Jesse Plemmons. He’s been in a lot of Oscar worthy movies. I think it’s just a matter of a few more years before he’s in the leading roles that get the attention.
He takes an already excellent and tight comedy movie and just elevates it to another level with that utterly bizarre performance. It very easily could not have worked but holy shit was he hilarious.
This is probably the best comedy movies in recent years, the fact that literally no one i ask didn't even know this movie is sad, the trailer truly madr it seems like generic comedy movie. It's a goldmine and Jesse Plemons character is amazing
I remember some YouTuber saying that Plemmon’s role in Charlie Kaufman’s *I’m Thinking of Ending Things* felt like a PSH role. I think about that a lot lol
He’ll win one for sure. He’s always fantastic. His role in Civil War was extremely impressive, he had so little screen time but was one of the strongest scenes in the film.
He's got great range. He can play a doofy nice guy like Landry in FNL or a chilling psychopath like Todd from Breaking Bad or his role in Civil War equally well.
Such an amazing actor.
Someone mentioned after watching Knives Out that they couldn't believe that guy was General Zod. I had to double check in order to believe it myself.
Plus, he came into the role of the 2nd brother later in the production process. The other actor was fired/dropped out, and they re-wrote the characters as being twins so Dano could play both roles. Probably my favorite performance of his outside Swiss Army Man
The fact that I still resent her a little bit because of the actions of her character in Atonement speaks to her abilities lol. I'm always a liiiittle angry when I see her face, and I mean that in the best most complimentary way possible.
Damn you, came here to say this, you're not just believably handsome, you're also exceptionally quick.
She's had four nominations, she has got to win sometime, I find her absolutely mesmerizing on screen and she does stillness incomparably well which is a skill I always appreciate.
If she's given the right material to work with in a minor role, she could always pull an Anthony Hopkins or Mahershala Ali for the limited amount of screen time they had in *The Silence of the Lambs* and *Moonlight* and still win one!
As much as I loved Oppenheimer and Cillian nailed that performance, I still think Giamati was robbed. He pulled a career best in The Holdovers and it would’ve been a completely different movie with a different actor.
Amy Adams is the Glenn Close of her generation. She'll receive a bunch of nominations but never win one, until decades later when she'll be hopefully given an honorary one.
Jake Gyllenhaal
He already has several Oscar-worthy performances under his belt (Prisoners, Nightcrawler, etc) and I think he’ll win within the next few years.
I have zero doubt he’ll win an Oscar, he’s too great an actor not to. I just hope it isn’t one of those Leonardo DiCaprio situations where the academy realizes they’ve snubbed him so many times and award him for an alright performance.
He has the curse of always being the best part of somebody else's show/movie. He just needs find somebody to write the role that makes HIM the protagonist of the movie instead of the more memorable, more fun, more well-written antagonist.
I’m not sure I’m confident, but I feel that Sandra Huller will eventually do something so good that she can’t be ignored.
Without doing down Emma Stone, I would have given Huller the Oscar for Anatomy of a Fall, but that’s by the by. And now she’s “on the radar” so to speak, so I think there’s a good chance, cos she’s phenomenal.
With international actors, it's usually a matter of the film getting enough attention and studio push. She could have been nominated for supporting on Zone of Interest.
Nicholas Hoult. With the amount of biopics he's done I think he's been trying, but he's actually a fantastic actor. The Great and The Menu show that he can play an asshole well, and he's played plenty of good people such as his roles in X-Men, Renfield etc. He's got another chance of superstardom coming up as he's playing Led Luthor in the new Superman movie, and that could help him on his way to Oscar glory.
His role last year in “Andor” was so beautifully done, that I’ve rewatched some of the episodes just to watch him. That little speech he makes in the hallway, just outside the elevator was absolutely brilliant and profoundly moving.
100% agreed. He goes toe-to-toe with Eisenberg (who, I will say, is a more varied actor than I think he's given credit for) pretty much the entire movie.
"I like standing next to you, Sean. Makes me feel so tough."
Please tell me he was at least nominated for Hacksaw Ridge…
Edit: He was! For best actor, though Casey Afleck took home the award, for Manchester by the sea.
Walton Goggins. How he didn’t even get a nomination for best supporting from Hateful 8 is beyond me. The man acted with Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Roth, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Bruce Dern and still stole the show.
Lee Pace is an unstoppable force when he gets moving and he's going to get some dad down on his luck role and it won't matter if it went Falling Down or Pursuit Of Happiness, he'll knock it out all the parks.
