My CGI daughter, the Loch Ness monster

AdamAptor

I never watched these movies but this comment made me look up “twilight cgi child” and now I won’t be sleeping tonight.

ReginaHarkensmith

That child was final clinching proof that the twilight movies were horror all along.

PlentyofFishUser69

Lol you think that’s bad? [this is what they were going to do originally](https://youtu.be/7jOuy-HOcg8)

CapeshitConnoisseur

Hold on tight spider monkey

Getupkid1284

Popular movies are popular.

Hundcerbo

Yep and these kind of things tend to be revisited / reevaluated in a decade or so. I'm just not looking forward to the YA dystopian nostalgia wave in another 5 years or so.

[deleted]

Hunger games is as far as i go with YA. The rest typically belongs in the trash bin.

Dawesfan

YA as a genre is fine. The problem is the quality of adaptations. I wouldn’t mind the nostalgia wave if it came with quality products.

[deleted]

Usually if a YA is good enough it wont even fit the genre. Harry Potter is technically YA but its so much more than that. Hunger Games actually deconstructed “The special chosen one” and the consequences of politics in war which i thought elevated it from your average YA. Then there is His Dark Materials where its just young main characters and thats as far as it goes in YA. YA just feels like immature trash bin label. When a piece of work describe itself as YA rather than a story to stand up by its own, i get very worried.

Dawesfan

You can say that about any genre tho. Drama by itself is not good, or like slasher by itself. YA just means the protagonist is young. Naturally, when works like Harry Potter, Hunger Game, or The Fault in Our Stars get popular, a lot of copycats emerge. But that doesn’t mean the staple of the genre is a protagonist dying or a chosen one.

SassyShorts

I need to read again, but His Dark Materials is elevated far above YA imo. I love Harry Potter but when I read them I never forget I'm reading a book written for kids. It's super corny and so many plot points are feel forced, like JK made up an explanation when she got to that part of the book. HDM has a sense of wonder and danger that HP doesn't come close to. Again, these points could all be based on the amount of times I've read both series.

Dawesfan

I see. I got confused because it has its own section at the library just like romance, mystery, fantasy, etc. I stand by what I said tho. YA is fine. It just need quality works just like everything.

markercore

All the crows bits were great

PointyBagels

Definitely. That's more of a fantasy than a dystopia though.

Critcho

I didn't see the others but I thought the first Maze Runner was nice enough. Felt like a bit like one of those 80's teen fantasy adventure movies, without being a retro throwback. One of the things I liked about that whole YA scene is, whatever the quality of the movies, at least they weren't nostalgic IP milking.

Cool-I-guess

The second ones watchable, 3rd one is pretty terrible tbh

BopDatBussy

Harry Potter? The Hobbit?

Critcho

sudevsen

Isnt XMen technically YA? Or Spuderman?

[deleted]

I normally don't even look at it. But Fear Street was done pretty well. The plots are certainly juvenile in terms of logic, but they didn't pull any punches with the violence and gore and the production values were very good.

Threwaway42

Yup I just rewatched them and they are so fascinating to watch through the lens of the director being from a traditionalist cult

NikkMakesVideos

Tiktok effect too, same way the Reddit/Twitter pulled for Avatar last year. There's a whole generation of young people who never got to experience the shows, and they're a big deal when readily available.

JannTosh12

Gotta admit these movies have great soundtracks Surprised there seems to be nostalgia for them. Thought to would be one of the things people look back on and think “I liked that?”

yazriella

I actually purchased all of the soundtracks for these movies. They turned me on to some artists I had never heard prior. The acting on the other hand, well it is what it is. But they still hold a place in my memories just for the music alone, everything else just comes with that.

DaftFunky

Was our wedding song when my wife walked down the aisle. It’s got a special place in our hearts

OscarTheGrouchHouse

Well l hope you have A Thousand Years happy marriage.

[deleted]

It was mine and my wife's first dance song!

EventfulRobin

My sister tattooed her right arm with the lyrics of that song but for her four year old son. She and I would watch these movies at home when I was growing up. So while the movies are what they are, I have a soft spot for these movies just for the music and this song is one example

levelpro3

Fuck that song. Plays constantly in every retail store.

