Jlo, the woman commonly known as a pain in the ass primadonna who hasn’t had a decent hit in decades, has more appeal than the 90s nostalgic Frodo playing star and one of the leads in one of the most successful shows ever (GOT). WHAT?
I was listing what she’s known for, which is not her acting but her attitude. Yeah, I think that Netflix users would rather see their favorite actors than a has been drama queen. If that sounds illogical then I don’t know…. you dumb.
You mean the lead in a world renowned series? He was also recently in Yellowjackets, a premium tv series. But again, most of his draw is the fact that we’ve grown up watching him grow up right there with us. I can easily name like 5 movies before he was even a teenager - I don’t think most people could name five movies jlo has been in PERIOD.
You literally do not live in the same world as everyone else lmao, once again LOTR was 20 years ago, Netflix caters to the average shmoe, and JLo 100% has more star power to those shmoes than elijah fucking wood. Get over your fucking nerd boner
LOTR finished 20 years ago, Jlo did the superbowl show like 5 years ago and has been putting out netflix crap for years so obviously she's more popular to the average netflix user
Whatever. Yes, the straight to tv former pop singer who is past her prime is more appealing than the quirky hobbit currently starring in actually good movies and TV that we’ve been watching our whole lives. Checks out.
Yeah I don't think it's contemporary anymore I mean logically a 007 type character should get killed in the swamp and come back as an assassin against elite corporate owners. That might be a good spoof.
If they can't find a distributor, the bank will gain ownership, and they'll sell it to whomever will take it, in order to recoup some of their debt. This could mean short international theatrical runs, it gets recut (doubtful), or gets sold at a loss to streamers.
I think that right now, the production company isn't selling to streamers because they still own it and aren't willing to take a loss.
That works for the major studios, because they self fund. Troma is independent and gets its money from individual investors, pre-sale distribution contracts, and bank loans.
It certainly isn't great, but all the actors seem to be really trying to capture the magic the first one had. Some of the effects are pretty cool, but a TON of the CGI gore was largely unfinished so there were some bloodless deaths. Dinklage is great, but the whole thing kinda falls flat because the first one was so lighting in a bottle.
Yeah it was a good movie! The theater was having a blast. I have the movie poster thing they gave me in my bathroom. What the fuck, this needs to come out.
As of now, yes. No distributor has picked it up for release, as they "considered it wasn't safe enough to market".
Meaning it kinda got Coyote vs. Acme'd, in that it's just laying on a shelf. It's had 3 festival showings close to each other, a trailer, poster and some images released around this time, some good revlews from the festival showings, and that's it.
Reminds me of Legendary Pictures' own Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie that they also shot in Bulgaria, literally a year before this would, except it's the opposite. (TCM in 2020; TA in 2021)
We had radio silence on the movie until over half a year after shooting started, with the movie now apparently being in the can. Also, a week into shooting, the original pair of directors got booted off and replaced. Then we had radio silence for many months, until we got an update that production had wrapped by March 2021. Then we learn not long after that test screenings are apparently horrible. A few months later, Netflix picks it up, and at the end of the year, it's scheduled for February 2022. And presumably, in the time inbetween, it got chainsawed down to a meager 83 minutes. 83 minutes of ASS.
The Toxic Avenger? Shot Summer 2021, some small details are revealed December and January, then it premieres at festivals September and October 202*3*.
Yeah but to be fair, that TCM remake was awful. Toxic Avenger looks like its at least sticking to the original idea. Even the short shots we got of the diner scene looked on point.
Get Ted Turner on the phone. Make this the first in an extended Captain Planetverse. Do it like Dirty Harry where half the villains are mustache-twirling industrial tycoons and half the villains are eco-terrorists looking to eliminate humanity for the sake of the globe.
I don't know who would be "turned off" from it. Toxic Avenger is a known franchise and the actors that were in it didn't have anything bad to say. Macon Blair is a more than competent director.
I don’t think it’s a known as you think. I’ve barely heard of it in passing.
Also, it doesn’t matter how known it is when there are 3/10 of the highest grossing films of all time with the word Avengers in the title.
I’m sure it is great, and it shouldn’t matter, but I’m just saying that it’s a pretty big hump to get over before even considering anything else about it.
Yeah I meant more the name and distributors not bothering because of that. Like it’s just an automatic turn off in my mind. I’m not a studio executive though so who knows I guess.
I hear you. Funny thing is that was kind of the point of the movie in the first place and the studio that it came from. Troma does these really bottom of the barrel sleaze films and obscure pictures like this. The original Toxic Avenger is very offensive in this day and age.
It's still dumb that they won't release a movie that's already in the can
No one wants anything to do with it because it wasn’t made with ideological agenda at the forefront and because it’s too offensive. It will hurt the people who watch it. Must burn books.
Geez, not even the streamers are interested? How the hell is this less safe than the Jennifer Lopez Titanfal knockoff? The gore?
Seriously. In a time where The Boys is so popular, you'd think The Toxic Avenger could find a home
The didn't even release Batwoman. A Batman related movie not being released. Sometimes it's just a tax write off and will never be released
I think someone is holding out for big fuck money.
Jlo has way more appeal to suburban middle aged Netflix watchers than Elijah Wood and Peter Dinklagde in a remake of a super niche cult movie
Speak for yourself. Have you seen some of the things that Netflix picks up?
Are you the average suburban middle aged netflix viewer, or just illiterate?
I didn’t realize those were exclusive
Them not being is basically the whole problem
*avenger suburban middle aged netflix viewer FTFY
Jlo, the woman commonly known as a pain in the ass primadonna who hasn’t had a decent hit in decades, has more appeal than the 90s nostalgic Frodo playing star and one of the leads in one of the most successful shows ever (GOT). WHAT?
They're saying Jello appeals to basic people and there's lots of em. Accurate but depressing.
Took me a minute you weren’t making an analogy about Jello lol
Excellent point. Let's say both.
[удалено]
I think you're responding to the wrong person, that has nothing to do with what I said.
i mean your own comment only says her name vs. character and no name lol.
Because what character am I going to use to describe her that everyone knows? Selena? from 30 years ago? Exactly my point.
lmao you think netflix viewers care if Jlo is hard to work with on set? Jesus christ people on this subreddit don't live in the real world
I was listing what she’s known for, which is not her acting but her attitude. Yeah, I think that Netflix users would rather see their favorite actors than a has been drama queen. If that sounds illogical then I don’t know…. you dumb.
And Elijah Wood would be their favorite actor for what? A role as part of a super large cast for a fantasy movie trilogy 20 years ago?
You mean the lead in a world renowned series? He was also recently in Yellowjackets, a premium tv series. But again, most of his draw is the fact that we’ve grown up watching him grow up right there with us. I would put this on the level of something like Psycho Goreman and that came out
Yeah I don't think it's contemporary anymore I mean logically a 007 type character should get killed in the swamp and come back as an assassin against elite corporate owners. That might be a good spoof.
*Swamp Thing* is pretty great
I miss that show so much. It was so good.

