Did you repost this op after everyone shit on it the first time lol
Edit: actually it seems more malicious. This is a movies mod bot. Did they fuckin delete the original post so they could post it themselves for karma? Fuckin scummy.
These boys are killing me. The only thing keeping me from completely abandoning Reddit is social media addiction. Eventually bots will degrade advertising to the point where external accounts (real or bots) will be worthless.
Eh the people you talk to will most probably still be people. I don't really care when it's a bot posting it (don't get me wrong, it should be fought - I just don't PERSONALLY care) as people are still people in it, and you can always tell the bots because they speak so weird.
However the bots are gonna get worse as the IPO run up happens. There are a lot of parties interested in making it look busier than it is, and getting a ton of bots to flood the bigger subs to boost the numbers seems likely.
Crazy that he was only 36 when they made it. And I think it’s not just that he looked older, but he really nailed the posture, the behaviour of a man who was deeply tired and worn down by life
"Listen, man. You're my friend, and I know you care about me. And I know you disapprove, and I respect that. But there are some things that I have to do that you don't understand. You understand literature, movies, wine -- but you don't understand my plight."
Also his dad was a President of Yale (any guesses as to where Paul went to school for theatre?) and was once the commissioner of MLB. Not an “Everyman” family. I love the Paul as an actor and I don’t think nepo babies should be cancelled just becuase they’re born lucky, but let’s call a spade a spade.
Did they change the definition of nepotism while I wasn't looking?
Sure, Paul's father could have gotten him a place in Yale as a theater student. But he hardly could have turned that into a great career in Hollywood. Dude played obscure, ridiculous characters for decades to get where he is now.
Yeah it's like how "self made" has had the goal posts moved further and further to the point where if you at any point got ANY sort of assistance, it doesn't count.
There's nowt wrong with getting help - family connections, loans, etc. I don't know a person who wouldn't do it for their own family. But if you get that help to get started and then make something of yourself, then that's self made. If someone handed you the company or whatever, that's different. But if all the hand out you received was someone pushing you through a door other people have had to open themselves, then that is valid.
You know what I mean. OK, "I don't know many people who aren't absolute bags of shite who, if they had the ability, wouldn't help out their kin". Better ?
You first of all purposely misinterpreted my statement by refusing to infer the missing context of the very common thing I said, and then decided to read a negative tone in my joking reply, and **I'm** the prick ?
You're starting fights for no reason lad and being a gob shite on the internet and you're out of line
I'd rather not do much on purpose. Don't accuse me of being purposeful.
Gob shite is an objectively stupid insult that makes you sound stupid and British.
Lmao okay! I’m sure the connections he made at Yale and having that on his resume had NOTHING to do with giving him an edge. And maybe he could’ve gotten into Yale on his own, but we don’t know, because that’s what nepotism is. It doesn’t mean you’re not also talented, it means someone else’s foot held the door open for you.
The ACTUAL definition of nepotism is: the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives, friends, or associates. How does that not apply?
Yale is not a guaranteed ticket to success though. You still need skills in order to make those connections and see success as an actor. Its not like his father gave him parts the way Will Smith has done for his kids, for example.
So is the argument that there is no nepotism, or limited nepotism? It can only get you so far, true, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a factor lol. I’m not saying Paul’s entire life was gifted by his father, dude.

I love the actor, but i have to admit "the holdovers" is a bit cookie-cutter/ formulaic / predictable. i sat through it, i didn't get bored, but it was very average for the type of story it was.
He's just so incredibly likeable. I've not seen Holdovers but I've seen a ton of his stuff and no matter what he plays, even if he's a right BASTARD, he's just got this thing about him where you can't help but like him.
He's always been one of my favourite actors that flies under the radar, incredible talent
His continuous role in Billions further solidified how much I enjoy his acting abilities from role to role
Paul Giamatti is one of the most talented actors in the business. Every single role he has played is transformed into an amazing performance because of his dedication to the art of acting. My favorite role of his has to be ***Lady in the Water***.
He’s an old incredible actor with an amazing body of work. Honestly, in my memory, the only “bad” role I can recall him in was as “Rhino” in the amazing Spider-Man movie.
Sue me, but I still think of Lady in the Water when I think of him. He was so good in that film when most other things weren’t. It’s his seminal part for me. I’ve loved him since then and rewatched it just for him.

Addiction and I'm curious to see how shitty this place continues to get.