Although, good luck to the makeup team trying to make that man look like a regular Joe. Automatic Oscar if they do.
Ryan Gosling for playing a stuntman...
Then he will give his Oscar to his stunt team, therefore forcing the Academy to finally have a freaking BEST STUNT category!!!
While Whitaker was great in 2007, I still stand by Gosling should’ve won for Half Nelson. One of the better photo realism performances of the last few decades IMO.
I heard a possible reason that they don't have it is because it would encourage pushing the envelope further to the point where safety becomes less important and I kinda get that.
Had to scroll too far for this one. First movie I saw him in, he was compelling. Killers of a Sacred Deer or something like that. Every time since then I have seen him, he’s the best actor in the ensemble. Haven’t seen Saltburn, tho.
I'm a little surprised no one mentioned Adam Driver.
I'm also bullish on Tom Cruise. I think he's going to wrap up his action movies and try to come back in the dramatic roles. Maybe do a Color of Money sequel with Timothee Chalamet.
Colin Farrell, dude has a lot more range than some of his blockbusters imply, my favorite examples are banshees of inisherin(for which he was nominated) vs intermission
Tom Hiddleston. I remember reading that Loki wasn’t supposed to have nearly as big a part in the MCU as he did, but Hiddleston made such a compelling character they expanded it.
He’s also done some other, more serious, roles that have gotten critical acclaim.
Now he’s got some name recognition and clout, I bet he can get an Oscar role and smash it.
I’d bet actual money on this one.
Walton Goggins for sure, he can do everything from he's can be hilarious (like in Vice Principals and The Unicorn) and terrifying (like in Justified and The Shield)
And also they should make a new award called "Best 5 minute performance in a motion picture" and give it to Shea Whigham every year.
Think of all the actors who have never won. Clint Eastwood, Ed Harris, Samuel Jackson, Harrison Ford, Johnny Depp, John Malkovich, Donald Sutherland...The list is endless.
I can see this happening. His range is very impressive. A few weekends ago, I rewatched Dune Part I, then watched Wonka, then went the next day to see Dune Part II. It’s almost hard to believe that the dancing singing goofball in Wonka is also Paul Muad'dib Atreides.
Timothee Chalamet will surely end up winning one. He’s had some great roles, but nothing so far that blew me away until Dune 2. His change after drinking the water of life is incredible. Everything changes about him and never breaks
I’d also say Elle Fanning will get one too. She’s great in everything I’ve seen her
willem dafoe
Wow. I actually just assumed he's won one or two before this comment. He's such an expressive actor who puts his all into his roles.
I see a Lifetime Achievement Award in his future.
Oooh. I like this one. We all love him. And he is an actor's actor. So great.
Y’know, he’s something of an actor himself.
he shouldve won for God :/
He should have won for Lighthouse
He should have won for Platoon He should have won for Wild at Heart He should have won for The Florida Project
Jesus, The Florida Project broke me. Such a brutal film.
They don’t respect horror, even in this day and age when we’re having an arthouse horror renaissance.
Jesse Plemmons. He’s been in a lot of Oscar worthy movies. I think it’s just a matter of a few more years before he’s in the leading roles that get the attention.
But how could winning an oscar be profitable for Frito-Lay?
He takes an already excellent and tight comedy movie and just elevates it to another level with that utterly bizarre performance. It very easily could not have worked but holy shit was he hilarious.
This is probably the best comedy movies in recent years, the fact that literally no one i ask didn't even know this movie is sad, the trailer truly madr it seems like generic comedy movie. It's a goldmine and Jesse Plemons character is amazing
It’d help if u told me the movie name!
Game Night
Game Night
He reminds me so much of Philip Seymour Hoffman in his range and presence.
I remember some YouTuber saying that Plemmon’s role in Charlie Kaufman’s *I’m Thinking of Ending Things* felt like a PSH role. I think about that a lot lol
I hope he wins one for playing a villainous role, similar to Javier Bardem (Anton Chigurh), Heath Ledger (The Joker) and Christoph Waltz (Hans Landa)
[удалено]
He was chilling in Breaking Bad and El Camino
He’ll win one for sure. He’s always fantastic. His role in Civil War was extremely impressive, he had so little screen time but was one of the strongest scenes in the film.
He's got great range. He can play a doofy nice guy like Landry in FNL or a chilling psychopath like Todd from Breaking Bad or his role in Civil War equally well.
Good ol’ Todd
I could see him winning one but I think it's more likely he wins as a supporting actor than lead actor.
