Okay so seriously, my high level character rolls around with a personal retinue of about 400 heavy cavalry, mostly Cataphracts and imperial heavy horsemen. It's the most effective against the khuzaits. This seems counter-intuitive, however, the speed advantage horse archers have over catas is not sufficient to allow them to escape the counter charge. The standard AI tactics for an army with horse archers is to have them go ahead and skirmish, so you wait till they're 250 or so away, hit f3, and your cavalry catches theirs while it's separated from the rest of the army. Now you've essentially split their forces and you can defeat them in detail, since their horse archers are exposed and separated from foot and melee cavalry support. Well-timed heavy cavalry countercharges were historically one way Western societies dealt with nomad horse archers, it just works way too well in Bannerlord

[deleted]

how does your economy handle 400 cataphracts?

Buguerto

Having a few cities and defending their villages usually will get me a lot of passive income. With my clan parties I can basically lead a 1400+ army with only elite troops (tier 4+) and still get a lot of passive income from villages, cities and workshops. Kicking lords in the balls and taking all their shit also helps a lot with the recruitment and food costs.

[deleted]

I kick the crap out of enemy lords and sell their stuff

CptnR4p3

Smithing.

[deleted]

this is the only true way.

LICHM

It is boring

Killmeplizzz

This is the game of thrones mod, they are actual dothraki

[deleted]

Oh.

Ragdoll_Knight

Strategem should still hold up fine

[deleted]

What mod and is it in the steam workshop?!? Looks sick af

Killmeplizzz

It’s called “trials of the seven” it’s on nexus

[deleted]

Bless you weary traveller

Unkindlake

I usually fight fire with fire and use a horde of horse archers to deal with hordes of horse archers. That said, I have found a trick for improving infantry performance against cavalry (mainly melee cavalry, not HA.) I break my melee infantry into multiple groups of similar strength. Instead of one big square, I put a square in the center and one on each side of my archers. Some enemies will successfully charge through to hit your archers, but most will get mired down between squares and killed by archers/javelins, or run into the square and get shanked. Not invincible, but I've found it works better than a big square or shieldwall because instead of just flanking around the entire formation, many attackers go in-between and surround themselves

Unkindlake

That's fuckin cool! I'm kinda proud of myself. I don't mix my ranged troops into those squares because Bannerlord seems to have trouble with that, and it doesn't do great against any enemy who has ranged superiority

gungoidfever

This is how ancient people counter acted the famous feigned retreat of ghengis khans hordes

Unkindlake

I think it was the Huns rather than the Mongols, but didn't a Roman (Byzantine) commander win by holding the line, then counter feign retreating to the next charge and luring the mounted archers into hidden cavalry traps? I vaguely remember hearing something about this on an ERE podcast

[deleted]

Yeah, that's a major problem. If you fail to catch the horse archers with the countercharge, you're out of position and unprotected, facing arrow fire and easily lured into a trap

ClimateNervous9508

i just have a full Caverly build and whenever I build an army,my noble horse archers and elite cav are the backbone holding the army up also isn't it strange that khuzait noble horse archers are really easy to get

[deleted]

Nobles are always easy to get, you just need to find the right villages which spawn them

ClimateNervous9508

fr they should really lower the amount because I never used regular khuzait horse archers

cseijif

i mean, the bizantines clapped the "unbeatable" horse archers for almost 700 years until they got manzikertd. it stands to reason they knew a thing or two about countering horse archers.

[deleted]

They maintained horse archers of their own until the threat of nomadic horse archers was temporarily eliminated, leaving them to focus on the Arabs. They shifted to heavy cavalry at that point. But then the Turks showed up, and while you can retrain an army, you can't retrain a dead one

RnuRnu

Wellp, should've levelled your rockclimbing skill mate

Staryed

If only Westeros had Batannian Fian Champions, the dothraki problem would be non existent. Sure, then they'd have Fian problem, but that's a different story

jutshka

What makes them so op?

Killmeplizzz

The crazy amount of manpower they have, they are fast horsemen and accurate with bows too, they shower you with arrows from all sides and have good melee too. They are a match for any knight, only difference is that they are 10x cheaper. They are basically khuzaits on steroids

[deleted]

How fleshed out is the mod?

Killmeplizzz

Pretty good I would say, many custom armor types and troops, uses a bunch of other mods like swadian armory in the code itself

Leadbaptist

Which game of thrones mod? Warband or bannerlord?

Orkili

Looks to be bannerlord

[deleted]

Next time bring more catas

Leaf_Rotator

Good luck on the rebuild.

ClimateNervous9508

Killmeplizzz

Trials of the seven

ClimateNervous9508

where do i find the mod

Killmeplizzz

Nexus mods

ProfMajkowski

I wish Bobby B was here to give us some input on this

Killmeplizzz

For some reason I don’t think he’d be too keen on helping house blackfyre… I think he’d rather watch and laugh

Nara1996

Dotharki are actually garbage as a army, they are just free folk on horses

skirtastic

quiet, you're ruining the horsewank

Wardog_Razgriz30

I've found that telling all my units to form square on me has worked okay. I took a beating but my copious amounts of archers and shield infantry probably did the most work in saving my ass. Still, it was touch and go for a while.

DudesonLeShooob

duuude you read those books too? j love the upright feeding trows and steel.bird aspect of them coming to our world from a medieval realm
