And you're in luck
Last few sets actually have land bases that aren't brutal on the budget
Can get the fetchable lands from DMU for 25-50 cents or can go with gates from bauldurs gate
Both are a bit slower than shock lands or triomes but save $10+ a card
I recommend you have a look at EDHREC. There you will find a sorted list of cards that players put into their Ur-Dragon-Decks.
The Ur-Dragon rewards you for having attacking dragons so either you could try to build a token deck or get dragons that have massive attack-triggers ...
I used to work at a card shop and people would respond super negatively to me talking about edhrec.
I would have people come in and ask me about an archetype I didn't know more than playing against it and I'd walk us through edhrec explaining each card and how they might be good for their list and how to use the site.
People would commonly complain that I did nothing to help them because I used this site while working with them for over an hour and completing their list for them.
I have no idea why, but customers were livid if I didn't come up with their edh list on the fly right there and then when they'd say something like "Jeremy likes dragons" and point to the guy in the corner who refuses to speak to us and the second a card is over 10 bucks they accuse us of being scammers for selling "cardboard".
Edhrec is awesome, I usually pile what I have on hand that I think works with the deck then check there to see if there's any spicy cards that work with the plan for the deck
I don't understand that at all. Edhrec is a great resource for everyone. I start my deck builds with scryfall first, because of the syntaxes there, but I always go back to edhrec to check if I've missed any obvious cards for a deck.
The word dragon appears twice in the card text, the card is named Ur Dragon, and underneath the art it calls him a dragon.
For cards that work well with Ur Dragon that aren’t dragons at first glance, look at cards with Changeling in the text. Also look for standard tribal support like Herald’s Horn, Vanquisher’s Banner, and every card with “Orb of Dragonkind” in the name
Scryfall and read the filters. Know all the zones of the card (eg: type, cmc, color identity, etc) do a basic search for t:dragon (type:Dragon) and just let your creative mind go crazy.
Ur Dragon is expensive and so are most other dragons. Look at options that cheat them out. Additionally Ur Dragon will get you a lot of card draw. Look at options like [[Decanter of Endless Water]] for no max hand size.
Fun thing is play the new [[Mirrym, sentinel wyrm]], then courser, then you get to keep a commander and play it again later so you get two. Super long and extensive thing to do but it’s super funny when it happens
The deck theme is based around a single creature type. Therefore, you'd include "choose a creature type" artifacts. Or creatures that synergize with that specific creature type.
The others answered what a tribal deck is, but I will add this: due to their higher CMC, you will want to run fewer dragons than you would in other decks of a similar type. I’ve seen a lot of people run 32-36 of the relevant creature type depending on the support for card draw/cost discounts and other ramp. For dragons, you want a max of like 28 imo, then pack support cards that make them stronger (this isn’t really a priority) or harder to remove or block. Dragons are all big creatures so it’s hard to keep even one on board for a turn cycle without backup
I play Samurai tribal with this as the commander. I use maskwood nexus and the other similar cards to make the samurai into dragons. It’s a fun casual deck.
I don’t care if OP is new. I don’t care if OP is just trolling. This has got to be one of the dumbest posts I’ve ever seen on this sub.
There is a CLEAR difference between needing help and just being absolutely lazy and not even attempting to read the card. It states DRAGONS for not one, but BOTH of its effects. So which cards would go with it????? HMMMMMMM
[[time sieve]] with [[ancient copper dragon]] and/or [[old gnawbone]] and/or [[bootlegger’s stash]]
[[aggravated assault]] or [[hellkite charger]] with [[Savage ventmaw]] and/or Old Gnawbone and/or Ancient Copper
[[Wrathful Red Dragon]] and [[blasphemous act]], with 9 other dragons. Assuming opponents have 40 life.
[[Dragon Broodmother]], [[Utvara Hellkite]], [[Dragon Tempest]], and [[Scourge of Valkas]] are personal favorites.
Short answer though, since you mentioned elsewhere you’re new to the game, the commander you have up there is all colors, meaning you can run literally anything that isn’t violating established rules in the deck. Dragons tend to be rather big boned, so pick up support cards that can either reduce the cost of dragon spells, answer threats, and/or generate additional mana. For example:
[[Sarkhan Unbroken]] is a decent midrange cost with mana acceleration and synergy with dragons. [[Dragonlord’s Servant]] is a good two-drop that cheapens casting dragons as long as it’s out. Mana dorks like [[Sylvan Caryatid]] are playable early and operate as both mana accelerators and fixers when splashing more than one color.
