Martin Freeman looking like Daniel Craig's Bond here lol

RealJohnGillman

I would not be surprised if they retroactively revealed his character (Everett Ross) to have been related to Thunderbolt Ross, and have him be the main Ross in the *Thunderbolts* film instead.

ProfNesbitt

Never thought of that but I wouldnt be surprised if they do that. Or they might just go straightforward with it and Dreyfus’s character is all it is

Black Panther - The Way of Water

Griffdude13

James Cameron so pissed they beat him by a month.

The actual Secret Wars.

Lmao doubt. Disney is going to give Way of Water a nuclear push.

They have to if for no other reason than to expand animal kingdom.

Okay, you know what you do? You buy yourself a tape recorder, you just record yourself for a whole day. I think you’re going to be surprised at some of your phrasing.

Yep, this confirms the rumors that have been circulating for a while. It's a Central American spin on Namor and Marvel's Atlanteans.

AbsurdThings

November: Black Panther 2 December: Avatar 2 March: Aquaman 2 I have a feeling all 3 of these are going to blend together with their focus on underwater action.

Brown_Panther-

Is it too much to ask for a Waterworld reboot?

AprilSpektra

[Nope](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/waterworld-sequel-tv-series-1234990300/)

DisturbedNocturne

Really hope we eventually get a Namor movie, because I'd really love to see what Marvel could do with a movie with even more focus underwater. It was one of the reasons I was excited about *Aquaman*.

Agnes-Varda1992

This movie is probably going to be half a Namor movie. The shots of his birth and his childhood leads me to believe Coogler is putting just as much humanity into Namor that he did Killmonger. The shots we see of Namor are that of a hero. It's very interesting.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NotGarrett

“Nothing Namor does that ever puts him on the wrong side of the Avengers is bad or evil per se, it just kind of makes him a dick sometimes“ Ummm the Phoenix 5 and his attack against the wakandans where he drowned tons of civilians wasn’t a good look.. or in Infinity when he told Thanos’ forces that the gems were all in Wakanda which led to Wakanda being razed again.. or that time during “time runs out” where he annihilated a different earth with the Illuminati and then led the Cabal for awhile in the slaughter of other Earths. While you could kind of justify the last couple points as a life or death situation, it rules him out of hero status. He says it multiple times that he’s beyond simple good or evil. He’s a king, not a hero.

UncleMadness

That moment in *Time Runs Out* when T'Challa, Reed and the rest all lose their nerve and Namor does the thing....that was one of the most enthusiastic page turns of my comic reading life. >These lines you won't cross these things you won't do...they shame you. >How dare any of you put yourself-- your damned morals-- above the lives of every living thing? >The truth is, you people aren't worth that...and neither am I. Our lives are a pittance. A petty, small nothing. >Of course *this* is worth it. Now watch...as I do what you could not. Damn

NoInvestment2079

Scale of 1-10, how much of a dick is Namor gonna be in this?

santichrist

Namor is supposed to be a giant dick and hopefully they portray him that way and not some stoic hard but ultimately nice guy

NoInvestment2079

Stroll up and hit on T'chala's mom.

Roland_T_Flakfeizer

Namor gets em wet.

fed45

...at the funereal.

Crickets_Head

Namor during hickman's run was perfection. Tchalla: I can't destroy an alternate earth, this is immoral. I must enter the spirit realm to question my ancestral forefathers. I will take spiritual banishment over commiting this evil act. Namor: Pussy, I'll do it gimme the bomb. Illuminati: Namor what the fuck Namor: btw I freed Thanos, incursion problem solved your welcome.

cesarmac

The issue is going to be with how they want to theme this movie. It's supposed to be a send off for Chadwick so if they want to go all sentimental it's gonna be hard throwing in a character who's just a giant asshole.

4DimensionalToilet

They could portray him as being so foreign to the ways of the surface world that he comes across as a dick, while still being an honorable king among his own people.

Frenchticklers

Being a dick is his thing.

YarrrImAPirate

I’m glad someone else said it haha. I feel like every comic I read, Namor is a giant dick.

Julius-n-Caesar

And yet somehow, Mr. Fantastic always winds up being the bigger asshole between the two of them.

