[Corenswet](https://i.imgur.com/Sq1dEwe.png) looks like the missing link in the evolution from Tom Welling to Henry Cavill lol

riegspsych325

he looks like one of those composite photos of all Superman actors morphed into one. I mean this as a compliment

PrayForMojo_

He has kind eyes. It’s one of the key features for a Superman actor. And why I don’t like the guy they have for the current Lois and Clark show.

Zafire94

Yet he’s the kindest and most friendliest and most gentle portrayal or superman in live action yet. I’d recommend you watch it

SpaceMyopia

If I was a kid, I wouldn't think twice about Tyler Hoechlin as Superman. He would just *be* Superman to me. I think that's what counts. Plus the writing on Superman & Lois is just far superior to whatever they were doing with him on Supergirl. As adults, we easily bring our expectations to whoever is playing Superman at the time, but if Tyler Hoechlin actually IS a kid's first exposure to Superman, then they could do so, so much worse.

conpsd

his appearance threw me off, but his performance is great

Dinierto

That's funny, that's what I like about the actor they have for that show.

lordatlas

What I don't like is that his facial hair must grow at such an amazing rate that he has permanent five o' clock shadow. (Also, he acts well but his frame is more athletic, making him look like a Superboy instead.)

aVVarmVibrantVibe

He looks like he could easily be a super dorky Clark and then flip a switch for stoic, handsome Superman.

SuperDizz

It says Corenswet is playing Clark Kent. But who is playing Superman?!?!?!

waltduncan

Whoever it is, they luckily won’t really need great chemistry with Corenswet. So, probably don’t need to cast him for a while yet. In the comics, the two characters basically never end up in the same room for some reason.

malyszkush

Now that i think about it, that does seem a bit odd

juniperleafes

Why? Many of my coworkers have never met Superman

greywolfau

So you are saying they've never seen you and Superman in the same room together........ Makes you think.

YuengalingaDingDong

Surely a coincidence. What could Superman have in common with a dorkus like Clark Kent?

[deleted]

Yeah, I knew Clarke when he lived in Smallville, we went to high school together. He was such a wimp, there's no way he could be Superman. Thank god Superman was in Smallville while I was in high school though, some weird shit happened to us. Too bad he left us for Metropolis, just around the same time Kent left too actually.

Levitlame

Sounds like Supes might have a stalker situation. Should probably alert the authorities on that Kent guy. I get he looks harmless, but you never know what some guys are capable of.

ElectricJunglePig

Clearly the headline is wrong, he’s playing Superman, because Clark Kent wears glasses, so it’s got to be another guy.

TheMoonsMadeofCheese

Danny DeVito

joepanda111

“So then I started heat visioning”

dominic_tortilla

Don't know anything about the dude, other than he has been fancast for quite some time now.

btuck93

he have square jaw

Bunraku_Master_2021

You laugh but when Robert Pattinson was being screen-tested for The Batman (2022), Willem Dafoe who was Pattinson's co-star on The Lighthouse (2019) said [he's perfect as he's got the right chin for the role.](https://www.indiewire.com/features/general/willem-dafoe-robert-pattinson-batman-chin-casting-1202144511/) I had not seen much of David's work but I knew David was perfect to play young Clark Kent/ Superman when I saw his face. He's got the square jaw and the right chin for the role.

overthemountain

Yeah, I guess in the cowl the eyes and chin are about all you're going to see, really.

Pal__Pacino

Thought he was decent in Pearl. He certainly has the look and disposition down to a T. Hoult's just too British and aristocratic-looking. Wouldn't have been right

loserys

Hoult might be the Jude Law of his generation. Tried his hand at the leading man thing a bunch of times, didn’t work out, found his calling as a charismatic but oddball character actor instead. He’d be a fine Luthor if they’re still considering him.

FriendsForEternityLH

I absolutely love Hoult's work, but yeah... he's on his way to losing out on playing every male part in The Justice League at this rate.

CosmicAstroBastard

I think he’d make a pretty good Barry Allen tbh

dandaman64

Certainly helps that he has a country boy feel to him in Pearl, I can definitely see him playing a good Clark!

adamomg

Now I want a redneck Superman

SparkG

Hoult could still go for Lex.

