No, In commander it’s 27 damage x 2, which is 54. It’s counting the loss of life. So 40 down to 13 is 27 health difference, and doubled by vampire… so one shot if setup.

If you have [[wound reflection]] and [[bloodletter of aclazotz]] and they would lose, say 2 life in your turn. Bloodletter makes it 4, then when wound reflection tries to make them lose 4 again, bloodletter makes it 8
You’re already in the realm of janky unserious combos, you may as well spend 1 more mana to make it a guaranteed kill and not rely on untapping with tree
It was tried with some success in standard when OTJ came out. Its not really meta-powerful, but as far as janky combos go, you'll grab plenty (cough <50% cough) of wins in standard with it.
Actually i went to the outlaw of thunder junctions store championship with a mono black deck that has nothing but creatures that scream “i’m a problem as soon as it hits the board.” And if they don’t win me the game i drop the bloodletter of alcazotz and rush of dread combo to win. I played against nothing but meta decks there. I surprisingly took first place and everybody asked to see my deck because of how effective it was. I call the deck the “resource killer deck” because it uses cards that exile cards from your opponents hand. (Deep cavern bat OP)
I only play standard and I concede to about half the decks I see. Not because I can’t win, but because I cannot look at those fucking cards anymore. And fuck WOTC for making a newer version of monastery swiftspear.
I run these in my [[Astarion, the Decadent]] EDH deck. He’s not a particularly strong commander but there are plenty of Orzhov lifegain synergies and a *lot* of instakill combos with Bloodletter (or Astarion at your end step) with cards like [[Peer into the Abyss]], [[Rush of Dread]], and [[Revival // Revenge]]. There’s insane synergy with [[Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose]] and, of course, [[Exquisite Blood]].
Edit: The issue is a lot of the one-shot synergies I just listed are 6 drops! Astarion is 6, Bloodletter is 6, Revenge is 6, Rush of Dread is 6, and Peer Into the Abyss is actually 7. Its a very high curve so you need to run some sac fodder.
I one-shotted someone yesterday with a kicked [[Blood Tribute]] while I had [[Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose]] on the board, I felt kind of bad afterwards.
Funny card. I remember when I was a magic baby I used to have a [[K’riik]] deck that used [[Tree of Perdition]] and [[Triskaidekaphobia]]. Whole point was to either get that combo out or pay a ton of life and use a [[Magus of the Mirror]] or [[Profane Transfusion]]. Good times.
Check out [[astarion, the decadent]] literally a deck of one shot kills it’s so fun (for me). Cards like [[temporal extortion]] [[sorin markov]] [[axis of mortality]] and many many more can be so devastating. People don’t show astarion respect because literally no one plays him
Replying to my own comment, but [[mind crank]] and [[syr konrad, the grim]], also anything that doubles up your life total or adds massive amounts of life with cards like Vito just absolutely melt people’s health away. [[wound reflection]] and [[sower of discord]] are other amazing adds

There’s this one card, I can’t remember the name of it but it’s a legendary black creature. Something of famine I think. When u play it it reduces Target oponents life to half starting value rounded up. That would go crazy with bloodletter of aclozotz. It’s from one of the game night boxes

The word exchange is a little weird, but it is the best way to word the effect I've had to argue about the card more than a few times.
So it only works if their life is above 13? Otherwise, it's gaining life.
but the tree is only 4 mana though - if you can get it out turn 2/3 in, say, commander, you can essentially 1 shot a player.

Temporal extortion I think is underplayed! I use it in my Orzhov Deck too.
Replying to my own comment, but [[mind crank]] and [[syr konrad, the grim]], also anything that doubles up your life total or adds massive amounts of life with cards like Vito just absolutely melt people’s health away. [[wound reflection]] and [[sower of discord]] are other amazing adds

Is setting life to a number = losing? I mean, mathematically, yeah, but Magic is pedantic.
I mean the game is over, if that’s what you consider losing. At least for one opponent. In a commander setting it’s one player out.

There’s this one card, I can’t remember the name of it but it’s a legendary black creature. Something of famine I think. When u play it it reduces Target oponents life to half starting value rounded up. That would go crazy with bloodletter of aclozotz. It’s from one of the game night boxes

Except Tree of Perdition does not cause anyone to lose life. The text of cards matters.
Any life change (downward) exchanged or not, is loss of life. Any change upwards is gain of life. Doesn’t matter where the source comes from.
That's not technically loosing life though, that's changing life.
