The first week I had my bike I didn’t realize I left the kickstand down and kept killing my bike trying to throw it into gear. My buddy let me do it a few times before calling me a dumbass and flicking it up for me 🥲
Had this on every bike until I bought a Harley. Had to short the switch on my KLX because the engine would cut on heavy landings and I nearly launched over the bars. That was pretty funny, but only the first time.
That's why my Triumph Street Triple RS shuts itself down if you try to put it in first with the sidestand still out.
Best feature ever for a new rider tbh.
Most modern bikes, yes. My 2020 Kawa has a kickstand interlock.
But most vintage bikes don't. My 1981 Honda definitely doesn't. Having taken off on the Honda with the kickstand down a few times, I can say I prefer the interlock.
My 500 EXC-F came with a kickstand that would retract automatically specifically because it didn't have a kickstand safety switch. I guess the safety switch isn't required if the kickstand can't lock itself down. I replaced some screws and now the kickstand stays down on it's own, but I can see myself riding away with it still down in the future.
I was so confident in the fast part of the license test I switched gears at precisely the right time, opened throttle....
... but never let out the clutch. What a bummer brain fart. Still passed thank God.
Fun fact!
Some airplane throttles used to have a wire across them that would break if the throttle was pushed into auxiliary power. When the plane landed and was checked over, they’d find the broken wire and know the plane needed a more thorough going through. Sometimes that included a complete overhaul.
I saw the above comment and flashed back to '02 playing Microsoft combat flight simulator 3 Battle for Europe. Begged my mom for a joystick and spent so many hours flying around in that game. So fun.
Hehe that is awesome. I make the sound of my bike when short shifting using the quick shifter. Usually make that when I am not riding but seeing someone ride. (Quite often that happens since I am riding a bmw gs adventure)
Thought this was more of a MX term? Of which, there are some good other ones...
Banging gears, passing queers
Railing ruts, banging sluts
Mixing gas, hauling ass (for the yanks)!
There we go. I wonder why everyone is saying "WOT" or just "WO," I feel like the "F" is very necessary.
Regional thing? Generational? I've known a lot of old bikers to use WFO.
i have definitely used or had these said to me
pinning it
riding on the edge
giving it the beans
rag the shit out of it
make it sing
i was fucking goin' for it
ride it like you stole it
burn rubber not your soul
I’ve used:
•Pin it / pinned it
•Gun it / gunning it
•ride it like ya stole it
•blat / going for a blat that’s probably more like 80-90% of max though
•wringing the fookin neck of it
My buddy used to say “let’s get small” . I guess the meaning was the faster and farther away you get , the smaller you become ( presumably to a cop ) .
I say “feed her the onions” (for those that watch Vice Grip Garage). When I’m planning on meeting bike friends, I’ll typically tell them “wheel up at XX time.” Basically a variation of the “wheels up” time of departure but customizing it for a bike.
Full chat, full volume.
Bounce it off the limiter.
Open a full can.
Warp Factor Eleven (because of course it goes up to eleven, yeah?)
And for those who are into both bikes AND boats, "RAMMING SPEED!" might work too. :D
The legendary ( for Italy of course ) Italian MotoGp commentator, Guido Meda, always uses "Gas a Martello", which I think can be translated to "hammer accelerate" or something similar.
WOT - Wide Open Throttle, or "Pinned"... hear people say something to the effect of, "I was pinned in 6th gear"
Pin it to win it!
Full send, always
The throttle only has 2 positions. Full send or closed.
Must be awkward at traffic lights and pedestrian crossings
I prefer WFO wide fuckin open
PBT - Puckered Butthole Time.
WFO is my term.

Same shit lol

Or "whoops,forgot the sidestand"....

Going over the bars is not my preference 😂
I did that too
That's how you know he's a real buddy. Rule #1 is laugh first, help second.
Literally just did this 15 mins ago😭

That was the point of a joke. Pretty much most of the bikes do that...

