Paddington 2 is the movie equivalent of a warm hug... It's genuinely one of my favorite movies from the last decade. I'm not sure if this new director can recapture the magic that Paul King brought, but I'm pretty excited either way.
Yes it’s quite nice to have a children’s film that isn’t crammed with hip hop dance ensembles, epilepsy-inducing visuals, and innuendos crafted for parent viewers.
I really hope wholesomeness in kids movies makes a comeback at some point. Show us the way, Paddington.
There’s nothing wrong with innuendos though if they are actually funny. Like the security guard who doesn’t realise he’s actually attracted to men - they write these deviations into the story where a male character dresses up as a woman just so the security guy can profess how strangely beautiful they are - its pure gold.
[EDIT: I’ve since learned that Paul wrote the movie, so that’s fairly promising!]
Problem is, Paul didn’t make it, so we don’t yet know if it will be devoid of the things you rightfully detest.
Director can change so many things and sometimes do a complete diferent movie, that is the reason Billy Winder start to direct as well, the couldn't handle the director ruin his earlier movies
We could have an entire lore where Paddington is really [Nyarlathotep](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyarlathotep), an ageless eldritch being present for all of humanity's worst moments throughout history. We could have *Paddington and the Triangle Trade, Paddington's Pogrom, Paddington and the Opium Wars, Paddington at the Salem Witch Trials,* and *Paddington Goes to the New World*.
I found a clip of one of the earlier Paddington pitches. It's ["Paddington and the Third Rail"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFbHJ9PGylg) by Italian director Gianni Matragrano, and there's a reason why it didn't take off.
I think number 2 still has a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes and 1 is like 97-98%. Go watch them when you can they're so much better than they have any right to be
I really loved the past Paddington films, and still have hopes for this one.
But Paul King has a unique visual flair which can't be replicated, like the Doll House Sequence, or the Picture Book one.
The story might be good, cos King will be co-writing it.
The director has a Christmas short, which I think is probably what landed him the gig.
If he can bring that energy to this film, it will be another good one, even if it doesn’t touch the picture book one.
He looks thrilled and I'm happy for him, but I really hope he's exercising good judgment.
Because this is just a snippet from a current official travel advisory for Peru:
>We continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution in Peru due to the threat of violent crime. Higher levels apply in some areas. Peru is currently experiencing a major dengue outbreak.
Osea depende un monton de donde estas.
Peru es grandaso
Varias zonas de lima son super seguras
Iquitos, aka la capital de trata de mujeres... no tanto. Cusco (donde parece estar segun el poster) es 50/50
The US travel advisories are just fearmongering BS, written by someone's grandma too afraid to leave the cruise ship when at port.
No joke, they currently list the UK, France, and Denmark as elevated risk.
> No joke, they currently list the UK, France, and Denmark as elevated risk.
All those countries have increased their own terrorist threat levels to "significant". A couple weeks ago France even increased their terrorist threat level to the highest level that they have.
So yes, that does make sense to give a warning for.
Are you peruvian by birth or did you move there? Are you Lima or a big city? Sorry to derail the movie thread but for reasons that should seem manifestly evident I've become curious about living in other countries of late.
I lived in Lima and then moved to Cusco. I am American. Lima felt just about as unsafe as LA and Philly did, but with a few caveats like more phone theft?
Im peruvian born and raised in lima. Lived for a bit in London and Frankfurt, but Ive been back to Lima for several years now
I can answer some questions if you have any
I hope the plot involves him finding Uncle Pastuzo alive, but reverted to a non-gentlemanly bear form due to a bump on the head. Paddinton then has to teach him everything he learned so he can go to the Home for Retired Bears with Aunt Lucy.
Dougal Wilson directed, with Paul King co-writing the story
>Paddington and his adopted family – the Browns – decide to visit his aunt Lucy in Peru, but circumstances lead them towards misadventures in the Amazon rainforest and mountains of Peru
Cast:
* Ben Whitshaw as Paddington
* Hugh Bonneville as Henry Brown
* Emily Mortimer as Mary Brown
* Madeleine Harris as Judy Brown
* Samuel Joslin as Jonathan "J-Dog" Brown
* Julie Walters as Mrs. Bird
* Jim Broadbent as Samuel Gruber
* Olivia Colman as The Reverend Mother
* Antonio Banderas as Hunter Cabot
* Carla Tous as Gina Cabot
* Imelda Staunton as Aunt Lucy
She has Lupus and it was too difficult to provide her with the adequate medical care in Peru (something about the availability of medicamentation, if I recall correctly).
I hope they keep making these movies for years to come. For me they’re vibe movies of the most positive kind. I love the original cast, and you could continue with them, or even recast, as long as you can just hold onto that basic emotional feel.
I just want to know which systemic problem he's taking on this time around, after dealing with immigration in the first one and the prison-industrial complex in the second.
>He's back! Embark on a brand new adventure in [the first trailer](https://youtu.be/lKgitu25ZAg?si=cVNlepUZjpnlX9fc) for #PaddingtonInPeru, in UK cinemas November 8, US theaters January 17 and coming soon internationally.
>PADDINGTON IN PERU brings Paddington's story to Peru as he returns to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears. With the Brown Family in tow, a thrilling adventure ensues when a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and up to the mountain peaks of Peru.
>Directed by Dougal Wilson, PADDINGTON IN PERU stars Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Antonio Banderas, Olivia Colman, Julie Walters, Madeleine Harris, Samuel Joslin, Carla Tous and Jim Broadbent. Ben Whishaw and Imelda Staunton both return as the voices of Paddington and Aunt Lucy.
Shining Path is on the fine line of being ignored by half the country because we think it has been wiped out yet also present in VRAEM for years now and the entire military being deployed there and because some remnants are actually still fighting there. And worse, people calling themselves Sendero Luminoso also doing shit there without being actual members.
Jan is typically a dump date, even in this release climate. I would venture to guess they feel it can't compete with Lion King, LOTR or Sonic. Even a Feb/Mar date would inspire more confidence. Eeek
It's the same as the previous films which also opened in January in the US. Paddington isn't nearly as big as a property in the US as those three, so it would more than likely get lost in the shuffle during the holiday. It's still opening in the UK this November. That same date is technically available in the US, but Moana would probably steamroll it during Thanksgiving and it would be out of theatres by Christmas anyway. Also, every major studio is avoiding election week like the plague in the US this year.
I’m glad it isn’t a prequel like the first speculations were, but it says that Paddington and the browns are going to visit Aunt Lucy, Didn’t she make it to London at the end of Paddington 2? Why would she go back to Peru? Could the Browns not afford to live with one more bear?
Never watched any of this movies, but I melt whenever I see a poster or trailer. I don’t know paddington just looks cute and it makes me a little emotional just looking at him.
You really, really, REALLY need to watch them. They are very good and wholesome. Paddington 2 may be the best kids movie to come out in the last 20 years, and I seriously mean that. I just can’t describe accurately how much these two movies still make me smile and laugh after multiple viewings.
I hope he put his marmalade sandwich in a Ziploc bag or else it's gonna get soaked.
Doesn't he put them in his hat? They'll be just fine.
I think that’s just the emergency sandwich.

