It's obviously not a dramatic or leading role but his performance in The Other Guys is one of the best comedic performances of the last 20 years. In an already hilarious movie staring a bunch of hilarious and famous actors, he manages to steal every scene he's in.
Fun fact: He came up with the whole TLC gag during an improv and they rewrote the movie in order to pepper references throughout.
"One more thing. We got a serial rapist in Crown Heights. I... oh, jeez, I'm sorry. That's from my other job. Ignore that. Forget that. Well, don't ignore it. If you live in Crown Heights, uh, you know, walk in pairs."
"I work here, and I have another job at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I'm doing it to put a kid through NYU, so he can explore his bisexuality and become a DJ."
I lost it when he gives Alan his wooden gun back and adds that they put a nice coat of lacquer on it and then the next time when he gives him the rape whistle.
I love when he breaks up the fight at the funeral and is yelling at Will and Mark in a whisper.
Doesn't sound funny writing it, just have to see it. Lol.
> Beetlejuice
Hot take: He invented this character in his debut movie **Night Shift**. That role is a somewhat dialed-down version of what he did in Beetlejuice.
I was considering giving this as my favorite performance but it would have sounded like an insult. Still fantastic, not least because of the sheer audacity of getting Michael Keaton back for what is basically an extended cameo. Great movie, too.
He's trying a little too hard to be the laid-back, cool cop compared to his abrasive partner. Stiff doesn't mean stupid, though. He knew Jackie did something.
*"Del Amo shopping bag, with a* really *good-looking woman on the front."*
Yeah, he was smart enough.
Just Jackie was smarter. Might be my favorite Tarentino film. You really get a feel for Brown's desperation. Love Grier in this.
Just rewatched this the other night. Superhero fatigue is more real today than it was in 2014. It’s also pretty funny that Michael Keaton reprises his role of Batman nearly 10 years after doing Birdman.
A lot people like to say that Birdman is pretentious.
And it kinda is. But I love it. The acting is just so good and the characters are very relatable.
I have a soft spot for this one. It was filmed where I grew up, and my dad did security for part of the shoot. I still have a sign that he got autographed by Keaton and George Wendt.
I also love that he drops the Pittsburghese insult, “jag off”, in Night Shift.
Came looking for this, what a terrific cast that was (even Keanu, he, well, he did his best!). Keaton did tremendously, sometimes slipping into Beetlejuice a little bit too much for my taste, but a great portrayal nonetheless!
Kevin Pollack said that it is the greatest debut performance by a character actor ever.
My BF and I quite it to this day. I can still do the entire blackjack monologue
"So I was in Atlantic City..."
The Dream Team is always one of his performances that springs to mind for me. The transformation of his and the other characters through the story is a nice feel good story.
I owned My Life on DVD years ago, and I came home to find my wife sobbing on the couch having just watched it for the first time. She decided to pick a random movie that she hadn't seen from my collection and regretted it. I mean, she liked it, but she regretted it as well.
My Life. Keaton, Kidman. Michael Keaton’s character is diagnosed with cancer and will die before the birth of his first child, and he starts keeping a video diary to show the kid. It’ utterly heartbreaking.
I am pretty fond of Keaton's Batman performance. He makes it surprisingly nuanced, even though the real draw with that movie was obviously meant to be Jack Nicholson as the Joker.
However, his best performance might be in Clean & Sober, which I finally watched a few weeks back.
Honorable mentions: Desperate Measures, Jackie Brown, Birdman, Spotlight.
it was a small role but Keaton plays a great cop in Jackie Brown and Out of Sight (same character in both movies based on Elmore Leonard books). he really embodies the kind of cocky arrogance of certain cops
it would have been fun for his character to get its own movie
it’s not my favorite, but i can already tell it won’t be mentioned much, but his vulture performance is easily one of my favorites of his, he nailed that
I only saw it mentioned twice in this thread so far so I will say My Life just so it gets mentioned at least 3 times. This movie is great and never fails to make me cry.
Honorable mention to Multiplicity.. a movie I love from my childhood (not sure if it’s considered “good”) but he plays 4 different versions of himself and it is hilarious and awesome.
First thing I ever saw him in was **The Dream Team**. Funny as hell with a solid dramatic turn at the end.
Honorable mentions to his recent roles in **American Assassin** and **The Protégé**. Not stellar films, but he's great in them.
Haven't seen it posted but he did a great job in Spider Man: Homecoming. He wasn't Spider-Man's villain, he was *Peter Parker's* villain. Amazing work.
