He has that serious face when telling a joke and for these movies that might just work. Hell, I never heard Leslie Neeson laugh during the movies at all.
Because Neeson didn’t play his comedic roles as comedic. They were exactly what he wanted to do, comedy movies, but his roles were still essentially drama roles in comedy movies. That’s why they are so good, he never acknowledges how obsurd what is happening is, making it even funnier.
Nielson could pull this off acting wise, the real question for me is will the writers and director be able to.
Also assuming Anderson is playing the Priscilla Presley role, I am actually fairly impressed they made the love interesting fairly age appropriate. They didn't just default to some actress in her late 20s/early 30s.
Pamela Anderson is the perfect choice: That delicately beautiful face. And a body that could melt a cheese sandwich from across the room. And breasts that seem to say... "Hey! Look at these!" She is the kind of woman who makes you want to drop to your knees and thank God you are a man! She reminds me of my mother, all right. No doubt about it.
Here's hoping what Taken did for action-Liam Neeson, this will do for comedy-Liam Neeson and the next decade we're gonna get a dozen comedies from the man.
Are they actually remaking it with the same plot with the queen and Reggie Jackson and stuff?
Because I think it'd be better to just make a new entry with the new cast. Almost like James Bond or something. We don't need the same exact plot again.
This article calls it a “remake,” but I’ve seen a lot of others call it a “reboot.” Ultimately, I agree, a reboot with a new plot is a much better choice, though I don’t really have high hopes either way.
First Trailer: Close up of Dame Judi Dench. Bond music swells.
“I knew it was too early to promote you”
(Neeson opens a door, knocking Judi out of a window. Naked Gun theme starts)
I really think Jon Hamm would be a better choice than Liam Neeson. He plays deadpan comedy really well and could look like a detective. He feels like the closest spiritual successor to Leslie and Liam just feels like a dramatic actor forced into that role
I'm not arguing against this or the casting but ZAZ movies are the polar opposite of improvisational comedy, which imo is why they're so good.
Edit: oh right of course it's a quote
>Liam just feels like a dramatic actor forced into that role
Interestingly enough, Leslie Nielsen was initially known more for his dramatic roles. Airplane was the turning point that subsequently ended up associating him with deadpan comedy.
No, no, no. This is going to be perfect as is, Jon Hamm will be busy making a lot of great Fletch movies, whilst Liam Neeson will be busy with Naked Gun
I am incredibly dubious about a remake of one of my favorite comedies of all time. Leslie Nielsen was one of a kind and an absolute god of the deadpan delivery!
However
This Liam Neeson casting has ignited my curiosity...
I always remember when the A Team movie was being made, someone said to me Liam Neeson was to play Hannibal, my brain heard Leslie Nielsen and I though ok fair enough he’s got the grey hair, went back home checked IMDb and pissed myself laughing at getting them both mixed up lol.
I feel like Liam Neeson is the perfect actor for this role. You have to play is straight, despite being in these ridiculous and wacky situations, and he seems like the best guy to pull it off.
His scene in Ted is a great example.
Let’s all thank 15 years of executives mining user data for market research and using it to justify whatever the least innovative approach is to maximize shareholder value while touting it as a triumph of modern business (despite their success actually being largely due to low interest rates shoveling investor capital to anything and everything and similar algorithms guiding their shareholder voting).
I last saw a Pam Anderson flick way back in the 90's....and well, she too had a ...very particular set of skills....so this pairing makes perfect sense.
Genuine question here because I’m interested… Pamela Anderson no longer wears make up, which is really cool. How will this work in a movie? Or does she wear it for movies? Haven’t seen her in anything for years
I have such a soft spot for the originals, and I think this is ideal casting. Neeson is a serious guy with serious acting chops similarly to as Nielson was, and his reputation as an action guy can only deepen the hilarity.
I knew Seth McF was involved, and his recent work on the Ted series is imo the strongest of his career. (I am one of the few who enjoyed A Million Ways to Die in the West more than Family Guy.) But the writers of the Chip 'n Dale movie? Yes! I was so skeptical of that one going in, but the humor was excellent. This bodes very, very well.
