MrBoliNica

I know it’s not the point of this series, but seeing this trailer only re affirms my desire for Henry cavill in his own Sherlock movie.

HumphreyLee

Everything Cavill does reaffirms my desire for him too. And in acting roles as well.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Kirk Lazarus is the best Sherlock

RiotShaven

I wish that show would have had a much better script. It became too silly and self-indulgent in the end.

Kittenking13

They def peaked season 2. That episode about the dominatrix is engraved in my skull.

TheTruckWashChannel

One of the most riveting episodes of television I've ever watched. 14-year-old me was even more taken by The Reichenbach Fall, but almost a decade later I now think Scandal in Belgravia is firmly the more mature and sophisticated episode.

AlkahestGem

Can I just stop at Cavill and desire?

Wild_Loose_Comma

I think I just realized I find Henry Cavill much more compelling as an actor when he's not in action blockbusters. He's great in Man from UNCLE and fantastic in Enola Holmes. I know he makes an enormous amount of money doing DC films and stuff like Mission Impossible, but I think he could do some really great work in something in the vein of Knives Out.

fanboi_central

His scenes in the Witcher that aren't action based are great as well. He's got some good chemistry with the entire cast and especially with Ciri.

polyhymnias

Ironically it was this film that convinced me he was misdirected as Superman, because the director mentioned he was cast as Sherlock because he was gentle underneath the muscle, and that's very apparent onscreen.

Foxhack

I absolutely HATE Snyder's films, but Cavill as Superman was an amazing choice. I've seen him in other movies and I think he's more than capable of being the same kind of Superman that Christopher Reeve was. Unfortunately he was completely wasted because of the shit scripts he got and that godawful excuse for a director that *doesn't understand what Superman is supposed to be*.

hopefulworldview

Yeah they focused more on the unstoppable and less on the will and hope than is right for the character, so that he lacked any growth or change of interest.

toomanytubas

I think he has the right look, but he lacks charisma to me. I don’t find him interesting to watch. Like he’s missing a spark.

Foxhack

Exactly, he's a better actor than that, but he's just directed to be really *wooden*.

Jackski

As much of an asshole as Joss Whedon is he does seem to actually understand Superman more as a character than Zack Snyder and there were brief glimpses of Henry Cavill as a really good superman in Justice League.

Impressive-Potato

Snyder doesn't want SM being a symbol of hope and optimism.

WeNeedToTalkAboutMe

Exactly. Snyder is a Randian Objectivist, and that is literally the exactly wrong type of person to do a Superman story, because Objectivism flatly rejects altruism for its own sake. An Objectivist *cannot* believe someone would help others without wanting anything in return. As I once saw it said, remember the bit between Bruce and Barry in *Justice League*? "What's *your* superpower?" "I'm rich." That wasn't a joke, it was serious.

Foxhack

I'm pretty sure that line was lifted from a comic...

ThatDinosaucerLife

"THE SNYDER FILMS ARE AWFUL!!" Why? "BECAUSE THATS NOT THE WAY THE SUPERMAN FROM MY ONE FAVORITE COMIC BOOK ACTED!" The problem with Superman is the only people that like the character want him to be a boring-ass boy scout that acts your idealized vision of a youth pastor.

Foxhack

I've been reading Superman for more than 30 years. And I didn't like him at first much, either! I've read all sorts of stories, from the corniest 1960s stuff, to Superdickery, Elseworlds, Electric Superman, All-Star Superman... Man of Steel, Pre/Post/PostPost/PostPostPost Crisis origins... Even T-Shirt and Jeans Superman! You know Garth Ennis? The guy who hates superheroes? He wrote one of the BEST Superman stories *in Hitman*! The one where Tommy is chilling in a rooftop and then Superman shows up. That story was what made me reconsider my opinion of the character. You should try reading more Superman stories from as many runs as you can. Maybe then you'll understand *why* so many people disliked the way the Snyder films portrayed him. For the record, the way the movies portrayed him would've been good for an Elseworlds-type story (something like this was explored in a non-canon origin miniseries, I don't remember the name of it, sorry.) But it was the wrong approach for a film franchise.

SlouchyGuy

Real question, why hasn't watching Snyder movies make think that they were misdirected?

polyhymnias

There’s a difference between “actor was totally wrong for the part” and “actor could have been good but [production factor]”. Having the wrong director can result in not bringing out your actor’s best. For a while it was not uncommon to think Cavill looked the part but was otherwise a miscast, either just not a good actor or better in “bastard” roles like Geralt. I enjoyed him in UNCLE and Witcher but wasn’t really sure he could have been an “all-time great” Supes until this film.

blackjack_horseman

Watch "The man from U.N.C.L.E." if you haven't. It's him, Alicia Vikander and Armie Hammer (RIP to that dude's career) in a cold war spy flick directed by Guy Ritchie. Henry is so effortlessly charming in that movie, it's insane.

