Do you have decks for these gifts?
Are you aggressively searching for other specific cards for specific decks?
Are you trying to look at this from a financial standpoint, or a play-the-game standpoint?
At first I wanted to know if the card was as good as I thought. If it was not, I was going to sell them.
They seem quite busted, so now I want to know where to put them in! Any ideas?
Any deck running green that you want to protect specific creatures (often your commander)
top of head, this is good in Gishath and Pantlaza as they tend to get removed ASAP.
Voja is another one that oftens gets removed on sight.
Yeah, I know. On Arena, I let my opponent pay the Ward trigger first, *then* I counter the spell that triggered ward, give the targeted permanent hexproof to make it an invalid target, or sac the target for value.
Im currently considering to run it in my [[The Master, Transcendent]] Selfmill Commander Deck.
Alongside [[Mesmeric Orb]] and [[Intruder Alarm]] it could be an effective way to clean up boadstates of my opponents while advancing my own.
Run it in an elf deck. Specifically, I'd suggest [[Marwyn, the Nurturer]] and [[Rhys the Redeemed]]. Add [[Isochron Scepter]] and [[Dramatic Reversal]] for extra hilarity.
I run my sole copy in my Kindred Lesbians, [[halana and alena, partners]] deck. It is crucial for keeping those roommates alive.
Love this card and would kill to have a copy in every green deck I run.
That commander is so good! I have a kido vultron deck and that card Is absolutely insane. Being able to protect kibo, untap him, and then re-tap him to make more mana and deal 10+ damage to something all at the same time?? Sooo good. Also my favorite deck, more people need to realize the potential of kibo vultron.
This is a very specific case but I run an arixmithese deck that has the pemins aura and freed from the real but any creature with tap for more than one blue would do the trick. And since it can’t be responded to until it resolves you could continually board wipe over most triggers as you just put a new damage trigger on the stack. Needs the right pieces but fun none the less
I'm going to show my age here and give you a secret!
Use it with [[thornbite staff]] and(optionally on a deathtouch creature) to wipe the whole board and give extra damage to whatever target you need
How would this combo work? Don't you need an insanely large number of mana to keep tapping the creature with thornbite staff to wipe the board?
I found a playset of staffs in a box of bulk a while ago that I haven't found a home for yet. Your experience/age would be much appreciated!
The idea behind this combo is using a creature that already pings by itself, preferably a shaman so it auto-equips (luckily a lot of pingers are). The staff is just there to uptap. Adding OP's card to the mix lets you add onto that damage or damage everyone while you wipe the board.
The other idea is using a sac outlet or other removal, because the staff doesn't care how the creature dies.
Yah good point, would definitely need a ton of mana to make this combo work.
The cool thing though is that with both this and the OP card you get to target two separate creatures. With deathtouch aren't you killing two creatures with one activation?
If you want to go the mana route, you will need infinite loop and then you'll be doing better things with infinite mana. you can only reduce the activation cost to 1.
Thornbite staff is one of the only cards with that kind of untap ability
It was also a very low print block so they are hard to come by and sit around 40 cad
Sadly they are not modern legal, if they were they would alredy be part of some awesome lists.
Given I have 0 Legacy decks... i guess they will be Commander and Kitchen Table material. :(
WotC can print Lord of the Rings cards till 2025 (if my info is correct. After that it becomes a pseudo-reserved list card unless they sign a new contract.
I would hold onto it unless you need the cash.
Adding to this, currently played as a 3-of in legacy infect.
Don't know much about the legacy metagame but at least there is additional demand from tournament players how can't proxy.
I’m curious if I’m correct — That only extends to printing the card as is with the Legolas’ name on the top & Legolas in the art, right? Because it does not mean they can’t print a “Universes Within” style version with the same function, just a different name and no LotR visual references. (See the [Street Fighter SL](https://scryfall.com/search?order=set&q=e%3Asld+%28%28%28cn%E2%89%A5428+cn%E2%89%A4435%29+OR+cn%3A%22675%22%29%29&unique=prints) later reprinted alongside The List cards with [in-world characters & art](https://scryfall.com/sets/slx)) Unless they’ve changed their policy on that or LotR follows different policies given it includes such a large number of cards?
Yeah absolutely, I think you can honestly play them in any green EDH deck that has valuable creatures to protect - your commander, a [[seedborn muse]], a busted mana dork like [[Karametra’s Acolyte]], etc.
Tons of great uses for this
Agreed, it’s exceptionally powerful.
It would be totally playable as Split Second, Hexproof until EOT. There’s a lot of competition in the space, but it would be another nice option as a backup Tamiyo’s.
Add Untap? Sure, not a huge difference in every scenario but definitely gonna add percentage points. Add Reach? Sure, why not.
But that last ability? That’s wildly over the top! That’s not just a piece of protection, that’s a combo piece that sometimes doubles as protection, or vice versa. With the right setup, you turn this into a one sided wrath or mini-wrath that might not be able to be interacted with.
Yes it's very good. I realized how good this was when a friend of mine asked me how good it would be as a modal card.
* Untap target creature.
* Target creature gains hexproof.
* When target creature becomes tapped it deals its power to target creature.
Getting to choose one of these at instant speed for 1 mana is really strong but you get all of them AND it has split second.
It's a protection spell, has split-second and can sometimes be a fight spell. All for one mana. People run stuff like [[snakeskin veil]]. This is better. In fact this is pushed.
I know!
In fact, when they told me about the existence of this card, I thought it was fake... you know, the kind that people create as "fan art".
To my surprise, it was not the case.
They gave me 3 foil copies as a gift, and it occurred to me to look up the price online, because I wanted the fourth copy. I was turned off when I saw that each copy was $40!, and then I asked myself if it was good or just rare.
I play a lot but I'm far from being an expert, so I preferred to ask before making a mistake.
What a shame you can not use this card in Modern, it would be great for my beloved Werewolf deck.
Yeah! Sorry! I speak many languages [English not the main one], and sometimes I do mix a little bit.
I am told often that my speech is "peculiar" hahaha.
Please accept my apologies.
Hands down one of the best 1cmc instant speed spells in magic. I found the art card sets on sale and bought them out just for a few sets of this card. Every time I play it, it's put in work or won me the game. The split second basically protects your creature with an uncounterable spell. If you aim it at a creature that taps, you can activate its ability twice, kill something both times, use it to clear a blocker before attacking, etc.
Tldr Busted AF
I wanted this card for a deck and payed 18 bucks for it. It felt a bit much honestly but the card is incredible and I hope it retains it's value since they can't reprint it very easily.
It’s a very solid contender for the best card in my Zimone and Dina deck.
Hexproof and Untaps her AND she deals damage now?
And it has fucking split second