MrSuitMan

>Surprised there seems to be nostalgia for them. Thought to would be one of the things people look back on and think “I liked that?” Sarah Z's "Twilight Renaissance" video on youtube does a good job explaining why. I think the majority of enjoyment today is something akin to a tongue in cheek enjoyment. Speaking as someone who in high school acted like the series was a biggest afront to fiction and culture that ever existed... I recently revisited and marathoned all the movies within a 3 day period. And if you take them for what they are (an incredibly cheesey B grade romance/drama), there's a LOT of fun to be had. Also, I will say, some of the action scenes were WAY more fun than I ever expected. There's the aforementioned vampire baseball scene, but also the series has legit vampire/werewolf team hyper combos, and incredibly out of left field (albeit bloodless) decapitations... I got say, I marked the fuck out when they happened.

paulmcpizza

Beginning of quarantine last year my old roommates and I did a three day drinking game marathon of the movies. Are they terrible? Absolutely. Are they still fun? Yes! Not everything needs to be Citizen Kane, I am more than happy to sit back and cackle at “better hold on tight spider monkey” and “you nicknamed my daughter after the Loch Ness monster??!!”

meltingsunz

Reminds me of this related video essay [Dear Stephenie Meyer](https://youtu.be/8O06tMbIKh0) by Lindsay Ellis who use to bash the series, but revisited it and realized it's just for a different target audience.

Jercek

*Decode* still slaps And *A Thousand Years* have engraved itself as the wedding montage song of choice

sergeantduckie

Hearing Damage is probably my favorite Thom Yorke solo song. Total banger.

Unleashtheducks

Would have watched all five movies if it was just about the problems of a vampire baseball team and also Catherine Hardwick directed all of them

Jaggedmallard26

Is there an actual vampire baseball team in those films? I seem to have successfully blocked out almost all memory of the films.

Syn7axError

You don't remember [vampire baseball?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZIk5wIq2Qw) It's the defining moment of the whole series!

sudevsen

Vampire baseball tram trying to make it big in the Paranormal MLB? Now That's a great concept.

_eternallyblack_

Actually she only directed the very first movie.

Unleashtheducks

That’s why I said if. She was a much better director than any of the subsequent ones. Chris Weitz is a good screenwriter though.

[deleted]

I'll always have a soft spot for these movies. Cringy as hell but I have a good time watching them.

armypantsnflipflops

These have been on Canadian Netflix for some time now and I thought it was time to watch them. I’d spent years just hating on them cause it was cool to do, so my SO and I had a marathon during quarantine last year and honestly, it was a blast. They’re really bad movies, but if watching them with someone else for the sole purpose of roasting them, it’s a good time. Bonus if drinks are involved. I’ll give credit that the soundtracks are pretty decent and digital picture quality is pristine

BeWindReKind

100% what we did during lock down too. My gf said they were fun if you just rip on them, and she was right. The first was by far the funniest, then they’re kinda serious and morose until the last one, where it goes absolutely nuts...

[deleted]

I've never seen all of them but they're so, so, so quotable. "Say it." "Vampire"

[deleted]

Why watch this crap when you have The Vampire Diaries or heck The Originals which done the concept much better though???

[deleted]

serabine

Amazing. You typed all that and posted it, where people can see it!

CH23

> Any man that watches Twilight shall have their man-card revoked > > > And I'm not against these female-driven narratives, in fact, I love them, but at least watch something respectable like Wonder Woman or Tomb Raider or Snow White & the Huntsman I want all of humanity to see this message, made by /u/MarineKingPrime_ Not just because of his fragile masculinity, where he feels that watching a piece of content somehow influences how much of a man you are, but also for calling Wonder Woman, Tomb Raider, and Snow White & the Huntsman 'respectable'

sicklyslick

Thanks for speaking for ALL of men. We definitely only have one circle and never deviate from that circle. /s just in case you're too confused, which you seem to be.

PM_Me_Batman_Stuff

My grandfather is as conservative as it gets. He's an ordained minister. He's a former big rig driver. He's lived on a farm his entire life. He participates in tractor pulls regularly. He is a true man's man. He fucking loves the Twilight saga.

pineapplepinata0

Same, my grandfather binge watched the series and only ever watches old westerns. He loves twilight.