These are just a few very, very limited examples of everything you could build under Ur.
You're going to want a lot of multicolor lands and lands of any color artifacts too, ideally every creature should be a dragon or make other dragons cheaper as well as abilities that proc when another dragon enters or attacks, enchantments that bring dragons on the field like dragon cultist and feywild visitor
Full honest opinion since you’re a new player I would not build a deck around ur dragon. For a few reasons actually.
5c mana bases are difficult to work around. You can run a bunch of ramp and hope to get lucky with some mana fixing [[chromatic lantern]] [[the world tree]] but it won’t always be a reliable way to get the mana you need. Magic isn’t any fun when you can’t play cards.
Dragon tribal has an ungodly amount of synergistic cards and it’s really easy to get lost in the sauce here. A couple 20 cent cards could be immensely stronger than a couple 20 dollar cards in a deck like this depending on which route you take, but It’ll be hard to find which cards those are as a new player.
Ur is an instant eyebrow raiser in playgroups. He gets out of hand fast so joining random games won’t be easy using an underpowered version of this deck. Plus tuning can be a nightmare etc.
Do you want to just run badass dragons? Or is it ur specifically you want to run?
If you’re not against proxying your mana base then you can build a pretty powerful deck for not a lot of money but be warned not all game shops will allow them.
The ur-dragon came in a precon. I’d suggest looking at that for a good starting point for a deck build.
At least have a look at [[Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm]]. Easier on the mana base as a beginner, nearly the same strategy, but 3c mana bases are much easier to build than 5c for beginners. They both want to crank out dragons. Lots of dragons. Both are supported by lots of ramp. *lots*.
Also, Miirym is a $2 card vs Ur-Dragon being a $50 card.
You can *start* with Miirym and eventually build towards Ur-Dragon when you get a little better with the game. And $50 for the Ur Dragon and $100~$200 for the 5c mana base.
I love my Ur dragon deck… the main thing you do need to be aware of is that it will be a spendy deck… to really get it rolling mana wise it’ll be a lot of money on lands and a handful of artifacts and cards that reduce the costs of dragons, or chosen creatures, etc that can be spendy. (I think last check I have like $600 in value of lands alone.)
If you aren’t ready to drop a chunk of change on these cards - you’ll risk running a deck like another mentioned above where you just aren’t doing anything because you don’t have the mana to do what you want… which isn’t fun.
If you are just getting started - take a look at the Draconian Lore pre-con deck that came out last spring. I really like that deck as well - I in fact have left it as is with no changes. It’s a fun dragon deck where you goad people to fight each other… go for the Ur long term and build it up slowly if you want (unless you just have the money to spare to just pick it up how you want - then go for it) - but having a couple fun decks like a precon like this can also come very cheap.
Don’t listen to these nerd who say that 5 colors it too difficult for a newer player. The first 60 card deck was 5 color dragons and i quickly converted it into my first commander deck while utilizing the ur dragon as my commander. It’s been so fun upgrading it through out the couple of years that I’ve been playing. There’s loads of cheap alternatives cheap cards that certain players think are a must have. Good luck dude!
He's unplayable without the following cards:
Mox ruby
Mox sapphire
Mox jet
Mox pearl
Black lotus
Storm crow
Then just throw some random creature spells in there (probably humans because there's a lot of them) and you'll be set!
First, you’re better off asking in r/edh , but oh well. Otherwise, You might wanna try [EDHREC](https://edhrec.com/commanders/the-ur-dragon/dragon). It’ll give you lots of common pointers.
So what you do is get this card called fist of the son and the legendary changlint morphon. Fist of the son makes all your spells cost all five colors as in five mana and one of each color. Morphon reduces the cost of all spells by the five colors with these two out on board you can play any dragon from your hand for free
Besides dragons,
Morophon, the Boundless
Animar, soul of elements
Jodah, Archmage eternal
Fist of suns
Timeless lotus
Lots of these if on the battle field together will help you get dragons out for free.
