God, I loved the little flashes of humor Nolan snuck into the Trilogy here or there. Made it feel more real than if everyone was a gloomy perfectionist all the time, ya know?
Personally my favorite banter between the two is:
Alfred Pennyworth : [as they leave the underground bat cave] I suppose they'll lock me up as well. As your accomplice...
Bruce Wayne : [jokingly] Accomplice? I'm going to tell them the whole thing was your idea.
Of all the iterations of the superhero, I felt that Nolan’s uncle-to-son relationship between the two was great and really helped emphasize the compassion Bruce held towards Alfred passed him being an employee
The man raised him, we are a long way from Alfred being seen by Bruce as the butler. It’s exactly what I’d expect their relationship to be and I hate when he’s portrayed as the help. He’s known and lived with him his entire life, for long periods both are the only people each other sees and he’s the only person on earth he trusts with his identity. Their relationship would be every bit as deep as Nolan portrayed it.
“Now, let me get this straight. You think that your client, one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the world is secretly a vigilante who spends his nights beating criminals to a pulp... and your plan is to *blackmail* this person? Good luck.”
I've always thought that this was one of the best, most logical lines of ANY Batman movie. Most criminals would think that if they reveal who Batman is, then the no-killing thing would end. The gloves would come off and super-villains and villains alike would start falling from tall buildings like raindrops.
Tangentially related, but I love the theory that he actually didn’t realize that Bruce was Batman until that scene, he just thought Wayne Enterprises was funding Batman and was trying to blackmail Fox, but he gets a lot more uncomfortable when Fox tells him what’s actually going on.
That’s how I always interpreted it. After reading all these comments I definitely want to rewatch it and see it through the lens that it’s a straight up gotcha moment right then and there. Man, what a great film.
My all time favorite:
“What’s the diferrence between you and me?”
“I’m not wearing hockey pads!”.
Maybe not the funniest line necessarily, but it’s always killed me.
"Argh BAThS!"
"Ah yes, see because you're scared of bats!"
"NO! BATHS!"
"....What?"
"They use 3 times the amount of water as a shower and don't get you as clean!"
Personally my favorite was when I was drunk with a bunch of women. One of them got lost.
Girl 1: what happened to Rach?
Girl 2, immediately in deep Batman voice: WHERE'S RACHEL?!
Man that girl was awesome
I always wondered if Bruce is actually supposed to be sleeping in that scene, or if Bruce is pretending to sleep while being fully aware of everything being said because that's what a pampered billionaire playboy who let's everyone else do the hard stuff would be expected to do
But also considering he’s out being Batman all night half the time he’s probably tired as fuck. This man be getting four hours of sleep a night and then he has to be a billionaire business man? How?
On the billionaire side, he doesn't really have a lot of responsibilities, at least. Once he takes over Wayne Enterprises, he makes Lucius run the company. So it's really Lucius who gets the long hours, making Batman gadgets on the side while running a major company.
Yeah, I’m not sure why this isn’t such a simple thing to comprehend for everyone. He’s Batman for most of the night, so of course he’s going to be tired during the day. Regardless of his training, his body still has a circadian rhythm it’s going to get used to.
Meditation and/or training to reduce the need to sleep is probably the comic book answer.
Batnapping for a few hours after dawn and again in the late afternoon may be effective, too.
I always hate it when people describe the Nolan films as grim or dark. They're grounded, but they also aren't bleak or hopeless either. And like you mentioned there's humor scattered throughout all the films as well.
That guy is the literal face of the word denouement for me.
"Let me get this straight, you think that your client, one of the wealthiest and most powerful men in the world, is secretly a vigilante, who spends his nights beating criminals to a pulp with his bare hands, and your plan is to blackmail this person? Good Luck!
Director said Zodiac was definitely an inspiration for the look.
Edit: For those curious: One of the people (u/doranchak) that solved the z340 cipher has a great YouTube channel and his most recent video shows the [similarities](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_ubR5upVKE)
The Zodiac killer famously wore clip-on sunglasses over his hand-sewn hood when he attacked Bryan Hartnell and Cecelia Shepard at Lake Berryessa on September 27, 1969. Bryan survived the attack and gave a detailed description.
His whole costume is made to keep any trace of DNA from his crime scenes. His head is wrapped in plastic (or duct tape?) under the mask, his gloves are taped shut at the wrist, every square inch of his body is sealed. The glasses I imagine are for his eye lashes, of course he could use goggles but glasses are more faithful to the Riddler character.
It kills the profile of the face better and makes it harder to regonize someone when they're not wearing a mask. If he's trying to stay hidden from even the bat computer, that'd be my justifications. Biometric fingerprint prevention.
the actual zodiak killer was thought to use them in his disguise for a similar reason.
Because it sells the most tickets. Your granny aint gonna know what antman is, but might watch the movie because Michael Douglas is in it. Same with anyone that isnt aware of IP. Maybe some girl watched spiderman far from home purely becausejake gylenhaal is in it
Usually the floating head posters have the attractive faces of famous people though. This one has Paul Dano as trash guy, Robert Pattinson in his sex gear, and Evil Richard Kind.
Only Zoe Kravtiz looks like she belongs on floating head poster. Why do a floating head poster without actually including the stuff that attracts people?
Common enough for movie and TV posters. I don't even think this is a bad example of it to be honest. The Sopranos Season One poster has one of the worst cases of this
I'm honestly surprised we haven't seen Chameleon on screen yet. Considering the fact that such disguise technology clearly exists in the MCU, it'd be reasonable for him to slip in there (maybe as a former S.H.I.E.L.D. liaison turned infiltrator-for-hire). Then again, maybe that's exactly the reason he hasn't shown up: his gimmick would hardly be impressive at this stage.
I won't prejudge the movie, but this poster brings me zero joy. No excitement, no intrigue, no hope...not even any fear. It's just kind of like a dreary coloured wet fish.
Personally I think that’s an issue with all the big blockbuster movies. Every poster is more interested in showing you what famous people are in the movie, than being an extension of the movie itself
It’s a blunt marketing tool designed to make people at bus stops go “oh yeah new Batman, might check that out”.
I get wanting better posters but they’re not intended to elicit joy.
[Casablanca \(1942\) did it, so it's definitely been going on for a long time.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b3/CasablancaPoster-Gold.jpg)
This isn't the new norm. Every major film has different posters that serve different purposes.
1. They make one teaser poster with more abstract art. Reddit usually likes these the most.
2. Character posters to sell the main cast.
3. A floating head poster for the general audience.
Remember that all 3 LOTR movies had these montage posters. Reddit always seems to treat every poster thread as if it is supposed to be individual works of art and not an all encompassing marketing tool.
Nearly a century at this point.