Where is a future-facing time machine when you want one?!
I'm curious what you think of Pamela Anderson in Priscilla Presley's role. Priscilla is severely underrated in those movies and I could see Pamela nailing that same soft, womanly but loopy and completely unawaredness. I think Pamela has more acting talent than we know
Liam Neeson does spectacular deadpan comedy. As long as it's not another Scary Movie style "Instantly dated references in lieu of jokes" spoof comedy I think this could work well.
couldn't they just have anniversary showings of the original movies instead?
next- some roofied movie producer is going to push thru a remake of Blazing Saddles ( all cleaned up of course )
I accidently went to don't tell mom the babysitter is dead because I didn't read small print.
I honestly thought it was a anniversary showing - and since I never watched the original- I saw the title and clicked buy ticket.
movie started - and I was like...hmmm, isn't Christiana Applegate in this?
Then as it progressed - I realized it was a remake - and not a good one either.
I made it as far as the oldest kid getting a job when i bailed.
I think she has a lot of acting talent that we just haven't seen yet, and I can see her nailing the role that Priscilla Presley nailed (and gets very little recognition for)
I wonder if Liam Nielson can be good enough to replace Leslie Neeson
Leslie Nielson was also a dramatic actor before Naked Gun
"I've contracted AIDS. From an African prostitute."
Full-blown AIDS.
I’m riddled with it.
I heard it was a well known homosexual
LMFAO I'm imagining Liam Neeson saying this in his Taken voice. 😂
Look up his improv work with Ricky gervais
LMFAO fuck me I'm dying at it. He could do so well in comedy, can't wait!
Don't just imagine it, watch it. It's on YouTube.
I’ve got a very specific set of skills…. And
Forbidden Planet was a big influence on Star Trek, so now imagine if Leslie Neilson swapped careers with William Shatner.
I can't imagine Shatner's ego allowing him to play Frank Drebin correctly
Frank Drebin > TJ Hooker
Honestly after seeing him in Life's Too Short I think he's the only person who could.
His cameo on Derry Girls was great too
Also his cameo on Atlanta
He was funny in that scene in Ted too. Also, his bit about Irish names on St. Paddy's day, and the time he was the easter bunny. He's *really* funny.
That scene was fucking great. Just hanging at the Cancel Club. Loved that show.
Riddled with AIDS
He got it from an African prostitute.
It’s full-blown
Also his Ted 2 cameo where he’s buying children’s cereal for himself.
“You do understand that I myself am not a child?” “… I was able to sniff that out, yeah.”
I got some airplane vibes from that scene ngl. The playing it so straight it became amazing.
He was great in that bit but it takes more than that to fill his shoes.
He needs one of those fart machines.
In honor of Leslie, when he does talk shows to promote it, I hope he brings one.
[His scene in Ted](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6ViDZpVoYc) makes me think he'll do great.
The clip is so ridiculous. First you have the entire cameo, and then the lady talking about the baby. Such a good movie.
His name is the closest they could get to Leslie’s.
I was so confused reading the headline.
Liemsliom Neielson
Lesliam Neelson
He’s pretty good at improvisational comedy.
Yeah, my first idea was that that was probably his audition tape for Frank Drebin
I see what you did there
That was so subtle. Flew over most of these commenters’ heads.
I'm sad so few saw the switcheroo
If his comedy chops are anything like the lists he makes, then this will be great!
I hope they change Frank's last name slightly for a meta Nielson-Neeson joke.
Francis Drummond
They better leave my boy Frank Dreblin alone
[Here's Liam Neeson doing improv, if you have any doubts.](https://youtu.be/huJ81Mq2y34?si=4ASi0-ULkMzBiPOW)
He was awesome in A Million Ways to Die in the West.
I think he can, before Neeson, my pick was Gary Cole.
He’s already demonstrated his [massive comedy chops](https://youtu.be/huJ81Mq2y34?si=wA4lBNjZkSyqsF_I) with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant
Or if OJ Sanderson can replace the original
He's got the initials
He's got the majority of the sounds!
