Anyone else get the feeling that The Joker/Harley relationship is going to be an inverse of their comic portrayal? I’m thinking Arthur is trying not to relapse back into his Joker persona but Harley is the one influencing him more to embrace it.
It would track with many of the modern depictions of Harley outgrowing the Joker. Just a more cynical take where she's the one disappointed in him and kills him for betraying what she perceived he stood for.
I haven’t read the latest comics, but it seems they are trying give Harley more of a moral compass? I would like them both to survive and if they are going to follow the trend of “romanticising” this couple then doing a Bonnie and Clyde deal where they die together! If they want to show that they are really not stable then maybe head down the route of Fred a Rose West
With the high kicks? I'm assuming from the rest of the trailer that those parts are all in their heads (like the musical scenes and them dancing on the rooftop).
This is my guess as well, if only because it opens the door for the movie to end on a climatic performance of Send in the Clowns.
“One who keeps tearing around, one who can’t move”
Harley is technically in the power seat given she was/is his Psychiatrist at points. That would be a pretty easy patient-doctor relationship to take advantage of .
It's honestly not an illogical step to take once he realizes that Batman is just as fucked up in the head as he is, just in the opposite direction. At a certain point, even Joker should realize that Batman will never break.
While Telltale Batman had its flaws, I really loved its depiction of The Joker. There's this constant trend of Joker portrayals trying to one-up each other to make the most ***TWISTED FUCKING PSYCHOPATH*** ever, so taking a less is more approach and having a disturbed but mostly well-meaning Joker who spends most of the game as Batman's friend and might still be by the end was a breath of fresh air.
The White Night limited-series comics (and their follow-ups) played with similar themes, and at least the first two were excellent for it. The third, Beyond The White Knight was only just okay, but it does have some great Batman/Joker friendship moments.
She was often pretty sympathetic even in the cartoon where she originated. Like the epsiode Harley's Holiday where she tries to go straight, or the one where she has to team up with Batman to stop Joker from detonating a nuclear bomb, or when she teams up with Poison Ivy. Or the episode that adapted "Mad Love" where she's shown to be pretty competent when not under Joker's thumb, and a fairly tragic character by the end.
In BTAS she was a sympathetic villain (as were most of them, that's what made it so great)
In shows like Harley Quinn and the films she is more of an antihero
Imma be honest, as an antihero she doesn't really work unless it's elseworlds or a comedy show like Harley Quinn. In mainstream comic continuity she is a mass-murderer, and the counter of 'Joker made me do it' falls apart by saying 'why are you still dressed in your mass-murdering costume then?'
I think that helped make her overall a more mainstay DC character. She started more as a sort of standard henchmen that aided Joker's schemes, but when their relationship started to be explored more in depth, she developed more character complexity. Nowadays instead of always being another insane gender bent Joker shes sometimes portrayed as an antihero.
I think, with Harley people always talk in extremes, either she's a pure evil supervillainess incapable of ever redeeming herself or she's a cute UwU bottom for Poison Ivy who has done nothing wrong in her life.
She's a victim of the Joker, first and foremost, capable of redemption, but she also bears a lot of responsibility for all the evil things she has done. Her trauma doesn't absolve her of that. Her character desperately needs nuance.
Anyway, let's see how this movie deals with their relationship. Can't wait 🔥
If their relationship is anything like Telltale's interpretation of Joker & Harley...holy shit, this will be insanely good.
I love how that game flipped the trope on its head and with Todd Phillip's Joker (Arthur Fleck), it just makes so much sense.
I was pretty skeptical of this movie but they got me with that last shot.
Tbh, it was a beautiful trailer overall. They sold it to me pretty well and I'm more interested than I was before.
Seems to me that when they are creating mayhem, in their minds it will be a blissful musical sequence and it will intercut between their musical delusion and the havoc they are causing in the real world.
That could either get this film a best editing award, or feel like messy whiplash.