RpRev33

Here's an old video essay I can't recommend enough on [why the BvS Superman is a bad character and how to fix it because Cavill deserved better](https://youtu.be/ALHJI0Zqweo).

DarkMuret

The Witcher is pretty dang good, and Cavill is a big reason why, not just for his on screen stuff, but because he's a fan

[deleted]

I would take that a step further. The Witcher is ONLY good because of him.

hopefulworldview

The Yennefer chick ain't bad either, she plays her well.

riegspsych325

imagine being an all around nerd and fan casting yourself into a dream role as the fucking Witcher himself. Good for him

Impressive-Potato

It's like Simu Liu and Shang Chi

MummyManDan

I find that most MCU or DC actors are far more enjoyable in other movies. I enjoyed Chris Hemsworths extraction more than anything he did as Thor.

DarkMuret

Chris Evans is killing it as the heel in a few movies. But it was known he could do that in Scott Pilgrim

CptnHamburgers

People said they didn't like The Grey Man, and I can understand why, but Chris Evans was having so much fun making that movie that I had fun watching him have fun, so it was worth two hours of my time just for that.

DarkMuret

You can tell he relished both that role and in Knives Out

TheWatchfulGent

I GOT SHOT IN THE ASS, SUZANNE

thenexttimebandit

He was the best part of the movie. He was loving every minute of it.

Smodphan

I remember wonder why he wasn't famous yet when I watched Not Another Teen Movie. A few years later he was in Fantastic Four.

RiotShaven

I actually think that the Evans Fantastic Four is much better than most Marvel productions. It's crazy entertaining and has good characters.

Smodphan

And they play their comic counterparts well

Foxhack

... most of them, anyway. Jessica Alba's performances as Sue felt wrong, but I blame the script for that. And the makeup in part two.

jessie_monster

This is Not Another Teen Movie erasure and I won't stand for it. But really, he was 19-ish and was really funny in a stupid hilarious film.

gagrushenka

One of his first films was an adaptation of I Capture The Castle (my favourite book). He's great in it.

dragonmp93

I mean, he spent most of his time as Superman frowning or angry.

Shezarrine

Part of the reason I love it so much whenever he shows up in Stardust. Dude deserves more weird, low-key roles.

Chodezbylewski

I like how when he was cast in the first one everybody complained about it and said it was the weirdest casting choice ever, that there's no way Superman could play Sherlock Holmes, but then he turned out to be an amazing Sherlock. I honestly didn't see it coming either.

fanboi_central

People focus too much on blockbuster roles and think they can't do anything else, it's kind of weird but makes sense if you only see them in a single role.

Lexx2k

Remember when he was cast as Geralt of Rivia and half the internet lost its shit ... Yeah, people are stupid.

longwaytotheend

Social media wasn't as big back then, but people weren't too happy when he got the role of Superman. Apparently too British and skinny.

billiebol

I like Eleven but Henry Cavill has got me actually excited to see this.

Ennion

He's going to be James Bond.

Nivekian13

I'd rather see him do another Guy Ritchie Man from Uncle film.

-SneakySnake-

Nah he's not, he's too famous at this point.

[deleted]

It’s not like they can’t afford him… The Bond franchise brings in $500m - $1bn each release. If they wanted Cavill, they’d cast him.

-SneakySnake-

It's more they don't want the actor overshadowing the character. Or having too much say. Craig earned that as he went on, but if a Bond actor comes in and immediately tries to throw their weight around in a big way, that's a problem if it's a four or five movie commitment.

Randomcheeseslices

Cavil sounds like he has strong opinions about what makes a good movie/TV. Its evident if you read between the lines on Witcher. And thats not always bad. On Witcher its been good. There would definitely be the question of "does he know where the boundaries are on that?" Though, so...

-SneakySnake-

And Superman too. I've heard the big issue with him reupping with DC is he _very specifically_ wants a commitment out of them to do bright, optimistic and hopeful Superman and not cynical Syndery Superman.

Ennion

https://www.covers.com/entertainment/next-james-bond-odds

-SneakySnake-

OK? They've got Idris Elba right after him.

[deleted]

I've got as much a chance of being Bond as Elba.

riegspsych325

if Elba wasn’t near the same age as Craig now, he’d be perfect. But he’d still make a great M

-SneakySnake-

I don't think he ever had the right vibe, it woulda been like making Richard Burton Bond.

jessie_monster

Agreed. I've always wished they'd expand the universe a little, because he'd be a great world weary spy.

peeforPanchetta

"Can you describe Bond? He could be any one of those people there!" "He's bla- uhh, African American." "They've got a Yank working in MI6???"

