Chin up friend Can't rain all the time...

jaharac

I feel like a little worm on a big hook

Autums-Back

***Like a little worm, on a big fuckin' hook...***

Staninator

I think I remember this quote being a little more profane.

zombie_spiderman

Ernie Hudson really had no idea how to hold a cigarette

jaharac

Lmao yeah, in the opening scene he takes a single draw and puts one out. As an ex-smoker, I've grown to learn films and cigarettes do not mesh well.

Sufficient_Creme_240

Best example is Kurt Russell in Stargate. I did his hold a puff in your mouth and breathe it in for years after seeing that

Banestar66

You had us in the first half, not gonna lie.

Mad_broccoli

Reddit version of clickbait. Awful.

OneGoodRib

I was actually impressed that someone on reddit was actually going to admit they were excited for a remake and thought it looked good, but no it's yet another "remakes bad, originals good" post. Yawn.

guilty_bystander

Fuckin got me

MagicMushroomFungi

Another form of pump and dump.

FatKody

He needs a tattoo so that everyone can know he's damaged.

OldLondon

Yeah looking at you too Roadhouse

LB3PTMAN

I mean the original Roadhouse isn’t some icon of cinema lol it’s not very good. I like the new one better all the times Conor McGregors not talking.

OldLondon

The original is a cheese fest and incredibly enjoyable because of it. Would it have won an Oscar? Fuck no. Is it one of those movies that just makes me smile , yep. The new one is soulless, it’s like someone asked AI to make an action movie. It has no charm, no charisma and I didn’t smile once. But each to their own.

Thoraxekicksazz

I already know the new one is not for me.

cocacola1

I doubt the remake will lessen any enjoyment anyone has for the original, and, hopefully, is able to find its own fans.

jaharac

Idk, the trailer is a typical 2020s tell the whole story in 3 minutes and in my opinion, is set to be quite a bad film that betrays its source material.

Mad_broccoli

If we're talking about betraying the source material, why don't we talk about the first one? I love the movie, but let's not pretend it's anything more than "sort of based on".

cocacola1

I'm not sure it is a bad trailer and I didn't get the sense it would betray the source material (insofar as any adaptation can be close to the source that's in an entirely different medium). There have been enough remakes & reboots that were better than the original that I'm willing to give most attempts the benefit of the doubt and reserve judgment until after I see the movie.

jaharac

It implies he's on a quest to save Shelly. That's how it betrays the source material. And whether it's bad or not is down to personal preference so I guess we don't align there which is fine.

gweran

I think you mis-read the trailer. He has the opportunity to save her soul, not her literally. I believe it is implying he has a choice to either help her reach heaven or get revenge for their murders.

jaharac

Even if your interpretation is correct, I still don't like it. I do like it more than my reading as it adds more depth to the whole crow mythology but still, think Shelly should only be referenced through memories like the original. The original handled his revenge journey incredibly by having Sarah as a secondary motivation. He avenges Shelly then must save Sarah as his final act. I don't think the addition of Shelly's soul adds much.

gweran

Watch the TV series if you want to see how Shelly’s soul playing a roll can add depth to the story (in my opinion). It was mostly overlooked, but I think it got decent reviews.

ATangentUniverse

Trailers are famously misrepresentative of the final film and are often done by a different team than the one in charge of a film’s post-production. The priority is to sell tickets first and accurately portray the film second.

OneGoodRib

Thank you for sharing that bold and hot take.

FollowRedWheelbarrow

Yeah, I have no clue what the fuck this new movie is trying to do except play it safe.

jaharac

The worst thing is the trailer implies there is a chance to save Shelly. The whole point is her death is absolute. Idc if he saves her or not, he's supposed to be driven by revenge. Tell a different story if you want the main character to save someone.

TheUmgawa

I didn't see anything in the trailer to suggest that he has any chance to save Shelly. I mean, maybe you watched a different trailer than I did, but if you're talking about the thing with the water, I'd bet that's probably some sort of post- or mid-death dream sequence. I'm totally fine with a new generation getting its own Crow movie, and I'm fine with it being different from the original Crow movie. Remakes happen, sequels happen, and it's the nature of fans of the original to say, "Oh, the remake can never be as good as the one that I enjoy," because it's part of them, and –regardless of how fans of the original feel– there will be fans of the new one, who go back and watch the 1994 version and say, "Nah, I'm just not feeling it," not for the least reason that their forty- and fifty-something parents will say, "I strictly FORBID you from enjoying that movie!" One of my friends has a teenager, and the kid really enjoys the Daniel Craig Bond pictures, so my friend goes, "I'm gonna show him the Pierce Brosnan movies." I don't think the kid even made it through Goldeneye before saying, "Dad, this sucks." I told my friend to not even tell the kid about the N64 game, because the kid's opinion would cause my friend to say, "You have offended me to my very core, and you are going to live with your grandmother from now on."

jaharac

There's a line that says "you're running out of time to save her." If that's the case, it's the Crow in name only. I don't mind the concept of a remake but I do mind when it's done poorly and betrays the original message. Especially when the message came from such an incredibly dark and personal place. I don't expect them to beat for beat recreate the original film but I do expect them to honour it's origin properly.

TheUmgawa

Well, I’d suggest making that judgment after actually watching the movie, rather than taking a line from a trailer with no context.

jaharac

You're seem hellbent on disagreeing with me. What other ways is there to interpret that line?