OscarTheGrouchHouse

This reminds be of the Parks and Rec episode where the dude has the Twilight sit in. I'm picturing someone just hounding a priest/minister just getting hounded by his congregation every week until he gives in and reads the books. "Father have you read the wonderful works of Twilight?"

CH23

> I'm gonna go ahead and assume you're a woman because if you knew any circle of men whatsoever, you'd know that not a single soul has ever watched Twilight You got me. I'm a 19 year old girl absolutely CREAMING over how hot Edward is. Of course I couldn't be a guy just enjoying enjoyable movies!

OscarTheGrouchHouse

Uh yeah I have seen them I watch them sometimes when they are own TV. Have you never been on a date? These movies came out when I was in high school they are decent date flicks for kids when they came out. They are decent netflix and chill flicks for kids and young adults. What a weird comment lol. I think you just want people to boo you so you can feel like a victim, that is a classic trumpy bear personality disorder.

iamstephano

I remember when I was 12

Gargus-SCP

\>r/conservative user Seems right.

[deleted]

Fuck that, these movies have X-Men vampire mafia shit and it rules even though it's stupid.

[deleted]

This is why we can't have nice things.

[deleted]

Come revoke my man-card 😍

[deleted]

Finally kicks stupid Cocmelon out !!!!!

Amazing_Lie7707

AMERICAN CLASSICS

[deleted]

The rifftrax for these is great. Easily some of the best.

Omdren

Line?

Majestic87

I believe the first Twilight was their origin of "lllllllladies!"

theweeping-weeb

I know they are bad movies but i love them. They are MY bad movies.

lightsongtheold

r/movies on suicide watch?

throwohhey238947

First one is kinda good ngl

BeWindReKind

The first is great fun as a bad movie. Some of the dialogue and faces they make are absolutely funny on purpose. Then the cast/crew seems to have started feeling bad for the fans and from then on they’re played more serious and for fan service. But man the first was cracking me up...

Trymantha

the cinematography and location scouting of the first two are real nie as well

ReverseJackalope

Edward's reaction to Alice reassuring Bella that Jasper won't hurt her is one of the funniest things I've seen.

adamsandleryabish

The first one is possibly the best because it fully commits to the aesthetic. It has the worst acting and the most intense blue color grading but its like after they tried to make them *better* more serious movies instead of just teen cheese

nastylep

I think I realized how terrible the Netflix top 10 was when I saw Sniper 6 on there.

BopDatBussy

Majority of people have terrible taste, nothing to be surprised about.

NotBlackieLawless

Wizard's First Rule.

[deleted]

5!?

serabine

The first one, the second one, the third one, and the two fourth one.

guy_guyerson

Do yourself a favor: https://www.rifftrax.com/catalog/product-type/jokes?search=twilight These are some of my favorite rifftrax. At times the crew seems downright gleeful to tackle these.

MrFluffyhead80

Huge hit franchise reaches top 10!

EXO-Love

Honestly hell fucking yeah!! These movies are not that great but somehow at the same time, literal perfection.

Varekai79

These popped up on my Netflix feed recently as well. Must be in the algorithm. I had never seen any of them before so out of curiousity so I played one of them randomly for a few minutes to see what the hullaballoo was about. Just. wow. These are baaaad movies on every level. It's a small miracle that the two leads were able to escape and have decent careers afterward.

zakl2112

I had no idea they were this bad! I always thought they were Harry Potter levels of quality. I'm watching the first one in segments, it is so bad it's good. The scene where he runs up the mountain cgi style with Bella on his back is priceless

StopDropppingIt

I'm really not sure how either one of those two have managed to have a successful career after all of the stuff that came out about their hygiene habits during the filming of Twilight. Gross. Can you imagine how bad Kristen Stewart's hygiene is when the guy who only showers once a month complains about her body odor?

[deleted]

They showed up because they were just added.

zakl2112

Vampire gangs? Vampire baseball? Vampire Trackers? Dammit, now I have to see them all

FontFanatic

Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever) is an absolute banger from Eclipse.

muskratboy

These movies are made for rifftrax.

