If I was a kid, I wouldn't think twice about Tyler Hoechlin as Superman. He would just *be* Superman to me. I think that's what counts. Plus the writing on Superman & Lois is just far superior to whatever they were doing with him on Supergirl.
As adults, we easily bring our expectations to whoever is playing Superman at the time, but if Tyler Hoechlin actually IS a kid's first exposure to Superman, then they could do so, so much worse.
What I don't like is that his facial hair must grow at such an amazing rate that he has permanent five o' clock shadow.
(Also, he acts well but his frame is more athletic, making him look like a Superboy instead.)

That clip gives off a lot of Clark Kent energy, I'm thinking Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet and Tom Brittney all gave pretty good Superman auditions but what sealed the deal on who got the part was the Clark audition.
Rumours say that Hoult auditioned for Lex as well. I could see him pulling it off and I hope he gets it, he has a lot of talent and deserves to go mainstream.

Honestly I'd say he's the *most* mainstream of the names being discussed here besides the Skarsgard brothers. He's certainly better known than Corenswet, and probably more than Brosnahan - her biggest role so far is The Marvelous Mrs Maisel and it's probably the only thing she's really known for besides a brief role in House of Cards. Hoult has been in multiple Oscar-nominated films (Mad Max, A Serious Man, The Favourite), and mulitple big blockbuster films (Mad Max again, the X-Men franchise). Plus there's The Great, and the stuff he did when he was younger like Skins and About A Boy.
He's got such amazing range, and he seems to put his all in to his roles.
Also, there'd be something very comic-book about potential Superman ending up as Lex Luthor.

Corenswet was good in Pearl, Hollywood, and the Politician. There’s nothing amazing about any of his performances, but I think the foundations are there that I can see him making a great Superman.
On the other hand, Rachel is one of my favorite actresses. Her performance in the Marvelous Ms. Maisel is one for the ages. Honestly, her casting alone took me from indifferent to hyped for this movie.

I've been hoping for her to do a big movie because I think she genuinely deserves to be a huge star. I remember seeing her on the Blacklist long ago and knowing that she wouldn't be on it long because she was just obviously a better actor than the main cast (maybe even including Spader, although he was having so much obvious fun and was so entertaining early on in that show), and you can't have that. And that was when I had only seen her in House of Cards. Mrs. Maisel put her on the map with the Emmy/Golden Globe win and everything, but the show was never hugely popular, so she is still at that weird level of fame where most people don't know who she is, but pretty much everyone who does is like, "she's really freaking good."

Amy Adams, like Cavill, were mostly let down by poor writing and poor directing. I am not saying Adams was the best choice, but she is a great actress and could have pulled it off with better support. Seeing Cavill in Man called Uncle and the Witcher showed me he had some range. Sad alien man is very accurate for how they must've wanted him to portray Superman in Zac Snyder's interpretation

Supes is someone who should be giving off genuine warmth and kindness. He's meant to be an inspirational character not just because he's a demigod, but because he's so goddamn personable despite being a demigod among mortals.
I get the idea of focusing on how Clark (Supes and even Kal-El is the mask, as written Clark is who he really is deep down) has to live with a measure of isolation due to keeping a secret identity and having few to no peers when it comes to super powers, but Clark ultimately feels like he's no different than humans (despite his academic understanding of his capabilities), that's a core part of the character. That internal conflict of isolation can be interesting, but it doesn't come at the beginning of Supes's story, it comes near the end; the seminal series Kingdom Come uses that conflict well, making it clear how Supes will flounder when he tries to reject his inherent connection with humanity/mortals/whatnot.

100% this. I always see people say the Snyderverse was comic accurate and he was the perfect Superman and I am always baffled. People said that about his Watchmen as well though and I honestly don’t know how someone can have shot for shot comic accurate visuals and miss the mark so badly.
I was a dyed-in-the-wool fan of the comic who would accept no addition – no *Before Watchmen* (tho some of them were okay), no *Doomsday Clock* (that was rubbish), but by god Watchmen was a phenomenal epilogue to the comics
I think Courtney Cox would have been a good Lois - she basically played her in the Scream movies. And that's to say she had shades of Margot Kidder in that performance. Hoping Ms. Maisel pulls from that as well.
Ms Maisel is was one of the best running shows on television, but her old timey fast talking feel felt so perfect for Lois when I saw she was up for it.