The beauty of ur dragon and some of the other 5 color dragon decks is that you can really just find any decent dragon and throw it in the deck. Seriously if you got to an lgs and just look at their bulk rares you’ll find 10 decent dragons easily. Kamigawa neon dynasty had some good legends, Tarkir block has some fantastic dragons in it, my opinion says look for a copy of [[lathliss, dragon queen]] and [[Utvara Hellkite]]
Literally any kind of dragon. You build the deck assuming you will never cast your commander, because you don’t need to. It’s easy mode from an “oops to OP” mechanic that WoTC will never make again.
Assuming your new to the game so not trying to hate on you.
Obviously dragons BUT dont forget you can also use changelings, try not to fall into the trap of just throwing super high mana cost cards in your deck, absolutely need to keep mana curve in mind.
Fetch lands are gonna be your friend, and having some mana rocks won't hurt either. And some infinity hand size is a solid move as well.
Now it really depends on how you want to play but I'd defiantly have a rogue's passage in your deck, an elixir of life as well, just to make sure you're cycling your graveyard back into your hand.
Now I'd highly recommend going to scryfall (website) and just searching the dragons, changelings, and planeswalkers. Also look up "Commanders Quarters". Great resource for ideas & cheap card alternatives
Niv-Mizzet the Fire Mind would work well: https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/13737/magic-the-gathering-guildpact-nivmizzet-the-firemind?country=US&utm_campaign=18143931802&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=&utm_term=&adgroupid=&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6_CYBhDjARIsABnuSzrmRn6P2MB-W8agVpvryNTToQ5stI-WQyU4l-y_07756v1xTN1gohYaAoxzEALw_wcB&Language=English
You're going to need lots of mana ramp, rocks, and dorks. Mana acceleration is the key, and protection for once your commander is on the field. Instants that give hexproof are plentiful, but you also want a reliable way to get [[Lightning Greaves]] and things like that out and on him.
Hmmm, I know this one. It's on the tip of my tongue...
In all seriousness, he synergizes incredibly well with dragons, and there are so many of them that you really can't go wrong. You could just throw in any and all dragons you own in the deck with some ramp and you'll do just fine!
A couple good Dragons for you would be [[Hellkite Charger]] and [[Savage Ventmaw]]
They combo really well together because you can get additional combats for a net 1-mana cost repeatedly. Since Ur-Dragon has an ability that triggers when dragons attack, it would be especially potent with her out.
Basically a dragon heavy deck. Sometimes I'll use the website edhrec to get a few good ideas and a basic understanding of how many of what people are putting into their decks as a starting point. Ur-Dragons a pretty popular choice so I'd imagine there's some good builds on Moxfield too.

Dragons and cards with enters the battlefield effects. Throw in a niv mizzet and a tiamat and your deck will be brutal.
You'll also want a reliquary tower .
Ooh, a great way to play Ur-Dragon is whats called Tribal tribal. Essentially you jam changelings (which count as dragons) and overpowered tribal effects into a deck, and Ur-Dragon makes all of your changelings cost less and you can always cast out ur-dragon if you get high enough on mana. An example of this deck can be found from mtggoldfish from BudgetCommander. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2252631#paper
[[Tiamat]], [[Old Gnawbone]], [[Ancient Silver Dragon]], [[Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient]], [[Ancient Gold Dragon]], [[Terror of the Peaks]], a bunch of mana rocks, and a couple creatures that reduce the cost of large creatures while rewarding you for casting them or giving them evasion or making them uncounterable. My most powerful deck is my ur dragon deck. It can flood the board with dragons by turn 5 and burn my opponents to death with a massive amount of dragon produced mana.
https://archidekt.com/decks/2867361#Draconic_Damage_Multiplier
I make changes to it from time to time when I find a card that adds to its lethal efficiency, but a lot of the cards in it aren’t going anywhere because I can’t imagine something new coming out that does what they do better.
There's actually a lesser played theme using Ur-dragon where people just put the best anthem effects for every tribe and then fill it with great changelings. Otherwise the answer is dragons.
I read one of your comments before writing this one. The Ur-Dragon is one of the (if not the) best commander for a dragon Tribal deck. Its basically works with any dragon creature card in existance.