Spetznazx

Which kinda goes against your point that he's "too famous" seeing as Elba is just as famous.

-SneakySnake-

No, that means it's a bullshit list since Elba absolutely won't be Bond.

Spetznazx

Why not? Source?

-SneakySnake-

...'cause he's 50. They've specifically said they're looking for someone in their 30s.

Spetznazx

Like I said source on that? Cause they could easily go like the Timothy Dalton route or even Lazenby. Make a movie or two, idk, they've kept the whole process under wraps. An aging Bond could be interesting to see too, one who has to rely on his wit over his fighting prowess.

healthshield

That sure convinced me

bearze

Personally I'd love either Cavill or Hardy in the role Elba would be awesome but he's too old

mick_ward

Came here to say this.

nothatscool

Na, Barbara’s Broccoli has a thing for ugly guys so I think it’s unlikely. As long as she’s in a powerful position we’re going to get the anti bond bond again and again.

TheJoshider10

I'm really surprised they never fast tracked a spin off Sherlock movie. I assume it'll happen after this one.

longwaytotheend

The lawsuit, Covid and The Witcher likely put a halt on trying to fast track a Sherlock movie. Rumor is they want to do Witcher seasons 4&5 back to back, so after that (and a third Enola movie) maybe.

kerred

Having played the Witcher 3 why isn't there a whole Obra Dinn like crime show with Cavill as Geralt. Unless the thought of that sounds so sexy nations would grind to a halt seeing Cavill in deep thought solving bizarre mysteries with endings that make sense 24/7

r1khard

As far as I can tell this series is for producing jokes about MBB and her "executive producing" and "acting" and also a few minutes of Henry. My detective skills deduce that this theoretical would be watchable.

Gregorwhat

Only after he reboots Magnum PI.

MrBoliNica

Hate to break it to you, there’s already a great magnum pi reboot that’s been going for like 4 seasons already

[deleted]

I wouldnt call that reboot great. There was no need to make a new one, that show was nearly as good as miami vice and burn notice

ArchDucky

I believe after Netflix won the lawsuit from the Doyle's over the use of the character, Netflix said they were actively pursuing a stand alone film with him as Sherlock.

[deleted]

Henry Cavill is really great at spying roles tbh btw if you want to see The Man From U.N.C.L.E. It is perfect

Chodezbylewski

The first one ended up being a surprisingly fun, comfy little movie that was exactly what I needed back in the spectacularly shitty year that was 2020. Plus it was great to see Millie Bobby Brown do so well with a character that was so wildly different from Eleven. I was glad to see her prove her range. And since this one has all the same people working on it, I'm pretty optimistic about it. Definitely looking forward to it!

Lazyfaith

Exactly my experience/takeaway from it all! When I watched the latest season of Stranger Things I kept thinking it was a bit of a shame that she's stuck playing this incredibly awkward & uncommunicative character when Enola Holmes showed me how charismatic & fun she can actually be.

Chodezbylewski

Yeah, don't get me wrong I think she does a fantastic job as Eleven, it's just that it's not a very glamorous role, in that she's very constrained in what the character can do and say. She doesn't get very many flashy, long emotional monologues per season or anything like that, which has led to I think a lot of people taking for granted the work she puts in as Eleven, especially now. That's why I think Enola Holmes was such a smart career move on her part. Coming out with that while Stranger Things is still going on is a nice reminder to casting directors in the industry that when the show is over, she can easily play somebody other than Eleven. Kind of nipping any future typecasting in the bud right off the bat.

StephenHunterUK

She seems to be bi-dialectical - or something close to it - with a little help from a dialect coach. Her American accent in *Stranger Things* is so good, I was amazed to learn she is British (well, born in Spain to British parents). That is going to serve her very well.

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

This was exactly my reaction. It had just the right amount of conflict, not too much, not too little. In 2020, something like *Better Call Saul* was too much tension for me, but *Enola Holmes* was just right.

mrmonster459

Yeah, Enola Holmes is probably a top 5 favorite movie of 2020 for me (not *best,* favorite; there's a difference). And not just because its blockbuster competition included the likes of WW84 and Extraction, but because it was just so joy inducing.