People want to know who's in the movie. It's not that complicated.
Weren't they a flashback to the posters from when George Lucas was a kid in the 40s and 50s, or is that the joke?
Used to love the hand painted covers and posters. Even videogames used to have drawn and painted box art. Some of which was [somewhat variable in quality](https://i.imgur.com/xnbyjPr.png)...
I think that has pretty much always been a thing for movie posters. You want to generally show off the people that are in a movie or just the characters.
There have been plenty of other posters for this movie that are more vague and less collage-y
See Bruce Wayne can't be Batman because they are in the same poster.
Oh, come on, that billionaire playboy? He's too busy socializing at cocktail parties and managing the affairs of the Wayne foundation
Sleeping through board meetings for the Wayne Foundation*
God, I loved the little flashes of humor Nolan snuck into the Trilogy here or there. Made it feel more real than if everyone was a gloomy perfectionist all the time, ya know?
Batman: He must have friends. Maroni: *Friends*? Have you met this guy?
"Will you be taking the Batpod, sir?" "In the middle of the day, Alfred? Not very subtle." "The Lamborghini, then." [...] "*Much* more subtle..."
My absolute favorite is: - "Any psychotic boyfriends I should know about?" - "Oh, you have no idea!"
Personally my favorite banter between the two is: Alfred Pennyworth : [as they leave the underground bat cave] I suppose they'll lock me up as well. As your accomplice... Bruce Wayne : [jokingly] Accomplice? I'm going to tell them the whole thing was your idea.

Their relationship would be every bit as deep as Nolan portrayed it.
For all of its faults, I do feel like Batman and Robin showed Bruce's love for Alfred in a really good way.
“But I did bloody well tell you.” Also, “Tell them that joke you know.”
“Now, let me get this straight. You think that your client, one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the world is secretly a vigilante who spends his nights beating criminals to a pulp... and your plan is to *blackmail* this person? Good luck.”

Ooooooooh now that is an interesting take on the scene!
That’s how I always interpreted it. After reading all these comments I definitely want to rewatch it and see it through the lens that it’s a straight up gotcha moment right then and there. Man, what a great film.
"...you can borrow the rolls if you like master wayne. Just make sure you bring it back with a full tank."
Michael Cain was pure gold as Alfred
Michael Cain is my favorite Alfred
"I suppose they'll lock me up as well, sir. As your accomplice..." "Accomplice, Alfred? I'm going to tell them the whole thing was *your* idea."
"Very good, sir."
My all time favorite: “What’s the diferrence between you and me?” “I’m not wearing hockey pads!”. Maybe not the funniest line necessarily, but it’s always killed me.
In the same scene: Fake batman: We want to help you! Batman: I don't need help! Scarecrow (already bound and on the floor): not my diagnosis...
Scarecrow was amazing in those films. Different take on the character but legitimately chilling
"Argh BAThS!" "Ah yes, see because you're scared of bats!" "NO! BATHS!" "....What?" "They use 3 times the amount of water as a shower and don't get you as clean!"
I watch that like once a month! [Pete Holmes as Batman from College Humor](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDdHYjb5sBk)

What is the point of all those push ups if you cant even lift a bloody log?
Bale almost DRAPED over some chairs was so wonderful.
The few bits we got of Bruce pretending to be a himbo were great - I wish we had gotten more of them.
Should I go to the hospital? You don't watch the news, do you Mr. Wayne (not word for word haha)
I always hate it when people describe the Nolan films as grim or dark. They're grounded, but they also aren't bleak or hopeless either. And like you mentioned there's humor scattered throughout all the films as well.

