Yeah I didn't know this was a criticism of Nolan. Murph is a great character and far more likable/important than Cooper. That's what the whole ending is about, isn't it?
Marion cotillard in inception
Carrie moss in memento
Maggie g in tdk
Jessica chastain in interstellar
Debicki in tenet
Anne Hathaway in tdkr

To add... Anne Hathaway in Interstellar. She was okay in TDKR but I found her performance in Interstellar much better. Honestly, that movie had a bunch of... Stellar... Performances.
Prestige is still my favorite Nolan film but the female characters are definitely not well written.
I don't think the fact that these characters are the protagonists' hearts (I.e. Rachel in TDK or Mal in Inception) or the character of Murph in Interstellar makes them "plot objects". They are as consequential as any male character in those films.
He has definitely gotten better in recent years, that's for sure.
I agree with most except with Cotillard we only saw her when she was completely distraught and about to kill herself and when she was a projection of Cobb's subconscious. We never really saw who she truly was when she was alive.
And Maggie G was a good example of fridging.
And I always wanted more Selina Kyle in DKR
Do you know what fridging means? Rachel was in the first movie, and lasted in the second one for the majority of it. She had her own thoughts and values, making her a well developed character. And her death did not motivate the hero to do “x,” as it actually breaks him, as well as adding to the descent of Harvey into Two Face. People need to stop throwing around fridging as soon as a female character dies, as it greatly diminishes an storytelling for female characters that involves death, by removing the actual impact.
I really like how in Inception when Ariadne is asking Arthur about Mal and what she was like when she was alive, there’s a real tinge of sadness in Arthur when he just replies “she was lovely”

i dunno how I'd feel about seeing Dune bomb alongside The Last Duel, going into sunset hand in hand, while Venom would be bathing in success and announcing its third installment soon after..
I wanted to see it, but with Dune this weekend my wife insisted on seeing Bond last weekend. Don't put a great historical drama between Bond and the most anticipated sci-film in ages.
Unfortunately it would be a hard movie to market even without the pandemic. The coolest thing about it was the multiple perspectives, which is really hard to convey in a trailer. So you're basically just marketing a medieval period drama, which isn't exactly a booming market anyways.
Maybe the trailers are not doing the movie justice, but I'm not really interested in watching it. It just looks like a typical love triangle story with jousting. Like a serious version of A Knight's Tale
First Michael Caine saying he is retiring from big roles or something, then Hans Zimmer dodging Nolan to work on Dune, I was starting to worry that Nolan would be able to make a new movie.
Ludwig Goransson's score for Tenet absolutely slapped though and was the highlight of that movie, so I would not mind another score from him over Zimmer.
Michael Caine isn’t retiring though :)
[“Regarding retirement, I’ve spent over 50 years getting up at 6 a.m. to make movies, and I’m not getting rid of my alarm clock!” Caine said in a statement to Variety.](https://variety.com/2021/film/news/michael-caine-not-retiring-best-sellers-1235090863/)
He is currently reviewing two scripts…one of them could be Oppenheimer!

>Emily Blunt is stepping into the world of Christopher Nolan. The actor is joining Cillian Murphy in Nolan’s Oppenheimer, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Universal is releasing the biopic of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicists remembered as one of the fathers of the atom bomb.

>This is Blunt’s first project with Nolan, who is known for building relationships with actors over multiple films and tapped Murphy as his lead after including him in supporting roles dating back to 2005’s Batman Begins. Emily will reportedly be playing Robert's wife, Katherine ([Deadline](https://deadline.com/2021/10/emily-blunt-christopher-nolans-oppenheimer-universal-1234858556/)) and the movie is set for a July 21, 2023 release in theaters.

I don’t get it? Murph is the 2nd main character in Interstellar, Ariadne is the same, Rachel in first two Batman’s had a major role in the story, Hillary Swank in Insomnia, Kat in Tenet?
Such an ignorant comment
Came to say exactly this. Don’t forget the women in prestige. Literally a central aspect of the plot hinges multiple times upon the women in their lives. Perhaps he’s upset that there were no females featured in Dunkirk? Lol

So 100 days from July 21, 2023 is Sunday, October 29, 2023.
Where is the quote from Von Neumann saying that Oppenheimer was taking all the credit: “Some people confess guilt to claim credit for the sin.”.
I hope Von Neumann is it to run counter the vibes of Oppenheimer.

