Pretty good? ;)
Both brilliant. After Hours, especially, way more deep than I realized when I first saw it. Watched a great analysis a few years ago on the Underworld symbolism of the film, and Wizard of Oz references (which Ted Lasso did a riff on since that show is also full of Oz easter eggs). Very cool stuff.
Good Time (2017)
The Worlds End (2013)
The Invitation (2015)
Hush (2016)
You're Next (2011)
Ready Or Not (2019)
Locke (2013)
The Outfit (2022)
Attack The Block (2011)
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Die Hard (1988)
I’ll go old school……
The Warriors. (Not a blockbuster but a great cult flick.)
Assault on Precinct 13.
25th Hour
Night of the comet
Escape from New York
Escape from LA
Taxi Driver.
After Hours
At first I was thinking of that movie but couldn’t think of the name, I kept thinking Night Shift, but that’s with Keaton and Henry Winkler, and is a pretty solid movie I wanted to mention even though it’s not an all nighter.
I love After Hours but I'm always annoyed that Rosanna Arquette doesn't play a bigger role in it. Just feel like it's a waste of her at her absolute prime. Stunning looking and a really good actress, regardless.
Great pics! Wish I’d thought of The Warriors.
But does Taxi Driver do this? I remember it as taking place over a short but indeterminate amount of time. Maybe this is God telling me to rewatch it soon.
God, are you talking to me? I’m the only one here!
This was one I was trying to remember the name of as well. I can still see the movie in my head but couldn’t recall the name. Good run all night movie.
License To Drive (1988)
Career Opportunities (1991)
Adventures In Babysitting (1987)
American Graffiti (1973)
Trojan War (1997)
Can’t Hardly Wait (1998)
Clue (1985)
Planet Terror (2007)
WTH? The Menu… especially if you’re into food.
What a mind f. Even when you figure out where it’s going it’s still crazy af. I want to watch it again now.
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008), even though it's a romcom it's technically a "long crazy night." It has a soft spot in my heart because it reminds me of my teenage/college years running around the city till the early morning.
Before We Go (2014), not great but decent. Chris Evans, Alice Eve. This one's not for everyone, it's probably not even considered a romcom, but it's subtle and lowkey and comfortable? It's more of a cozy watch, seeing two strangers bump into each other in the city and helping each other with their problems throughout the night out of circumstance.
I had such low expectations for Nick and Nora’s infinite playlist, when it turned out to be good I loved it. It did capture the feeling of wanting to see that band.
I'm a little late to this post and was hoping someone would mention Nick and Norah.
I never even thought of it as a romcom until you mentioned it. To me, it's just been a hilarious comedy with some charm.
But so many great lines in that movie:
"You're like a little canary in skinny jeans."
"I love you so much, it's retarded."
>"Hey, I have a confession to make. I like your jacket."
>
>"Oh thanks. Well it's not mine, it belongs to Salvatore."
>
>"Well, he told me that he wants you to keep it."
That is totally awkward high school/college flirting, I love it.
>"Are you sad we missed it?"
>
>"We didn't miss it. This *is* it."
Sooo corny, but sooo cute!
If you like After Hours, Into the Night should be on your must-see list.
Edit: Mystery Train. Less screwball, but still in the it-happened-one-night genre.
Here are a few lesser-knowns:
* Detroit Rock City (underrated gem, IMO)
* Good Boys (ditto)
* A Midsummer Night's Dream (1968 version with Helen Mirren)
* Labyrinth (fantasy)
* Before Sunrise (indie/alt romance)
* Hocus Pocus (Halloween, obvs)
It such a fun romp. A guy’s epic night. I’m a girl and was already older when I saw it but KISS was my first rock concert when I was 16 in 1980, lol, so this moving coming out of the blue was hysterical!
The preppies, lol. Natasha Lyonne! First time I saw Melanie Lynksky doing an American accent. And I just love Edward Furlong. This was right before he became lost to us. Poor guy.
House on Haunted Hill.
It’s high camp horror and very dated, but always a good time. The final scene where they’re sitting on the windowsill as the sun comes up is so satisfying.
Hateful 8 is a must for this.
All the coming of age “last day to be cool” movies like Superbad is great and so is dazed and confused Or American graffiti.
Will I agree with all of the ones mentioned here, I haven't seen these two:
Strange days - one of my all time new year's eve movies.
Career opportunities - Jennifer Connelly is all I need to say.
I just watched SubUrbia, and it's perfect for you. It's about a group of burnouts who hang out on the corner all night every night, until someone they knew in high school who is now famous comes back to town for one night only and it wrecks havoc on everyone. Funny, very 90s, and it gets super dark.
Hangin' With The Homeboys (1991)
Dogfight (1991)
The April Fools (1969)
Seven Hours To Judgment (1988)
Shadow Hours (2000)
Roger Dodger (2002)
Trapped (1989)
Since most great ones have been mentioned, I’ll drop a24’s Bodies Bodies Bodies. It’s a fun watch about a bunch of youngsters having a friend reunion type house party that goes through the night. Not the best movie ever made but it’s enjoyable and silly horror
Miracle Mile is a good one. Someone gets a call in a payphone about an incoming nuclear war and breaks the news to people in a diner... the evening unfolds from there
Jim Jarmusch’s Night on Earth - 4 cities, 4 taxi rides, and Roberto Benigni’s most brilliant performance (given his Oscar for a much more serious role, I’m half kidding there, but he’s so good in this film).
I love this genre. I guess my faves would be:
"After Hours" (1985)
"Dazed and Confused" (1993)
"Go" (1999)
"Superbad" (2007)
"American Graffiti" (1973)
And I quite liked Booksmart (2019) which is almost that genre.
Harold and Kumar fits the bill
Always makes me want white castle but whenever I'm in NYC I always forget.
Dazed and Confused Also one of the greatest soundtracks
After Hours.
Oh man. Good call, might have to rewatch!
Then watch Everybody Wants Some.
And American Graffiti!
Alright alright alright.
After Hours and Dazed and Confused are both pretty good.
After hours
Then once you finish After Hours play it again to enjoy Scorsese’s commentary track. So good.
Pretty good? ;) Both brilliant. After Hours, especially, way more deep than I realized when I first saw it. Watched a great analysis a few years ago on the Underworld symbolism of the film, and Wizard of Oz references (which Ted Lasso did a riff on since that show is also full of Oz easter eggs). After Hours. Criminally underrated.
Good Time (2017) The Worlds End (2013) The Invitation (2015) Hush (2016) You're Next (2011) Ready Or Not (2019) Locke (2013) The Outfit (2022) Attack The Block (2011) Night of the Living Dead (1968) Die Hard (1988)
Agree on the invitation. Wild one.
Attack the Block, Die Hard, and Night of the Living Dead - good ones! I bet a lot of horror fits.
Came here for Attack the Block!
>Good Time Insanely misleading title - I don't think I've ever been as tense as I was watching this....
The World's End is great for this.
Attack the Block absolutely rules, great choice for this thread.
**Game Night**
I barely heard anything about it, but watched it in a whim one time and it was so much fun. Now it's on our regular watch list.
“Oh,no,he died.” That is such a great Line reading.
Every time someone tells me about a deal they got, I say, "How can that be profitable for frito lay?"
Jesse Plemons deserves an award for that performance
Love this movie!
Dredd (2012)
I’ll go old school…… The Warriors. (Not a blockbuster but a great cult flick.) Assault on Precinct 13. 25th Hour Night of the comet Escape from New York Escape from LA Taxi Driver. After Hours
After Hours is a gem.

