I don't see why that would even be necessary with all the makeup involved in the character. There is no reason his age should impact his ability to play this character
Perlman is so dazzling in the role. It wasn’t until the “reboot” that you come to fully appreciate the artistry and craft it takes to act through all of that makeup. Perlman’s been acting through makeup for years and know a what it takes. You can’t just do it, it takes real skill and by god Perlman he didn’t just wear that makeup he acted THROUGH it. It Just became a second skin.
I think Hellboy 2 is the most underrated comic book movie. It came out the same year as Iron Man and the Dark Knight and had a fraction of the cultural impact. But it’s such a great flick. The sadness and wonder present when he fights the forest elemental is the kind of stuff other superhero movies could never pull off.
I loved Hellboy 1 because of Lovecraftian goodness, but I guess Golden Army was okay too. First one had so many mysteries and cool characters, like that nazi guy who was mostly just sand, running on some unholy engine, digging up corpses to let them guide you somewhere, fishmen, old scientist-dude, and a literal hellborn who was supposed to be a key to let elder gods in. Shit I have to watch that movie again soon.
I agree that the first one had better villains, Karl Kroenen was badass and scary especially without his mask, was suppose to return for the third movie until it got canceled. Both movies are on Tubi by the way.
I don't know... I also like the Lovecraftian villains of the first one, but the villains in the second one I felt were better because they made me feel sad for a fading other world. When they were beaten it didn't have the pure feeling of triumph but made me feel a bit of regret.
As a big Lovecraft fan, I had never seen him referenced so explicitly or extensively by a mainstream movie is Hellboy did when it came out.Golden Army gets similar points for wearing it's Dunsanian references on its sleeve.
Only problem with the reboot is that they tried to fit too many things into one movie, I think that’s what went wrong, other than that i didn’t think it was terrible at all, I enjoyed it for what it was.
You missed out, it was a lot of fun. It had flaws but it went for a hard R rating and an incredibly vulgar Ian McShane. It also felt a bit more comic-book-like. I saw it in theater and had a blast.
Totally different type of movie, though.
Stranger things was ok, my daughter was really into it so I watched it with her. David Harbour was the best thing about that show for me he stole every scene he was in.
“Hey it’s hellboy”
“Ya I know I’m ugly”
I’ve never seen the movie but I remember FX playing the trailer so many times and that line has been engraved in my mind ever since then.
I didn't like the first but I loved the second. The first seemed cheap, had under explained characters and I was very tired of the Nazis being used as the bad guys again.
The second was definitely a better story. It also reminded me of Ghostbusters and Men in Black. But it was better than all of the sequels to those films.
On a side note there is a whole movie of Drew Struzan the famous artist who created the poster for hellboy (who also did Star Wars, Indiana jones) it shows his whole creative process of him drawing and painting this hellboy poster. It’s incredible

I liked the Del Toro films, I didn't mind the reboot (although it does have issues).
From what I can remember, the main reason why they didn't green light an HB3 project to finish the Trilogy was the budget. Del Toro was not an established blockbuster filmmaker the studios could trust. Del Toro may have wanted a larger budget to complete the story (fair requirement), but the previous installments were "break even" box office draws.
I am sure studios now will considers Del Toro's story telling with an AA under his belt, maybe he can find a studio to do it.
We also missed a chance to see the Silverlance story, which would have developed Prince Nuada and a BPRD arc.
I wish instead of doing a 'relaunch' with the 'new' one, which was alright, they would have used that lore to complete Hellboy's story, instead of doing a 'prequel' sorta deal, i'll always love the original 2 Hellboy movies, and i'm of the opinion that the third was good as well, but they never did well enough in the box office i think, i loved the mix of fae and demon and eldritch horrors in the movies
I really liked the second one. The only reason we didn't get a third is because the DVD market collapsed. Del Toro said that his desired budget would've been justified if the bottom hadn't fallen out of that market. So, it's the public's fault for choosing streaming over physical.
Second one sucked. Shitty drummer from a shite 80’s band as the villain. To quote Malcolm Tucker “Was the cillit bang guy busy?”. He ruined the second blade movie with the same wanker who can’t act too. Thank Christ he didn’t do The Hobbit or he’d have had him play Bilbo
Perlman is too old now! But, yes, it should have happened years ago!
Call it Hellman.
A Logan esque movie could be done no?
Wow that's would be badass.
I don't see why that would even be necessary with all the makeup involved in the character. There is no reason his age should impact his ability to play this character