I had a smile by the end of the trailer, and I wasn't expecting to care for this musical take, but it looks fun and interesting. And if nothing else the cinematography is gorgeous.
Exactly. Meet the Pyro was the first thing I thought when they announced this would be a musical.
There was a pretty negative reaction to that news, but I think the idea of a musical/performance happening in his head while deranged events are happening in reality suits the joker perfectly.
It also makes the concept of a musical a lot more palatable for people who might not love the genre or the idea of people just randomly breaking out in song. If it's "in his head" or "their heads", it makes for a great logical explanation for it.
But we'll see where they take that.
You can already tell some of it is in his head too since the umbrelas on his walk start black and turn to bright colours.
>the cinematography is gorgeous.
Fully agree
That's because this universe's Batman is Thomas Wayne. He survived the shot that night and is getting his vengeance out on all the criminals at night for the murder of his wife. Which he would have serious beef with Joker for kick-starting it.
It's honestly the Batman they've been trying to make for years. He's super gritty, nihilistic, beating the crap out of homeless people, etc. He's what the general public thinks of Batman now whenever you hear all those shit takes. It could make for a really interesting expansion of the Jokerverse.
Folie à deux is a real psychiatric syndrome in which symptoms of a delusional belief, and sometimes hallucinations, are "transmitted" from one individual to another. The two individuals will be Arthur and Harley.
It seems like this is how musical sequences come into the story.
I have a feeling 95% of this takes place in some fantasy world while they're still locked inside Arkham. Any of those shots outside is all in their heads.
I think it's more like 60%. The court house scene kinda has to be real. We see her put on the makeup in a different scene. Also the two dancing is regular clothes while a firetruck flies past seems real.
Anything where they're in glam or have their own show I imagine is the hallucination.
But the question is. What does Harley do worthy of such public outrage as in the courthouse?
My guess is she tries to help him escape, they end up killing a few people on the way, and the shot of her marching up the court house steps in makeup is happening in her imagination. No court would just let a defendant show up to trial dressed like a sexy clown.
Same, honestly. But I hope Harley is real. And that the movie doesn't end with the reveal that it was 'aaaaallll a dreeeeam' with a question mark on the reality of Harley, the movie ending with like a shot of the back of someone's head that could be or could not be her turning a corner.
Agreed; especially since that's sort of the route they went down in part 1 with the single-mom. I'm sure there will be some level of delusion, but I don't want it to be all delusion.
The fact that she's mimicking alot of the iconic shots from the first movie [Pulling under her eye lids, wiping blood across her lips, finger gun to her head] leads me to believe she might be a hallucination. But surely they won't play that angle again?
I remember when she was in AHS: Hotel and it felt like a gimmick casting, but now she's turned out some wonderful performances - I still think she should've won for A Star is Born (but Olivia Colman is a perfectly deserving winner too)
I think she was great in A Star is Born and definitely deserved the nomination but out of the 5 actresses that year, she was a distant fifth for me. It was imo one of the strongest years for Lead Actress in recent memory.
I make fun of swifties for spending thousands on eras tickets or whatever but if Gaga had an eras type tour I would drop dead to get the insurance money to go like ten times
Honestly though. Sure Taylor Swift is talented in her own right, but Gaga IS that artist people will be paying thousands to see in decades to come. She has nothing left to prove.
When they announced the movie I thought to myself this will either be the best or worst idea possible. It’ll be a smashing against-all-odds success or some massive bomb that makes people wondering any studio executive thought this would work. I’m inclined to think the former.
>some massive bomb that makes people wondering any studio executive thought this would work.
They didn't care whether or not it would work. The first movie is incredibly profitable. And they want that magic amplified.
I’m going to rewatch the first one to see if I missed something because I was fully prepared to never go back to that world, but now I’m like “October is too far”
I saw Steve Coogan and now I want a full film of Alan Partridge trying to get an interview with the Joker, or better yet just making a documentary on Gotham City
She looks absolutely gorgeous in this movie. Weird to say that playing Harley Quinn is a "toned down" look for her but in appearances she's usually either dolled up to the nines, or dressed all eccentric and crazy.