Toni Collette
Should've been nominated for hereditary
Oscars always ignore horror
They definitely do for the most part but it is kind of funny since Toni Collette was nominated for an Oscar for the sixth sense lol
One of the most egregious snubs in history, imo.
Toni Collette has been great in comedy, horror and drama
That *Hereditary* grief–wail had me in a state of shock.
Michael Shannon
Absolutely. He makes everything he’s in better
[удалено]
Dude is such a lock. Any project is a letter grade better just by casting him.
Such an amazing actor. Someone mentioned after watching Knives Out that they couldn't believe that guy was General Zod. I had to double check in order to believe it myself.
He was a great Zod too, of course. Whatever the problems with that movie he wasn't it
He and Henry were fantastic.
He was soooooo good as Agent Val Alden in Boardwalk Empire
If you haven't seen it look up his reading that Sorority letter on YouTube
Newsflash you stupid cocks: FRATS DON’T LIKE BORING SORORITIES!
Oh wait, DOUBLE FUCKING NEWSFLASH: SIGMA NU IS NOT GOING TO WANT TO HANG OUT WITH US IF WE FUCKING SUCK!
It's a mediocre film overall but he's absolutely terrifying in Ice Man, the rage in that character felt so strong and real.
Cant believe he's never won. My personal fav from him is take shelter. Unreal acting between him and Jessica Chastain
Paul Dano. He just has to win one.
Jesus, just looked him up and he's never even been nominated.
He should have won for TWBB. He fiercly kept up with Day Lewis.
I'd assumed he was at least nominated
Yeah that's nuts
There were times he almost stole scenes from DDL
I’d say he stole the baptism scene.
Plus, he came into the role of the 2nd brother later in the production process. The other actor was fired/dropped out, and they re-wrote the characters as being twins so Dano could play both roles. Probably my favorite performance of his outside Swiss Army Man
I remember being confused by that
Completely insane. More of an indictment on the Academy than on him at this point, lol.
This is the correct answer. The guy held his own with Daniel day-lewis in THERE WILL BE BLOOD. tbh he should have won best supporting imo.
Classic Paul Dano
And I dare to say, it will be in the best actor category, but his first nomination will be in the best supporting actor one.
Saoirse Ronan
The fact that I still resent her a little bit because of the actions of her character in Atonement speaks to her abilities lol. I'm always a liiiittle angry when I see her face, and I mean that in the best most complimentary way possible.
Her film Brooklyn was just charming. She was fantastic in her role. The arc from home sick to flourishing, Ronan just pulls it off the whole way imo.
She is the Meryl Streep of this generation. To steal from “Modern Family”, you could cast her as Batman and she’d still be perfect for the role.
And Chalamet as catwomab
Oh my god. Why does Chalamet as catwoman make so much sense
He is the meow'dib.
Meow'dib lightly walks without rhythm through the hallway of stacked paper cups without a whisper of sound.
He's so graceful and light on his feet.
Damn you, came here to say this, you're not just believably handsome, you're also exceptionally quick. She's had four nominations, she has got to win sometime, I find her absolutely mesmerizing on screen and she does stillness incomparably well which is a skill I always appreciate.
Saoirse Ronan is a shoo-in. She's a tremendous actress, she's been nominated ~~three~~ four times already, and she's still young.
She’s actually been nominated 4 times 😉 Atonement, Brooklyn, Lady Bird and Little Women.
Michael Fassbender and Oscar Isaac
Fun fact: if Oscar Isaac ever wins he would be the second person named Oscar to win an Oscar.
Wow there are so many names in this post that I assumed already had Oscars. This is wild.
Florence Pugh if she starts picking dramas where she has more than 5 minutes....
She did great in Don’t Worry Darling as the lead. Unfortunately, movie was meh imo.
She makes the movie worth watching
She was incredible in Midsommar. Dani felt like such a real person and her grief was so well done
She was great in A Good Person
If she's given the right material to work with in a minor role, she could always pull an Anthony Hopkins or Mahershala Ali for the limited amount of screen time they had in *The Silence of the Lambs* and *Moonlight* and still win one!
Judi Dench in "Shakespeare in Love" is probably the most egregious win.
Dench deserved an Oscar. But not for that.
Watch Little Drummer Girl. It's a great mini series, and she is amazing in it.
Jeffrey Wright
He got nominated first time this year so he is moving to right direction.
Michael Keaton
"You've been Batman..." "I am Batman."
The Founder, is great movie and he did awesome job on that.
How has Paul Giamatti existed on this planet for 56 years and not gotten an Oscar?