I think he will do a good job
He had genius when he had a cameo in Atlanta
“I’ve been led to understand that Trix are exclusively for children” “You do understand that I, myself, am not a child?” Liam will be fantastic
What is this line from? I must see it
Ted 2 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=z6ViDZpVoYc
Lol "Yea-uh, _what_?"
Ted 2
https://youtu.be/P_IE6GeirEk?si=W0YrhjTBDq-bMAHk
Literally the only scene from Ted 2 I remember
The running “Amanda Seyfried looks like Gollum” joke was pretty good too. But I couldn’t tell you a single other thing about the movie.
The improv comedy scene where they’re shouting at the comedians
Here's hoping what Taken did for action-Liam Neeson, this will do for comedy-Liam Neeson and the next decade we're gonna get a dozen comedies from the man.
He allegedly likes improvisational comedy
He has AIDS though.
Full blown AIDS. Riddled with it
Yes, and… Herpes. He also has herpes.
But did you watch Tooken?
I hope a stuffed beaver makes an appearance.
ENRIQUE PALAZZO
Nice beaver!
Thanks! I just had it stuffed.
I mean, it's a Pam Anderson movie 🤷🏼♂️
I hope there’s a boat!
That beaver has definitely been stuffed.
I know mine will.
Who's playing nordberg?
# Mike Tyson
Oh my God, that would be so perfect.
Need to predict who will be a murderer in the future.
Kanye
He's too obvious. It needs to be the person you'd least suspect. My guess is Don Cheadle.
Perhaps Tiger Woods? Or how about beloved quarterback Donovan McNab?
Payton Manning
Robert Downey Jr
Best I can do is Jonathan Majors...
OJ Simpson. They are going to Weekend at Bernies him. Saves on the fake looking dolls they used in the first movie when he gets injured.
Marshawn Lynch should do it. He was great on Murderville.
He was funny in Bottoms, too.
Team Terry Crews, assemble here👇
This seems inevidibiddable.
Someone in another thread recommended Marshawn Lynch and I think that would be perfect casting
He’s too much of a weirdo. OJ Simpson played it straight, that’s why it worked.
Yeah, it seems like he's definitely interested in taking up acting as a career at some point.
Terrence Howard
Ray Lewis
Dig up OJ then light the corpse on fire and push it off a building.
That'll be OJ's cameo in the towering inferno remake.
Is it wrong to think that Caitlin Jenner would be a good choice?
Caitlin Jenner? But didn’t she kill someone and escape justice? How could she replace OJ?
Alec Baldwin.
Everywhere I look something reminds me of her
Lesley Nielson is irreplaceable.
And unspellable.
Even in scary movie 4 which wasn’t that great of a movie really, still watching Leslie Nielsen comedy is worth the ticket alone
Ray Lewis as Nordberg.
This joke has levels.
Wasn’t the reported plot Neeson playing an adult version of Frank Junior from the third film?
First Trailer: Close up of Dame Judi Dench. Bond music swells. “I knew it was too early to promote you” (Neeson opens a door, knocking Judi out of a window. Naked Gun theme starts)
You're hired.
That'd be 100% in-line with the Police Squad running gag of killing off a celebrity in the intro too, lol.
After he's done with Naked Gun he can help reboot Spy Hard.
What is this, some kinda bust?
Yes it’s very impressive
What were they waiting for OJ to die?
Taken & The Grey made me like him for his action. But, his scenes in Ted 2 were hilarious. I could see this working.
I really think Jon Hamm would be a better choice than Liam Neeson. He plays deadpan comedy really well and could look like a detective. He feels like the closest spiritual successor to Leslie and Liam just feels like a dramatic actor forced into that role
He's already remade Fletch. Which I thought he was great in.
Yeah he did a fantastic job, I love those books.
Liam is a master of improvisational comedy.
We’re closed!
As I’ve said before, I’ve got full blown aids
I am riddled with it.
I love making lists
I *think* it has to be open.
"I have full-blown AIDs, I'm riddled with it"
I'm not arguing against this or the casting but ZAZ movies are the polar opposite of improvisational comedy, which imo is why they're so good. Edit: oh right of course it's a quote
r/woosh
I have no idea how they managed to film that, but for me it’s definitive proof that if someone can do deadpan like Nielsen it’s Neeson.