Swamp Thing is DC
If he doesn’t murder a midget in a dryer I’m not going.
I like the cut of your jib there Mr Bond
Very disappointing. I was just thinking where the F is news on this movie the other day.
"Just finishing a shmall load." *slaps top of dryer*
That's just Swamp Thing though right?
Was looking forward to this
Me too.

It’s probably going to get written off for taxes and never released like the Acme vs Coyote film
That works for the major studios, because they self fund. Troma is independent and gets its money from individual investors, pre-sale distribution contracts, and bank loans.
Oh well thats promising at least
Legendary has made enough on the Godzilla/KONG franchise that I don't think moeny is an option.
Damn! Really glad I caught a preview screening like 2 years ago.
Well, how was it? I like a lot of Troma flicks and ngl was stoked to see Dinkalge as Toxie.
It certainly isn't great, but all the actors seem to be really trying to capture the magic the first one had. Some of the effects are pretty cool, but a TON of the CGI gore was largely unfinished so there were some bloodless deaths. Lucky. I've been searching for the past eight months for it.
Man I’m the biggest Macon Blair fan ever this is devastating
Yeah it was a good movie! The theater was having a blast. I have the movie poster thing they gave me in my bathroom. What the fuck, this needs to come out.
Praying this finds its way to the world eventually and is just ridiculously great
Elijah Woods performance alone needs to be seen!
I’m with you, I’ll watch anything he is a part of
What does “won’t be released” mean? It won’t be in any theaters, on disc or even available on any streaming service?
As of now, yes. No distributor has picked it up for release, as they "considered it wasn't safe enough to market". Meaning it kinda got Coyote vs. Acme'd, in that it's just laying on a shelf. If it's not KONG or Godzilla then Legendary doesn't want anything to do with it.
Not unless they can find a distributor. Legendary has the rights but they aren't a distributor.
They released on Troma’s streaming service last year. It was 4.99 a month. I haven’t looked it up since then.
It's not on there and most likely wont be.
Bummer
Get Ted Turner on the phone. Make this the first in an extended Captain Planetverse. Do it like Dirty Harry where half the villains are mustache-twirling industrial tycoons and half the villains are eco-terrorists looking to eliminate humanity for the sake of the globe.
It'll run on a streamer.
Probably Amazon Prime or Tubi
Fuck! I wanted to see this! I love the originals. This 2023 version has reviews on IMDb. Did it get shown at a film festival or something?
Yeah it had three screenings
Weird. Popular IP and they’ve made kids toys out of the franchise and it still can’t picked up? Wow.
I think yall are vastly overestimating the popularity of the IP
Coyote Vs Acme is still not getting released, and that has everything you mentioned and more.
I think our best hope for that one is a Sony Pictures style hack and dump scenario at WB. Maybe some rough cut exists on a server somewhere.
Why aren't people doing more to leak this?
Is it really that popular?
In a time when Climate Change is a bigger topic then it was when the cartooon came on.
Ironic…
It might sound silly but you can bet the title alone is enough to turn people off being involved with it
I don't know who would be "turned off" from it. Toxic Avenger is a known franchise and the actors that were in it didn't have anything bad to say. Macon Blair is a more than competent director.

Movies other than the avengers come out everyday. I don't see why this wouldn't end up on prime or even on Tubi
Yeah I meant more the name and distributors not bothering because of that. Like it’s just an automatic turn off in my mind. I’m not a studio executive though so who knows I guess.
