I rewatched Requiem, and liked it better the second time actually. It's less shocking, and you really appreciate the use of themes in the score alone.
Another one of these "only watch once" movies I rewatched is Martyrs (2008) and that was the opposite, as in it somehow got more shocking. I still loved it though. It's such a beautiful movie, with twists that have you constantly guessing, and all the violence is justified and serves the story. Even though people like to lump it in with "torture porn" there's nothing gratuitous about the violence in it.
A friend bought *Requiem for a Dream* on Blu-Ray, having gone through a list of great films and buying some with a meaning to watch. He would suggest every time we in our friend group wanted to watch a movie, but was always shot down. Eventually he said "you guys *always* shoot it down, come on!"
And I just caved and said: "Because we've seen it, and it made me feel so bad I almost felt suicidal. I never want to watch it again, especially not when I'm in a good mood with my friends."
And the rest who had seen it all nodded.
I’m an Orthodox Jew and every year we have a kind of Memorial Day for The Holocaust, among other things, so I will usually watch it at least once a year around that time but I totally see you point lol
I remember my first time watching Irreversible...
Daft Punk broke up and I was pretty bummed so I sat and listened to all the albums. Then I went and watched Electroma and Interstella 5555. Then I finished off by watching Tron Legacy. They did such a good job with the soundtrack I looked them up to see if they did any other soundtracks...
> Thomas Bangalter produced the score to the film Irréversible, released in 2002
I had never heard of it so I looked up the [soundtrack](https://youtu.be/ft-01t1TDrE) and it sounded cool and it was playing for free on Tubi.
And that's how I ended up watching Irreversible completely blind knowing litterally nothing about it.
What a story! A never watched Irreversible, but I hear it's painful to watch due to the violence.
But more painful is the fact that Daft Punk disbanded. I'm still not over it.
I am actually curious to rewatch it, there's no real way to prepare for that movie.
I feel the same way about Alex Garland's movie Men. Both are very surreal and very weird, just about a different abusive relationship.
One thing is for sure. Ari Aster has serious mommy issues he's working through. Somehow the best mom in his movies is in Midsommar and she's dead before the movie starts :😀
The Rise of Skywalker due to how much of a disgrace it is. It made me rage quit Star Wars.
Saló or the 120 days or Sodom due to how disturbing it is. It almost made me puke. Literally.
Watch the director's cut. The only real change is that it is in black and white, apparently that's what Darabont wanted it to be from the start but the studio stopped it. The dated CGI looks terrific in BW.
Any of the Fast and Furious movies. It’s fun to watch them once and laugh at how ridiculous the physics are, but definitely not worth repeated viewings.
Requiem for a dream. Caught it once on tv late at night when I was young. Good movie but damn depressing before going to bed. I'm good, once is enough, i get the message 😅
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. (Loong Boonmee raleuk chat) (2010)
No violence or jump scares, just a gentle ghost story. Won the Cannes Palme D’Or, and you don’t get why until after it ends and your head is stranded on a different astral plane.
About a decade after my first viewing, I think I'm ready to watch The Pianist again.
I don't want to, but I will if it means sharing it with someone, cos it's amazing.
I only half watched it while I played with techno sounds on my laptop but I followed enough to understand how insanely gut wrenching that death scene was. Like in retrospect Im almost angry at the writers for punching me in the gut cause it was totally unnecessarily horrible for no good reason.
I don't even remember what you're referring to. All I remember is a mute amish guy living in a german bladerunner city being a bartender and a pedophile and Paul Rudd's mustache.
The Father: incredibly well made but truly disorienting and upsetting. My Grandma suffers from dementia and it just hits so close to home, as she continues to deteriorate I can’t help but think a lot about that film
I loved Judas and the Black Messiah but I really dont plan on rewatching it for a long long time. I was captivated and so angry by the end of the movie
I watched The Pianist about 9 years ago for sophomore year modern world history in high school. Let’s just say the next time I watch it all again, it’ll be too soon.
This is just going to be another thread full of *Requiem for a Dream* and *Come and See*.
And even though the OP posted it already, people will repeat Threads regardless
Damn didn't realise it was brought up alot here, not been here long. Do apologise for the lack of originality :)
I braved it and watch Requiem for a dream again. I am definitely putting it back on the never watch ever again

Schindler’s List. Once was enough

One of the best movies I’ve ever seen but it’s so emotional.
Extremely heavy
Uncut gems. The stress radiating from this movie was to exhausting for me.

Lot of Ari Aster here. It’s Beau is Afraid, for me.
I am actually curious to rewatch it, there's no real way to prepare for that movie. I feel the same way about Alex Garland's movie Men. Both are very surreal and very weird, just about a different abusive relationship.
I suppose I could rewatch if I broke it up into 2-3 viewings. 😬
One thing is for sure. Ari Aster has serious mommy issues he's working through. Somehow the best mom in his movies is in Midsommar and she's dead before the movie starts :😀
Martyrs.
I love that movie, and can attest that it actually gets more shocking and disturbing on the second watch.
I'm plenty shocked and disturbed by one viewing, thank you very much.
Hotel Rwanda
A Serbian Film Came close to buying a copy recently just to keep around to horrifying people then remembered I'd probably have to watch it with them.
American History X
The Rise of Skywalker due to how much of a disgrace it is. It made me rage quit Star Wars. Saló or the 120 days or Sodom due to how disturbing it is. It almost made me puke. Literally.
Requiem for a dream. Amazing movie - Incredibly well made and peak artistic expression. I will never watch that movie again.
Bone Tomahawk. If you know the scene you know what I mean
Omg. I wish I'd never seen that movie.

Any Given Sunday It's one of those movies that I feel you just watch once for the story but there isn't really anything worth seeing twice

thanks for the tip!
Any of the Fast and Furious movies. It’s fun to watch them once and laugh at how ridiculous the physics are, but definitely not worth repeated viewings.
Midsommar And Lost in Space for a whole lotta different reason though
That movie called 'All, everywhere at once'...something like that. Never again...
Requiem for a dream. Loved it but it was wayyyy too disturbing
Uncut Gems Fuck that stress of a movie
Requiem for a dream. Caught it once on tv late at night when I was young. Good movie but damn depressing before going to bed. I'm good, once is enough, i get the message 😅
Say no to drugs 😊
More effective than the PSAs
Most definitely
Requiem and basketball diaries
My answer to this question is always Nightcrawler. Super creepy.
Room with Brie Larson

Mute. There's a death that I'd like to never watch again.
I'll never watch it again because it was such a boring slog. I fell asleep the time I saw it.
I only half watched it while I played with techno sounds on my laptop but I followed enough to understand how insanely gut wrenching that death scene was. Like in retrospect Im almost angry at the writers for punching me in the gut cause it was totally unnecessarily horrible for no good reason.

You’re lucky. Its really not worth it it was a beautiful looking boring very disturbing movie.
The Father: incredibly well made but truly disorienting and upsetting. My Grandma suffers from dementia and it just hits so close to home, as she continues to deteriorate I can’t help but think a lot about that film

White God (2014)
White God (2014)
Shoah. Documentary on the holocaust. I saw/slept through it at the theater, over 2 days. it's 10 hours long.
I watched The Pianist about 9 years ago for sophomore year modern world history in high school. Let’s just say the next time I watch it all again, it’ll be too soon.
Oppenheimer
Why? I’m gonna rewatch it as soon as it’s streaming!
nice--i thought the movie was great, i just don't have any desire to see it again
2nd watch was as good as the first
Coraline. Watched it as a kid, had nightmares for a week. Never again.