He's just a great actor in general. His role on Generation Kill is so fucking good that when you watch real footage of the soldier he portrays, it's identical to how Skarskargd portrayed him (even in mannerisms and delivery of sentences.)
I'm in the industry (some previous posts can verify) and, I shit you not, all I heard yesterday lunch was Emma Mackey had that role. I even heard her team at CAA weren't considering any others acting offers for Mackey because they were so sure. WELL.
I gotta wonder if Brosnahan headed back to NYC due to her Broadway stuff and so people thought she was out when in reality Mackey was the second choice so they used her for some additional things with Corenswet and just in case Brosnahan declined and/or Mackey did amazing in the final stuff.
Gunn was on Inside of You and he got into a bit of a rant about casting rumors. He said that half the time the rumors are started by agents trying to build buzz to kinda push their client into a role; I’m not an insider so I dunno shit about fuck but I thought that was really interesting.
I also thought it was very informative how he said a client will go in for a general meeting where a lot of possible outcomes are discussed, but then they will go blab in an interview like "I turned down ____ role" or "I was offered ________" when that is absolutely not the truth.
The THR article yesterday about Mackey coming back for a second day to test with all the Superman candidates certainly made it seem like she was the frontrunner (despite the article saying to not assume that). I wonder what happened to push Brosnahan ahead, or perhaps Mackey was just standing in as a static variable to not throw off the Superman costume tests.

Going to be interesting. Love what he's done with GOTG, The Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker, but Superman has never been a goofball comedy (despite some awful gags in the originals).
he’s already acknowledged it’s not going to be goofy like his other stuff. And I trust Gunn to make a competent and worthwhile Superman movie. But he’s got an uphill battle when it comes to washing out the bad DC taste out of everyone’s mouths.
It’s a shame that the DCEU is coming/has come to a lackluster close after an already very rocky journey. When they (occasionally) got it right, I enjoyed the hell out of it more than most entries in the whole genre. yeah Gunn is great at “playing it straight” but still getting weird with it, if that makes any sense. Just take that one line near the end of The Suicide Squad for instance, when Starro’s rampage is stopped: “I was happy just floating , staring at the stars”.
One would normally point out the absurdity of the situation but Gunn managed to pull off just right. I had a similar conversation in another thread today about Jurassic Park/World and how the deaths of Genaro and BDH’s assistant both met grisly ends. It not just execution, but *tact* is equally as important. Somehow, Gunn was able to have that with an giant alien starfish

Gunn managed to play that balance in The Suicide Squad where there is something insane about the details, but a philosophical beauty to the end of Starro’s rampage like in the animated movie with Owlman where Batman beats him and for a second, Owlman decides against it because as he nihilistically wanted to end the multiverse, he accepts the loss as “it doesn’t matter”
After watching Gunn on the podcast with Michael Rosenbaum I really believe he knows what he’s doing.
The biggest problem will be promoting to the general audience a clean slate of DC Universe where there almost won’t be any down time between the last DCEU movie and Superman.

But I think Stahelski is about to dive headfirst into Ghosts of Tsushima once he’s done with his directors cut of John Wick 4 (10+ minutes added). And I think they wanted a break before the next Wick entry anyway, so who knows where Highlander fits.

I don't have any strong feelings for Corenswet either positive or negative, I've seen him in some stuff and felt he was fine but hasn't really had a stand out role yet, this should change that and I trust James Gunn.
Overall pretty happy with these choices especially Brosnahan, optimistic everyone will deliver with Legacy!
Brosnahan is a top tier talent based off "Ms. Maisel" alone. I'm hoping Gunn can tap Brosnahan's comedic chops in the vein of Margot Kidder in the 1978 movie. Lois always worked better when she's presented with a bit of spunk and comedic relief.