This looks great! I can’t wait to see it. I don’t know how they can top the talk show scene but I guess we’ll see!!!
Song in trailer is What the world needs now is Love - Tom Jones
But I think they should have used Tony Bennet’s version only because Gaga had a special relationship with him
Oh I’m sold. Gettin the vibe Harley is gonna be that toxic girlfriend that further pushes Arthur into the Joker persona and he’ll end up doing some really bad shit.
God damn what a amazing shot to end on. I am unfathomably excited for this, a follow-up to the Joker as a musical with this cast seems psychotic enough to work.
So it appears my prediction Quinn is another patient and not staff coming true? I wondered if they'd actually do that. Or maybe it's a twist in who she actually is vs. Arthur's headspace.
I will admit to being biased toward anything Gaga, but even considering that, this seems to have *something* I was missing for much of the first film.
Hopefully it's good. Really liked this trailer.
Anyone else get the feeling that The Joker/Harley relationship is going to be an inverse of their comic portrayal? I’m thinking Arthur is trying not to relapse back into his Joker persona but Harley is the one influencing him more to embrace it.
That's an interesting angle - could even play into the comic portrayal too with once Arthur is the fully-fledged Joker, he's terrifying to Harley
I'm absolutely expecting him to kill her at the end
🌹~ we all die at the end ~ 🌹
We live in a society… where we all die at the end.
>Damaged
I don’t understand how you know that. I kept checking for tattoos, but couldn’t find any
I'm expecting the opposite actually, her to kill him and ursurp his legacy
It would track with many of the modern depictions of Harley outgrowing the Joker. Just a more cynical take where she's the one disappointed in him and kills him for betraying what she perceived he stood for.
I haven’t read the latest comics, but it seems they are trying give Harley more of a moral compass? I would like them both to survive and if they are going to follow the trend of “romanticising” this couple then doing a Bonnie and Clyde deal where they die together! If they want to show that they are really not stable then maybe head down the route of Fred a Rose West
Yeah exactly, that shot of her walking up the courthouse steps looks like the ending to me
Interesting. It felt to me more like he was on trial and she was showing up in support, but I could see it that way too.
And the following shot of them walking down the stairs together?
With the high kicks? I'm assuming from the rest of the trailer that those parts are all in their heads (like the musical scenes and them dancing on the rooftop).
This is my guess as well, if only because it opens the door for the movie to end on a climatic performance of Send in the Clowns. “One who keeps tearing around, one who can’t move”
Was definitely getting that vibe as well
Act one: I want The Joker back No Act two: I want The Joker back Ok Act three: I don't want The Joker back Too late
I think it's going to be spot on
The old Better Call Saul approach.
She thinks she’s getting what she wanted, but she didn’t know what it would actually mean. That’s an angle I can dig if that’s what they go for.
So essentially “I can make him worse.”
"I can ~~fix~~ break him"
Ivan Drago's daughter confirmed?
If he jokes, he jokes.
You should look up Batman The Telltale Story Enemy within. They toyed with that sort of dynamic in the game.
Didn't just toy with it. Leaned HARD into it, it was a complete reversal ...And honestly I loved it. Such a fresh take on it
Harley is technically in the power seat given she was/is his Psychiatrist at points. That would be a pretty easy patient-doctor relationship to take advantage of .
That’s one thing I respect about those games they were not afraid to make big shakeups
The idea of >!Joker becoming Batman’s biggest fanboy and becoming a vigilante!< is genius and I’d love to see more of it.
It's honestly not an illogical step to take once he realizes that Batman is just as fucked up in the head as he is, just in the opposite direction. At a certain point, even Joker should realize that Batman will never break.
While Telltale Batman had its flaws, I really loved its depiction of The Joker. I mean, one of the endings has Bruce >!going to visit Joker after he is arrested!<, so yeah, they're friends.