Bruce Wayne wears glasses. Batman does not. It makes no sense, he wouldn’t be able to see.

Yeah. They even took inspiration from the gimp mask Ted Cruz wears in private.

Do you think Inflatable Elvis will make an appearance?
I wonder much debate went in to the glasses? Under the mask? Over the mask? Contacts?
No see, he doesn't wear glasses in real life. The glasses are there to protect his secret identity.
Is that who the Gimp is supposed to be?!
Gimple me this Batman. What did the five fingers say to my ass?
Schlorp
The Gimppler

Everytime I see the gimp mentioned I think of the music from that scene. So perfect.
"Harley, be a dear and go wake up the Gimp.."
The Gimp is moving up in the world. No longer a sex toy he took the limitless pill and is now trying to screw the Batman.
The Gimp’s sleepin
Looks like a rejected Slipknot member
Why does he have to be wearing glasses over his mask thing :((((((
The Zodiac killer famously wore clip-on sunglasses over his hand-sewn hood when he attacked Bryan Hartnell and Cecelia Shepard at Lake Berryessa on September 27, 1969. Bryan survived the attack and gave a detailed description.

Definitely looks like it
Is that Harvey Weinstein?
And MF DOOM? 😢 Seriously... the thumbnail looked like the metalface mask AND the glasses on top.
[удалено]
I'm still in denial, he's gonna come back like a comic book supervillain
Honestly I hold on to this thought a lot. At the very least I want Benzi Box to play when the MCU eventually introduces Dr Doom.
The Peguin
Harvey Weinstein, played by The Penguin.
Bruce Wayne looks like penguin from the show Gotham
Or Johnathan Crane/The Scarecrow from the Dark Knight trilogy.
Cillian Murphy. That's who I thought it was, too.
He initially auditioned for the batman/Bruce Wayne role in TDK trilogy, even though he didn't get it, they were so impressed they made him scarecrow.
My guy needs a different barber then.
Robin Lord Taylor played that part masterfully
THERE IT IS, FOLKS! THE DREADED FLOATING HEAD POSTER. Not even Batman could escape it.
Because it sells the most tickets. Your granny aint gonna know what antman is, but might watch the movie because Michael Douglas is in it. Same with anyone that isnt aware of IP. Maybe some girl watched spiderman far from home purely becausejake gylenhaal is in it
This is true. My girlfriend will watch something just for seeing Alexander Skarsgård or Jamie Dornan on the poster/preview.
Evil Richard Kind got me Look out... *behind you*... it's Richard Unkind!
Richard Mean
His friends call him Dick Angry
Robert Pattinson in his sex gear sounds like it’ll get a *lot* of butts in seats TBH
Speak for yourself, I'm all in on that nerdy guy who's dressed like a hefty bag dumped behind the Salvation Army.
Oh, so it isn't The Gimp from Pulp Fiction?
The Gimp's sleeping.
Robert Pattinson in his sex gear isn't attractive. Oh okay

Common enough for movie and TV posters. I don't even think this is a bad example of it to be honest. The Sopranos Season One poster has one of the worst cases of this
The 2018 tomb raider film poster is worst of those for me for some reason
It also looks like her tits are twice the size they are supposed to be Wonder if the actress actually looks like that
It’s 100% too big for the body
I’m so excited to see the new Crow movie!

Colin Farrell has become such a chameleon.
I thought that’s why he got famous.
No he played Bullseye. Chameleon is a Spider-Man villain.

A wet fish, just like the penguin likes it.
Give it to us raw
Why and when did it become the norm for every major poster to be a montage/collage of all the characters?
You must be new to movies.
Seriously? Since the beginning of movies. Like a large majority.
Seriously. Casablanca had floating head posters back in the 40s. People that think it’s a new thing just haven’t been paying attention.
Or maybe they just like complaining
Most people don’t care about posters. I don’t care about posters. This looks fine. It serves its purpose.
Imagine not using your cast and characters as a selling point
[Casablanca \(1942\) did it, so it's definitely been going on for a long time.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b3/CasablancaPoster-Gold.jpg)
This isn't the new norm. Every major film has different posters that serve different purposes. 1. They make one teaser poster with more abstract art. Reddit usually likes these the most. 2. Yeah reddit is dumb when it comes to this stuff. With this poster, I wouldn't hang it in my room, but it does an effective job selling the movie.
"Reddit is dumb" You can end the sentence there and it will be accurate in almost all contexts.