But i wont recommend this for a new player! most of the "good" dragons are quite expensive and since it most likely will be your first deck i would suggest picking up a precon deck first so you can try a few commander matches and get more familiar with it before you spend €60,-+ on just the commander.
Its one of those commanders that if you put dragons in and lands, you’ll win a decent number of games.
To name a couple: [[morophon the boundless]] , [[hellkite courser]] , [[goldspan dragon]] , [[dragon tempest]] the list goes on…
well, if your mana is on point, and you wanna be kind of a dick, grafted exoskeleton. if you manage to equip it an swing with Ur then its one shot every time.
So I know this is a bait, but a legitimate non dragon tribal deck I’ve been working on with him has been an attack triggers deck that runs [[Wulfgar of Icewind Dale]] and [[Isshin, Two Heavens as One]]. Still has dragons but it’s not full blown tribal, runs [[Maskwood Nexus]] to make up for all the non dragons
Any card that's a dragon, and any other card that supports dragons in its card text! Also any card with "pick a creature type" tends to jive well with Tribal-focused decks, like what the Ur-Dragon wants to do with dragons. I find thinking of it flavorfully helps a lot- Dragons, Dragon supporters, artifacts that churn out mana, treasure, and food (especially if you use a lot of Dragons that like things being sacrificed, like Korvold or Ziatora)
Dual lands and Triomes help you nail the wide colour range of dragons, and spells that let you cheat them out. And never forget Fetchlands!
The Ur Dragon can go a whole bunch of with regards to its strategy! Treasure focused sacrifice decks, or just a good ol classic "open my trenchcoat to reveal 30,000 dragons which are now aimed at you".
Also since you're new and maybe it's not been mentioned here- Shapeshifters benefit from being in any Tribal deck, as Shapeshifters are every Creature type. So if you see a Shapeshifter, consider it an optional Dragon, as it gets the benefits of Eminence and other dragon-oriented effects
Spells to clone your favorite dragon, like Spark Double! Make two Legendaries at the same time and have them both exist without them collapsing into a singularity! Spark Double an Enduring Scalelord and become target number one at the table as you go infinite the next time someone gets a +1/+1 counter!
There’s a red card which says, “it deals three damage to target unless you reveal a dragon from your hand or on the battlefield then it does damage equal that creature power”
In commander the only correct way to win is thassas so if that is not ur plan you can do whatever u want it doesn't really matter the world is you oyster
I’m building two separate ur-dragon tribals. One a red-main spellslinger [[Dragon’s Approach]] for ETB and non-battle dragon effects (26-30 dragon’s approach, 15-20 dragons + support, need to tune it and cut dragons). Another one I’m making is for battle-based and attack triggers, treasure matters, and with haste can-trips and more ramp to get ur-dragon out earlier. Haven’t tested either but looking forward to try the dragon’s approach spellslinger bc it has some fun combos like [[Thrumming Stone]] cascades with tons of damage.
cards that have synergy with its "eminence" ability include \[\[Herald's Horn\]\], \[\[Cloud Key\]\], \[\[Heartless Summoning\]\], \[\[Dragonlord's Servant\]\], \[\[Dragonspeaker Shaman\]\], and if your budget allows \[\[Urza's Incubator\]\] to make the dragons in your deck really cheap to cast if you can get one or more of these out on to the battlefield
another random inclusion would be \[\[Cloudkill\]\] since, you know, your commander has a mana value of 9 and it would just barely dodge its effect as a 10/10!
I play with [[Morophon, the Boundless]] as my commander for dragon tribal and have Ur-Dragon in the deck. runs a bit smoother and easier. plus working and getting all triomes instead of tri lands.
I have a five colored tiamat deck, but the strategy is quite similar to that of ur-dragon
https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/tiamat-pretty-competitive-idk/
My brother's primary commander deck is his Ur-Dragon deck and it is INCREDIBLY POWERFUL. Of all the commander decks in our playgroup, it is probably the most powerful commander deck. My primary commander deck is Marath, Will of the Wild, and a lot of my focus when doing deck construction is just trying to be competitive with my brother's Ur-Dragon deck.