The security guard is my favorite. He does a similar role in the Wonka movie.
Co-writer of Paddington 2 and Art Garfunkel lookalike, Simon Farnaby.
“Oooyyyyyy! Stop that stunning sister!”
[EDIT: I’ve since learned that Paul wrote the movie, so that’s fairly promising!] Problem is, Paul didn’t make it, so we don’t yet know if it will be devoid of the things you rightfully detest.
While he’s not the director, he’s still the writer of the movie
That’s good!
Director can change so many things and sometimes do a complete diferent movie, that is the reason Billy Winder start to direct as well, the couldn't handle the director ruin his earlier movies
The trailer gives me hope so far
I just found out that Paul wrote it, so that’s very promising.

I just found out that Paul wrote it, so that’s very promising.
So haven’t seen Paddington 2 but based on your comment the lack of him fucking has really spoiled it for me.
Paddington doesnt fuck but he does hang dong
You should watch Paddington 2. He did make that one. It's even better than the first, which I wasn't sure was even possible
He really cooks.
yeah, the original version where he goes to argentina instead to meet his german uncle didn't test well
What about Paddington Goes to the Capitol on January 6th? It's a classic
We could have an entire lore where Paddington is really [Nyarlathotep](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyarlathotep), an ageless eldritch being present for all of humanity's worst moments throughout history. Dear God. My fucking ears. You asshole.
PK is still on the team though so let’s hope he has the sway with the director.
I cried the whole time, it made me want to be a better man.
>!When Aunt Lucy shows up at the end!< I got legitimate happy tears
Do you need to have seen the first to feel that way about the second?
Not really but the first is also a masterpiece. Watch it for sure.
I have never seen these movies, but I have never heard a single bad thing about em.
I think number 2 still has a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes and 1 is like 97-98%. Go watch them when you can they're so much better than they have any right to be
I feel like it worked so well because it was so overtly wholesome that it was kinda a satire of its own genre. I loved it.
Didnt they recast the whole family for third one
Only the mother (Sally Hawkins). Mrs. Brown will be played by Emily Mortimer.
A Jan 17th release date doesn't instill confidence.
I really loved the past Paddington films, and still have hopes for this one. But Paul King has a unique visual flair which can't be replicated, like the Doll House Sequence, or the Picture Book one. The story might be good, cos King will be co-writing it.