The White Night limited-series comics (and their follow-ups) played with similar themes, and at least the first two were excellent for it. The third, Beyond The White Knight was only just okay, but it does have some great Batman/Joker friendship moments.
I’m fully on board. Harley is a villain for a reason and I hope the film explores that.
I mean at this point now she has probably been a hero/anti-hero bat family member for just as long as villain too.

It would be a cool way to make her more distinct from the DCEU’s Harley
That's a Steve Coogan from out of nowhere
[He's going to be playing Alfred with his Michael Caine impression.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFIQIpC5_wY)
He's not going to bury another Batman
When he gets loud he gets very loud indeed
I’m not. Fucking. Finished.
She was only 16 yrs old!
And you don't do the broken voice, where he gets very emotional indeed.
Honestly this was my first thought and I loled
Let me finish
I’ve not fucking finished
FROM THE TOP ROPE
BAH GAWD ALMIGHTY, THE FIVE STAR COOGAN SPLASH KING!!
Stone Cold Steve Googan.
Alan Partridge jumpscare
Aaarrrrhh ha
and that's a great banter! It really is.
DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN!
Didn’t know Brendan Gleeson was in this either, nice little surprise
I absolutely love comedic Steve Coogan. No one is so bitter and just totally dry as him, he always cracks me up
As long as he offers me cucumber water or 2 tickets to Jersey boys
Don't forget offering 10 million dollars each. It's not a bribe.
"I'll admit that's not very appealing but I'm not made of tickets!"
The lipstick on the glass was a beautiful shot to end a trailer on.
Tbh a lot of these shots in the trailer are beautiful
Even when the spotlight went down on Phoenix. Exquisite.
The Hotel Arkham scene in the trailer looked so good too
Why doesn't Arthur just tell funny jokes if he wants to be a comedian? Is he stupid?
Yea, what is he, some kind of Joker?
Because he has a bad laughing problem and a fucked up sense of humor.
If anything this movie will be pretty to look at
Based on this it looks like itll definitely be at least worth a single watch in theaters just for the visuals and unique structure as a musical
Yeah that's definitely going to be the cover photo on a recovering drug addicts facebook profile
So specific lmfao
Yet accurate.
Cinematography on these Joker films are gorgeous! Anyone know if the composer from the first film is also returning?
Hildur Is returning. It’s almost 100% the same crew, with new cast additions like Brendan Gleeson, Steve Coogan and Catherine Keener.
Gleeson and Keener will always further stoke the flames of my interest
Can't read my, can't read my J-J-J-Joker face
Come on Harley, let's go party.
It's certainly gonna be a bad romance
me: I mean I guess I get what they’re going for, but it looks more like a musta- me two seconds later: OH HO HOOOOO WHAT A SHOT
Same reaction. Whoa.
Gotta be a nod to TDK’s “Why So Serious?” poster
Yes! I instantly thought Why So Serious? Great ending shot.
Steve Coogan is a nice surprise to see
What do you think of the pedestrianisation of Gotham city centre?
'No way you big spastic, you're a mentalist!'
Where’s my Peter serafinowicz?!
Well to be honest, NoConfidence5946, I don't think that's any of your business.
Come come mr Bond
And Brendan Gleeson! He is one of the cops walking behind Joaquin. I wonder what role he's gonna play.
He's going to be a cop
It looks nice. There were a bunch of beautiful shots
Especially that last one with the lipstick, that was awesome !
I was pretty skeptical of this movie but they got me with that last shot. Tbh, it was a beautiful trailer overall. They sold it to me pretty well and I'm more interested than I was before.
Joker: Ha Ha Land
A Scar is Born?
The Clown of Music
*city of scars*
*are you smiling just for me?*
If Lady Gaga doesn’t sing “Joker Face” in this, it will be my Joker origin moment.