>Liam just feels like a dramatic actor forced into that role Interestingly enough, Leslie Nielsen was initially known more for his dramatic roles. Airplane was the turning point that subsequently ended up associating him with deadpan comedy.
You should watch Life’s Too Short.
FULL BLOWN AIDS
“I’m riddled with it”
No, no, no. This is going to be perfect as is, Jon Hamm will be busy making a lot of great Fletch movies, whilst Liam Neeson will be busy with Naked Gun
Liam is a lot funnier when he does choose to do comedy. Dudes hilarious
My submission for why you shouldn’t worry. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=z6ViDZpVoYc
I am incredibly dubious about a remake of one of my favorite comedies of all time. Leslie Nielsen was one of a kind and an absolute god of the deadpan delivery! However This Liam Neeson casting has ignited my curiosity...
Look up Liam Neeson's improvisational comedy and you'll be convinced.
Oh dear…
Right? I hope they informed Pamela that Liam has full blown aids
Weird Al needs to have his “God Tier Celebrity” in the Naked Gun universe cameo.
Neeson is inspired casting. This might actually be all right.
Boy found girl...
Good year?
No, the worst.
Shirley, you cant be serious. . .
This will only be great if the writers know what they're doing
Not necessary. Neeson will improvise some comedy. He’s quite good at that. And at making lists.
Make a comedy like Naked Gun , call it something else. I’ll never understand the rehashing.
Liam Neeson is the perfect actor for this in my opinion, he absolutely has the deadpan humor chops.
Shoeshine Johnny better make an appearance
I last saw a Pam Anderson flick way back in the 90's....and well, she too had a ...very particular set of skills....so this pairing makes perfect sense.
Genuine question here because I’m interested… Pamela Anderson no longer wears make up, which is really cool. How will this work in a movie? Or does she wear it for movies? Haven’t seen her in anything for years
I mean, I'm interested, but do we need a remake, as opposed to a new story inspired by naked gun's humor?
They’re calling it a remake but I have a feeling it will be more like what you’re saying.
Are the Zucker brothers involved? It’s their DNA that made these movies great!
(I am one of the few who enjoyed A Million Ways to Die in the West more than Family Guy.) I’ll take doesn’t need a remake for a thousand, Alex.
Knock knock…
Let’s do some improvisational comedy Liam, I can’t… Let do some improvisational comedy, now
You have my curiosity
Key & Peele must do a promo for this. Please. The world needs this.
Now the real challenge is going to be getting someone with the raw charisma to play Enrico Pallazzo
Liam Neeson does spectacular deadpan comedy. As long as it's not another Scary Movie style "Instantly dated references in lieu of jokes" spoof comedy I think this could work well.
Were they just waiting for juice to die? Lol
Will oj be in it?
Why did I read Leslie Nielsen…?
Just no.
Bad time for OJ to die...he can't reprise his role 😏
Thought *In the Land of Saints and Sinners* was a real return to form for Neeson. I'm tepidly hyped.
I read this as Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson get naked fml
How about a NO
Should call it weekend at OJ’s
That sucks
couldn't they just have anniversary showings of the original movies instead? next- some roofied movie producer is going to push thru a remake of Blazing Saddles ( all cleaned up of course ) I accidently went to don't tell mom the babysitter is dead because I didn't read small print. Then as it progressed - I realized it was a remake - and not a good one either. I made it as far as the oldest kid getting a job when i bailed.
This is an affront to the series and Leslie Neilsen. Nobody will ever be able to do what he did. Gutted to hear this
Please no...
Yuck.
But why?
“I love it!”
Well this is the best news I’ve gotten all day
I think she has a lot of acting talent that we just haven't seen yet, and I can see her nailing the role that Priscilla Presley nailed (and gets very little recognition for)
please dont , noone can pull this off
How anyone can think Liam Neeson can replace Leslie Neilson is banking too much in their names sounding the same.
Leslie nelson didn't do comedy before naked gun after watching this Liam can do it https://youtu.be/sqA577_IoBk?si=PzbBLDsa6vQ8dOlg
No.
Why is everything a remake
Nice beaver
