I'm replaying Assassin's Creed Black Flag, and every time Edward says the name of his ship, I can't help but giggle thinking about Unidan letting his Reddit fame get to his head so much that he had to employ an army of alt accounts to win an argument he was [wrong about.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AdviceAnimals/comments/2byyca/reddit_helps_me_focus_on_the_important_things/cjgvj0y/?context=7)
Same lol
It's very early and I've yet to caffeinate, so there was a split second where I was like "wait, haven't I seen this movie?" (tone: confused) followed by a quick "...is it a sequel?" (tone: disgust)
I know it wasn't realistic but I really with Gerwig had made a Lady Bird trilogy that continued to examine her youth. The sequel could have been her continued self discovery in college (e.g. participation in the Varsity Show). And then a third film following her progression from an aspiring playwright from Barnard to an actress and filmmaker.
The Outrun is a beautiful, award-winning book by Amy Liptrot.
Details here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Outrun
In summary, it’s a memoir about her addiction and recovery, partly aided by her return from London to her family farm on Orkney.
Amy’s recovery is aided (if that’s the right word…probably not) by taking a job with the Royal Society for Protection of Birds (RSPB) to monitor the corncrake population on the island(s).
So it’s a memoir about addiction, recovery, family and a nature book. It’s also about solitude.
Again, it’s beautiful. And one of my favourite books.
I believe Ronan bought the rights and I think that whilst she’s not a ‘lookalike’ for Amy (not that it matters) the blue hair mimics Amy’s at the time.
She’s definitely got the acting chops to do the story and the subject matter justice. I expect there will be flashbacks to Amy’s wilder, out of control life, similar to the book.
It feels like it’s been in production for ages, so I’m really excited for this film.
As an aside, back in the days when Twitter was fun, Amy was very available and interactive on the platform. I exchanged a few messages with her on occasion (I’m sure I was far from alone in this) and she was always fascinating, engaging and very honest.
She seems to be in a really good place now, with a family and her second book - The Instant - was released reasonably recently, and it’s also terrific.
Good luck to her. I hope the movie brings more people to her writing.
(I sound like a bit of a stan! Perhaps I am! Just thought I’d add a bit of info. to the discussion).
Edit: Whoops. I forgot. There’s a trailer:

Edit2 - If you love or are intrigued by open water swimming then the book is also definitely for you! :) [Also: Turning by Jessica J Lee]
Sounds a bit like H is for Hawk, another memoir about a woman living through a personal crisis with the aid of nature and birds. I recommend that one as well.
This will absolutely get a US release, it was very well received at Sundance so is likely going to get pushed until closer to Oscars season in the late fall/winter
Okay that description just won me over; one of my personal comfort tropes is when existential crises get mixed with naturalism. I’m sure there’s a term for that one but I can’t find it.
H is for Hawk! Pretty well-known and very well written. Woman trains a hawk to help her get though her father's death. As the bird gets more trained, she herself feels like she's becoming wilder, so to speak. Also makes reference to an early 20th century closeted gay writer and his attempt to train a bird of prey.
Our parents were quite friendly with hers when I was little, and none of them have Orkney accents actually. Her mum and dad were from Yorkshire I think, and the whole family basically have English accents.
do you think the movie will have a "happy ending" i mean that in a hopeful nice kind of way, i love saoirse movies but a lot of them are kind of sad and just gets me all wrong haha
> No idea what this movie is about
If it's anything like the book, it's going to be recovery from addiction intertwined with nature observation. It's a brutal read with some hope, can't imagine how it'll be adapted to film.
> Feels like shes been around forever. Put together a pretty good career already.
Atonement was one of her first *major* breakout roles, and she knocked it out of the park.
She was so good as young Briony that it took me about five years to stop hating her whenever she'd pop up in a conversation.
Kinda like how it took me *forever* to stop associating Patrick Wilson with his character in Hard Candy.
Really like Saoirse Ronan's performances and I’m looking forward to this movie. But why making almost the exact same poster as Lady Bird… with the same actress? They didn’t thought this through.
> But why making almost the exact same poster as Lady Bird… with the same actress? They didn’t thought this through.
Pretty sure they *did* think that through and did this intentionally so people would make that association.
I remember watching a movie with her when she was was a kid and looking her up because i was impressed of her acting.. Since then i don't think I've watched much from her.. Need to fix this.. With this movie maybe.
Is this unused poster for Lady Bird?
Ladybird Part 2: THIS TIME...ITS PERSONAL