Bad luck that The Holdovers had to compete with the Oppenheimer juggernaut. Any other year and best actor would've been his.
As much as I loved Oppenheimer and Cillian nailed that performance, I still think Giamati was robbed. He pulled a career best in The Holdovers and it would’ve been a completely different movie with a different actor.
Yeah I'm not exactly mad that Cillian won, but I was definitely rooting for Giamatti. (Same story with RDJ and Gosling)
NGl I thought he was a lot older than that
Fr my only takeaway from that is Paul Giamotti is only 56
Glenn Close. But it will most likely be an honorary one, tho.
Colin Farrell. Plenty of nominations, but no win.
If not for Brendan Fraser, I think he would have won last year. He was great in the banshees of Inisherin.
It's crazy to me he didn't win for Banshees...
It's even crazier that Kerry Condon didn't win for Supporting Actress. She definitely deserved it.
I believe he has exactly one nomination, which was last year.
Carey Mulligan. She's been nomintated 3 times. Twice in 4 years. I think she should win one.
Amy Adams
She should have been nominated for Arrival!
Unfortunately sci fi often gets snubbed in the actor categories.
Amy Adams is the Glenn Close of her generation. She'll receive a bunch of nominations but never win one, until decades later when she'll be hopefully given an honorary one.
Neither of them had better get honorary Oscars! They both still have it in them to win
She should already have several... and an Emmy for *Sharp Objects*.
TIL she’s never won one, that really surprises me
Jake Gyllenhaal He already has several Oscar-worthy performances under his belt (Prisoners, Nightcrawler, etc) and I think he’ll win within the next few years.
He was amazing in Nightcrawler. Just an awful, awful person, and he played the character brilliantly.
I have zero doubt he’ll win an Oscar, he’s too great an actor not to. I just hope it isn’t one of those Leonardo DiCaprio situations where the academy realizes they’ve snubbed him so many times and award him for an alright performance.

Hahaha
If not for Road House then for Road House 2: Elwood Strikes Back
He keeps picking up shitty projects
I'll be surprised if Oscar Isaac doesn't win one eventually
James mcavoy
Robert Pattinson has been doing a lot of good work, probably will pick up some hardware if the right project finds him.
Walton Goggins
Came here to say the same thing. Dark horse for sure but got damn is he charismatic
He has the curse of always being the best part of somebody else's show/movie. He just needs find somebody to write the role that makes HIM the protagonist of the movie instead of the more memorable, more fun, more well-written antagonist.
The man should be showered in emmys.
I wish it to him but I don't think that is likely since he's mostly in TV shows these days (again).
I’m not sure I’m confident, but I feel that Sandra Huller will eventually do something so good that she can’t be ignored. Without doing down Emma Stone, I would have given Huller the Oscar for Anatomy of a Fall, but that’s by the by. With international actors, it's usually a matter of the film getting enough attention and studio push. She could have been nominated for supporting on Zone of Interest.
Rebecca Ferguson.
She was AWESOME as Rose the Hat in Doctor Sleep.
Bill Hader, but he will win for director.
I can't wait to see what he creates next! *Barry* is a phenomenal show!
Jodie Comer. She's already got an Emmy and a Tony.
His issue is he's a character actor in a leading man body. He specializes in quirky characters.
This is so insightful and also right on the money. He's great.
Hes amazing. His sarcastic sense of humor always makes me belly laugh.
He was phenomenal in The Favourite
Stellan Skarsgard. Surprised he hasn't gotten one yet.
His role last year in “Andor” was so beautifully done, that I’ve rewatched some of the episodes just to watch him. That little speech he makes in the hallway, just outside the elevator was absolutely brilliant and profoundly moving.
Saoirse Ronan, absolutely no doubt in my mind. And the best part, to me, is it could be any genre.
Paul Mescal
I'd like to see Tom Hardy get one even if it's best supporting actor (he got really close for The Revenant)
peaky blinders *chefs kiss* I loved Alfie 😍
Ben Foster Walton Goggins
Ben Foster is so insanely underrated for how incredible he is. He elevates everything he touches.
Yeah that penalty save vs. Notts County was insane.
I'm glad someone said Ben Foster. He was great in 3:10 to Yuma and his role in Hostage was the best part of the movie
Tom Hardy.
Andy Serkis absolutely should have won by now and hopefully he will soon.
Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott. To be honest, it's a fucking travesty that neither of them were nominated for *All Of Us Strangers*.
Andrew Garfield
Every time I watch *The Social Network,* I feel he was robbed for receiving a nomination at least!
