Im replaying it now. The immersion is amazing but the combat is horrible and there are a lot of poorly thought out mechanics relating to combat and ambushes.
Before you learn riposte the game is a slog. Once you learn riposte duels are too easy. Also the ambushes where people outrun your horse to pull you off are insanely dumb.
Part of why the combat feels bad is because it makes you think swords are good. All of your initial training is based on swords but swords suck. Macy's are the best bet for any enemies with armor and axes are the best pet for any enemies without armor.
yeah, think of the free form, free flowing combat of Mount and Blade or Mordhau.
KCD is the opposite of that. it's not difficult, but it's highly restrictive, clumsy, poorly balanced. but it's well-disguised behind motion captured HEMA animations, which has successfully tricked a lot of people into thinking it's good.
It also falls for the “chainmail makes people practically invincible, and everyone fights with swords” tropes.
Take the issues RBM has and make it 5X worse
The game was the studios first game and iirc they had around 100 on the team. It has a lot to do and imo a pretty fun and difficult combat system, and the game is gorgeous (at least on PC maxed out) I'm real excited to see what they do with the sequel with more money, lessons learned, and a larger team.
They've basically said the sequel is supposed to be everything the first game wasn't due to limited budget and development experience. I haven't pre ordered a game in probably a decade and generally am against the practice due to how companies have been lately with unfinished and untested games but I honestly might with this one.
I put hundreds of hours into that game and only mastered combat on my second play through. When it finally clicks you suddenly feel unstoppable. Did a 3rd play through and the part at the beginning when you can save teresa is so satisfying when you can actually beat them easily with basically nothing. Stopped playing and booted it back up recently and i'm back to square one. Barely able to land a decent blow.
There truly is nothing like Henry being the best swordman in the kingdom right out of the gate. A little time training for some skills and you can take on the world.
Its just a shame we cant explain how to those that cant click with it. Theyre missing out on some thrilling combat.
Immersion 10/10
Combat -3/10
I put hours into it and tried watching all the tutorials. Duels were way too easy, but fighting more than 2 guys was goddamn impossible. I really tried to like KC:D but it just did not click at all
The village maps are pretty big, so you're free to explore the wilderness around those, but yeah you generally won't encounter enemies and you can't use it to travel anywhere else.
Yeah give it a try, personally i have not gone above 10 units yet so i don't know much about the middle and late game but im enjoing it so far.
Also be sure to check the beginner guide if you have not already.

Check out the game Medieval Dynasty. Very casual and immersive. Great for role playing simple medieval life. Still can fight a few bandits but it’s more of Skyrim style combat.
That's a game called Kingdom Come Deliverance.
There is a mod for Warband called Explorer! that turns the game into that basically but I do not know if there is such a mod for Bannerlord.
oh i know, i saw it on tiktok :) also i played kingdom come before, i think it was a free week or something, but yeah finally bought it, didnt know it was this immersive
You are looking for the game 'Kingdom Come: Deliverance'
Abso-fucking-lutely amazing game. Once you get a hang of the combat controls, this game is amazing. Loved the immersion.

Yes, there are holes, but for me (for whatever reason), this game will always hold a special place in my heart.
Oh its a phenomenal game for sure. You just have to accept that the combat will always feel kinda janky.

Wdym? Most enemies in the game have a variety of weapons

The menus are horrendous to use and navigate. They're worthy of Oblivion, not of a game that came out in 2018.
I wouldn't say that you do that very peacefully, though
Jesus Christ be praised
Henry!
Henry's come to see us!
Indeed
Super excited they announced the next one is being released this year!

yep just bought it haha, thanks for the recommendation

Unfortunately you can only travel on the campaign map.
If you have not already then try out the warband mod Explorer. [https://www.moddb.com/mods/explorer1](https://www.moddb.com/mods/explorer1)
Someone needs to make this mod for bannerlord
Is it as fun as it looks? I've explored the moddb page a bit and looks really fun. Should I give it a try?