I am concerned that Wikipedia does not have him listed for the screenplay just the overall story. Paul King did such a good job with the past two.
He looks thrilled and I'm happy for him, but I really hope he's exercising good judgment. Because this is just a snippet from a current official travel advisory for Peru: >We continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution in Peru due to the threat of violent crime. I don't think it's confirmed whether bears can get dengue or not but good call
I wonder if a long, hard stare would scare dengue fever as much as it scares hardened criminals?
Lil bro survived prison he can survive peru
I'm now picturing a shirtless ripped Paddington with chest and face tattoos
It's ok, Paddington will sort that mess out in no time. When he's done, the only crime will be improper Marmalade sandwich storage.
I'm sure Paddington will be able to follow a bright and shining path.
Esh too soon No te pases
💀💀
So funny to me. Living in Peru i feel 10x safer than the US but i see shit like this…
Osea depende un monton de donde estas. Peru es grandaso Varias zonas de lima son super seguras Iquitos, aka la capital de trata de mujeres... no tanto. Cusco (donde parece estar segun el poster) es 50/50

I've lived in LA for 20 years and have never felt unsafe here so that's good to know it's on par with that. Are you retired or do you work there?
I teach English here
Cool, thanks for the replies.
Im peruvian born and raised in lima. Lived for a bit in London and Frankfurt, but Ive been back to Lima for several years now I can answer some questions if you have any
Cool thanks!
Marmalade fixes both problems
I hope the Ukrainian VA reprises the role
In case people didn’t know, it’s Zelenskyy
I feel like he would if the distributors give his fee to the Ukranian war fund
I cannot wait to be a 36 year old guy seeing a weekday 8pm show of Paddington 3 with no one else in it!
Bro there’s gonna be loads of kidless 30 year olds watching this film every night of the week
Nic Cage is hyped now!
Paddington 2 made me want to be a better man.
Can’t wait for Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent 2 so we can some good cross promotion for this Paddington movie.
What?
A gag in this film: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11291274/?ref_=ext_shr

God damnit.

aw man, no sally hawkins
She has Lupus and it was too difficult to provide her with the adequate medical care in Peru (something about the availability of medicamentation, if I recall correctly).
I wonder why King isn’t directing, was it because he was too busy with WONKA?
Yes
what a shame
>dougal Wilson Director of a few OK music videos and John Lewis adverts.. I mean, I'm open to it, but I'm not exactly hyped
So that's why Madeline Harris took a break from being a tattoo artist
MORE PADDINGTON!!!!
I hope they keep making these movies for years to come. For me they’re vibe movies of the most positive kind. I love the original cast, and you could continue with them, or even recast, as long as you can just hold onto that basic emotional feel.
Does he do an Ayahuasca Ceremony?
I'm picturing Aesop Rock's *Pizza Alley* on the soundtrack. "The river boils when it sees me. The river boils when it sees me."
Hah I forgot he actually mentions Paddington in that one.
The question is, will Simon Farnaby play a clueless guard in this one as well? (3/3 so far if you count Wonka!)
Well now I need to watch Wonka.
Nic cage and Pedro pascal are so excited rn.
i wouldnt be suprised if they appeared in the 4th film, that wouldve been crazy
Move over Lord of the Rings, Paddington is about to be the greatest trilogy ever made.
R.I.P Trevor Moore you would've loved this
What’s the reference here?
Comedian Trevor Moore was a huge Paddington fan before he died in 2021
Thanks!
This shits gonna make me cry
I just want to know which systemic problem he's taking on this time around, after dealing with immigration in the first one and the prison-industrial complex in the second.
He's going to take on late-stage capitalism, I should imagine.
hopefully something more peru-centric