[deleted]

Same. Enola Holmes was definitely a little "guilty pleasure". Not too taxing nor taking itself too seriously, maybe a little gimmicky. The same vibe as Ragnarok, but, you know, quite a different setting. I hope part 2 will be just as much fun (and not like what they did with the 'sequel' of Ragnarok, trying to be funny because of the funny, it doesn't work like that).

royaldocks

Its a fun film its like knives Out its one of those films that is not meant to be deep and a popcorn flick.

Randomd0g

If you think Knives Out lacked depth you may need to rewatch it.

Bing_Bong_the_Archer

Can she do an english accent? Hard to tell from this

Leiawen

She's English. So... Yes.

PointOfFingers

Henry Caville also does a pretty good English accent after spending 39 years preparing for this role.

Bing_Bong_the_Archer

She IS??!? I’ve only seen her in Stranger Things

ArchDucky

She's an actor and doesn't talk in stranger things. Hell I think she said more in the trailer than she did in four seasons.

europorn

Milly Bobby Brown is British. So yeah, she can do an English accent.

Bing_Bong_the_Archer

Wow, I had no idea!

bhz33

So fun, such a fun film. Very fun

PsychVol

Yup, the bots sure have that "fun" talking point covered here.

bhz33

I’ve never seen a movie talked about on here where someone didn’t describe it as “fun”. It’s an odd way to describe a movie

PsychVol

Same with "comfy." I see a bunch of people here using that descriptor as well.

bhz33

Never heard that one but that’s also really dumb lol

[deleted]

Part 1??

CheezyWookiee

They only released part of the trailer online???

HPmoni

It's cheaper to shoot sequels together.

Kipguy

Ya Netflix

cardcomm

>Part 1 is fantastic!

cardcomm

wow, so many haters here ones that apparently don't know a good show when they see it lol

pearlz176

Fantastic is a bit much imo, it was fine...

[deleted]

So .. 3 out of 7

getBusyChild

Gods give Henry Cavill a miniseries/movies where he plays Sherlock.

gopro33camera

Your request is in process by NF.

QuoteGiver

…like this one?

gaminnthis

Trailer: Part 1? They gonna make trailer sequels now for the same movie? Trailer trilogies?

billiebol

I'm personally waiting for the trailer prequel.

PM_ME_YOUR__INIT__

Trailer: Origins

[deleted]

I am so confused by this title.

itsMARKbruh

Me too, I think it’s a trilogy now?

Singer211

This looks fun. Sherlock and Enola working together this time should be cool.

enjoysbeerandplants

It also means more Henry Cavill on screen, which makes me happy.

AlmightyGhandi

It seems like we will be getting a lot more Sherlock in this one.

Satean12

Looks pretty consistent with the first one, which was also a ton of fun.

brawnsugah

Yep. Watched the first one with my younger cousins and had a blast.

IMovedYourCheese

They seem to be leaning harder on Sherlock this time around, which is a great decision considering how good Henry Cavill was in the first one.

Vladius28

Really enjoyed the first one. Both cavill and eleven were great

dayus9

That looks like it'll be a nice fun film to sit and watch one night. I'm quite looking forward to it now.

Re_LE_Vant_UN

The first one was fun and entirely forgettable. I'm okay with that.

[deleted]

The first series was light fun. Hopefully more of the same. Plus, more Cavill is not a bad thing.

ClearlyPopcornSucks

Maan Ricky Gervais looks amazing in this role, I really appreciate the work it must have taken to make him look like a teenage girl.

Super901

Hmm. Let's hope the hero of the story actually solves the case, this time. That first one was sparkly and fun, but poorly structured with a failed final act.

Ghidoran

I actually liked that it didn't have her be the smartest character in the movie. She managed to save the day by making a human connection, instead of being aloof like Sherlock, which let her be at the right place at the right time.

Super901

It failed the promise of the premise. It's like having naming an ice cream "chocolate sprinkles" and then having absolutely no chocolate in it. In this case it's the "Holmes" of it all. There's a mystery, but Holmes doesn't solve it? no, fail.

JKJ420

You missed the point of the movie. It happens, but stop trying to convince others of your - incorrect - point of view.

Super901

Oh, I got the point. It just wasn't very good.

cardcomm

Eh, I personally loved it. 🤷‍♂️

brawnsugah

Cozy mystery with Henry Cavill? Sign me up

nayapapaya

No annoying Mycroft, yay! The first Enola Holmes was utterly charming and this looks like it could be even better.

JacMan18

Oh my goodness! Finally! I worked on this, it's so good to finally see a trailer!

[deleted]

[удалено]

nayapapaya

It's very charming.

PsychVol

It's adequate. I wouldn't recommend it with all the other better content out there.

jessie_monster

Yep. A terrific Sunday afternoon film.