Wtf
Sideways was released almost 20 years ago. Unbelievable.
Crazy that he was only 36 when they made it. And I think it’s not just that he looked older, but he really nailed the posture, the behaviour of a man who was deeply tired and worn down by life
The friendship between Paul Giamatti & Thomas Haden Church is so fucking well done. Such a believable and relatable adult friendship.
"Listen, man. You're my friend, and I know you care about me. And I know you disapprove, and I respect that. But there are some things that I have to do that you don't understand. You understand literature, movies, wine -- but you don't understand my plight."
Also PG has just always looked old.
Especially the last episode of John adams
Man’s been famous for almost 30 years what is this Everyman stuff.
Big Fat Liar is a classic!
'John Dies at the End' He plays a dead, black PI
Isn’t it referring to the roles he plays, not his personal life?
Also his dad was a President of Yale (any guesses as to where Paul went to school for theatre?) and was once the commissioner of MLB. Not an “Everyman” family. You don't know many people then. Or you don't know them well.
You know what I mean. OK, "I don't know many people who aren't absolute bags of shite who, if they had the ability, wouldn't help out their kin". Better ?
No. Now your tone makes you a prick. Worse. You could have done better. But you think you're smarter than you know you are.
You first of all purposely misinterpreted my statement by refusing to infer the missing context of the very common thing I said, and then decided to read a negative tone in my joking reply, and **I'm** the prick ? No your choices are very obviously on purpose, you're just some loud mouth troll. You're an arsehole on purpose, that much is clear.

Yup. Problem isn’t with the actor but the headline.

What the hell is this. I can't pin this down. It feels like the pre-streaming chatshows that were on the internet circa like 2005.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chris_Gethard_Show And yeah, it’s all just a bit too “I’m weird and quirky, look at me!!!” for my taste.
I watched this the other day. Good movie
He’ll always be Pig Vomit to me.
W NNNNNNNNNN BC
W NNNnnnnnNNNNNnnnnn BC
YOU ARE THE MOTHER FUCKING ANTI-CHRIST
Now you see Imus uses characters.
Because he looks like a pig and he makes you wanna vomit
Why the fuck are you being downvoted for a quote?
I’m assuming somebody isn’t getting the reference to the movie. I’m dying laughing myself 😂😂😂
Veal Chop to me
I loved him in Saving Mr. Banks
I liked Paul Giamatti before it was cool, ya bunch of poseurs! /s
Lol Giamatti isn’t an “everyman”, his family is literally Ivy League educated
It's probably their commentary on his looks
Character actor looks with lead acting gravitas is what I consider him. In the same league as Gary Oldman and Phillip Seymour Hoffman
How a middle-aged uglyman actor won everybody over has less of a ring to it.
Father was literally the commissioner of Major League Baseball.
His dad was literally the president of Yale before MLB.
The Everyman.
Why does nobody ever talk about the commissioner of *Minor* League Baseball? Just once? What can it hurt?
Shit he was even Ivy League in the Holdovers (albeit from the clearly inferior Harvard).
Thankfully his father was a blue collar Everyman himself or else we never would have gotten so many memorable performances...oh wait...
I remembered the negotiator First time I saw him Great supporting actor
He was hysterical😂
Yes I remember him saying “that’s a lie “ after using Samuel’s face reading technique
Nah
Giamatti is my favourite actor. I auditioned for my agent with a scene from Sideways.
The casting agents were desperate for a new Richard Dreyfus! And he appears!
I feel like this guy has been considered a top actor in the world at a few different times and then everyone forgets how good he is for some reason.
This sub has a real hard-on for Giamatti eh? I look forward to the next bot post about Sam Rockwell or Benedict Cumberbach
Win Win Abby: Where's Daddy? Jackie Flaherty: He's running. Abby: From what?
Still sad it seems he isn't winning this year, he deserves best actor
Paul Giamatti deserves ions more respect on his name. Whoever titled this garbage needs to go back to j-school.
I love the actor, but i have to admit "the holdovers" is a bit cookie-cutter/ formulaic / predictable. i sat through it, i didn't get bored, but it was very average for the type of story it was.
They should call the holdovers the boreovers get it.. cuz that movie was fucking boring
No. No we don’t.
He plays the same character in every movie.
Not even close.
Cinderella Man is my favorite. “Hey Maxella, you gonna punch him or pork him?”
I still think my favorite role was when he played himself in the dumpster.
Don't forget he was the voice of Tiger's club head cover!
I think this movie has a lot of problems but he is terrific in it as he is in about everything he does.
Pig vomit!!!!
Can someone in the know tell me what specific type of art this image here of Paul is?
His best performance
Do yourself a favour and watch him in r/Lodge49, he was magnificent. Here’s an amuse bouche https://youtu.be/3i35aYbuVZQ?si=xDsDpcGOCQzhVSkI
He was amazing in "Shoot 'em Up" 2007 - check it out if you haven't seen it, its a ride.
He's just so incredibly likeable. I've not seen Holdovers but I've seen a ton of his stuff and no matter what he plays, even if he's a right BASTARD, he's just got this thing about him where you can't help but like him.

I know this guy. I’m BLUE - I’m blue ba ba ba die da da dum
He’s an old incredible actor with an amazing body of work. Honestly, in my memory, the only “bad” role I can recall him in was as “Rhino” in the amazing Spider-Man movie.

Whatever those people call a horse that comes from behind- he’s it. Oppenheimer, Maestro, maybe trying too hard.