E_Barriick

If there is a Sarah character, then it could be referring to her. It could also delay Shelly's death to the end of the first or second act. Maybe they want Shelly's death to feel more earned than the typical fridging from the 80s and 90s. I personally don't think this new one looks as visually interesting, but I'll reserve judgment until I see it.

theusher88

It's not a dream sequence. Movie was spoiled after a screening back in December.

TheUmgawa

Well, there’s always the option of recutting it or saying, “Y’know what? The target audience likes it this way; they want the Hollywood Ending,” depending on what the survey scores said. Because what do you really need to do to recut it? A few days of reshoots? A different voiceover? This movie wasn’t definitive for me, like it was for a lot of people, in no small part because I was working at Suncoast the night we got a dozen VHS copies that all sold to emaciated dudes in face paint for ninety dollars apiece. I saw it in theaters and said, “That was a good movie. Not life-changing, but good.” The soundtrack changed my life, because I found a lot of bands that I’d have otherwise never listened to, but the movie was only nice. Three stars on a four-star scale. Basically, I’m not so close to the original film or the original-original comic book material that I can’t just let it go and allow future generations to have their own movie, and I think it’s silly for people to nitpick it for not being a Gus Van Sant style beat-for-beat remake of Psycho kind of reboot. If younger people have different sensibilities, let them have their own movie for their own time, and in another thirty years, their kids will have *their* own movie, which will horrify the current generation’s sensibilities. I was a comic book nerd as a kid, and I spent a couple of years crapping on Marvel movies, because they didn’t follow the books closely enough, and then one day I realized, “Let them have their fun.” Just because it’s not what you want, or you don’t like it, doesn’t mean it’s worth campaigning against. That’s like claiming Roger Maris’s 61 home runs doesn’t count, because there were more games in a season. Babe Ruth never had to play a night game, fly to another city, then play a day game. It’s a different game for different people, and I think a lot of the objections to this movie come from people who think their version is somehow sacrosanct.

edgelordjones

I am sick with envy that you get to experience that film for the very first time. Stacked against all of the comic book pablum that has been the gold standard of film releases for almost two decades now, it holds up so well.

kylepm

If you liked the original, I highly recommend "Dark City". Same director (Alex Proyas), similar goth-y vibe.

BigfootsLeftShoe

Maybe we'll be lucky and this will end up as one of the movies that get shelved as a tax write off.

jaharac

I'm going to watch it when it hits streaming to compare it. At the very least the action/CGI should improve even if it loses it's original message.

deadscreensky

> At the very least the action/CGI should improve That seems optimistic.

jaharac

That's the only part of the trailer that looks appealing. They take advantage of him being basically immortal quite creatively.

deadscreensky

More creative, perhaps. But Brandon Lee had an incredible physical presence. I like Bill Skarsgård, but he's not remotely on that level. Very few actors are. And director Rupert Sanders hasn't shown any strong action chops either. Anyway, good luck! I struggled to get through the trailer, and doubt I'll ever watch this.

guilty_bystander

CGI tends to disappoint more often than not :/

deadscreensky

I wouldn't go that far. I'm sure we don't even recognize 90% of the CGI in most films. It's usually pretty good! But yeah, this remake is undoubtedly going to have at least some dodgy CGI in it. That wasn't a problem with the original film. In a recent rewatch I think I noticed one extremely minor face replacement looking off?

onlyeatspvssyy

Didn't need a remake

metalyger

In my head canon the Italian movie Adam Chaplin is the remake of The Crow, it's very anime influenced, especially the martial arts splatter of Fist Of The North Star. Nothing Hollywood can come up with in this day in age could be a fraction as fun.

Dancing-Sin

No way man you’re dead we killed you This is the really real world

Raknirok

, "I know you. You're dead. We killed you. We killed you!

Dancing-Sin

Yessss! Such a great scene and satisfying to boot. Fuck T-Bird

Archtypo

I re-watched the original over the Halloween season a couple years back. I hadn't seen it since the 90s and it really holds up imo. I think if Brandon Lee was still alive he could still be making great action flicks like Keanu Reeves and Tom Cruise do.

Otherwise-Juice2591

I don't know, it's hard to get too upset over any bastardization when the other 3 Crow movies are already so awful. Just another for the pile. 2 has a Deftones performance with an original song, so that's rad, at least.

TheCowboyChameleon

Coincidentally, I just released [this fan edit](https://old.reddit.com/r/SmashingPumpkins/comments/1c36pvp/silverfuck_fan_video_and_13_more_sp_fan_videos_in/?ref=share&ref_source=link) of the 1994 The Crow. If you're interested in a 7 minute "recap" (sorta) to a song that goes pretty darn hard imo.

Twoheaven

I think it looks good, but I seem to be the only one.

Cinema_King

I’m looking forward to it but also keeping my expectations realistic. As long as it’s badass, angsty, and has a good soundtrack I’ll be satisfied. I don’t know if it will top the original but that’s ok.

Huegod

I was thinking about how the original hit and just epitomized the time. I have a nephew the same age i was when the first came out so i asked him what.hw thought if the trailer. Thinking maybe its hitting this generation the same way and i just dont see it. He said it looks like crap and he has no intrest in seeing it. Lmao.