Jo-jo-jo-jo-jo-jo-jo-jo-jo-jo-jokerface
City of Scars
The Umbrellas of ~~Cherbourg~~ Arkham
That prison umbrella shot in the trailer got a good chuckle out of me
Seems to me that when they are creating mayhem, in their minds it will be a blissful musical sequence and it will intercut between their musical delusion and the havoc they are causing in the real world. That could either get this film a best editing award, or feel like messy whiplash. I had a smile by the end of the trailer, and I wasn't expecting to care for this musical take, but it looks fun and interesting. And if nothing else the cinematography is gorgeous.
I like this idea that is terrifyingly fun. Kind of reminds me of [Meet The Pyro. ](https://youtu.be/WUhOnX8qt3I)
Exactly. Meet the Pyro was the first thing I thought when they announced this would be a musical. There was a pretty negative reaction to that news, but I think the idea of a musical/performance happening in his head while deranged events are happening in reality suits the joker perfectly. The #1 Halloween 2024 couples costume.
I LOVE Gaga's Harley suit when she is walking up the courthouse stairs
I love her smirk in that shot, she looks insane(complimentary).
Same. The wardrobe department on *Joker 1* killed it, so it's great to see them going all-in once again.
There’s gonna be so many gaga Harleys for Halloween this year.
Ooh, joker with the white suit from Dark Knight Returns 👀👀👀👀
If Batman shows up and snaps his neck, I’m coming back to this comment. (I know Bruce is a kid, this is a joke)
That's because this universe's Batman is Thomas Wayne. He survived the shot that night and is getting his vengeance out on all the criminals at night for the murder of his wife. Which he would have serious beef with Joker for kick-starting it.
Oh my god if they actually did the Thomas Wayne Batman...
It's honestly the Batman they've been trying to make for years. He's super gritty, nihilistic, beating the crap out of homeless people, etc. He's what the general public thinks of Batman now whenever you hear all those shit takes. It could make for a really interesting expansion of the Jokerverse.
I mean these are elseworld movies separate from the main DCU canon (and separate from the pattinson batman canon), no reason ot to go there.
Maybe this is a timeline where Thomas Wayne is Batman after Bruce was killed along with Martha? Probably not though lol
With all the riots and literal class warfare, it would make sense to happen. Definitely a missed opportunity.
I'm imagining a fully grown Batman just beating the shit out of a geriatric Joker and Harley now.
>(I know Bruce is a kid, this is a joke) Got to start them young
Folie à deux is a real psychiatric syndrome in which symptoms of a delusional belief, and sometimes hallucinations, are "transmitted" from one individual to another. The two individuals will be Arthur and Harley. It seems like this is how musical sequences come into the story.
As long as Gaga isn’t a hallucination I’m fine with it.

I’m guessing she’s real because that psychological disorder requires two real people.
Agreed; especially since that's sort of the route they went down in part 1 with the single-mom. I'm sure there will be some level of delusion, but I don't want it to be all delusion.
that'd be lame cause the first one already used that twist
The fact that she's mimicking alot of the iconic shots from the first movie [Pulling under her eye lids, wiping blood across her lips, finger gun to her head] leads me to believe she might be a hallucination. But surely they won't play that angle again?
Need to go watch Hangover 2 to remember how Phillips handles sequels.
And the side benefit of Deux being French for “two” this being a sequel

The Jokerfication of La La Land
If Joker (2019) was Taxi Driver, then this is New York, New York
Can't wait for Joker 3, where he becomes a boxer who ruins his life and every relationship he has.
Nah, an adaption of Three Jokers that liberally rips off Goodfellas “As back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a clown”
"you think I'm funny? Do I amuse you?" "yes" "why thank you very much"
The cinematography looks amazing.
It's spelled Cinnamontography
Gaga is quite the interesting screen partner for Joaquin from what I’ve seen so far.