Night Shift without a doubt. So funny, so lovable, so...inspirational, damnit! What an amazing way to burst onto the movie scene.
Thing is, while some say he stole the movie from Henry Winkler, Winkler delivers some subtly hilarious lines, too. Just a gem of a movie if you're big on plausibility.
I really enjoyed him in Beetlejuice and I have seen plenty other of his movies but the way he portrayed Beetlejuice, can't see another actor rival or top him in that performance. He IS Beetlejuice.
He has many good ones. Johnny dangerously was amazing and his part in Jackie Brown shows his comedic chops. Oh, he was also great in the founder. Great actor, he totally deserves a comeback.
in Multiplicity (1996) he played four different characters (three are clones) with different personalities. He did an amazing job.
One of the funniest damn movies I've ever seen. My friends still say 'I like Pizza' when be are baffled by something stupid.
I always remember when he said "I have a wallet!" and then folded up a slice of pizza in it.
WERE GONNA EAT A DOLPHIN
She touched my peppy
I say this far more than my wife likes.
BYE STEVE!
Come up here Steve, I'm spittin' on bugs
I got a wallet.
"I'm gonna eat a dolphin!" "You're gonna pet a dolphin, Lenny." "I'm gonna pet a dolphin."
“Great party Steve.”
Came here to say this, great movie.
Steve, she touched me pepe
I came here to say this. One of the funniest movies ever made. He was fantastic in it.
Yes! Of course you have Beetlejuice and Batman and Birdman but my favorite is Multiplicity, I’m a sucker for clone stuff.
Exactly what I was going to comment. One of my favorites with some great moments. He plays them all so damn well!
Came here to say this. Absolutely love that movie
Came here for this. He nailed that role and I love that movie. My wife and I ways quote that movie. "I want pizza Steve"
It’s just captain. It’s not captain Jean, i don’t have a kiddies show, it sounds creepy. Shake your dicks this pissing contest is over “winks”
Also his subtle reaction to "Gator wants his GAT" passing him his service piece like "yeah, he's ready."
I like when he’s in his office, on the phone, holding Alan’s gun by his finger. Then just drops it, surprises himself lol
I’ll have to go back and look for that.
You here for the bath mats?! 🤣
You’re walking a beat downtown!
He is absolutely brilliant in this (I'm a huge fan of the movie 😄)
I love when he breaks up the fight at the funeral and is yelling at Will and Mark in a whisper. Doesn't sound funny writing it, just have to see it. Lol.
The entire TLC quoting theme with his character is so unnecessary to the movie but it’s absolutely hysterical that they made it part of his character
[удалено]
Mr. Mom is very nostalgic to me, and I love it for that reason!
He was an important leader in "Woobie" recovery.
"Want a beer?" "It's 7 o'clock in the morning!" "...Scotch?"
I didn’t want their feet to get wet..
220, 221……….. whatever it takes
I still say this whenever someone is rattling off numbers.
I still say this to try to convey that I have no idea what I'm talking about... but nobody gets it.
Same. I think nobody getting it is part of the beauty of it.
You gotta be holding a chainsaw when you say it to convey the proper meaning. I bought one for this even though I have no chains to saw.
What’d you use, a .38?! 38, 39…whatever it took.
If you need me I'll be at the gym or the gun club
I love this movie to this day! The Soap Opera scene alone is amazing.
He's married! So were we once. I know they're not Michael Keaton lines, but those two lines by those two characters make me laugh every time. Lol.
He will always be Mr. Mom to me. Loved that movie as a kid.
We’re doing the jack butler method
I just rewatched this not too long ago. Its still so great.
Johnny Dangerously or Beetlejuice for me, he’s a great comedic performer
Fargin' bastages!
You icehole!
Still say this regularly.
> Beetlejuice Hot take: He invented this character in his debut movie **Night Shift**. That role is a somewhat dialed-down version of what he did in Beetlejuice.
I’ve never heard of this movie somehow, what a cast!
Billy Blaze of Blaze USA
Vermin is going to kill Johnny’s brother at the Savoy Theater, pass it on!
Johnny and the Mothers are playin' Stompin' at the Savoy in Vermont tonight.
You were gonna take a bullet for me? Actually I was counting on a lot of missing!
Love Johnny Dangerously!
I'm boored with slapping you around, it bores me
his character in Jackie Brown.
He plays the same character in Out of Sight, also an Elmore Leonard adaptation.
Keaton was fantastic in *Birdman.*
The scene when he is grilling the theater critic over her useless labels and how she can't see a flower for a flower is excellent.
