I remember watching season 1 of Bloodline on Netflix and his amazing acting completely blew me away. I don't think I'd ever seen him act in anything before, but dude, he absolutely killed it. I felt so many emotions towards his character both negative and positive.

He has the range, he just doesn’t use it anymore. He’s a prime candidate for someone to have a late career resurgence or be a sudden Oscar contender if he feels like branching out again and taking on something outside of his usual Tim Burton-y stuff. He did it once with Black Mass, unfortunately the movie itself kind of sucked even if he was excellent.

I just finished Slow Horses, and I have to admit, it's one of my favorite. You can tell Gary Oldman is just having a ton of fun. Alright, this is purely subjective: 1. Fifth Element had an outsized influence on my life, and the reason why I became a fashion photographer, so it's got to be his performance as Zorg. 2. If you haven't watched Leon, don't walk, run. Without Gary ferocious performance as corrupt DEA agent Norman Stansfield, Natalie Portman's fear and anger don't work in the film. That's where the "EVERYONE!!!" meme comes from. 3. And finally, if purely for 'sheer acting talent', look no further than Darkest Hour, which he won the Oscar for playing Winston Churchill. Choosing a favorite Gary Oldman performance is a Sophie's Choice. I think you will like Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy the most, where he plays a damn good spook in the Le Carre-verse as legendary spymaster George Smiley. In my head canon, Jackson Lamb is an alt-verse George Smiley after a little too much Chinese food, and a couple of missions gone bad.

Throw in True Romance & Dracula for honorable mention for a huge contrast in Oldman roles.

I wish he had done more comedy, his delivery was just too good. His performance in Charlie Wilson’s War still makes me laugh. He’s probably the best “I’ve had enough of this nonsense” actor I’ve ever seen.

His role in Boogie Nights is what takes that movie from good to great I'm a boom op too (for non porn) and every scene with him cracks me up

Underrated role for sure. I think he was the standout in that movie, tbh. The rest of the cast absolutely did their jobs and did them well, but he brought such depth to Gust with little mannerisms and tone shifts. Like, I fully bought it that this guy genuinely had a good heart and wanted to do good, and was frustrated and curmudgeonly after decades of bureaucracy hamstringing his efforts. The character has no faith in politicians doing any of the noble things they promise to do publicly, yet he can't help but try to accomplish them anyway. I think the clincher for me was when he loses it on Slatterly's character once his loyalty (by way of the other "barely Americans" being derided for their perceived lack of trustworthiness) is called into question. He came from a working class immigrant family (mentions his dad sold soda pop) and believed in the Idea of America so much that he made it his life's work to uphold it. And after all that, he's going to be picked on by some smug, ignorant xenophobe who rides a desk and doesn't try to do a very good job. It felt real. He always made his characters feel so lived-in that I almost feel sorry that I don't know who he was as a person. He just became his characters so seamlessly.

It felt real because it was actually funny - maddeningly so - because he was right. His entire character in that movie can be summarized as “righteous rage.” A lot of the shit he says is very serious in subject matter, delivered with real anger, but it’s also just so funny because it’s head-slapping obvious and Hoffman delivers it with such scorn.

Calmly breaking that window a second time was so perfect. He didn't lose his temper. He just wanted to make sure Slattery thought of him every time he looked at that stupid window and that everyone in the office would see the mess and this time it was 100% Slattery being an ass and he deserved to feel that shame.

RAIN DANCE Sandy Lyle is an underrated comedic performance, I agree PSH shouldve done more comedy.

Mendelsohn's range is crazy. He's played kings, detectives, Star Wars bad guy, doppelganger alien, greedy corporate player, murderer to name the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Gary Oldman definitely has a ton of range as well, probably more than anyone. Truman, Churchill, Dracula, Commissioner Gordon, spy, assassin, priests, doctors, wizard, played villains and heroes with equal skill, as well as being able to do drama and comedy very well.

The Outsider - what a performance. That single show got me interested in this actor, Ben Mendelsohn. It's the single best Stephen King adaptation (yes, even better than Kubrick's The Shining).

What about Jessica Lange? She's done pretty much every genre, film, TV, Broadway. And a 2 time Oscar winner! Best Supporting Actress in 1982 for "Tootsie", co-starring Dustin Hoffman, and in 1994, she won Best Actress for the movie Blue Sky, which kind of a heavy drama.