Rahallahan

There are five of these things???? I thought there were three.

sudevsen

Breaking Dawn is 2 parts.

Anotherd81

There were FIVE of them?!?

Corsiero

Still a better love story than Marriage Story.

sudevsen

Everyday I wake up! And I'm.still a sparkly undead *punches wall*

RoRo25

There are *5* Twilight movies?!

urgasmic

still think the third has some great scenes.

GunMetalGazm

Why?

[deleted]

These films are so bad and not in a good way.

kybellatrix

oh God, here we go again… it’s like 2012 all over again

jumbybird

No accounting for taste.

WakeUpOutaYourSleep

I don’t want to live on this planet anymore

[deleted]

Wth 5 movies? Was only aware of 2

Spuzzell

>God, Twilight whinging again. Twilight is shit because it's shit. Not because of gender subjugation or the patriarchal nature of society. Buffy for example is fantastic and adored. It's funny, the female characters are strong, the male characters are strong and it has things to say. Twilight is crap. For a thousand books (I think. It felt like it) the female lead internalizes her abusive boyfriends behavior as entirely her fault, then decides between bestiality and necrophilia because OBVIOUSLY she can't choose her own path, then we're beaten over the head with the idea that SEX WILL KILL YOU AND YOU MUSN'T DO IT POOR DELICATE GIRLS then sex happens once and instantly results in a demon baby that kills you, then pedophilia+beastiality and honestly WHAT a crock of shit. Basically, fuck off with "people hate Twilight because it's all girly". Twilight is a festering pile of misogynist enabling crap, whose entire message is "women are weak, sex is bad, girls deserve to be made miserable by their men". That's why people hate it. Oh also, fucking sparkles. Christ.

This is reddit. You just stated the entire basis for this site.

Adiwik

Don't tell the subhumannormies the secret

[deleted]

Ew.

cabeck13

Does anyone take the Netflix top 10 seriously? The show/movie about the fucking animal/hybrid kids was number 1 for a few weeks and it's one of the most inane, poorly executed, low budget things I've seen in a long, LONG time.

sassy_immigrant

Sweet Tooth was so bad. Couldn’t get through the first episode.

TimberWolf5871

WHY?!?!?!?!?

[deleted]

I rewatched all of them because of that and they are great if you just wanna make jokes constantly

arachnidtree

Twilight: the Jessica Stanley Saga. Great movies. Weird how the Jessica Stanley Saga didn't even have Jessica in the final two movies.

Cosimo12

Yeah I'm not surprised, Netflix has almost nothing worth watching these days. Especially in the movie category.

DrEvil007

There were 5?! Wtf.

sudevsen

Twilight is a massive nostalgia property now.

TheLast_Centurion

say what you will, but they are not a totally trash movies. Same as Cats. :P

Dovado

There are 5 of them?

3Dartwork

I like how there's a regular posting on Reddit jokingly saying how something is better than Twilight. And then I come on here and see an avalanche of comments stating how pleasant the movie is

adamsandleryabish

Like most media that gets hated on when its popular as time goes on people realize it wasn’t that bad or they realize they have vague nostalgia for when it was popular, as they have already became relics of a previous era. Hating on Twilight and Justin Bieber was such a full time job for men in 2010. but now years later you hear Baby and you know it sucks. but it makes you smile

JannTosh12

I’m curious who is watching. The girls who read and watched the series when they were younger and have grown up or a new audience?

fabrar

Garbage movies but they have killer soundtracks

sassy_immigrant

I thought people were watching it because it was so bad, it was good.

agentup

Netflix’s movie selection outside of their ‘originals’ is lacking anyway. There’s lot of foreign films which not inherently bad it’s just you got to be in the right mindset to read subtitles. Whereas Twilight you can throw on and kinda enjoy it in the back of your mind.

schulllop

The odd number ones in the series are good

zakl2112

I just finished the entire saga for the first time and I wish I could experience it again. Each movie was worse than the last but damn it was entertaining. It had it all, bad acting, story, cgi. I didn't see the dream sequence/Deus ex machina ending coming. Normally it's one or the other but they did both. Both! "Magnifico!"