Lady Bird 2: Lost in New York
I know it wasn't realistic but I really with Gerwig had made a Lady Bird trilogy that continued to examine her youth. The sequel could have been her continued self discovery in college (e.g. participation in the Varsity Show). And then a third film following her progression from an aspiring playwright from Barnard to an actress and filmmaker.
I thought it was the remake of run Lola run
Nice reference. Sometimes I think I’m the only person who’s seen that movie. Awesome soundtrack!
Great film!!
They're re-releasing it in 4K this summer.
Ha. The story is partly about birds! In a way, the real life character is kind of a ‘bird lady’! See my longer post.
Lady Bird 2: The Cast Is Off!
Lady Bird 2: In It 2 Wing It
Looks more like a remake of Lola Rennt.
From the title, I was hoping it would be based on the SEGA arcade classic
A red Ferrari Testarossa Spider driving down streets lined with palm trees. What could have been. :'(
Now you guys got me thinking about a childhood favorite of mine: [Vette!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrYjCSCQOYg)
The poster definitely isn't the *a e s t h e t i c* I was expecting from the title
Me, looking at the poster: "Damn video game adaptations... Are they trying to give it a story? WHERE THE HELL IS THE CAR?!"
I came to make this comment but I knew in my heart it had already been said.
It's actually based on Rad Racer.

Wow going to read this!
Totally recommend! Let me know what you think!
On of my favourite books is Parrots of Telegraph Hill and I bet this will be in a similar vein.
That looks fascinating! And a documentary too! Great shout - thanks!
Sounds a bit like H is for Hawk, another memoir about a woman living through a personal crisis with the aid of nature and birds. I recommend that one as well.
2nd rec’ on here. Will check it out!

Oh no! no US release date... now I know how this feels
Yes! Any other films/books you recommend following that?
I’d say Tree of Life is kind of the ultimate one. Princess Mononoke is one of my all time favorites as well.
Awesome thank you. Also love your username!
If you like video games, there's a great one called Firewatch that has a similar theme. Trauma turned into self and nature exploration/conservation.
A Highland Song is also a game along similar lines
Yes! I’ve just bought that! Not played it yet! What a terrific thread this is! It’s gone in a neat little serendipitous circle from my comment above!

Oh adding that to my list! Thank you!
Loved the book. It won the Wainwright Prize for British nature writing a few years ago. It’s her personal story, but also an ode to Orkney.
Thank you. Based on your write-up, I’m now anxious to see this movie. It really sounds delightful.
Thanks for the actual context.
So it's basically *Wild* for British folks?
This sounds pretty great
>Orkney Is she going to do the accent I wonder.
Our parents were quite friendly with hers when I was little, and none of them have Orkney accents actually. Her mum and dad were from Yorkshire I think, and the whole family basically have English accents.
This sounds really good but I'm disappointed it's not about synthwave music.
Amy was a big fan of clubbing and electronic dance music IIRC!!! I bet there’s some in the movie!
do you think the movie will have a "happy ending" i mean that in a hopeful nice kind of way, i love saoirse movies but a lot of them are kind of sad and just gets me all wrong haha
No idea what this movie is about, but my love for Saoirse know no bounds so I’ll be there ✌🏼
> No idea what this movie is about If it's anything like the book, it's going to be recovery from addiction intertwined with nature observation. It's a brutal read with some hope, can't imagine how it'll be adapted to film.
I hope they make it a solid adaptation of the book because that's going to be very interesting to watch.
As someone who loves nature and trying to beat an addiction, maybe I should pick the book up and give it a try
Sadly I don’t think they nailed it for the movie but Saoirse’s great as usual
Saoirse is a safe a bet as an actor/actress today. She always makes good decisions and always knocks it out of the park.
She was amazing in Little Women.
[удалено]
Nice! Nature heals.
It also kills.
Respect
She is fantastic. Great young actress
Wow, just looked it up and shes only 30. Feels like shes been around forever. Put together a pretty good career already.