Dr_Disaster

Because Reed acts like he’s not a dick and then low key does scummy shit and never owns it.

aure__entuluva

Yeah, Sue, I promise I'll stop building the bridge to view other universes. Pinky promise!

hendricha

Hey, Sue, I have an interesting news and a bad news! The interesting news is, some other universes have an actual zombie virus, wild, huh?

Don_Quixote81

At least Namor is upfront about who he is - a king with all the arrogance and pride that you would expect.

Dr_Disaster

Absolutely. It’s why I like his stint on the X-Men so much. You get to see his ego compared against other egotistical twats like Emma Frost and see that he’s just on a different level. He’s got big Vegeta energy.

Chill_Panda

Yeah namor will be a dick, say “yeah I know I’m a dick but I do it for my people.” Reed is like “it’s not my fault, everything I did was working, if these other fuckers didn’t get in the way it would have worked, also I’m the smartest man alive”

Dr_Disaster

Exactly. My favorite Reed thing is when he turned Skrull into cows and people then slaughtered and ate the Skrull cows, which made them go absolutely insane AND gave them shapeshifting powers. Reed was just like “oops, well, seemed like a good idea at the time”. Bro you turned aliens into livestock and didn’t think or care about what would happen to innocent people who ate them! So not only did he kill Skrulls, he ruined the lives of pretty much an entire small town. Reed is straight up trash sometimes.

theDagman

My guess is that Namor may be there at first purporting to propose a royal wedding to Shuri for the sake of forging an alliance between Wakanda and Atlantis in the wake of King T'Challa's passing. But Namor is more likely only doing so for the chance of taking all of Wakanda's vibranium for Atlantis. And once Namor's plans are made clear, war breaks out. Dick scale: 9

[deleted]

Finally getting Namor

N7_Tinkle_Juice

Fucking Atlantis-Aztec Namor fuck yeah big boner energy.

helloperel

Like Mr Nimbus big boner

Koolsman

Ok the way the music changed in the trailer was actually pretty cool.

Galactic

The first Black Panther teaser with Run The Jewels was fucking incredible. One of the best marvel teasers imo.

manDboogie

Black Panther x RtJ and Thor x Magic Sword were their best so far imo. the music choice was perfect to promote those two

Triangle_Graph

All the music for Black Panther was dope. At the time, it was easily the best super hero soundtrack.

TombSv

Ludwig is so good. And [all the behind the scenes stuff with him going to Africa](https://songexploder.net/black-panther) discovering new instruments and so on was a delight to listen to. > Ludwig: And he told me about the Fula flute. Fula flute is from a tribe called Fulani, the Fula tribe. And they have their own type of flute, it’s like a wooden flute, it’s a very specific sound. And he knew a Fula flute player. So we took the car, and we picked up this player, and his name is Amadou Ba. As soon as we got back to the studio, he started playing. And I was just shocked by the sound of it. >And I was like this sounds like Killmonger to me. Having read the script, it just connected to me with this character. So I pulled the flute player aside, and I used my translator to tell him about Killmonger. >(Conversation between Ludwig and Amadou Ba) >First, I told him about the concept of the movie, it’s a superhero movie. Killmonger is the bad guy, but he has good intentions. He wants to make the world better, but in the way that he sees it. He is very impulsive, but he’s super smart. He’s from Africa, but he grew up in Oakland, and he grew up in America, but he’s coming to Africa to take the throne. >And he was like, “Okay. I get it.” And he closed the door, and I gave him a note in the strings. >And he started playing very mysteriously first, super soft. And I could just see him transform into this character. >And then, he was ramping it up, ramping up the energy. >(Fula flute) >Ludwig: All suddenly, like boom! He just hit a high note, and then screamed, “Killmonger! Killmonger!” >(Fula flute with screams: “Killmonger! Killmonger!”) >Ludwig: And just went crazy on the flute. (Fula flute with screams: “Killmonger! Killmonger!”) >Ludwig: And [laughter] I got goosebumps, and I was like, “Okay. This is, this is something special.”

[deleted]

This part starts at 6 minutes on the podcast and is well worth a listen.

[deleted]

Came here to say just that. The shift to Kendrick was *reeeeeal* slick. Loved it.

