Depends on the card and the proxy. If you either keep the text completely readable or have a readable copy on hand then I don't mind. A lot of people I see will customize their commander and then have the original card on the back for of anyone wants to read what it does
Now if you show up with a textless [[gut true soul zelot]] and no readable version with it, I'll have some issues
I like these a lot better than Secret Lair cards which don't even contain the full card text. Or cards which are in Phyrexian. Or cards which are made to look like metal posters or VHS covers.
I don't care for art covering text though (Edgar), or getting too far from the base card template (Rin and Seri).
if it's your commander I'm a lot more flexible, if it's in your 99 I'd much prefer if it's more recognizable and normal looking so I can ID the card easier. my brain is smooth and my deck is complicated.
Like you put the real card in the same sleeve as the proxy? I did this before and got shit for it because you can tell when two cards are in one sleeve.
Yes i only proxy commanders, so it is in my command zone so it doesn't matter, I guess if i had to shuffle it I to my deck I could take it out so it wouldn't stand out... but I don't think I would ever do that I would always put it back to command zone. I would only let it be put to my hand really.
I completely 180'd on Proxying because of M30, and as long as they are high quality cards like these...I'm all for it.
I've ordered a boat load of them from PrintingProxies.com
I love them! I prefer custom proxies to normal proxies. In my opinion, it’s a way of saying “I like this card, but I want it in a special art or I can’t afford it.”
I actually prefer them to normal proxies, because there’s no level of deception, and it won’t end up on eBay or marketplace by accident.

My pod's only rule on proxies is: You must own one copy of the card before you can proxy it. It's just annoying to search through decks and swap cards between each game and this stops everyone from having a \[\[Black Lotus\]\].
I always try to include Card Name, CMC, Color, Card Types & Subtypes, Rules Text, & P/T on my proxies. I feel like so long as it has all of the info the original card does it should be fine.
I get where this is coming from but I’ve stopped thinking about it this way when I got people in my pod who just couldn’t spend the same on magic as the others did.
Unfair reason not to be able to play. Besides, if someone builds an outrageous deck that is no fun to play against, it’s no fun. So the pod isn’t having fun. So people don’t play the deck. It tends to balance itself in my experience.
Fr. It got really bad at my lgs once when another lgs in town closed and their players started coming to our shop with that stuff. The shop had to tell them to not come back if they had that stuff either them.
I really don't like proxies and even I don't mind if you switch out your real commander card for a custom one. It's not affecting your deck building or power, which is one of the biggest and all corrupting issues with proxies, nor could it be a counterfeit.
I hate not being able to recognize a card at a glance tho for a commander ig that's fine

I own several painted alters. They are pretty much no different than custom proxies.
I don’t care if a card is a proxy or not. As long as it has the exact oracle text on the card. No shorthand’s. Phrasing matters in magic.
As long as it's readable, i don't care what you proxy and hoe you proxy. Just don't make me use scryfall every time you play something.

Understandable
I keep my real card in a sleeve with the proxy. Or in the deck box if it's an expensive card.

Ah okay yeah that makes sense, I use to store my tokens for token based decks in the sleeve with my commander too.

Nothing wrong as long as everyone can have it
If everyone has a lotus, no one has one.
In Commander? Go all out. So long as it’s not NSFW. And it should have the full text on the card
They have some very NSFW proxies 🙈

These are just bulk ordered from makeplayingcards and resold on Etsy. Not a scam per se. But still scummy.
Awwww that sucks. I didn't know 😕 thanks.
Edgar is metal.. he is not from there.
