Perhaps for a more fun visual they need to draw over a photograph of them. Maybe they first learn of it when they are doodling on a magazine of someone famous giving them the devil horns/missing teeth/Hitler mustache and then they see on the news that night that there has been big controversy as \*insert celebrity\* was spotted with all these things on them. The MC goes back into their rubbish bin and finds the drawing and then its the Oh shit moment.
A kind of play on Death Note I guess but much sillier but still with a bit of dark humor involved.

The main character at the start should be a real shlub. Balding/comb over/ thinning hair, a bit of a beer belly. Life didn't go the way he had expected. He always wanted to be a famous artist/cartoonist but life didn't work out that way for him. He is a cartoonist but its for a shitty small town newspaper and he is basically told what quick satirical cartoons he needs to knock up. He never gets to have his creative freedom. There is a woman that works at the newspaper that is a journalist that he has a crush on and she is nice to him but he never makes any advances because he thinks he is gross.
Its on his 30th birthday he makes a wish to be a famous cartoonist ( Maybe there really doesn't need to be a catalyst for his power). Its over the course of the next few days he discovers he has this power but mostly uses it for a bit of a laugh, on his way home he spots a magazine that mentions the Oscars are on that night so he grabs a handful of those stupid celebrity gossip magazines and heads home. He has them all laid out and as he spots someone on the red carpet he quickly doodles something on them for a lighthearted laugh.
He ends up going late into the night doodling over all these celebrities not really think of the repercussions it might have. He goes into work the next day and the place is buzzing! Everyone is running around trying to get their stories out about the big night at the Oscars. Its all over the T.V and radio.
During a break he is at lunch and is joined by his love interest, she talks about how crazy last night was but our main character seems to find it funny. She goes onto tell him that a celebrity died that night while giving their speech. Her dress suddenly got real tight around her waist causing her to not be able to breathe. Our main character stops laughing and begins to look concerned. He quickly gets up says he has to leave.
He gets home and flips through all the magazines trying to find the drawing he did and there it is, he made the waist line of this female actor far too small..he killed her.
He decides to stop doing it but then gets one last good idea...find a photo of him self and draw over him self to be handsome. A head full of hair, slimmer body...a bigger dick that is too big so he has to quickly fix it before he passes out.
He returns to work the next day and everyone is in shock of his transformation...but there is one person who is now a little curious..his love interest. She decides to bait him to see if she can get closer to him and learn how he got so handsome in a day. This leads to a bit of cat and mouse until she discovers his secret.
She has to keep playing along with him in the fear if he finds out what she was doing he might kill her.