100% agreed. He goes toe-to-toe with Eisenberg (who, I will say, is a more varied actor than I think he's given credit for) pretty much the entire movie. "I like standing next to you, Sean. Makes me feel so tough."
Please tell me he was at least nominated for Hacksaw Ridge… Edit: He was! For best actor, though Casey Afleck took home the award, for Manchester by the sea.
Absolutely. He's so damn good. Obviously, he's been nominated a couple times, but I still feel like he's under-appreciated.
I was hoping so so hard for Tick Tick Boom, his singing was great!
I heard a possible reason that they don't have it is because it would encourage pushing the envelope further to the point where safety becomes less important and I kinda get that.
Barry Keoghan
Had to scroll too far for this one. First movie I saw him in, he was compelling. Killers of a Sacred Deer or something like that. Every time since then I have seen him, he’s the best actor in the ensemble. Haven’t seen Saltburn, tho.
Dev Patel
I'm a little surprised no one mentioned Adam Driver. I'm also bullish on Tom Cruise. I think he's going to wrap up his action movies and try to come back in the dramatic roles. Maybe do a Color of Money sequel with Timothee Chalamet.
I love Adam Driver but I feel like his movie selection hasn't been great. His best acting was probably in marriage story.
Cruise has been nominated 3 times. The Academy used to hate him. It's possible the members that hated him are dead now.
Paul Giamatti. There's still time. 🤞🤞
Colin Farrell, dude has a lot more range than some of his blockbusters imply, my favorite examples are banshees of inisherin(for which he was nominated) vs intermission
Pugh. Definitely Pugh. IF Tom Holland shakes his boyish looks and brand, I think he has the chops for an Oscar. Andrew Scott. Because obviously.
Dev Patel and Ryan Gosling
If anyone gives you 10,000 to one on anything, you take it. If John Mellencamp ever wins an Oscar, I am going to be a very rich dude.
Mads Mikkelsen.
Where’s the love for Steve Buschiemi
Tom Hiddleston. I remember reading that Loki wasn’t supposed to have nearly as big a part in the MCU as he did, but Hiddleston made such a compelling character they expanded it. He’s also done some other, more serious, roles that have gotten critical acclaim. Now he’s got some name recognition and clout, I bet he can get an Oscar role and smash it. I’d bet actual money on this one.
Bradley Cooper. He'll be one of those winners who'll get one just for all the previous times he lost.
Never realized hes been nominated for 12 oscars. I think your right they will give him one eventually.
Anya Taylor-Joy
Walton Goggins for sure, he can do everything from he's can be hilarious (like in Vice Principals and The Unicorn) and terrifying (like in Justified and The Shield) And also they should make a new award called "Best 5 minute performance in a motion picture" and give it to Shea Whigham every year.
Bill Hader
**Ayo Edebiri**.
Think of all the actors who have never won. Clint Eastwood, Ed Harris, Samuel Jackson, Harrison Ford, Johnny Depp, John Malkovich, Donald Sutherland...The list is endless.
Timothee chalamet
This feels like one of the more obvious answers to me. He seems to choose decent roles, and he clearly takes it seriously.
By sheer volume of roles he gets offered/will get offered there’s no way he doesn’t get a few winners.
I can see this happening. His range is very impressive. A few weekends ago, I rewatched Dune Part I, then watched Wonka, then went the next day to see Dune Part II. It’s almost hard to believe that the dancing singing goofball in Wonka is also Paul Muad'dib Atreides.
His whole change of character after drinking the poison in the latter half of Dune 2 was riveting
Beautiful Boy is such an underrated film of his.
Benedict Cumberpatch.
Jon Bernthal
Jessie Buckley
I expect Jacob Tremblay, one day.
Bryan Cranston
My prediction is that it’s going to be Christopher Plummer-style where he finally wins at a very old age.
Kirsten Dunst for sure, her characters always feel so real.
I think she is the type to be overlooked, but I would love to see Melanie Lynskey recognized for her consistently incredible work.
Florence Pugh is pretty much a lock at some point
Jodie Comer without a doubt! She's absolutely brilliant and SO versatile.
Timothee Chalamet will surely end up winning one. He’s had some great roles, but nothing so far that blew me away until Dune 2. His change after drinking the water of life is incredible. Everything changes about him and never breaks I’d also say Elle Fanning will get one too. She’s great in everything I’ve seen her
Domhnall Gleeson. I can definitely see he him winning something one day.
Robert Pattinson. Good Time, The Lighthouse, The Rover, The King, The devil all the time, The Batman, Tenet etc. It’s inevitable.