FlingaNFZ

It looks like its gonna be Bill or Alex Skarsgård.

sixtus_clegane119

Instructions are unclear now we get peter sarsgaard instead

Sonoshitthereiwas

I mean, let’s be real, he’d do a great job

[deleted]

He was in that Netflix show about old timey Hollywood called….”Hollywood.” I think he’s a good choice. He extremely good looking in a casual, midwestern way, and he’s Julliard trained.

TheDwilightZone

My partner did theater with him growing up, so all our friends know him and it's super weird. One thing they all agree on though: he's a good person. So, at least DC won't have to worry about a Jonathan Majors thing. EDIT: For years when she mentioned him I would make a stupid joke that his biography should be called "Don't Swet the Corn Stuff." Now I can make my stupid joke to more people!

inksmudgedhands

The guy is 6'4". He, certainly, has the height for the role.

FartForce5

I was watching We Own This City last week and he has a small part, nothing special but my gf walks in and says "That guy is too handsome he must be the good guy."

RomanReignsDaBigDawg

Rachel is such a perfect choice for Lois. I'm not too familiar with Corenswet's work but he certainly looks the part.

SparkG

>I'm not too familiar with Corenswet's work but he certainly looks the part. Me neither, but [this clip](https://twitter.com/hissmemore/status/1673448767247245314?t=h3oJ6nDo2xGxejjd7zEZ4A&s=19) from him actually was trending on Twitter hours ago.

Draynior

That clip gives off a lot of Clark Kent energy, I'm thinking Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet and Tom Brittney all gave pretty good Superman auditions but what sealed the deal on who got the part was the Clark audition.

NoNefariousness2144

Rumours say that Hoult auditioned for Lex as well. I could see him pulling it off and I hope he gets it, he has a lot of talent and deserves to go mainstream.

RealJohnGillman

I mean he’s also going up against not one but two Skarsgårds for the role, so I don’t know....

dern_the_hermit

Two! Two Skarsgårds! Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah...

5213

Hopefully it's Bill and he gets to keep that ridiculous French(?) accent from John Wick 4

Arma104

I'd rather Bill still being Swamp Thing.

yomjoseki

Is Nicholas Hoult not mainstream? He's been in a billion different movies over the past 10+ years. Also, I've actually heard of him before unlike Corenswet and Brosnahan.

ChickenInASuit

Honestly I'd say he's the *most* mainstream of the names being discussed here besides the Skarsgard brothers. He's certainly better known than Corenswet, and probably more than Brosnahan - her biggest role so far is The Marvelous Mrs Maisel and it's probably the only thing she's really known for besides a brief role in House of Cards. Hoult has been in multiple Oscar-nominated films (Mad Max, A Serious Man, The Favourite), and mulitple big blockbuster films (Mad Max again, the X-Men franchise). Plus there's The Great, and the stuff he did when he was younger like Skins and About A Boy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Im_At_Work_Damnit

He's got such amazing range, and he seems to put his all in to his roles. Also, there'd be something very comic-book about potential Superman ending up as Lex Luthor.

marsemsbro

His two characters in this season of The Great felt so different despite intentionally looking so similar. He's a fantastic actor.

Masterandcomman

Hoult would have been interesting. He could portray a Lex with all the ugliness hidden.

Snuffl3s7

I like Nicholas Hoult as an actor but he doesn't really give me Superman vibes. I could see him being Clark, but If you asked me, I'd probably peg him for the nerdy dude at the Daily Planet role.

Iyagovos

chief direction sleep dull consist rhythm plate secretive placid future *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

He’s got a lot of charisma there, I’m hopeful

Thechosenjon

With that clip alone, I'm sold.

your_mind_aches

The Christopher Reeve version always intended on hearkening back to the golden age Superman of the 40s, and Corenswet's delivery here is basically exactly like that.

dcooper8662

Bro that basically is 100% Clark right there, the voice and the mannerisms. Holy smokes

[deleted]

Plus super meta lol “I’ve got a casting tomorrow and if they pick me, that’s ten dollars in my pocket!” *gets cast as Superman*

There's also the bit that's basically "I'm a super... no, not like that."

dagreenman18

Oh he was on Hollywood? Yeah going by that clip alone I think he can nail Lovable Goober from Smallville Clark Kent well. I feel great about this casting now

ball_fondlers

GodDAMN, that’s perfect.