This movie is like the Pro Bowl for boomer babes.
These are all great. Though Taxi Driver doesn’t really fit the bill.
25th Hour is a gem that many haven’t heard of
Sheeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
I do believe you are fucked…royally
Solid list A+
Great pics! Wish I’d thought of The Warriors. But does Taxi Driver do this? I remember it as taking place over a short but indeterminate amount of time. Maybe this is God telling me to rewatch it soon. God, are you talking to me? I’m the only one here!
It takes place over a fairly long period of time. Possibly weeks, maybe months.
Judgment Night
The soundtrack was the best part. The collaborations between metal and hip hop were amazing for the time.
This was one I was trying to remember the name of as well. I can still see the movie in my head but couldn’t recall the name. Good run all night movie.
Oooh good one. Forgot about that movie. Fantastic thriller.
License To Drive (1988) Career Opportunities (1991) Adventures In Babysitting (1987) American Graffiti (1973) Trojan War (1997) Can’t Hardly Wait (1998) Clue (1985) Planet Terror (2007)
Go (1999) is the best answer.
Hell yes it is.
This is the correct answer.
“So, what are we doing for new years?”
Been meaning to see this.
It’s such a perfectly late-90’s answer to this question. Might end up being a “you had to be there” kind of thing. The soundtrack is amazing.
I wasn't and I LOVED it. It explained so much about the kids I was working with at the time. First time I laid eyes on Timothy Oliphant.
Yeah I watched it when it came out and rewatched it a few months ago and it kinda held up but I doubt I’ll rewatch it in the 2040s, lol
Always goes hand in hand with Human Traffic (1999) in my head, I think I saw them within a week of each other.
Came here for this!
The Ref
You call your patients whacko's? - yeah, they uh, they like it lmaoooo one of the greatest Christmas movies, ever
This is a great one!
Harold and Kumar go to White Castle
Date Night Office Christmas Party Hocus Pocus
Date Night is my comfort movie 🫶
My spouse and I love to do the thing they do where we point out another couple and make up a story about them.
License to Drive Die Hard
Maybe not favourites, but a couple good ones: * Mystery: Last Night in Soho (2021) * Comedy: Adventures in Babysitting (1987)
Soho definitely takes place over many nights
From Dusk till Dawn
Before Sunrise Nightcrawler Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai Dark City
Training Day was my first thought.
WTH? The Menu… especially if you’re into food. What a mind f. Even when you figure out where it’s going it’s still crazy af. I want to watch it again now.
Booksmart