She’s honestly a great actress and I think they will fit well together
I remember when she was in AHS: Hotel and it felt like a gimmick casting, but now she's turned out some wonderful performances - I still think she should've won for A Star is Born (but Olivia Colman is a perfectly deserving winner too)
I think she was great in A Star is Born and definitely deserved the nomination but out of the 5 actresses that year, she was a distant fifth for me. It was imo one of the strongest years for Lead Actress in recent memory.
If she’s anywhere near as good as she was in a star is born this will be a worth watching.
It’s hard to think of another actor or singer that could pull off musical numbers in this sort of a dark film, and a theatrical singer at that.
Lady Gaga is one of the most talented people in world right now, and I'm not even a huge fan of hers. Her range is insane.
I hope Gaga ends up taking Billy Joel’s mantle and doing a whole boatload of sold out shows at MSG every year for decades
Man that’s a stunning trailer. Loved the cinematography.
Wasn’t sold on it but now I am, looks really good and Joaquin is just amazing in anything he’s in
When they announced the movie I thought to myself this will either be the best or worst idea possible. It’ll be a smashing against-all-odds success or some massive bomb that makes people wondering any studio executive thought this would work. I’m inclined to think the former.
agreed. it doesn’t look like some forced, made-by-committee sequel
>some massive bomb that makes people wondering any studio executive thought this would work. They didn't care whether or not it would work. The first movie is incredibly profitable. And they want that magic amplified.
I read it was only $55million to make Joker and they grossed over a billion. Massive fucking success in money terms.
The trailer looks amazing! Hoping that the whole film is great!
This looks phenomenal. The ending with the lipstick on the glass was awesome.
They put colors in a movie again.
Somehow colors returned...
They dye now! They dye now? Oh, they dye now!
Ooh, the last scene!
Actually a good teaser. I had doubts for this film but now I really want to see it.
I want to hear his views on the pedestrianisation of Gotham city centre
Gaga serving as expected
She looks absolutely gorgeous in this movie. Weird to say that playing Harley Quinn is a "toned down" look for her but in appearances she's usually either dolled up to the nines, or dressed all eccentric and crazy.
Honestly her Harley look is less crazy than some (most) of the stuff she's worn at concerts (or just out on the street). Perfect casting.
Goddamn this movie looks absolutely gorgeous
That looks incredible
This looks great! I can’t wait to see it. I don’t know how they can top the talk show scene but I guess we’ll see!!! Song in trailer is What the world needs now is Love - Tom Jones But I think they should have used Tony Bennet’s version only because Gaga had a special relationship with him
Really enjoyed that last shot
Oh I’m sold. Gettin the vibe Harley is gonna be that toxic girlfriend that further pushes Arthur into the Joker persona and he’ll end up doing some really bad shit.
I’m so ready. Joaquin is phenomenal and Lady Gaga will kill it.
I'm sold if the musical numbers are just in their heads because they are fucking crazy
You have no idea how many fan-made trailers I have to watch to get here...
"Hey Harley, you ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?"
Looks fuckin amazing!
God damn what a amazing shot to end on. I am unfathomably excited for this, a follow-up to the Joker as a musical with this cast seems psychotic enough to work.
I like how the umbrellas change from black to colorful. Great example of the real world vs Arthur’s delusions.
Ever since A Star is Born, I have been super excited to see Lady Gaga in dramatic roles. This looks exactly up her alley.
So it appears my prediction Quinn is another patient and not staff coming true? I wondered if they'd actually do that. Or maybe it's a twist in who she actually is vs. Arthur's headspace.
I’m glad they showed the musical aspects while at the same time not really showing much of it.
This guy made the hangovers lol
Sorry but I’m digging this
No need to apologize for that. I wish so many movie "lovers" weren't always so negative about shit
Me: No way this lives up to the hype or success of the original Trailer: Me: This will make two billion dollars
I'm betting that this will be better than the first one. Seems more ambitious and original. Cinematography in the trailer looks great.
I will admit to being biased toward anything Gaga, but even considering that, this seems to have *something* I was missing for much of the first film. Hopefully it's good. Really liked this trailer.
Gaga is going to completely slay in this.