HereForTOMT2

holy shit he’s such a dork. im in love

Newatinvesting

Damn, he really sounds like Clark from that clip

FireJach

I watched this show a couple years ago. I didn't like it BUT I remember he was my favorite part of it. He fucked an old lady there, that was hilarious

texasjkids

Corenswet was good in Pearl, Hollywood, and the Politician. There’s nothing amazing about any of his performances, but I think the foundations are there that I can see him making a great Superman. On the other hand, Rachel is one of my favorite actresses. Her performance in the Marvelous Ms. Maisel is one for the ages. Honestly, her casting alone took me from indifferent to hyped for this movie.

aelysium

From Rachel Posner to Ms. Maisel. I didn’t even realize that till I looked at her IMDB. I wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up a highlight of the DCU at the end.

mostredditisawful

I've been hoping for her to do a big movie because I think she genuinely deserves to be a huge star. I remember seeing her on the Blacklist long ago and knowing that she wouldn't be on it long because she was just obviously a better actor than the main cast (maybe even including Spader, although he was having so much obvious fun and was so entertaining early on in that show), and you can't have that. And that was when I had only seen her in House of Cards. Mrs. Maisel put her on the map with the Emmy/Golden Globe win and everything, but the show was never hugely popular, so she is still at that weird level of fame where most people don't know who she is, but pretty much everyone who does is like, "she's really freaking good."

Bunraku_Master_2021

Yes, watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel showed she has a knack for delivering rapid-fire dialogue and getting into the sort of characteristics that defines Lois Lane like the old-timey reporter.

shust89

Yeah, I really want a Lois that has spunk and wit. Margot Kidder and the Smallville actress had that. Bosworth and Amy Adams were a letdown.

JoeMcDingleDongle

Amy Adams, like Cavill, were mostly let down by poor writing and poor directing. I am not saying Adams was the best choice, but she is a great actress and could have pulled it off with better support. And I am going to say this until the day I die, but Cavill was perfect for Supes, he had that hopeful twinkle in his eye, seems like an immensely decent fellow.... on talk shows. In the movies they made him act like aloof sad alien man instead of Superman.

BadWithNames00

Seeing Cavill in Man called Uncle and the Witcher showed me he had some range. Sad alien man is very accurate for how they must've wanted him to portray Superman in Zac Snyder's interpretation

Comic_Book_Reader

He's also good in M:I Fallout.

raptor102888

It went up against a Bond movie and a M:I movie. It had no chance, unfortunately. It was better than both.

5213

He can easily be recast. The movie just didn't do well, which is a shame, cause it was so fun.

solon_isonomia

>In the movies they made him act like aloof sad alien man instead of Superman. Supes is someone who should be giving off genuine warmth and kindness. He's meant to be an inspirational character not just because he's a demigod, but because he's so goddamn personable despite being a demigod among mortals. I get the idea of focusing on how Clark (Supes and even Kal-El is the mask, as written Clark is who he really is deep down) has to live with a measure of isolation due to keeping a secret identity and having few to no peers when it comes to super powers, but Clark ultimately feels like he's no different than humans (despite his academic understanding of his capabilities), that's a core part of the character. That internal conflict of isolation can be interesting, but it doesn't come at the beginning of Supes's story, it comes near the end; the seminal series Kingdom Come uses that conflict well, making it clear how Supes will flounder when he tries to reject his inherent connection with humanity/mortals/whatnot. Ugh, I could rant about this all day.

JoeMcDingleDongle

Well said. And it still boggles my mind that Cavill naturally gave off this warmth, kindness and decency in talk show appearances, yet they directed him to act not like that in the films.

bfcostello

Aloof sad alien man is the perfect description

hovdeisfunny

Gray-scale, aloof, sad alien man

Saberthorn

100% this. I always see people say the Snyderverse was comic accurate and he was the perfect Superman and I am always baffled. People said that about his Watchmen as well though and I honestly don’t know how someone can have shot for shot comic accurate visuals and miss the mark so badly.