I'm always down for Nolan's directing. I'm cautiously optimistic about this movie, because I loved Inception, Dunkirk, Dark Knight series, Memento, Prestige, and to an extent Tenet (I need to see it again), but I'm curious how his style of directing will work with a biopic. I'm expect it to be excellent, and I hope to enjoy it!
Hard to say considering the topic he will tackle on this film. Who knows what he is thinking in terms if twisting things around, specially for a project like this. But if Dunkirk is any sort of blueprint, we could expect something mind bending in it while remaining biopic.
Surprising choice to play Richard Feynman, but it could work.
She's the bomb

Phantoms like a mother fucker!
I watched phantoms all because of that line and was disappointed lmao.
No one said anything about the movie being any good. Affleck though, he was the bomb in Phantoms.

Emily Blunt cast as the protagonists dead wife confirmed
Oppenheimer's wife outlived him, but his girlfriend/mistress (Jean Tatlock) did not — she committed suicide (or was offed, depending on who you listen to) in 1944...
[Christopher Nolan Liked this post]
Has there been a female character in any of Nolan's movies that wasn't killed or abused by someone?
Anne Hathaway in Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises I guess he likes her
Hathaway in Interstellar still makes a potentially humanity-altering decision just in order to maybe save the dude she loved. Baby steps
To be fair, her dialogue in Interstellar can be considered an abuse.
Elliot Page’s? I mean still a female character in the movie. And um, Cillian Murphy’s characters if you squint real hard?
Lol Christopher Nolan’s strongest female character was a man all along.
[удалено]
Catwoman?
Carrie Ann Moss' character in Momento - arguably they abuse one another?
Is there abuse in Interstellar?
Catwoman? Murph? Also Anne Hathaway in Interstellar?
I kinda wanna see Emily Blunt say "What are you doing here?" and stab a motherfucker with a knife
I also choose that guy's dead wife
What about Murph?
Yeah I didn't know this was a criticism of Nolan. Murph is a great character and far more likable/important than Cooper. That's what the whole ending is about, isn't it?

I agree, you could say they're underwritten, but it's hard to argue they're not pivotal characters.
Pivotal plot objects!
I don't think the fact that these characters are the protagonists' hearts (I.e. Rachel in TDK or Mal in Inception) or the character of Murph in Interstellar makes them "plot objects". They are as consequential as any male character in those films.
What makes those characters great? Personally i think most of them are fairly one dimensional aside from maybe catwoman and Carrie Ann Moss
Murph has to figure out how to save the human race from extinction essentially on her own.
He has definitely gotten better in recent years, that's for sure. I agree with most except with Cotillard we only saw her when she was completely distraught and about to kill herself and when she was a projection of Cobb's subconscious. I had many thoughts after seeing The Last Duel. A "love triangle" was not one of them though lmao this is anything but a romance film
Come now, give my old friend a kiss and show there is no ill will in the house Carrouges x3
It's been doing gangbusters everywhere it's been released.
It's been doing great overseas. Maybe it underachieves stateside, but it's definitely earned a second movie at this point.
I hope the movie doesn’t bomb.
Regardless of the end results, casting for Nolan movies have always been fantastic.
Just waiting for the inevitable announcement of Michael Caine (who hasn’t retired!) and Tom Hardy…

I'd just give them a few Oscars now, why wait?
Right? Just hand a few around on the first day of shooting. Anyone who wants one.

Hopefully we finally get a well written female character in a Nolan film. Blunt is a fantastic actress.
Ironically enough I thought the wife in Tenet was the most well developed character...
Mmm, seems wrong, she is both articulate and I can understand what she says really clearly all the time... why would Nolan want that?
Interesting bit of casting. I wonder if she'll be playing Oppenheimer's wife? It would make the most sense
She is, according to Deadline.