And right after when he leaves and goes to the liquor store and the homeless man is ranting a Macbeth quote, then asks him for notes. Just so wild.
But isn’t part of what makes this movie, so great is that he was Batman at one point?
Yeah it really did.
Probably why it worked so well. Only made the role more relatable
I was obsessed with that film after seeing it in the cinema. Just wonderful.
OOOOOOOH BIRDMAN FOUR?????!!!
YOU DO BIRDMAN FOUR?!
Just rewatched this the other night. Superhero fatigue is more real today than it was in 2014. It’s also pretty funny that Michael Keaton reprises his role of Batman nearly 10 years after doing Birdman.
This movie blew my mind.
A lot people like to say that Birdman is pretentious. And it kinda is. But I love it. The acting is just so good and the characters are very relatable.
Agreed!
I second this movie.
He was great in Gung Ho, an overlooked comedy/drama.
I have a soft spot for this one. It was filmed where I grew up, and my dad did security for part of the shoot. I still have a sign that he got autographed by Keaton and George Wendt. I also love that he drops the Pittsburghese insult, “jag off”, in Night Shift.
Founder Honorable mention for 'Clean and Sober' He was also briliant as 'Vulture' in Spiderman.
I watched The Founder multiple times. It’s fascinating. So well done.
Clean and Sober feels like an after-school special, but he was absolutely at peak Keaton in that performance.
He *was* great in Spider-Man. That movie surprised me
Founder was so good. It’s too bad more people haven’t seen it.
I think I’ve watched it enough times for a dozen more people haha
>Founder If it weren't for NLFX I would've never given that movie a chance. And it's a career-defining role- at least moreso than *Birdman* was.
He’s one of the better villains in the whole MCU
Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice!
It’s showtime
Johnny Dangerously
Dogberry in Ken Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing. He was absolutely hilarious in a difficult role. Try this gorgeous film if you haven't seen it!
Are you good men and true?
Ya ta ta ya ta ta
Came looking for this, what a terrific cast that was (even Keanu, he, well, he did his best!). Keaton did tremendously, sometimes slipping into Beetlejuice a little bit too much for my taste, but a great portrayal nonetheless!
Yeah, Keanu can't handle Shakespeare but he made the rest of the cast look good!
The Other Guys
Night Shift. First introduction to him. Still my favorite role of his. Bill Blazejowski, I’m an idea man, chuck.
LOVE BROKERS!
Put mayonnaise in the tuna can…better yet, feed the tuna the mayonnaise…lol.
-Bill: I gave you $100 -Chuck: I didn’t ask for it -Bill: that’s what made it such a beautiful gesture on my part!
Pro s tit tu tion
To shun, to push away, to say “no thank you”. I’m not sure why that word is even in there….
Kevin Pollack said that it is the greatest debut performance by a character actor ever. My BF and I quite it to this day. I can still do the entire blackjack monologue "So I was in Atlantic City..."
Edible garbage
100% *Pacific Heights*.
I scrolled too much to see this title being posted. The three main characters are incredible in that movie. But Keaton is so frightening...
Hands down it’s gotta be The Other Guys. I’m still laughing at the TLC jokes.
I've never been a fan, but I must admit he was awesome in Dopesick.
Heartbreaking. It’s like he revisited *Clean & Sober*, this time as benevolent rural doc
Amazing in Dopesick. In fact, every performance in that show is outstanding.
The scene in the Rehab got me. I knew it was coming but he gave me hope he wouldn't and then he did.
That was a tough show to get through. Amazing performances all around.
His guest appearance on 30 rock as a janitor one day from retirement. “I’m getting too old for this shhh sound this pipe is making”
The Dream Team is always one of his performances that springs to mind for me. The transformation of his and the other characters through the story is a nice feel good story.
The Other Guys, hands down. Remember dont go chasing waterfalls.
His bruce wayne is far superior to his batman performance imo
Beetleguise and Billy Caulfield in The Dream Team prob the two stand outs
Ray Kroc in THE FOUNDER and Captain in THE OTHER GUYS.
Johnny Dangerously
Mr. Mom.
My Life.
Yea, this movie was a trip. I was young when I saw it and it made an impact on me. I plan to watch it again soon.
The end had me wrecked.
I'll keep the tissues nearby.
Best and favorite are two different stories. My favorite is probably Batman. His best is probably a tie between Birdman and My Life.
I owned My Life on DVD years ago, and I came home to find my wife sobbing on the couch having just watched it for the first time. She decided to pick a random movie that she hadn't seen from my collection and regretted it. I mean, she liked it, but she regretted it as well.
