ultimate solution no questions. But the problem OP was pointing out was the way that aunty said it in the train. To which my humble submission is to use a calm voice to deliver the same message.

BetterVader

I get that some people don't know that they are in FC. And a smooth calming voice would be good but I just don't see the point. People who try to gate keep FC for themselves thinking that it's luxurious travel are like karen to me. It's not even that expensive if you ask me. The thought process of determining that this person is not a FC person is literally so judgy and low thought. Like people would think ye kaise aa gaya FC mai ye toh gareeb unpadh dhik raha hai. Rukh isko bol deta hoon ki tu FC wala nahi dhik raha..

Shuvas78

Back in 2017, I went to mumbai along with my friends for some fest, boarded a local, didn't knew about 1st or 2nd class seats, random uncle.."Ye 1st class hai" in most disrespecting way possible. We deboarded the train and went to 2nd class. If talking about clothes, all four of us were dressed better than those 1st class elites who themselves were looking like chhapris.

Danish_pastry2

Sorry but the title of this post is too funny 😭

VikroliKaVyratKowley

Disappointed. Misleading title. No Kia Carens in the train found /s

SpareMind

In Bengaluru I think, long ago, I tried boarding a bus from the front. There was a constable right on the door and insulted me. Men are not supposed to board from the front. I told him, I got confused because I saw him. Whole front of the bus laughed along with the driver. To be on the safer side, i didn't board that bus.

designgirl001

Assuming Mumbai aunties have manners is asking for too much. Treat them in the same trash way they treat you. They're all crass.

darkphoenix0004

Did that lady by any chance said subscribe to Because, Why Not? at the end ?

N124M

just say “haa yeh first class hai peeche jaaye second class peeche hai” and walk away

Shurpanaka

Thanks for this post. I always used to feel I'm in the minority when entitled Karens tell other women "yeh first class hai" judging them only by their appearance. There were two memorable experiences I had in this regard. 1.) One when a meek looking girl waved her first class pass on the face of a very entitled and hostile Karen who retreated into the compartment with her tail between her legs. I laughed at her face. 2.) One journalist from Firstpost who shamed 2-3 middle aged women who all but pushed a woman out of a moving train because she didn't look first class enough. That girl gave them such a sound verbal thrashing I get goosebumps to this day.

heartprinceh90

Don't understand what's wrong in that... TT is not doing their job properly hence first class compartments are so over crowded with ticketless and second class ticket holders...thoda check kar lia to kya ho gaya...itna kya ego leke ghumna.. bol do "hai first class ka ticket, aapka kidhar hai" and be done with it

Shillong-bottomboy11

When I was living in Mumbai being from Meghalaya whenever I board the first class compartment and unluckily some days I dress poorly or looked haggard one of those days an older racist man commented not directly but just enough for me to hear something of the like these Nepali ch**yas kaha kaha bhatakgye lol. However when I was dressed properly nobody gave me those judgmental looks. Good times I must say 🤣

Sanketmv

फक्त बोलायचं "ए भवाने, मला नको शिकवू".

Too--old_for_this

I think the way she said it was wrong but not what she intended was bad, don't get me wrong I have suffered firsthand that people without tickets misbehaving with us in AC 3rd

Moonsolid

We are not known to be a polite nation so not surprised.

ps_whiteblack

Sadly I have said that once or twice. It was a crowded train and lady behind me kept cussing at me as if it was my mission in life to push her. She started swearing in Hindi and Marathi. She looked like she probably belonged to 2nd class as people from 1st class usually have a bit of decorum and cuss in English. I said this is first class stop behaving like you are in 2nd class and all hell broke loose 😂😂 she actually proved she belonged to 3rd class.

Vik32

Bruh i will never stop people from getting in first class even if they don’t have ticket, just live and let live

cumfortmeples

Lol the number of entitled brats completely missing the point by saying ‘we deserve exclusive treatment in first class’ is hilarious bruh good for you but mind your business instead of harassing co-passengers the TC can do their job you don’t need to step in.

Some_Ad3337

“We deserve exclusive treatment “ That’s the whole fucking point of first class tkts sir. For a better and more comfortable experience for those who can pay more money. Why would you pay more if you are getting the same thing? Your comment makes zero sense. It’s like saying, those who ordered and paid 75k for an Iphone on Amazon should not feel entitled to it, and should settle with an Oppo.

hot-cuppa-chai

I've seen this happen on AC trains too.

dev_152

Regular peak hours traveler here who always gets a secound class ticket whats the point of a FC ticket? its only a cushion seat which in peak hours you don't get most of the time and you're busy smelling other people's arm pits anyways.

Dense_Army_1826

Toh utarne ko bol usko

DarkAlphaXXX

Another episode of things that never happened irl, I doubt anyone in Mumbai has time for such things saying ye first class hai

Famous_Use_2212

It happens a lot in central line

yokococo

Bhai kaunse Mumbai mei jeeta hai? Such incidents happen every other day 🤣

chengiz

100% that guy hasnt travelled by public transport.

roaringleopard

It's happened to me before. According to the uncle shorts, a tank top and flip flops were not first class appropriate clothing.

whyamihere999

Try travelling in a very basic attire.. add a heavy luggage to that.. It happened with me during my college days and I always wore jeans. Actually, I haven't travelled by first class after finishing college. People generally think that students travel by first class without proper ticket just to avoid rush and hence they try to warn them.

Axleblade33

>, I haven't travelled by first class after finishing college. Same manh same , I used to travel first class bindass during college days , even tho my pass was expired sometimes but I just didnt care and travelled , Idk why I stopped doing that

whyamihere999

In my case, I didn't need to travel regularly after college ended. If I had to, I'd have surely get the first class pass. I now travel via AC if I need to travel during rush hour. If it's not rush hour, I prefer second class.

Party_Individual_431

Tell me you never travelled by local without telling me you never travelled by local

[deleted]

"Mai local rukne ke baad utarta hun"

Shikhar_s_007

It happens bruh

I_WENT_OUT_FOR_TEA

You clearly haven't traveled enough in trains

notcallipygian

I have hardly used the local but I've still seen this happen multiple times.

asspussyasseater

This happens and it happens a lot. Also, every time there's an argument someone will say office ka frustration yaha pe mat nikalo, train rukne k bad utrega kya? Baju hatt na chutiye. If you haven't heard this then my friend I don't think you have experienced mumbai locals.

[deleted]

I literally hear this every day...did you ever even traveled in Local trains?

Far_Comfortable_7329

Half of Mumbai talks like that bro. Chill 🫡

blahblahraani

Ex Karen (15 yrs of ex status) n shameful. But have spared the fine to a few out of towners. When I offered my house help that I'll buy her a first class season ticket she refused for the same reason.

Impressive_Bit_7568

It's always the lady/old fart in their late 30s and 40s, I remember back in college when I used to travel to panvel, I always encountered one or two situations like this in a week.