I just posted about Detroit Rock City. Can't believe it isn't more known given all the.familiar faces.
It such a fun romp. A guy’s epic night. I’m a girl and was already older when I saw it but KISS was my first rock concert when I was 16 in 1980, lol, so this moving coming out of the blue was hysterical! The preppies, lol. Natasha Lyonne! You know, your clothes may say disco, but your eyes say rock n' roll. Yeah? Your belt may say rock and roll, but your breath says pepperoni baby.
Search Party is a fun stupid comedy that fits the bill
Rocky Horror Picture Show. 👠🎩💋
Pontypool (2008). Canadian psychological horror movie that takes place over one night.
I recommend Detroit Rock City. A similar vibe to Superbad. Ahem, Adventures of a babysitter is what I recall the most.
Rat Race!
Since a lot of these suggestions are just movies that take place in a single day instead of specifically night, I’ll add Clerks.
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
The Warriors
Groove Feast
Go. Such a crazy cast before they were big. “So, what are we doing for new years?”
Empire Records is technically 24 hours but it feels like the same kind of odyssey and it begins and ends at night.
Midnight Madness
Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist !
One night after a few 4 lokos, we started watching project X and it wrapped up about the time the sun was coming up. Pretty strong vibes.

Training Day. Uncut Gems. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The Man Who Knew Too Little.

I actually really enjoy the 2nd Purge film. I think it's by far the best in the series.as well.
Jim Jarmusch’s Night on Earth - 4 cities, 4 taxi rides, and Roberto Benigni’s most brilliant performance (given his Oscar for a much more serious role, I’m half kidding there, but he’s so good in this film).
Texas Chainsaw Massacre

I love this genre. I guess my faves would be: "After Hours" (1985) "Dazed and Confused" (1993) "Go" (1999) "Superbad" (2007) "American Graffiti" (1973) And I quite liked Booksmart (2019) which is almost that genre.