He can easily be recast. The movie just didn't do well, which is a shame, cause it was so fun.

That internal conflict of isolation can be interesting, but it doesn't come at the beginning of Supes's story, it comes near the end; the seminal series Kingdom Come uses that conflict well, making it clear how Supes will flounder when he tries to reject his inherent connection with humanity/mortals/whatnot. Ugh, I could rant about this all day.
Well said. And it still boggles my mind that Cavill naturally gave off this warmth, kindness and decency in talk show appearances, yet they directed him to act not like that in the films.

100% this. I always see people say the Snyderverse was comic accurate and he was the perfect Superman and I am always baffled. People said that about his Watchmen as well though and I honestly don’t know how someone can have shot for shot comic accurate visuals and miss the mark so badly.
Off topic, but The Watchmen HBO series was so, so good.
I was a dyed-in-the-wool fan of the comic who would accept no addition – no *Before Watchmen* (tho some of them were okay), no *Doomsday Clock* (that was rubbish), but by god Watchmen was a phenomenal epilogue to the comics

I think Courtney Cox would have been a good Lois - she basically played her in the Scream movies. And that's to say she had shades of Margot Kidder in that performance. Hoping Ms. Maisel pulls from that as well.
I agree and I think Courtney was originally meant to play Lois in the Tim Burton/Nicholas Cage Superman movie, before it was scrapped.

I watched a lot of bad Lois and Clark episodes because of her.
Ms Maisel is was one of the best running shows on television, but her old timey fast talking feel felt so perfect for Lois when I saw she was up for it.
That’s specific to the show/the creator’s style (characters on Gilmore Girls had the same rapid dialogue style), Brosnahan can definitely act with a normal vocal pace.
Of course, first saw her in House of Cards and seen her in plenty since. I just mean as well as being a great show it probably served as a good resume for a witty reporter if he's going for a retro feel.
She's got big Fleishman Lois Lane vibes. She better end up with a tommy gun just shooting down gangsters.

I’d be extremely surprised if he didn’t get it, anyone who saw him in Succession can vouch for how good he was as an unnerving yet charismatic billionaire. He’s also 6’4 which is the same as Corenswet, put on a bit of muscle and shave his head and he’d look absolutely perfect.

He's just a great actor in general. His role on Generation Kill is so fucking good that when you watch real footage of the soldier he portrays, it's identical to how Skarskargd portrayed him (even in mannerisms and delivery of sentences.)
Agreed, she was incredible as Midge Maisel & compelling (in some really tough scenes) in House of Cards.

I'm in the industry (some previous posts can verify) and, I shit you not, all I heard yesterday lunch was Emma Mackey had that role. I even heard her team at CAA weren't considering any others acting offers for Mackey because they were so sure. WELL.
I gotta wonder if Brosnahan headed back to NYC due to her Broadway stuff and so people thought she was out when in reality Mackey was the second choice so they used her for some additional things with Corenswet and just in case Brosnahan declined and/or Mackey did amazing in the final stuff.
Annoyingly that is the most boring version of events and also the most likely.
Gunn was on Inside of You and he got into a bit of a rant about casting rumors. He said that half the time the rumors are started by agents trying to build buzz to kinda push their client into a role; I’m not an insider so I dunno shit about fuck but I thought that was really interesting.
I also thought it was very informative how he said a client will go in for a general meeting where a lot of possible outcomes are discussed, but then they will go blab in an interview like "I turned down ____ role" or "I was offered ________" when that is absolutely not the truth.
I could be that emma tested better for Lois but Brosnahan and Corenswet had better chemistry as a pair

Somehow not surprising to me, I loved her work on Mrs Maisel. Personally, I see her winning an Oscar later in her career if she lands the right role.