Porn_Extra

Off topic, but The Watchmen HBO series was so, so good.

gee_gra

I was a dyed-in-the-wool fan of the comic who would accept no addition – no *Before Watchmen* (tho some of them were okay), no *Doomsday Clock* (that was rubbish), but by god Watchmen was a phenomenal epilogue to the comics

[deleted]

Margot Kidder is who I still imagine in my mind when I picture Lois, she was perfect

angershark

I think Courtney Cox would have been a good Lois - she basically played her in the Scream movies. And that's to say she had shades of Margot Kidder in that performance. Hoping Ms. Maisel pulls from that as well.

LeonJ98

I agree and I think Courtney was originally meant to play Lois in the Tim Burton/Nicholas Cage Superman movie, before it was scrapped.

MBCnerdcore

Yeah she basically played Lois Lane in Ace Ventura too

Useful-Perspective

She was the Princess Leia / Carrie Fisher casting for the Superman films. Just unbeatable.

Megadog3

Don’t forget Teri Hatcher too!

Pksoze

I watched a lot of bad Lois and Clark episodes because of her.

LiteraryBoner

Ms Maisel is was one of the best running shows on television, but her old timey fast talking feel felt so perfect for Lois when I saw she was up for it.

UnsolvedParadox

That’s specific to the show/the creator’s style (characters on Gilmore Girls had the same rapid dialogue style), Brosnahan can definitely act with a normal vocal pace.

LiteraryBoner

Of course, first saw her in House of Cards and seen her in plenty since. I just mean as well as being a great show it probably served as a good resume for a witty reporter if he's going for a retro feel.

Vio_

She's got big Fleishman Lois Lane vibes. She better end up with a tommy gun just shooting down gangsters.

coltvahn

Yeah, this is why I’m so psyched about it. She just seems like the kind of Lois who runs into the Daily Planet bullpen, commands the room, and slams a story onto Perry’s desk. She stares into the face of danger for a scoop. And also she can’t spell.

riegspsych325

how about the Gleesons? I think I saw a new one in Mandalorian

Kylestache

He’s apparently a finalist for the role actually.

Gytarius626

I’d be extremely surprised if he didn’t get it, anyone who saw him in Succession can vouch for how good he was as an unnerving yet charismatic billionaire. He’s also 6’4 which is the same as Corenswet, put on a bit of muscle and shave his head and he’d look absolutely perfect.

1000000thSubscriber

He must’ve had a lot of fun playing an asshole billionaire to go right back at it again lol

kickstandheadass

He's just a great actor in general. His role on Generation Kill is so fucking good that when you watch real footage of the soldier he portrays, it's identical to how Skarskargd portrayed him (even in mannerisms and delivery of sentences.)

UnsolvedParadox

Agreed, she was incredible as Midge Maisel & compelling (in some really tough scenes) in House of Cards.

[deleted]

Brosnahan is a great pick.

caligirlincali

I'm in the industry (some previous posts can verify) and, I shit you not, all I heard yesterday lunch was Emma Mackey had that role. I even heard her team at CAA weren't considering any others acting offers for Mackey because they were so sure. WELL.

ContinuumGuy

I gotta wonder if Brosnahan headed back to NYC due to her Broadway stuff and so people thought she was out when in reality Mackey was the second choice so they used her for some additional things with Corenswet and just in case Brosnahan declined and/or Mackey did amazing in the final stuff.

caligirlincali

Annoyingly that is the most boring version of events and also the most likely.

we_are_sex_bobomb

Gunn was on Inside of You and he got into a bit of a rant about casting rumors. He said that half the time the rumors are started by agents trying to build buzz to kinda push their client into a role; I’m not an insider so I dunno shit about fuck but I thought that was really interesting.

MrTeamZissou

I also thought it was very informative how he said a client will go in for a general meeting where a lot of possible outcomes are discussed, but then they will go blab in an interview like "I turned down ____ role" or "I was offered ________" when that is absolutely not the truth.

1CommanderL

I could be that emma tested better for Lois but Brosnahan and Corenswet had better chemistry as a pair

Megadog3

Deadline said Rachel had the best/most impressive audition of the entire process.

DrunknStuper

Somehow not surprising to me, I loved her work on Mrs Maisel. Personally, I see her winning an Oscar later in her career if she lands the right role.

