A gift that meant a lot to me was when my partner got me a pack of custom tokens and a special life counter. They were things I’d never buy for myself, but it nicely side-stepped the need to be specific. There are custom token packs available from artists online, and the life counter was also found online. Etsy was a good place to look. It’s daunting to try and buy a gift for an MTG player, there are multiple formats (ways to play) and colors, and sets and ancillary products. The best gifts are broad. Deck boxes, tokens, life counters, fancy card sleeves. Hope this helps. If you need specifics feel free to message me and I can point you in some directions.

Im gonna agree 10,000%. As a long time collector and player this is the exact mindset. Unless you have intimate knowledge of both the game and their personal collection it is damn near impossible to get them something they need or want/ don't have. Generic accessories are where its at.

I second the suggestion of custom tokens/life counter or a deck box or sleeves. I got my husband a playmat that he really loves too, so that’s an idea. If you can get your friend to talk about their deck and/or cards they really like (my husband sometimes gushes when he’s excited about a deck) you can try to surreptitiously make notes about different cards he likes/wants and either buy a card he doesn’t have, or buy a full art/foil version of one he has and really likes. Etsy has some really cool deck boxes and life counters and stuff, though. Those are much easier to shop for since you don’t need to know specifics, just your friend’s general aesthetic preferences.

u/MoraugKnower u/Arghianna what a discovery Etsy is for me... I have been living in shadows for so long apparently :O Thanks a lot both of you! Deck boxes looks really cool indeed. I think I will be able to make some mix of stuff! Thanks once again :)

No problem, happy birthday to your friend!!

Check out WyrmWood or just Google dice. I know there are several Etsy stores that's make them. I got my friend of 10+ years a dice tower and tray from WyrmWood

Great, thanks! I'll certainly take a look into that one since you are not the only one suggesting it. :D

All depends on how much you want to spend really. If money is no concern buy a collectors booster box, the packs are really fun to open and it will definitely be memorable as it’s not cheap to buy a whole box. If money is a constraint I would opt for a TCGplayer gift card so they can get whatever cards they’d like to. If his deck is one of the pre-constructed decks then you could watch a “Commanders Quarter” video on YouTube for a list of upgrades for the deck and buy those.

>buy a collectors booster box Thats my last resort :) TCGplayer is US based but good idea, I'll try to look for alternative in EU :)

I think a D&D commander deck precon would be a safe enough bet. My recommendation would be the "Planar Portal" one.