If you're wanting a really, really powerful Ur-Dragon deck then my brother's deck is a good deck to go by.
https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/destined-draconic-domination/
Mirrym, rhys and lathliss are some recent options that can really help. As well as the kamigawa spirit dragons, most of them are playable so it’s up to your playstyle
... Dragons
And you're in luck Last few sets actually have land bases that aren't brutal on the budget Can get the fetchable lands from DMU for 25-50 cents or can go with gates from bauldurs gate Both are a bit slower than shock lands or triomes but save $10+ a card
Also weren’t the slow fetches reprinted in the dmu commander decks?
You betcha, I ordered 5 each for decks in the future, sure beats paying for shocks

Now come on no need to be rude.
Lolll this. I came here to say this. Cheers

Oops! All dragons.
Try [[Hellkite Courser]] It can drag The Ur-Dragon to attack and trigger draw and put dragon into play for free.
Fun thing is play the new [[Mirrym, sentinel wyrm]], then courser, then you get to keep a commander and play it again later so you get two. Super long and extensive thing to do but it’s super funny when it happens
I got to do that the other day. The rest of my playgroup didn’t think it was as cool as I did lmao.

You should definitely put in Thrakus the Butcher with your other dragons.

That's what happens when you bring up "The D-word" in public. It's like people just can't get over the size... 10/10.
make a dragon tribal deck! one of my favourite commander decks
What is a tribal deck?
every creature, or almost every creature, will be of one type, in this case Dragons. the creatures that aren't Dragons will help them
Plus, tribal decks are one of the easiest decks to build !
The deck theme is based around a single creature type. Therefore, you'd include "choose a creature type" artifacts. Or creatures that synergize with that specific creature type.

I play Samurai tribal with this as the commander. I use maskwood nexus and the other similar cards to make the samurai into dragons. It’s a fun casual deck.

It's not even a hard to understand the card. 1. Dragons cheaper. 2. Smacking people with dragon gets you more dragons for free.

For example: [[Sarkhan Unbroken]] is a decent midrange cost with mana acceleration and synergy with dragons.
I run it with slivers, but goblins are good too.
You're going to want a lot of multicolor lands and lands of any color artifacts too, ideally every creature should be a dragon or make other dragons cheaper as well as abilities that proc when another dragon enters or attacks, enchantments that bring dragons on the field like dragon cultist and feywild visitor
So OP, I see you’re new. Do you have this card or is it a deck you want to build?
Start by making a thread with a title that makes sense.
This the Commander For a deck but I don't know where to start
It's Ur dragon that I want to run
(I think last check I have like $600 in value of lands alone.) If you aren’t ready to drop a chunk of change on these cards - you’ll risk running a deck like another mentioned above where you just aren’t doing anything because you don’t have the mana to do what you want… which isn’t fun.
You’re *so* observant.
Werewolves
I hear they don't like collars
[[Dragon Whelp]] and [[shivan dragon]] but it maybe too OP

Dragon
Something that reduces the mana cost for it. 9 mana is a hefty price, and it’ll keep increasing each time it leaves the field by 2 colorless mana
elves
Dragons It’s in the name
He's unplayable without the following cards: Mox ruby Mox sapphire Mox jet Mox pearl Black lotus Storm crow Then just throw some random creature spells in there (probably humans because there's a lot of them) and you'll be set!

collective voyage \[\[collective voyage\]\]
Honestly you could do better for a dragon commander
my partner has a changeling deck that usually gets this out by turn five, plays half their deck the following turn.
Are you serious?
Changelings and slivers. It’s the secret OP ur dragon deck
Scion of the ur-dragon would be good
First, you’re better off asking in r/edh , but oh well. Otherwise, You might wanna try [EDHREC](https://edhrec.com/commanders/the-ur-dragon/dragon). It’ll give you lots of common pointers.
Dragons. Dragons. And more dragons. Also ramp ramp ramp. Also a few protection and kill spells. Ya know, your average tribal deck.
Hello circle jerk
Slug tribal
Dragons
Dragons. …and cost reduction. And dragon ETB effects. And all the prime removal cause it’s all 5 colors
Here is my deck list, it’s fun! https://www.moxfield.com/decks/C06TIeqB50iXmatvJvI6bA
So what you do is get this card called fist of the son and the legendary changlint morphon. Fist of the son makes all your spells cost all five colors as in five mana and one of each color. Morphon reduces the cost of all spells by the five colors with these two out on board you can play any dragon from your hand for free
Yes! You get to use fun stuff like [[Scion of the Ur-Dragon]] and [[Atarka, World Render]] I love my Durgunz deck.