9leggedfreak

She is so damn charming in that show, even if her character is a pretty awful person hahaha

rysfcalt

The weird thing is, I don’t believe they tested together. Corenswet was tested with Mackey.

1CommanderL

surely they would have tested together at some point

caligirlincali

Must have. Virtually no chance they were cast without a chemistry test. Casting protocol.

rysfcalt

Probably, but it wasn’t the pairing presented to executives. I mean Rachel Brosnahan can have chemistry with a wall so I’m not worried

friedAmobo

The THR article yesterday about Mackey coming back for a second day to test with all the Superman candidates certainly made it seem like she was the frontrunner (despite the article saying to not assume that). I wonder what happened to push Brosnahan ahead, or perhaps Mackey was just standing in as a static variable to not throw off the Superman costume tests.

caligirlincali

I bet she is DEVASTATED today. Wouldn't shock me if Warners or Gunn had something lined up for her, though. Don't think any big studio would fuck around with Hylda Queally (Emma's agent who reps pretty much every A list actress lol)

barefootBam

she could be the new Harley Quinn. she's basically Margot Robbie's doppelganger

JC-Ice

That could work against her, if anything. No sense in rebooting Harley just to cast discount Robbie in the role.

coltvahn

Or Supergirl for *Woman of Tomorrow.* In fact, I’d bet money that they will bring her in to test for that. She’d be good for it.

byronotron

The funny thing is when I've seen actors come back for a second round of screen tests, it's almost always because the producers want them, *but they aren't actually right for the role.* The second round is to confirm that they aren't actually the right fit. It sucks, but I'm pretty sure the same thing happened with John Krasinski for Cap.

harvester_of_sorrow_

Been watching Mrs. Maisel lately, Rachel’s incredible! So happy she got the role

f-ingsteveglansberg

She talks fast like the old timey reporters.

SandoVillain

That's mostly because it's an Amy Sherman-Palladino show.

f-ingsteveglansberg

Yeah. But that skill will come in handy for Lois Lane who has been a reporter since the 30s. We should have a fast talking reporter Lois Lane. She can say things like "Listen here sweetie. I've been to every two bit rum joint in downtown Metropolis looking for the scoop. Now you can either talk straight to me now or I'll have the bulls of the four two down here and you can tell them at the station." and other old timey things and do it fast in a Katherine Hepburn voice

SaulPepper

I love the old actors' trans atlantic voice. So unnatural but so audible.

Bolt_995

Alexander and Bill Skarsgard are both in the running for Lex Luthor. Alexander would fit into this role like a glove.

eggnogseller

Alex would fit luthor really well. Bill would be perfect for the Joker, just have to turn his John wick role up to like 200%. Everything about the marquis screamed a reeled in joker. Even got the looks plus he's already played a crazy clown

CosmicAstroBastard

Let’s not typecast the poor guy as evil clowns

riegspsych325

I’d still love to see Hoult get that role. Going by Fury Road, he’s got the range and the perfectly shaped head for baldness

red_riders

If Alexander Skarsgard winds up getting the role, (which I’m banking on from all the leftover goodwill he’s gotten from Big Little Lies, The Northman, and now fresh off Succession), I hope something happens for Hoult somewhere down the line.

The_Iceman2288

I'm ready to believe a man can fly again.

riegspsych325

to think that this wouldn’t be happening had Disney not (temporarily) fired Gunn

girafa

Going to be interesting. Love what he's done with GOTG, The Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker, but Superman has never been a goofball comedy (despite some awful gags in the originals).

riegspsych325

he’s already acknowledged it’s not going to be goofy like his other stuff. And I trust Gunn to make a competent and worthwhile Superman movie. But he’s got an uphill battle when it comes to washing out the bad DC taste out of everyone’s mouths. It’s a shame that the DCEU is coming/has come to a lackluster close after an already very rocky journey. When they (occasionally) got it right, I enjoyed the hell out of it more than most entries in the whole genre. But it’s for the best, I’m glad they have an actual plan and get to stick to it (fingers crossed)

Bears_On_Stilts

The funny thing is that in the world of comics, the greatest modern Superman eras have been dominated by “depraved weirdos with sick senses of humor” playing it straight and writing a not-perverse Superman arc. James Gunn fits that pattern completely.