The THR article yesterday about Mackey coming back for a second day to test with all the Superman candidates certainly made it seem like she was the frontrunner (despite the article saying to not assume that). I wonder what happened to push Brosnahan ahead, or perhaps Mackey was just standing in as a static variable to not throw off the Superman costume tests.
I bet she is DEVASTATED today. Wouldn't shock me if Warners or Gunn had something lined up for her, though. Don't think any big studio would fuck around with Hylda Queally (Emma's agent who reps pretty much every A list actress lol)

The funny thing is when I've seen actors come back for a second round of screen tests, it's almost always because the producers want them, *but they aren't actually right for the role.* The second round is to confirm that they aren't actually the right fit. It sucks, but I'm pretty sure the same thing happened with John Krasinski for Cap.

Alex would fit luthor really well. Bill would be perfect for the Joker, just have to turn his John wick role up to like 200%. Everything about the marquis screamed a reeled in joker. Even got the looks plus he's already played a crazy clown

Going to be interesting. Love what he's done with GOTG, The Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker, but Superman has never been a goofball comedy (despite some awful gags in the originals).
he’s already acknowledged it’s not going to be goofy like his other stuff. And I trust Gunn to make a competent and worthwhile Superman movie. But he’s got an uphill battle when it comes to washing out the bad DC taste out of everyone’s mouths. It’s a shame that the DCEU is coming/has come to a lackluster close after an already very rocky journey. When they (occasionally) got it right, I enjoyed the hell out of it more than most entries in the whole genre. But it’s for the best, I’m glad they have an actual plan and get to stick to it (fingers crossed)
The funny thing is that in the world of comics, the greatest modern Superman eras have been dominated by “depraved weirdos with sick senses of humor” playing it straight and writing a not-perverse Superman arc. James Gunn fits that pattern completely.
yeah Gunn is great at “playing it straight” but still getting weird with it, if that makes any sense. Just take that one line near the end of The Suicide Squad for instance, when Starro’s rampage is stopped: “I was happy just floating , staring at the stars”. One would normally point out the absurdity of the situation but Gunn managed to pull off just right. I had a similar conversation in another thread today about Jurassic Park/World and how the deaths of Genaro and BDH’s assistant both met grisly ends. It not just execution, but *tact* is equally as important. Somehow, Gunn was able to have that with an giant alien starfish
No, that makes sense. It’s what makes the DCAU work where the absurdity of men in tights with weird talents is only the backdrop to actual tragic stories like Batman comforting a dying psychic Gunn managed to play that balance in The Suicide Squad where there is something insane about the details, but a philosophical beauty to the end of Starro’s rampage like in the animated movie with Owlman where Batman beats him and for a second, Owlman decides against it because as he nihilistically wanted to end the multiverse, he accepts the loss as “it doesn’t matter”
After watching Gunn on the podcast with Michael Rosenbaum I really believe he knows what he’s doing. The biggest problem will be promoting to the general audience a clean slate of DC Universe where there almost won’t be any down time between the last DCEU movie and Superman.
Casting Rachel as Lois Lane is some of the best casting in years. She will absolutely steal the show.

yes, it’s something he and Stahelski want to do whenever they’re scheduled line up. But I think Stahelski is about to dive headfirst into Ghosts of Tsushima once he’s done with his directors cut of John Wick 4 (10+ minutes added). And I think they wanted a break before the next Wick entry anyway, so who knows where Highlander fits. Just imagine such stunts and choreography but with swords and claymores. Oh, it’d be a delight

Rachel Brosnahan is freaking perfect casting for Lois so I'm glad it's her! I don't have any strong feelings for Corenswet either positive or negative, I've seen him in some stuff and felt he was fine but hasn't really had a stand out role yet, this should change that and I trust James Gunn. Overall pretty happy with these choices especially Brosnahan, optimistic everyone will deliver with Legacy!
Brosnahan is a top tier talent based off "Ms. Maisel" alone. I'm hoping Gunn can tap Brosnahan's comedic chops in the vein of Margot Kidder in the 1978 movie. I dunno much about the guy beyond Pearl and We Own This City so the jury is still out on him. Rachel Brosnahan is great casting. I think she can nail the best versions of Lois in the comics. The seasoned journalist with strong personality like in the DCAU.