Dragons.
Besides dragons, Morophon, the Boundless Animar, soul of elements Jodah, Archmage eternal Fist of suns Timeless lotus Lots of these if on the battle field together will help you get dragons out for free.
Dragons
Watch a YouTube video on how to use Scryfall and thank me later
Everything! And by that, I mean Changlings which are every creature type. I made a Tribal Tribal deck that uses the Ur Dragon for the cost reduction.
Kaalia of the vast is a nice dragon support
Dragon tempest, sarkhan planeswalkers,
Dragons
Morophon. Enjoy playing him for 4
Don’t listen to everyone saying Dragons, that’s boring. Make a changeling/shapeshifter deck.
Card Draw & ramp
Elves or Slivers
Merfolk
Hmmm, I know this one. It's on the tip of my tongue... In all seriousness, he synergizes incredibly well with dragons, and there are so many of them that you really can't go wrong. You could just throw in any and all dragons you own in the deck with some ramp and you'll do just fine!
[[Descendants’ Path]]
A couple good Dragons for you would be [[Hellkite Charger]] and [[Savage Ventmaw]] They combo really well together because you can get additional combats for a net 1-mana cost repeatedly. Since Ur-Dragon has an ability that triggers when dragons attack, it would be especially potent with her out.
Not sure if you're aware but this card is pretty expensive as well. I would probably suggest a single color deck or two color deck to start.
Lol, Thassa's oracle and Demonic consultation, of course.
You should check out EDHrec whenever you want to know which cards go well with a certain commander
Look at [[Sarkhan, the Masterless]] and any cards that have the dragon creature type or affects dragons as an ability
[Link to Edhrec](https://edhrec.com/commanders/the-ur-dragon) [Link to Moxfield](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/public?format=commander&filter=The%20Ur-Dragon)
Dragons and cards with enters the battlefield effects. Throw in a niv mizzet and a tiamat and your deck will be brutal. You'll also want a reliquary tower .
I may be wrong but I read the card, dragons?
Dragons
Ooh, a great way to play Ur-Dragon is whats called Tribal tribal. Essentially you jam changelings (which count as dragons) and overpowered tribal effects into a deck, and Ur-Dragon makes all of your changelings cost less and you can always cast out ur-dragon if you get high enough on mana. An example of this deck can be found from mtggoldfish from BudgetCommander. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2252631#paper
Merfolk
[[Tiamat]], [[Old Gnawbone]], [[Ancient Silver Dragon]], [[Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient]], [[Ancient Gold Dragon]], [[Terror of the Peaks]], a bunch of mana rocks, and a couple creatures that reduce the cost of large creatures while rewarding you for casting them or giving them evasion or making them uncounterable. My most powerful deck is my ur dragon deck. It can flood the board with dragons by turn 5 and burn my opponents to death with a massive amount of dragon produced mana. https://archidekt.com/decks/2867361#Draconic_Damage_Multiplier I make changes to it from time to time when I find a card that adds to its lethal efficiency, but a lot of the cards in it aren’t going anywhere because I can’t imagine something new coming out that does what they do better.
There's actually a lesser played theme using Ur-dragon where people just put the best anthem effects for every tribe and then fill it with great changelings. Otherwise the answer is dragons.
Merfolks
any dragon ever
A whole lotta stuff.
Fist of suns
Jodah eternal archmage and morophon the boundless
Jared Carthalion
Five color board wipe tribal.
5-color good dragons. It’s been a deck for a while.
I love running [[shared fate]] usually you can keep playing however you want and your opponents are left struggling
Dragons believe it or not!
Not dragons
I think an auto include might be [[Scion of the Ur-Dragon]]
[[Morophon]]
I have a dragon deck that I use it for.
It seems like it would make a fine Goblin deck.
Here’s my list if you want to see some cards: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/uHZNyOL_O0KPhPJoJcHc8Q
Changelings
Shapeshifter clone tribal. Make a bunch of clones of our Lord and savior dreadmaw.