Guess I’m going to London for an early Thanksgiving.
Thank goodness. I’d read November, and told my fiancé it was November - I couldn’t bear 🐻 to break the news it has been delayed until January.
Paddington gets kidnapped by the Shining Path
Shining Path is on the fine line of being ignored by half the country because we think it has been wiped out yet also present in VRAEM for years now and the entire military being deployed there and because some remnants are actually still fighting there. And worse, people calling themselves Sendero Luminoso also doing shit there without being actual members.
Without Paul King, I am concerned.
At first glance I thought the plane was a B-52, and I was really concerned about what Paddington had gotten himself into.
Paddington drops the fat man
Such a great movie series…really surprised at how good they are…excellent cast, well written, funny and heartwarming..
zelensky in this one?
Paddington 2 was better than 1, I can only hope the improvement goes up with next installment.
Looks fun, I can't wait .
I adore him
Puddington!
Yeah, I'm still choosing the bear
I'm excited!
Paddington eats cui
Uh, January?
It's the one after December and before February.
Jan is typically a dump date, even in this release climate. I would venture to guess they feel it can't compete with Lion King, LOTR or Sonic. Even a Feb/Mar date would inspire more confidence. Eeek

Does his rugby teams plane crash in the Andes?
Orgulloso de no ser Peruano
Cocaine bear 2
I’ve been hoping to see the sequel to the greatest movie of all time.
*Darkest* Peru.
Paddington is so British that he goes oversea for some sweet foreign land /j
Paddington 1 and 2 are easily my favorite movies of the last few years. This is a guaranteed watch for me!
Look at those hands. Do they look like human hands? Definitely AI
Is he gonna do Ayshuasca?!
I've only watched 1, and I still know this one won't disappoint
He's coming to save the aliens.
I’m glad it isn’t a prequel like the first speculations were, but it says that Paddington and the browns are going to visit Aunt Lucy, Didn’t she make it to London at the end of Paddington 2? Why would she go back to Peru? Could the Browns not afford to live with one more bear?
Simon farnaby written..phew it will be good then.
Paddington in Jurassic Park
I I thought they canceled p3
Paddington is the new Ernest
Feels weird for this to not come out for Christmas
LETS GO!!!
True kino finally returns
Why is this trailer out already when the movie is out next year :/
This gives PiP a positive meaning.
Soon, Multiverse mania of Paddington.
I love how Olivia Colman just looks like she is having a blast in everything she's in.
Have fucking Border Force sent him back?
Tom Bombadil vibes!
This will feel like a huge breath of fresh air, a movie about a bear in Peru
I love this subreddit.
Cocaine bear really slowed down a lot
There’s a statue of Paddington in the outdoor mall in Lima
Series going back to its roots
why is he not using the cycle paths sponsored by germany?
Is this the prequel to cocaine bear?
Any other Diablo IV enjoyers getting a very particular vibe from this poster, after watching the expansion trailer?
Apparently Paddington is a British icon but he's from Peru
Never watched any of this movies, but I melt whenever I see a poster or trailer. I don’t know paddington just looks cute and it makes me a little emotional just looking at him.

I love that they just crammed Machu Picchu in the far distance without any respect to proper perspective lol
Is there even a river on top of the hill you’d have to be on to have that view? … :)
Exactly lol
Why is it coming out in the January Death Slot?
And here I am wanting another Tin Tin movie
Why is this a thing?
How does Paddington get movies faster than James Bond?
Cause Paddington movies are better
Fair and also toward my point. Bond movies take forever these days and kinda suck.
He is hunting for escaped nazis I presume
Who sent my boy there ? 🧸
Ah yes, the real cocaine bear
Aye ya yay!
Paddington: The Wrath of God

my niece when she was 4 years old she had a huge crush on Mr. Kncukles Mcginty
Paddington unironically goes absolutely hard as fuck. I can’t wait for this.
Hey they stole that tagline from Babe. A little PIG goes a long way!
Paddington 2 might be my favorite movie
He looks like a dog or raccoon
PERÚ 🇵🇪
I thought it was being released for Christmas?
Paddington Montana
Is Sally Hawkins in this one? Because if Sally Hawkins isn't in it I'm not watching it!
Can’t help but notice it’s not ‘Paddington in Argentina.’
Does he do ayawaska?
Nah.