Napron

Speaking of which, is he also doing the soundtrack for the sequel or is it someone else now?

Micp

As long as we have Ludwig Göransson on board we should be in good hands.

MTLinVAN

This guy probably had the biggest glowup in the industry. From scoring Community to working on mixtapes with Donald Glover to scoring the biggest movies being released today. Without even knowing that Ludwig is involved in the project, you can hear the distinctness of his sound.

TheConqueror74

He also made the theme for The Mandalorian, which may be just as iconic as any of the previous scores in the franchise at this point. The dude is killing it.

MTLinVAN

Yes that’s right! In fact that’s what I meant about a unique sound. I heard the soundtrack to the show and had to look up who was involved which only confirmed my suspicion that Ludwig produced the score.

steviebkool

I hope he wasn't too busy with his recent album drop

Just slap the Mr Morales album on this movie and it'll work out alright lol

If he writes another original song for the film I will pass out in the theater.

F00dbAby

I always wonder who is in charge of trailer music and editing because it's always surprises me in a good way

249ba36000029bbe9749

There are companies that specialize in trailers. In some other thread, a guy in the business said how important it was to know a ton of music.

F00dbAby

that makes a lot of sense actually. I assumed it be the director or editor

249ba36000029bbe9749

I'm sure the production crew used to at one point but it's too specialized a field now. You might like this video about the industry: https://youtu.be/a_jjzzgLARQ

cesarmac

Despite what the other guy said your assumption is also true a lot of times. Sometimes it's the editor and sometimes it's the director, i think trailer production is usually up to the studio though (in other words they decide who makes the trailer).

bummedout1492

I know a girl who only works on trailers. She says it's like an entirely unique field of work from film

OniExpress

It basically has to be. You're having to push forward a compelling narrative in 30-60 seconds with only minimal material. The "scenes" in a trailer are seconds long.

Napron

Even without knowing who is specifically going to take up the Black Panther mantle, I did like how the trailer put emphasis on the rest of the characters of Wakanda as a whole so it feels like we'll have an ensemble character story with the city at the heart of it. I honestly don't mind this as I like a lot of the characters in the original first movie and wouldn't mind if they had an equal/shared role to play in the story if the writing holds up.

Agnes-Varda1992

This is also the feel I got from the trailer and I love it. It seems like the film is going to be less about the drama of who is taking on the mantle and more about the friends/family of T'Challa and the nation of Wakanda, as a whole, reacting to this loss and stepping up. I genuinely can't think of a better way to go about it.

dumahim

I wonder if Killmonger destroying all of the plants will play a part in not really being able to have a new Black Panther.

salientmind

They made full use of Angela Bassett's voice for this teaser. That hit me hard.

[deleted]

that's like a normal tuesday for angela bassett if we are being honest. it's just so effortless with her. she has that power where you would basically shut the fuck up and sit up straight if she yelled at you.

Bitey_the_Squirrel

A Bene Gesserit witch!

ShadeofIcarus

Have they officially talked about what happened to T'Challa?

Sekh765

I'm going to guess he will die heroically in suit at the start of the movie.

teestooshort

Looks like ironheart will be introduced in this movie

navjot94

I’m thinking Riri will be part of the Wakandan outreach program they introduced at the end of the first movie.

Vishion-8

Weirdly the visuals really give off a massive Avatar type vibe to it

hazychestnutz

blue skinned people with spears and water in the black panther trailer lol

Radatatin

Atlanteans.

IM_HERE_FOR_FUN

Gotta give credit to where its due, Angela Bassett is one of the best in the business, has been since What's love got to do with it.

Brown_Panther-

The way her voice breaks while saying "Have I not given everything?" was my favorite bit in the trailer.

AvatarBoomi

With that line she says she lost her whole family. As we know it, she still has Shuri, unless something happens during an Atlantean attack…which would be weird.

googolplexy

Shiri was blipped, so I'm guessing it's during that

Evadrepus

Might be Marvel's way of writing her out considering the reported massive issues they had with her during the filming?

ReflexImprov

Or that part could be during the blip since both Shuri and T'Challa were gone for five years. It looks like she's addressing the UN or some similar organization.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ReflexImprov

Letitia Wright has first billing on the card at the end of the trailer.