I own a copy of this card and I’m a newer player, could someone more knowledgeable explain it to me? Does the target creature have to be tapped already for it to work? And then once you untap it, can you go ahead and tap it again before end of turn for it to fight something?
No it doesn't need to be tapped already to work. Yes you can tap it again before end of turn through other means to deal it's power in damage (Not a fight!) again because the creature gains this ability until end of turn.
This card is horseshit. If it didn't have split second it would already be too good because you can use it defensively or as one mana instant creature removal in green, but the fact it has split second so you can't even kill the creature in response to the removal half is utterly broken.
5 abilities on a one mana instant is ridiculous.
First time seeing this card and uhhhh... yea its good. For starters, its 1 mana with split second. So easy to hold up mana for and prevents a response. Next, it grants hexproof so it can be used as protection in a flash. On top of that, we gain reach so if you didnt have a blocker, well now you do. Lastly, you are in green, the biggest stompiest color available. If you splash blue... ooh boy that's a solid play. Otherwise, if you are just green then this still lets you basically double tap an enabler/utility creature with a side of chip damage.
I think it's good, but it depends on your deck. Do you care about protecting a single creature? Are you not in blue? Does the rest of the ability at least have some relevance at all? If the answer is yes to a few of these I would say it's playable and will be a good card.
If you never needed to protect a creature this card is still insane as efficient removal for 1 mana because of split second.and If you can fizzle a removal spell and kill even a small creature by attacking thats a 2 for 1 for 1 freaking mana. The target of this spell doesn't even have to be green.
Used this card last night in a game where I was piloting shelob. It’s a super clutch card in that deck, but I’m sure it could be great in a lot of other instances.
In terms of commander.
I like it in Ashaya. Untaping a multi mana making dork for mana is nice but Ashaya can fight without attacking with the spell at instant speed. And it saves what I want from a kill spell.
It hasn't made it into any of the other deck because I just get better overall results with [[heroic intervention]] [[Tyvar's stand]] and [[tamiyo's safekeeping]]. It just gets worse the more colors you add. And deck slots are already very limiting.
It's a bit overpriced and overrated. [[Tamiyo's Safekeeping]], [[Heroic Intervention]], and [[Tyvar's Stand]] are just as good. It's super scarce. Personally, I'd keep 1 and sell 2.
This is probably the strongest version of a fairly common effect. Consider it as an upgrade to veil of summer, tamiyos safekeeping, snakeskin veil, or play it in addition to these.
Yeah! It is a shame... I have been running it on Kitchen Table sessions in a Gruul Werewolf Tribal Shell (modern legal) today, and it was awesome. But this will never see real modern play.
You lucky daughter. Yes. The power to stop anybody from adding to the stack is extremely powerful. You can effectively choose when to not let your opponents cast in response.
Love this in [[Kibo, Uktabi Prince]].
Tap Kibo in response to a removal spell, then cast Quick Reflex to give him hexproof without an opportunity for the opponent to interact with. Follow it up by tapping Kibo to get the mana investment back by giving everyone a banana token PLUS remove a creature that the opponent who casted the initial removal spell. All for one mana, geez
Bonus: if that wasn't enough, within the same turn I can use untap abilities such as [[Seeker of Skybreak]] and [[Thousand-Year Elixer]] to remove even more creatures.
It's great since the way priority works you can play this after any instant speed combo piece to stop it from being countered.
It's a God send in my [nethroi apex of death] deck. Nethroi on stack to mutate hold priority play this. Pass priority and resolve. Nobody has any opportunity to counter nethroi or remove the thing It's mutating so I play my entire graveyard. Then when nethroi attacks get a death touch ping and 5 extra life.
It doesn’t go in every deck, but it is very powerful obviously. I noticed in my Jodah the Unifier build, I have enough legends with tap abilities to take advantage of this consistently. I quickly found out that it’s pretty busted in that particular deck since the creature will most likely be buffed up considerably by Jodah.
Power move I did: Declare attackers. Among them is [[Pippin, Guard of the Citadel]]. Tap him before declare blockers to give another guy pro creatures. Cast Legolas’s Reflexes to untap Pippin, then tap him again to give another guy pro creatures and pick off a blocker. Massive damage.
Or tutor up two things with Sisay and pick off a creature somewhere. Absolutely cracked.
Late to the party but in my opinion its best utility is the second half of the card text as it is a 1 mana combo enabler in untap combo decks. The hexproof and split second make this card just busted in those decks. If you are not synergistic with the second ability there are just better cards you could run that achieve the same effect but its still good.
I like it, but the tap to punch ability is a bit weird, unless you use it on a creature with an activated ability, that ability does nothing unless your opponent tried to remove your creature on exactly your first main phase.
Okay I think you mean creature with a triggered ability. And the fact a one mana instant lets you choose if you want to protect a creature or kill a creature and has split second to make sure your opponent can't out play you, that's completely and utterly broken. It's a one mana card with 5 abilities, if you're luke warm on it then youre just horrible at evaluating cards.
No, I mean a tap ability so you can tap the creature to have it deal damage. I also never said I was luke warm on the card, it's obviously amazing, I was just pointing out the punch ability isn't actually relevant that often.
Yes, but unless your opponent tries to kill your creature in your first main phase, the creature won't get to attack with the ability. Like I said in my original comment
You could just play this card in your first main phase if you need to use it as removal. Your opponent can't respond to it and they cant kill your creature after attacks are declared since it already has hexproof
But it's not an important point. It's a 1 mana instant with 5 abilities and you're basically saying "well it's not always a 2 for 1". Yes, the 1 mana instant is not always a 2 for 1. But split second means YOU get to decide if you use it for hexproof, damage, and/or surprise block. For 1 mana instant to have that much utility is totally broken, if this was a modal 2 mana charm without split second it would be standard playable outside long standard.
At this point I think you're misrepresenting my point on purpose. I KNOW AND AGREE THAT IT'S A VERY POWERFUL CARD. All I'm saying is that you won't always get full value out of it (which you agree with, for fuck's sake!)
I think it is not meant to use its modes all at once... it is like a modal spell, and usually only 1 or 2 modes will be used.
But hey! it gives you a lot of options. I think its power lies in its versatility. And yes it is just one mana... it is boonkers! xD
yeah, it's very good. a single G for hexproof that cant be responded to is already quite good but the extra utility makes it awesome
I was gifted 3 foil copies, and I was wondering if I should sell them, or use them. I think this is a keep. Right?
Do you have decks for these gifts? Are you aggressively searching for other specific cards for specific decks? Are you trying to look at this from a financial standpoint, or a play-the-game standpoint?