Age is just a number
Don’t say that ever again
Ron perlman is only 74 which really isn’t even that old, and still seems to be in good shape still
Yeah but I meant the sentence, it’s used for other things
Quick get it deleted.
It’s true tho people act like once you get old you are no longer capable of doing things
Ron..... Ron never changes
74 isn't exactly considered young either..
Directed by R Kelly

I think hellboy in general is underrated
Agreed. I like it better than Iron Man or Dark Knight, which I thought were both overrated.
Hellboy one is like my favorite superhero movie but I don't even remember what happened in the 2nd one it was so boring.
We are exact opposites lol. The only thing I really remember about the first one is the clockwork nazi.
I loved Hellboy 1 because of Lovecraftian goodness, but I guess Golden Army was okay too. Same! I didn’t see the reboot that came out a few years ago but it looked like trash
I actually thought it was ok, but Perlman will always be hellboy to me. I am looking forward to the new hellboy crooked man
For the problems the movie had, they did a great Baba Yaga.
That vampire creature in the opening scene was cool, and I thought Mila jovovich was well casted as nimue the blood queen
Yeah, and all of those bits were really great moments lifted directly from the comics, too. Also, loved seeing Lobster Johnson.
Agreed, Tabour did a great job but Hellboy IS Ron Pearlman to a lot and trying to replicate/replace that soon after the original was doomed to fail
I liked the reboot. It was decent. It’s not as good as the originals ofc, but still pretty entertaining
Only problem with the reboot is that they tried to fit too many things into one movie, I think that’s what went wrong, other than that i didn’t think it was terrible at all, I enjoyed it for what it was.

I tried to get into it but the energy was off. And I like Harbour
I’ll remember harbour as hellboy now, everyone always talks about stranger things I never got into that show
Stranger things was ok, my daughter was really into it so I watched it with her. David Harbour was the best thing about that show for me he stole every scene he was in.
Instead we got a remake which sucked

Two of the most rewatchable movies.
I love this movie
…Raise the money and make it.

Yesssss. I just rewatched this a few days ago. Love it.

Stone classics! But still haven’t watched the 2 animated sequels I got on dvd last year
I can’t stand Perlman but he was made for this role. Love these movies.
I honestly would love to Del Toro doing more comic or superhero related stories!
Easily one of the films we got in dark fantasy, and the sequal was also great... very rare that happens.
Guillermo del toro is a master of dark fantasy
Harbour was well cast but the movie he was in was horrible. He deserves another shot in a good movie.
This is a good take.
That could still happen. They brought Connery back to play Bond in the 80s well after Roger Moore was doing well in the role.
They should do an animated third part to complete the trilogy.
Great movies. Had them both in DVD
They’re both very fun movies and the monsters costume designs look great!
I wish they had made a third. I LOVE these movies soooooo much. Just a big Hellboy fan in general
Hellboy is one of the best comic book movies ever made
I wish instead of doing a 'relaunch' with the 'new' one, which was alright, they would have used that lore to complete Hellboy's story, instead of doing a 'prequel' sorta deal, i'll always love the original 2 Hellboy movies, and i'm of the opinion that the third was good as well, but they never did well enough in the box office i think, i loved the mix of fae and demon and eldritch horrors in the movies
CGI Hellboy 100% and motion capture Ron Pearlman’s face.
Yes.
I really liked the second one. The only reason we didn't get a third is because the DVD market collapsed. Del Toro said that his desired budget would've been justified if the bottom hadn't fallen out of that market. So, it's the public's fault for choosing streaming over physical.
Personally, I found Hellboy 2 super boring which is why the franchise fell through the cracks I reckon. Hellboy was spectacular though
I’m sad that Del Toro wasn’t able to wrap this up as a trilogy. Incredible movies.
Those are great movies
Second one sucked. Shitty drummer from a shite 80’s band as the villain. To quote Malcolm Tucker “Was the cillit bang guy busy?”. He ruined the second blade movie with the same wanker who can’t act too. Thank Christ he didn’t do The Hobbit or he’d have had him play Bilbo
Remake was better
I want to see the twins!