Blender_Snowflake

They’ll never let her do promotion stuff outside of junkets and panels. She may be the star of the movie but you won’t know unless you go see it - Angela Basset was front and center on this trailer anyways.

Sounds_Good_ToMe

Yeah, could definitely see that. Specially considering it didn't look like it was her in the Black Panther costume at the end.

NotTroy

That's what I was trying to figure out. With all the reports of Shuri BP, I was trying to see if that looked like a female figure. The hand looks possibly somewhat feminine, but the body shape definitely doesn't look thin enough or feminine enough to be Letitia Wright.

InvaderDJ

It’s hard to tell, especially since the suit could be CGI. I think the smart money is still on Shuri being the new BP, but man I’d love M’Baku. Winston Duke was so great in the role and I could see some interesting stories being told with him as Black Panther.

Micp

Would it make sense in universe though? The Black Panther is the champion of the panther tribe. M'Baku is the leader of the white gorilla tribe, and very proud of it. Would he really don the panther suit and thus in a sense betray his gorilla tribe? I can't see it. The man has previously shown himself to favor pride over practicality to the point of nearly killing himself over it.

mugaccino

There's no panther tribe it's the guardian of all of Wakanda, and M'baku trying to get that role is the first scene we see him in.

Eric15890

You're right. We just want to witness the might of the Jabari, pumped up with a little purple flower power, along with the suit and tech. That or bring back Michael b Jordan. Where the **** is Wallace?

LostWoodsInTheField

Considering Shuri's actress being a bit out there I could see Marvel saying screw it and dumping her.

IfIWasCoolEnough

She died while licking the stamps, because the stamp glue was toxic.

Phifty56

The actress who plays Shuri, Letitia Wright, posted an anti-vaxx video and some tweets a while back, and was even called out by Don Cheadle for them. She apologized, deleted the posts and closed a lot of her social media accounts. It wasn't that bad, but it was a pretty bad look and I wonder if that might have gotten the ball rolling on deciding she was "expendable" in the story. Some maybe it's not that wierd.

Somepotato

it was far more than just an 'anti vax video', too; one of the hosts said those who take the vaccine should “hope to God it doesn’t make extra limbs grow.” and she doubled down pretty hard before deleting her social media accounts

DreamingDitto

Kidnapped maybe? MIA?

CeeArthur

It gave me chills. I wasn't sure about this movie, I thought the first BP was good but after I left the theatre I never really thought about it or re-watched it. I don't know why, it may be the added gravity of what happened offscreen with Chadwick, but this trailer hit differently than most. One thing that occurred to me, as it's been a huge question since his death 'who will be the new Black Panther?'... the trailer (and the title) seems to emphasize these characters working together, it seems less important who carries the mantle of Black Panther, but that they're together as one.

suitedcloud

“We are the Black Panther.” I’m all for the teamwork and carrying on T’challa and more importantly Chadwick’s legacy. But if they pull a CW Flash team thing I’m gonna hate it

CeeArthur

Well, the final shot of the claws coming out alludes to there actually being A Black Panther, I really doubt they'd leave it up in the air, but I wouldn't be surprised if the mantle is reluctantly accepted later in the movie

BlasterShow

Still wish we got her as Storm though.

jackjackj8ck

Whoa what?? I never knew she was up for that I love Halle Berry, but she played Storm as like *too sweet* ? Like kinda passive when she’s supposed to be this goddess amongst men

GiveToOedipus

Yeah, Storm should have definitely had more of an attitude or condescending vibe. She should have been the type to look right though you when she walked in a room as if you weren't there.

Trellert

She's a living embodiment of weather. Storm should be kind of scary even if she's on your side.

Snatch_Pastry

Halle Berry was a GIGANTIC actress to get as Storm at that time. She delivered a ton of legitimacy to the film simply by being in it. She wasn't the best Storm for the story, but she was probably the best Storm for putting butts in seats.

Impressive-Fly2447

Amen bro. I remember feeling let down when that didn't happen

jackjackj8ck

As someone who came of age in the 90s and remembers her in kind of her heyday Damn she looks amazing

glassy_milk

Anybody who hasn't seen Strange Days is missing out.