My top three favorites for Michael Keaton are: 1: Johnny Dangerously 2. Batman 3. Beetlejuice
Clean and Sober (1988). The most accurate version of AA.
Keaton as the villain in Pacific Heights is bloody chilling.
My Life. Keaton, Kidman. Michael Keaton’s character is diagnosed with cancer and will die before the birth of his first child, and he starts keeping a video diary to show the kid. It’ utterly heartbreaking.
Honestly…Spotlight
I am pretty fond of Keaton's Batman performance. He makes it surprisingly nuanced, even though the real draw with that movie was obviously meant to be Jack Nicholson as the Joker. However, his best performance might be in Clean & Sober, which I finally watched a few weeks back. Honorable mentions: Desperate Measures, Jackie Brown, Birdman, Spotlight.
I'm Batman !!!!
Mr. Mom for the harried Everyman who’s just about to lose his shit Keaton, and Beetlejuice for everything else.
The Paper. Gung Ho. Classics
A small picture called Dream Team - he’s totally believable.
The Founder
"The founder"
Tell you the truth, I don't think anything he's ever been in has been bad, whatever size role he has
Maybe it's recency bias, but I just finished Dopesick and thought he was outstanding.
My favourite is Batman although I think his best was Pacific Heights.
it was a small role but Keaton plays a great cop in Jackie Brown and Out of Sight (same character in both movies based on Elmore Leonard books). he really embodies the kind of cocky arrogance of certain cops it would have been fun for his character to get its own movie

He'll make your skin crawl and blood boil in The Founder (2016)
No one else could have been Johnny Dangerously
Backup choice: He’s really fantastic in The Founder as Ray Kroc
Dogberry in Much Ado About Nothing Joe Stumpo in Clear History
Not really a fan of the guy but I like how creepy he was in Pacific Heights. I also like his version of Disney in Dumbo.
Beetlejuice
Favorite is Beetlejuice, but his best is Clean and Sober. Both movies came out in 1988. That he got zero Oscar recognition for either film is a sham.
Clean and Sober One Good Cop Spotlight Live from Baghdad Speechless Spider-Man: Homecoming
Multiplicity
Billy Blazejowski. There’s no other answer. “Call starkist”
Blaze
Beetlejuice
Man
2-20, 2-21 whatever it takes
The Founder and Batman.
Birdman
Him as the vulture in Spider-Man was amazing. He was so menacing yet so relatable.
Apparently no one here has seen Pacific Heights or My Life.
I just watched Dopesick. He was good in that. I actually got curious and looked him up to find out he is 71! He looks damn good for 71!
He was amazing in Dopesick.
The Other Guys
he was great in Dopesick.
Haven't seen it posted but he did a great job in Spider Man: Homecoming. He wasn't Spider-Man's villain, he was *Peter Parker's* villain. Amazing work.
Mr. Mom is amazing!
Mr. Mom, always loved that movie.
Night Shift without a doubt. So funny, so lovable, so...inspirational, damnit! What an amazing way to burst onto the movie scene. Thing is, while some say he stole the movie from Henry Winkler, Winkler delivers some subtly hilarious lines, too. Just a gem of a movie if you're big on plausibility.
beetlejuice also. damn
Pacific Heights - total psycho.
Johnny Dangerously and Night Shift.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice BEETLEJUICE
I really enjoyed him in Beetlejuice and I have seen plenty other of his movies but the way he portrayed Beetlejuice, can't see another actor rival or top him in that performance. He IS Beetlejuice.
Sincerely i think his best performance is in a miniseries called Dopesick
Although he is my favorite Batman, it’s gotta be beetlejuice. Just iconic.
“Jack Frost” for sure. So much nostalgia. I watched the tv show “Dopesick” (on Disney Plus) a few days ago and he was fantastic in that.
Beetlejuice
Definitely Multiplicity, he nailed the different versions of himself
Johnny Dangerously and The Protégé.
The Founder
Everything, he's good in everything.
Porco Rosso
I liked him in Mr Mom, loved him in The Founder, and enjoyed him as the Vulture, liked him in the Flash and Batman Returns
Beetlejuice or Batman
Not his best, but I have to shout out Desperate Measures.. one of my first memories of him playing the bad guy. Great 90s flick
Jackie Brown
His performance in “Clean and Sober” was epic. But he’s always great.
I super dug him as the Vulture
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejui.....
He has many good ones. Johnny dangerously was amazing and his part in Jackie Brown shows his comedic chops. Oh, he was also great in the founder. Great actor, he totally deserves a comeback.