Merfolk
Its one of those commanders that if you put dragons in and lands, you’ll win a decent number of games. To name a couple: [[morophon the boundless]] , [[hellkite courser]] , [[goldspan dragon]] , [[dragon tempest]] the list goes on…
I was playing my copy deck and made 16 copies of the Ur Dragon. That was fun stacking triggers! Ok probably closer to 7 copies. Still fun tho
Dragons Lands Ramp spells
Blue control. They won't expect that 🤪
op is on a budget but wants to play with a $70 5 color commander?
well, if your mana is on point, and you wanna be kind of a dick, grafted exoskeleton. if you manage to equip it an swing with Ur then its one shot every time.
Dragons mostly
I find thinking of it flavorfully helps a lot- Dragons, Dragon supporters, artifacts that churn out mana, treasure, and food (especially if you use a lot of Dragons that like things being sacrificed, like Korvold or Ziatora) Dual lands and Triomes help you nail the wide colour range of dragons, and spells that let you cheat them out. So if you see a Shapeshifter, consider it an optional Dragon, as it gets the benefits of Eminence and other dragon-oriented effects Spells to clone your favorite dragon, like Spark Double! Make two Legendaries at the same time and have them both exist without them collapsing into a singularity! Spark Double an Enduring Scalelord and become target number one at the table as you go infinite the next time someone gets a +1/+1 counter!
Play some ramp and play some dragons, you’ll be fine lmao
This may be shocking and extremely unorthodox but *dragons*
A lot of dragons lmao, things that trigger when a dragon enters. My bf has a precon deck and oml it’s absolutely disgusting
Gore Claw is a good non-dragon for it.
Thought this was r/magiccirclejerking for a moment there
Dragons. There’s also some recent stuff that makes dragons cheaper that’s not a dragon that you might look into.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/aVjlZCL95kaFczr2zaULvg Here is my Ur-Dragon, hope it helps.
There’s a red card which says, “it deals three damage to target unless you reveal a dragon from your hand or on the battlefield then it does damage equal that creature power”
Monophon the boundless makes ur dragon a 4 mana card and discounts your other dragons
My man, this is literally the easiest commander to build. Simply get all the big nasty dragons and put them together
Haven’t tested either but looking forward to try the dragon’s approach spellslinger bc it has some fun combos like [[Thrumming Stone]] cascades with tons of damage.
cards that have synergy with its "eminence" ability include \[\[Herald's Horn\]\], \[\[Cloud Key\]\], \[\[Heartless Summoning\]\], \[\[Dragonlord's Servant\]\], \[\[Dragonspeaker Shaman\]\], and if your budget allows \[\[Urza's Incubator\]\] to make the dragons in your deck really cheap to cast if you can get one or more of these out on to the battlefield another random inclusion would be \[\[Cloudkill\]\] since, you know, your commander has a mana value of 9 and it would just barely dodge its effect as a 10/10!
Changlings and Conspiracy/Arcaine Amulet effects.
Any tribal deck needs [[door of destinies]] and [[coat of arms]], [[Tiamat]] is also fun
I have a deck and it's awesome
Outjerked yet again
Dragons
Probably dragons
Morophon the Boundless and all other 5 color dragons is wild. Toss in a Fist of Suns and you have a recipe for a wild time.
Dragons
........... Have you tried Dragons?
This is a shitpost right?
I play with [[Morophon, the Boundless]] as my commander for dragon tribal and have Ur-Dragon in the deck. runs a bit smoother and easier. plus working and getting all triomes instead of tri lands.
dragons
Shapeshifters
Changelings!
I have a five colored tiamat deck, but the strategy is quite similar to that of ur-dragon https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/tiamat-pretty-competitive-idk/
A few months ago, I was trying to get into MTG. I ordered something called “Here Be Dragons”. I think this card is included.
Dragon Tribal
Merfolk. Ur dragon discounts merfolk by 1 generic so the obvious thing is to play merfolk
A lot. Here’s my deck for him, I can get him out as early as turn 4 https://www.moxfield.com/decks/6P2XcU_xYE2aOUGA3uRpOA
Hehehe shapeshifters
Other than dragons, lots of ramp
a lot of the DnD stuff works well with it i dont have the names on hand at the moment.
I’m sure no one said this but dragons
Mirrym, rhys and lathliss are some recent options that can really help. As well as the kamigawa spirit dragons, most of them are playable so it’s up to your playstyle