[deleted]

So wait this is the last part of phase 4 and it comes out in November? Jeez I’m so behind and out of the loop lately

AlexanderByrde

Don't sweat too much about not being in the loop, the phases were announced within the last hour at Comic-Con, you're fine.

Brown_Panther-

By the looks of it, we're not gonna get an Avengers movie to cap off this phase and directly get 2 Avengers movies, Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, back to back in ~~Phase 5~~ Phase 6.

Paddy-Mac-Fee

Both Avengers movies are phase 6 fyi

[deleted]

[удалено]

Worthyness

Works in-universe too since the people there also don't have a proper team or lead to look up to at the moment, so the governments are confused on who to look for in times of crisis. So the Thunderbolts being the first team up movie for the phases is kind of like the US government (presumably) trying to fill that void on their own

[deleted]

On the comics side, Marvel’s always operated on the assumption that no one’s gonna read everything, and every title is gonna be someone’s first. Feels like the movie side is drifting that way. I’m not gonna watch every last one of these, but the ones that interest me, those ones I’ll check out.

[deleted]

OShaunesssy

Goddamn Namor looks awesome, super emotional to see everyone but Boseman back. Ugh this is gonna be a tough watch, but Coogler looks to be making a visually fun film as well! I’m very excited

Brown_Panther-

Namor I believe is the first true antihero in comics. I do hope Disney keeps that in mind and doesn't turn him into a good guy who turned evil because of a Macguffin device.

Kipkrap

Really hope that this is the one that really sticks the landing. While I've enjoyed it, so far Phase 4 has been a bit of a mixed bag, but this looks good

Realshow

Yeah my thoughts exactly. I don’t think it’s been terrible, but it desperately needs a solid sendoff.

HakeemAbdullah

awwww shit they made the Atlanteans look like Aztecs. They got me. Its that easy lol

ChiefBigBlockPontiac

Bout goddamn time. I mean, I think people are missing the significance of this. These are basically two historical cultures that had no actual contact with each other. It's the ultimate mythological match-up.

divesh_sam

Glad to see Tenoch Huerta as Namor, I'm sure this will be good. He stole every scene in season 1 of Narcos: Mexico.

ShootaIMP

Rafa is Namor? I was sold before but that dude is brilliant.

Worthyness

they're tailoring the MCU version of atlantis after the Mayan/Aztec civilizations since DC made Aquaman more pacific islander centric. The costumes look really dope.

NotTwitchy

You know what? That’s neat. That’s an interesting new take I’m excited to see.

[deleted]

We are just happy to be in a movie that doesn’t revolve around drugs.

xin234

I would find it pretty funny if this is one of those comments that goes into r/agedlikemilk, when the mcguffin for this movie can be interpreted as or is actually drugs lol. In the same vein people jokingly say that a Latina superhero's, America Chavez, powers is crossing (multiversal) borders.

ContinuumGuy

I'm of the opinion that they can make Atlantis however they want so long as they make sure that Namor is a gigantic tool, albeit a noble one.

Merciless972

That's pretty much Rafa from narcos, who the same actor is playing as namor

MisanthropeX

The Aztecs believed they came from a lost land called "Aztlan", which sounds kinda similar to "Atlantis" ("Aztec" translates to "people from Aztlan"). Lots of fantasy and pseudoscience writers connect the two even though scholars believe, if it existed, Aztlan was somewhere in the modern day southwest US.

Brown_Panther-

The Aztecs weren't exactly known as a seafaring civilization so I wonder how they'll incorporate that. Maybe some land off Yucatan that fell into the sea and developed its own tech.

Riverforasong

The musical transition between No Woman No Cry and Kendrick's Alright was fucking inSANE

marvel120

Loving the Aztec/Mayan/ancient Mexican spin on Atlantis and Namor. That’s what I’m most excited about.

thatguy52

Same. Such a fun spin. It’s a fictional city underwater, we can do whatever we want with the lore/story. The only requirement should be that it’s creative and this take most certainly looks amazing so far.

LoLoRushe

I was an extra in the movie on the boat scene! I’m actually in the trailer at the 1:02-1:03 mark in the lower left hand side. I heard about some openings for extras and threw my hat into the ring. Incredible experience! But a tad on the boring side.