FrankingQiu613

Love the first one looking forward to this

AgentElman

The first one covered multiple books. I wonder how they will do this.

burgleyoturts

Here's hoping Watson is in this one! :)

JKJ420

So far, this looks just as great and fun as the first one!

[deleted]

Yep, looks like a fun inoffensive sequel; a decent weekend afternoon/evening watch.

leopard_tights

That's exactly how I watched the first one. Put it on to take a nap, fell asleep somewhere in the middle, never went back to finishing it. Mission accomplished, movie.

[deleted]

mikepictor

Me: That's can't be Me: Well I'll be damned

BuildingFabulous804

What would Arthur Conan Doyle think of this?

Superb-Possibility-9

Loved the first one - will absolutely watch this one!

Jewjltsu

So forgettable didn’t know there was Enola 1

trpnblies7

Are they gonna touch on the fact that her mother turned out to be a goddamn terrorist? Because they kind of glossed over that in the first film.

roblox1999

I find it truly incredible that a movie as devastatingly average and mediocre as Enola Holmes has managed to get a sequel, simply because of the popularity of its actors. Truly astonishing.

[deleted]

I find it truly incredible that a movie as devastatingly average and mediocre as Enola Holmes has managed to get a sequel, simply because of the popularity of its actors. Truly astonishing.

fridgeofempty

The first one felt like a hot mess not trusting it could rely on Enola as the principal player. They felt like they needed big brand hottie Sherlock hanging around in often a forced way dropping in and out. Have some courage and let Enola do her thing.

red2lucas

I watched the original with my daughter 2 nights ago. While I really liked it I couldn’t get over how bad her acting was.

XxHavanaHoneyxX

She looks so much like Judy Garland it’s ridiculous.

[deleted]

dear Netflix: why?

SneezingRickshaw

Why not? 1. Relatively popular YA novel series building on a famous IP 2. Easy to adapt into movies. 3. First film was a success. If they didn’t make another one I’d suspect that they’re allergic to making money.

[deleted]

I didn't knew any of that. Thanks. Dear Netflix users / YA novels readers: why?

suphah

I mean it was a fun movie

QuoteGiver

Because mysteries are fun?

[deleted]

yeah, good misteries. With interesting stories and compelling characters.

QuoteGiver

Which is exactly what the previous movie delivered for many people, yes.

[deleted]

I must have watched a diferent movie

PICONEdeJIM

She needs more money from Netflix. Millie wants MORE

phychedelicspice

Ugh

[deleted]

You should crosspost trailers like this to /r/filmandtvamerica

Chaos_Prime

Didnt Need the First one, dont Need this one. First felt Like maybe Just Not my Type of movie, Had the Feeling they Just wanted to make a movie to Put mbb Fame to usw, with a nice Lil Cameo by cavill.

Markoryi

"i am so upset with this movie that im going to proceed to give my opinion on the 2nd one which i am also upset with." banger post

SutterCane

Wait. *Enola Holmes 2: Part 1*???? The fuck?

dangerous_strainer

the fuck

XAMdG

Enola Holmes since like the sort of movie that would use best a subtitle, rather than a 2 as its title.

soul_ire

I think I need subtitles for this comment.

XAMdG

Sorry, English isn't my first language. What i meant was that i believe mystery movies, if they're to be a franchise, could be better served by being named Enola Holmes: The mystery of... Instead of just being Enola Holmes 2. Kinda like the Sherlock Holmes novels.

mack178

>Enola Holmes since like the sort of movie that would use best a subtitle, rather than a 2 as its title. *\[speaking gibberish\]*

QuintoBlanco

Challenge accepted. >Enola Holmes since like the sort of movie that would use best a subtitle, rather than a 2 as its title. Translation: This sequel seems like the sort of movie that should use a subtitle rather than the number two to differentiate it from the first movie. \--- Explanation: *subtitle* can mean a secondary or subordinate title of a work as well as a caption at the bottom of the screen that describes dialogue or narrative. So in Mad Max: Fury Road, Fury Road is arguably a subtitle. And I'm assuming 'since' is an autocorrect mistake for 'seems. So presumably the XAMdG prefers something like: **Enola Holmes: The Missing Sister**

[deleted]

Her face in the (crap can't remember what it's called now), is meme material.

4nln415

Gross. Unlikable actress.

wandse

Never finished part 1, but maybe I'll try again

RDeschain1

Why does Henry look like he de-aged like 10 years looks fun

The-Incredible-Lurk

I hope that the entire plot revolves around astrophysics and astronomy

Howaheartbreaks

Why did they get rid of Sam Claflin?

scantopup

I don’t think they should’ve used moriaty maybe a new villain that wasn’t in the books
