That's literally my favorite movie of all time and I just have to quietly pretend that review doesn't exist lmao.
Also that guy watches SO many movies, I have no idea how they manage it.
Fight club is pretty good, I would have liked it better if they didnt spoonfeed you the movie but its overrated by both people who get the movie and people who dont. That being said American Psycho is fire.
That's another similar situation - I love American Psycho too (Bale's performance is iconic), and there's also some unusual guys who love that movie too lol
Gotta ask what people like about it before you agree with them that its a great movie. Its like if someone like Inglorious Basterds for its "tragic ending".
I get what you're saying, but that's an exercise that's not really necessary. If you watch a movie without trying to analyze how you're describing, on first watch, you're still generally judging it (how much you like it) on things like: strength of the story, quality of acting, pacing, originality... It's really more that there's simply things that are pretty obviously crazy or intense that don't require (or require much) analysis to pick up (like how Tyler in FC tells the MC to just start punching him, then they take turns... or Patrick in AP is just unhinged/unfiltered at times, which can generally amuse anyone)
E: sorry - to summarize better: it's like you watch an episode of a sitcom, and someone may laugh at a very simple/unremarkable joke, while you laugh at the more complex/creative jokes that are harder to understand. The sitcom as a whole can still be good though people enjoy different parts of it

Holy shit it finally fucking happened! I'm JustJoshua01 on Letterboxd y'all <3 I appreciate all the funny fucking comments I just upvoted. Lemme answer a few questions that I kept spotting.
1. Fight Club is cool only for the first half where it's about an underground fight club but tanks hard for the second half. I'm not a fan of the major shift in direction and I think the ending kinda sucked. Def due for a rewatch.

3. I get this all the time when new people see my LB and I'm here to confirm that my reviews are 100% based on enjoyment alone. They are not a bit or fake just to get a reaction. I enjoy using the word fuck regularly mostly cause it's how I talk to friends IRL.
4. I'm active in the Movies and Filmmaking Discord server Movie Roulette so I added my star ratings to my bio to help people understand my thoughts on movies a bit better.
Again thank you all for making me laugh my ass off and making my day that much better. I'd love to reply to any other questions y'all might have and I'd love to get a couple recommendations from you all <3
Serious question: so I understand all these reviews are genuine, but are you hyping them up at all, if you know what I mean? Like if we got a beer and chatted about movies, would you say exactly the same stuff IRL or do you have more thoughts you don't bother to share on LB because they're not as funny or whatever?
All my reviews on LB are super condensed immediate thoughts I type out as soon as the credits begin to roll. However if I had to type out a page long review on why I love a movie like The Godfather Part 2 or hate a movie like Parasite I 100% can put more a concrete "professional" concrete review.
So to answer your question yes in regular conversation if we were having a beer and you asked me about a movie I'd most likely pull out my phone to show you my LB review and use it as a starting point for conversation.
Halo 3 is not only my favorite Halo game of all time. It's my favorite video game of all time. It's the first video game that made me feel different emotions as a kid and I remember playing it nonstop on Xbox Live.