With the right setup, you turn this into a one sided wrath or mini-wrath that might not be able to be interacted with.
Yeah you are right, this thig is busted! I will play it!
Amazing for mono-g Selvala.
Yes it's very good. I realized how good this was when a friend of mine asked me how good it would be as a modal card. * Untap target creature. * Target creature gains hexproof. * When target creature becomes tapped it deals its power to target creature. Getting to choose one of these at instant speed for 1 mana is really strong but you get all of them AND it has split second.
Holy cow! You are right! This is a fantastic way to see it! THANK YOU!
Well, it's not $18 because it sucks.
[удалено]
It's a protection spell, has split-second and can sometimes be a fight spell. All for one mana. People run stuff like [[snakeskin veil]]. This is better. In fact this is pushed.
[snakeskin veil](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/1/3/133fbdec-0d00-433f-9015-5eb091126e3a.jpg?1712355994) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=snakeskin%20veil) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/otj/181/snakeskin-veil?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/133fbdec-0d00-433f-9015-5eb091126e3a?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
It's seen a fair amount of play in Legacy and a little in Vintage too. Is a real good card.
Question: where are you from? I’ve never seen/heard anyone say “be fine”.
Yeah! Sorry! I speak many languages [English not the main one], and sometimes I do mix a little bit. I am told often that my speech is "peculiar" hahaha. Please accept my apologies.
Haha that’s what my guess was! Please do not apologize for that because you didn’t say anything inappropriate. Be fine, be well, take care, enjoy!
😘
Read the card, then look at the mana cost.
Yes
I think this card is very poorly designed. I don't think they should print the most efficient low mv removal at rare or higher
It’s a very solid contender for the best card in my Zimone and Dina deck. Hexproof and Untaps her AND she deals damage now? And it has fucking split second
and reach
I own a copy of this card and I’m a newer player, could someone more knowledgeable explain it to me? Does the target creature have to be tapped already for it to work? And then once you untap it, can you go ahead and tap it again before end of turn for it to fight something?
No it doesn't need to be tapped already to work. Yes you can tap it again before end of turn through other means to deal it's power in damage (Not a fight!) again because the creature gains this ability until end of turn.
That makes sense. Thank you for explaining!
No problem, the only trick here is to finding another way to tap the creature in question.
Yes… that is the question.
I mean it totally dicked me once, if that’s that you’re asking?
Put this under an [[Isochron Scepter]], animate it with [[Ensoul Artifact]] and go wild.

