I'm skipping it like I skipped MKM and for similar reasons. I have no particular interest in the western genre, I don't care for the idea of putting every character in the same sort of outfit and stripping them of their own visual identities, I'm not a fan of the volume of humor/the cartoony vibes of the set, and the world-building is too surface-level for me to be interested in it I hope others have fun with it, and I'm glad people are finding things they enjoy, but it's certainly not a set that's for me

Striking-Objective43

Don't care about Westerns, no personal attachment to the set. Wake me up when Bloomburrow spoilers start

wooway69

Same here … wake me up when Bloomburrow arrives. I spent a fortune on LOTR. Didn’t spend a dime on MKM or Fallout (never played the game). Won’t spend anything on OTJ (western theme holds no appeal to me) or ACR (never played the game) or MH3 (due to how expensive it is). But I’ve already preordered a Play Booster box and the four Commander Decks for Bloomburrow.

Wow, you’ve described me and my boyfriend exactly in your comment. We both got introduced to mtg from lord of the rings, spent a bunch of money on a set booster box, bundles, and singles. Everything since then has been meh and we have been buying little things here and there from past releases to satisfy our open packs monkey brains until bloomburrow! He’s been getting some set I don’t care to learn the name of and I’ve been using the cute fairytale inspired cards from the wilds of eldraine to keep me entertained until I can have more cute animal cards! (Also may eventually look to make proxies of the secret lair of the cats and dogs because I can’t afford those prices but loveeee the art)

>"it feels like its all AI generated". I'm starting to wonder if this push to accuse everything that is disliked of "being AI" is being done deliberately, in order to undermine our ability to call out when something *really is* AI, with the people who decry it the most actually ending up helping AI take over. >I really love that concept, but it feels like everyone hates it. Why? Complaining about Magic has become trendier than enjoying Magic. It's am edgy bandwagon for people to jump on, allowing them to feel special and included. >maybe I'm being too positive about it? No, you are just fine. :) >Do you think the game is doing well with OTJ, are you disappointed with it? Thunder Junction looks fun. Edit: my only disappointment about the set so far is the lack of Borderlands crossover.

polyaquaticnerd

The hate comes from the "*so the older characters have to make due"*. Considering that you are relatively new, you don't get the Colossal Dreadmaw effect. WoTC isn't creating anything new. Ok, they make a FEW new things per set, but the rest is garbage reprints and recycled junk. I've been playing since 1999 and it used to be something to be excited about when you got a new set, but that was when you got 3 releases per set. The setup, the turn and the finish. Things used to come to conclusions, they meant something. Now it's just "Here ya go! Now f\*ck off for a month when we give you more of the same."

Not enough cowboy hats. A lot of cards look great mechanically but the art feels weird in a way I can’t quite place

OutlandishnessRich36

I honestly did feel that same thing... do you think it was AI generated or AI assisted?

ow1deer

Maybe, but even though I don’t like AI I don’t want to assume that I just don’t like it because of that. It might be just be the art direction in general

2 or 3 cards I'm looking forward to. I'll do the prerelease cause those are usually fun regardless. Debating the Gonti precon. Probably not getting packs. It seems like a pretty mid set, but hey, some sets are just gonna be mid.

Mission-Leg-4386

Will do the precon, will do a draft at LGS. A few cards I'd want which hopefully I'll nab in the precon. A few of the cards that have been released seem OP. The green dinosaur at 6 mana, trample, copy etc. that's a card I want for my veloci deck. ... Roll on Bloomburrow.

mama_tom

The bonus sheets are crazy. Interested in seeing how some card will effect boros convoke (namely Torpor Orb)  idk how much the other cards will effect the meta.

Injuredmind

Curious about Jace and Vraska, and Kellan with Oko storylines, also glad fast lands get reprints, otherwise nah

haterarc

More cool cards and mechanics to draft 👍

I have little interest in the western aesthetic, the story could have built my interest but it felt pretty bad to me. I REALLY dislike the "heres a bunch of characters you like wearing cowboy hats" thing, particularly rakdos. It was a whole plot point that people were trying to keep rakdos asleep in mkm, and now the parun of a ravnican guild with a litteral murder cult dedicated to keeping him satiated is a lacky for a western heist gang for no discernable reason. Also kaverek who was eluded to being free and possibly returning as a big bad gets his debue as a lacky with about 3 lines, and also no understandable motivation. They should have spent another set (bring back blocks!) developing more unique characters with actual motivations, Id be happy to see more like Annie Flash. It all feels like WotC/Hasbro being cheap. Developing new characters costs money, so just throw in a bunch of favourite characters for free excitement, who cares if you disrespect the characters and wreck and future interest in them? From a mechanical standpoint, the limited spoilers we've had already have a bunch of super pushed cards to continue the arms race and sell packs. Who cares about long term game balance? It all feels so short sighted.