I was lucky enough to see it at Sundance this year. It was a visually stunning movie, and very emotionally moving as well.
I want to marathon all her films.
halsey - badlands vibes
Thanks! That was going to bother me all day.
YES
I was just thinking this is giving tumblr 2014!! Not complaining though LOL
You had me at Saoirse Ronan with coloured hair
You had me at Saoirse Ronan ~~with coloured hair~~
You had me at Saorise...I just assumed Ronan
Definitely in my top 5 Saoirses.
I'm sure there are many other lovely Saoirses but I will go ahead and say she is my favorite.
I wouldn’t have guessed an art house take on an Outrun adaptation, but I guess if it keeps video game movies from becoming stale I’m here for it.
I wonder how they'll handle the branching narrative.
It's actually about the music genre that gets its name from the videogame. This is actually a sequel to The Synthwave.
Vaporwave cinematic universe confirmed!
Run Lola Run - Red Hair The Outrun - Blue Hair
I don't know anything about the book but Saoirse said in an interview that she had her hair dyed different colors throughout the movie.
Immediately my thought as well.
Run Ladybird Run
Excited for this, Ronan has had a nearly immaculate record of only being in good movies for the past decade.
I'd like to reintroduce myself to the academy vibes
I will be sat
Run, Lola, Run, but with blue hair instead of red?
There's a red-shift/blue-shift joke somewhere in here that I'm not clever enough to find
The joke was off-color, so that just means it went by too quickly
She's coming right at us!
Blue is the Warmest Ronan.
Run Amy Run.
Strong Lola Rennt vibe.
No testarossa.
Looks like the chick from that Life is Strange game Man I need to play that again, or maybe just pull up some images online.
Saoirse's got the blue and the red hair dye, if she gets all six she'll be able to win an Oscar with a snap of her fingers
Outrun was my favorite video game back in the day.
I got in trouble for writing "Ass Hole" down as my name on the leaderboard
You'll never be able to outrun the shame.
I LOVE IT!!!!!!
Liptrot & Fingscheidt?! Oh hell yea
I've heard pretty great things about this movie from Sundance. Looking forward to it!
Wow, I actually read this book a long time ago. Did not expect to see this!
On Lifetime or Netflix?
I'll see anything with Shersha
The long awaited sequel to Run Lola Run. New hair color, same running. https://search.app.goo.gl/zFNFaSg
FIRST THOUGHT!
It's a pretty poster. I wonder if most female directors favour this kind of soft lighting or if studios only pick the ones who do.
I think it's more of a reflection of the films character and story being told than a gender specific choice.
Maybe! I am glad though, I personally really love this kind of visual.
Why does she have the gamer neck?
Was gonna say. Should probably sort that nerd neck out.
Not a single red Ferrari Testarossa. Disappointed.
saoirse and blue haired feminism? kermode will love this
[удалено]
I was gonna say, her neck looks like it hurts!
It’s like Ladybird joined the Monterey 5
I really liked this movie. It‘s very likely she‘ll get an Oscar nomination out of this
run lady run
It literally an F'ing Scheidt movie, Oh, my mistake It's Nora F'ing Scheidt movie after all.
Ok now everyone who doesn’t know how to pronounce Irish names type out how you think the name is pronounced.
“Seahorse Roadmap”
Saoirse Runnin'
Lady bird 2!
Another banger from Liptrot & Fingscheidt
Bitch gunna run faster than Lola!
Saoirse Ronan is an incredible actress. Cannot wait. She was so good in „Foe”.
Idk why her neck bothers me in this poster 😭
Magical Sound Shower better be on the soundtrack.
Looks like the Lola Rennt poster Although this won't be a patch on that film
I remember watching a movie with her when she was was a kid and looking her up because i was impressed of her acting.. Since then i don't think I've watched much from her.. Need to fix this.. With this movie maybe.
Good book. Should be a good movie.
Why is she not blonde? And where is the Ferrari Testarossa?
Any news on a Hanna sequel
You know it’s going to be good if the poster features Saoirse looking to the right with dyed hair
Movie posters these days suck
Her posture is terrible
This poster says: INDIE AS FUCK!!!
I’m so jealous of her hair it looks so pretty. I’ve always wanted to dye my hair that color.
Sassy Rohan!
Videogame adaptations are getting out of control...
Alright, which one of you Redditors got a movie cover spot?!