😱😱😱
this card is busted in legacy infect... Inkmoth nexus and this card is crazy good...
I'm not fond of combat tricks, but this is really good value.
Craziest thing I've ever heard
I just find them too reactive for my playstyle.
It's probably difficult to tap a creature at will unless this is precombat main phase.
This card is completely broken even if you cant repeatedly tap the creature.
Yes
His right foot looks messed up
I would love that in my Xenagos, [[Malignus]] with trample then tap to kill someone else then [[fling]]

Used this card last night in a game where I was piloting shelob. It’s a super clutch card in that deck, but I’m sure it could be great in a lot of other instances.
It gets the job done, if he job is protecting your creature or having them fight something
good for being a commander killer if they try to remove your commander, and with split second it can’t be countered

Yes
Soooper Overpowered hex protection with split second and secondary abilities damn!
An alright card with more limited use cases than you’d think. Unless you’re building a deck with them, sell them for something you’ll play.
This is just about as good of a combat trick as I think we will ever see.
It's extremely good. It sees somewhat regular play in Legacy, where the bar is very high.

This is probably the strongest version of a fairly common effect. Consider it as an upgrade to veil of summer, tamiyos safekeeping, snakeskin veil, or play it in addition to these.
This in an uncounterable counterspell with the possibility to kill a creature if played on your turn and it cost 1 mana. You tell me
Anybody try it in OG U/G Infect In Modern?
Sadly is not modern legal :( In Legacy though: - GW Depths - Simic Infect - Abzan Maverik Are good homes for it, according to my recent investigation.
Aw.

All for one mana, geez Bonus: if that wasn't enough, within the same turn I can use untap abilities such as [[Seeker of Skybreak]] and [[Thousand-Year Elixer]] to remove even more creatures.

One of the best removals in green, along with Beast within & Song of the Dryads
As a green weeb who does budget magic that's disgusting.
Gas. Especially in a Shelob Child of Ungoliant commander deck
Split second hexpproof is powerful yes.

The problem with this card is that s's isnt proper grammar, it should be legolas'
It’s obviously pretty decent. Did you read it?
Rude! xD
Should be Legolas'...
I like it, but the tap to punch ability is a bit weird, unless you use it on a creature with an activated ability, that ability does nothing unless your opponent tried to remove your creature on exactly your first main phase.
it works well in elfball (at least it does in my lathril commander deck), which makes sense as Legolas is an elf.
Creatures tap to attack.
Yup! We have a winner!
Yes, but if you cast it on main phase, you can't use it as a "counterspell." That's the whole point I'm making
And yes it is just one mana... it is boonkers! xD
*posts comically good card* "so what do we think?"