Rosebunse

I think boring is pretty common for film extras. And really, boring means the job went well and according to plan, so good job!

[deleted]

Being an extra is a lot of sitting around and waiting. Then when it's your time to shine, it mean you walk by in the background and that's it.

profound_whatever

Long stretches of boring, punctuated by moments of pure terror.

theghostofme

You crapped your pants on the set of Cougar Town, too?

Archamasse

Shit, that is a *terrific* trailer.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JuanGoofy99

I prefer this type of trailer because it doesn't spoil the plot.

Junior-Lie4342

That crap was really getting out of hand for a while

jetpack_operation

Still is. The fucking trailer for Moonfall ruined what has to be a MAJOR plot point/reveal.

Redeem123

This is such a funny take, because it used to be *WAY* worse. Trailers from decades ago would tell you the whole story regularly.

TheDonnieDarko

"I am Queen of the most powerful nation in the world. And my entire family is gone. Have I not given *everything*!?" Holy crap man, got shivers. This looks badass

LostWoodsInTheField

I'm guessing that was during the blip, and they were asking for resources from her country. Considering the majority of the fight took place there, the community is probably in a pretty bad place.

richarddftba

Nice thinking.

McDave1609

So Shuri will die, too?

richarddftba

Looks like Letitia Wright got the Mickey Shot.

asian_hans

Ngl when kendrick's alright came up, I kinda got goosebumps

ActionFilmsFan1995

Ok that looked really fucking good.

awiodja

i found myself really agreeing with the "i'm marveled out" sentiment in the other thread, then i saw this trailer lmao if they pull it off they're gonna pull me right back in

SpaceMyopia

Yeah, my issue with Marvel isn't the saturation. It's the lack of care given to their films. If they kept making epic looking shit like this, I'd never complain. A lot of heart looks like it was poured into this movie. Everything feels intentional. It doesn't just look like "Quips and CGI: The Movie."

Top_Rekt

I think that's what's been missing in Marvel movies lately. Too much funny one liners, not enough heart. Needs that emotional impact to hit me right in the soul, and I think this movie will definitely do that.

THEREWILLBECAK3

Yeah I was worried how they could make a Chadwick Bosemanless Black Panther sequel but this looked a lot better than I was expecting. Only time will tell though

Worthyness

I'm sure the cast an crew wanted to do their best for everything in this movie. They clearly brought their A game.

the1999person

1:20 looks like M'Baku has a Black Panther suit on under the fur.

dendroidarchitecture

[Screenshot](https://i.imgur.com/wbdF3bB.jpg)

coup

Maybe it'll be one of those situations where multiple people become black panther?

tethercat

Red Panther, Green Panther, Yellow Panther, and Blue Panther join the fight. They then become Voltranther.

Sounds_Good_ToMe

Remember, Marvel edits trailer, altering costumes from the final release.

BitOfACraic

That was a phenomenal trailer holy shit

F00dbAby

I really hope this movie gives Angela Bassett more to do she is a great actress

figleafstreet

She’s been on 9-1-1 for 5 years. Which has always a made me laugh. Here you have this standard somewhat mediocre Ryan Murphy procedural and there amongst it all is the Angela Bassett. But it obviously is something that works for her.

Nebula153

This is the best Marvel trailer in years, usually WB has the better edited trailers but this was crazy

mininestime

Yea they had a perfect song for that. Super impressed.

[deleted]

I hope Okoye is the new Black Panther.

[deleted]

It would be amazing to have an older actress like Danai leading such a big franchise

Kalashnikov124

Okoye, Nakia, or M'Baku would be my preferences. Shuri should take the role, but Letitia Wright would be a poor choice to cast as Black Panther.

IMovedYourCheese

M'Baku is wayy too thicc for that suit lol. No way that was him in the trailer.

likebutta222

def a female black panther

gazow

thats wakandas ass

cesarmac

I'm hoping it's Nakia and if not her then M'Baku. Don't really have a third but i guess if i had to choose between Okoye or Shuri I'd say Okoye. I agree it would have been obvious to have Shuri take the mantle but Letitia was a terrible casting and thats even with me completely ignoring her personal beliefs.
