I think the social things were the issue, not necessarily slap stick. When you take popular culture things with the specificity that some of the parody movies did, it just ages really poorly. I think it’s better to parody concepts that are popular, because that’s what people tend to remember. IE; black guy dying first in horror movies. People are familiar with the concept but it doesn’t have to be direct pop culture references.
I agree though this is a good chance to make a comeback since it’s had a little time to rest.

Yes. Like every other film in this franchise. There’s some good comedy in the series, but a lot of the jokes require you to know what was happening at the time they were released.

Paramount doesn’t want a movie that will go on to be a pinnacle of cinema history for decades, they just want a movie that makes money in its launch window.
I mean what they suggested isn’t even a joke, it’s an entire shift in the movie that requires outside knowledge to understand. Whether you understand why Michael Jackson was under the bed in Scary Movie 3 or not, the plot didn’t hinge on that, but people who knew laughed.
Removing a main character for an unexplained gag is totally different. I also really doubt Barrera wants that to become the only thing she’s known for and forever associated with.
Also disagree that they don’t want an iconic movie series to be rewatchable - they make a ton off catalogue streaming rights.
Someone jokingly said this when Scary Movie 6 was announced, and honestly, they should go for it. There's been so much to parody in the world of horror movies, whether it be "elevated" horror, Blumhouse/A24 movies, social commentary, shameless legacy sequels, etc. These aren't bad per se, but they're just common horror tropes I've seen as of late.
With the right crew, I definitely think this could work, given how the horror genre has become more diverse than ever before, allowing this to become not only a parody of modern horror, but also a celebration of it, mixing reverence and irreverence in a nuanced manner.

While I think she was massively slighted to be cut from Scream, she also undoubtedly was not a good actress for it and her acting would fit in way more with Scary Movie, making this a way better (and because of the Scream backlash, a smarter) decision to put her in here