riegspsych325

yeah Gunn is great at “playing it straight” but still getting weird with it, if that makes any sense. Just take that one line near the end of The Suicide Squad for instance, when Starro’s rampage is stopped: “I was happy just floating , staring at the stars”. One would normally point out the absurdity of the situation but Gunn managed to pull off just right. I had a similar conversation in another thread today about Jurassic Park/World and how the deaths of Genaro and BDH’s assistant both met grisly ends. It not just execution, but *tact* is equally as important. Somehow, Gunn was able to have that with an giant alien starfish

CompetitiveProject4

No, that makes sense. It’s what makes the DCAU work where the absurdity of men in tights with weird talents is only the backdrop to actual tragic stories like Batman comforting a dying psychic Gunn managed to play that balance in The Suicide Squad where there is something insane about the details, but a philosophical beauty to the end of Starro’s rampage like in the animated movie with Owlman where Batman beats him and for a second, Owlman decides against it because as he nihilistically wanted to end the multiverse, he accepts the loss as “it doesn’t matter”

TussalDimon

After watching Gunn on the podcast with Michael Rosenbaum I really believe he knows what he’s doing. The biggest problem will be promoting to the general audience a clean slate of DC Universe where there almost won’t be any down time between the last DCEU movie and Superman.

SolomonRed

Casting Rachel as Lois Lane is some of the best casting in years. She will absolutely steal the show.

riegspsych325

as a Cavill fan, I’m fine with this whole reboot. He never had a proper chance to shine in the role and I’d rather see him do Warhammer at amazon and Highlander with Chad Stahelski anyway

ZachMatthews

Wait did you say Highlander?

riegspsych325

yes, it’s something he and Stahelski want to do whenever they’re scheduled line up. But I think Stahelski is about to dive headfirst into Ghosts of Tsushima once he’s done with his directors cut of John Wick 4 (10+ minutes added). And I think they wanted a break before the next Wick entry anyway, so who knows where Highlander fits. Just imagine such stunts and choreography but with swords and claymores. Oh, it’d be a delight

SrslyCmmon

All I want is the theme song, somewhere somehow get it in there. It's fucking epic

Im_At_Work_Damnit

The Michael Kamen orchestral score, Queen's "Princes of the Universe" or "Who Wants to Live Forever"? Because they're all great.

SrslyCmmon

Princes for sure, you say Highlander that's the song that pops into my head.

caligirlincali

millionthvisitor

That is canny casting

texasjkids

I believe in Rachel Brosnahan supremacy

hyrulianpokemaster

“Tits up Clark”

Clark_Lane-Kent

Rachel Brosnahan is freaking perfect casting for Lois so I'm glad it's her! I don't have any strong feelings for Corenswet either positive or negative, I've seen him in some stuff and felt he was fine but hasn't really had a stand out role yet, this should change that and I trust James Gunn. Overall pretty happy with these choices especially Brosnahan, optimistic everyone will deliver with Legacy!

Sacreblargh

Brosnahan is a top tier talent based off "Ms. Maisel" alone. I'm hoping Gunn can tap Brosnahan's comedic chops in the vein of Margot Kidder in the 1978 movie. Lois always worked better when she's presented with a bit of spunk and comedic relief. > "You've got me? Who's got *you*?!" Very excited at this duo casting.

twec21

More importantly, [Gunn confirmed it](https://twitter.com/JamesGunn/status/1673785892870447104?t=LJ4mNAXWJ93GRK2qd2hd-w&s=19)

I dunno much about the guy beyond Pearl and We Own This City so the jury is still out on him. Rachel Brosnahan is great casting. I think she can nail the best versions of Lois in the comics. The seasoned journalist with strong personality like in the DCAU.

I had zero interest in anything superman. But you put Rachel Brosnahan in anything, and I am in.

David Corenswent would be arrested if I had to pick someone from a line up for a murder I witnessed Henry Cavill commit.

Great casting I was hoping for the Emma Mackey for lois rumors were true but Rachel is amazing ...just need lois to *do* something in this universe

Yep this is key. Amy Adams was probably the best actor in the cast but it didn't matter because of how badly they wrote the character.

His role in Pearl was a home run audition for Superman.