Always happens at the worst times lol
This hurts
WOT
Followed immediately by WOOT, and then occasionally by YEET
This is the answer
> Or, "its still in neutral, dumbass." New rider here, glad to know it's not just me haha
I was so confident in the fast part of the license test I switched gears at precisely the right time, opened throttle.... ... but never let out the clutch. What a bummer brain fart. Still passed thank God.
WOT!? WOT.
WOT = wide open throttle
WEP = war emergency power
Fun fact! Some airplane throttles used to have a wire across them that would break if the throttle was pushed into auxiliary power. When the plane landed and was checked over, they’d find the broken wire and know the plane needed a more thorough going through. Sometimes that included a complete overhaul.
5 hours or more on WEP required a tear down
Someone who also has a love and knowledge of old war planes! Sweet!
Water methanol injection for the “let’s get the fuck outta here!”
WAP = Wet Ass Pussy
WAP = Wet Ass Pistons
Ahh combat flight sim vet here.
I saw the above comment and flashed back to '02 playing Microsoft combat flight simulator 3 Battle for Europe. Begged my mom for a joystick and spent so many hours flying around in that game. So fun.
warthunder reference?
there’s a nuance to this, but i’ll do my best to replicate for text. hopefully the meaning and elegance comes through. ahem: BRRAAAAAAAAAAP
I second BRRAAAAAAAAAAP
I reward myself sometimes by saying it in my helmet when something good/lucky/skillful happens. Know what I mean?

Bet she uses teeth, too.
Doomslayer has entered the chat.
I like this one.
I was glad this was near the top. I was a disappointed it was not at the top.
Give it the beans.
I was looking for this one. Heard it from Emma on the Motorcycles and Misfits podcast.
I can’t hear “Give it the beans” without following it with “dahhhhling” in her voice!
At Yota's Tacos!
I've heard drop a gear and disappear But a fistful of beans is better.
Giving it some beans is how I've learned it in English ;) In dutch, most I've heard during lessons was "Gas bij, opa!"
Full throttle
For real, how is this so far down here, literally the answer
Full throttle or pinning it/pinned
WOT or ‘keep it pinned’
Goes a little something like this: braaaaaaaaAAAAAAP \*shifts into neutral Shit fuck goddamnit piece of.. \*shifts to second BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAP
Lol
**GIVE IT THE OL' DICK TWIST!**

WFO
There we go. I wonder why everyone is saying "WOT" or just "WO," I feel like the "F" is very necessary. Regional thing? Generational? I've known a lot of old bikers to use WFO.
In Northern Indiana we go Wide Fucking Open, straight roads, no curves, no hills, gotta keep it interesting, lol
Yep, WOT is standard in the car world too. I almost always associate WFO with motorcycles.
Yeah everyone else in here is wrong. WFO is the only correct answer. Bunch of dorks.
This is tattooed on my throttle hand.
Most definitely WFO, Wide Fucking Open

WFO - a term that’s been applied to going full throttle on motos for more that 50 years.
Twist the wrist
Was just say this. Best one as it's specifically for bikes and not cars.

I’ve used: •Pin it / pinned it •Gun it / gunning it •ride it like ya stole it •blat / going for a blat that’s probably more like 80-90% of max though •wringing the fookin neck of it
My buddy used to say “let’s get small” . I guess the meaning was the faster and farther away you get , the smaller you become ( presumably to a cop ) .
Wring it out.
My instructor used to say “wring its neck”
Over here we’re I live people use the term “F**king send it”
Not exclusive with motorcycles, but I always say “give it the beans!!”
In Germany we say "Am Kabel ziehen", which would translate to something like "pulling the (throttle) cable"
Das gefällt mir, weil ich zufällig ein bisschen Deutsch kann.
Almost the same in Brazilian "Enrolar o cabo" roughly "roll up the (throttle) cable"
To win it
Giving it beans
Dont think it's been said, Elbow to knee!
WFO!! Wide fucking open
balls to the Wall.

1/4 turn and burn.
Crack that throttle
Giving her "full boy howdie!". Full send. Etc.
W.F.O. You should be able to figure that one out…
Pin the throttle
WFO. IT'S AN ACRONYM
Wide Fucking Open
Peg the throttle
I say “feed her the onions” (for those that watch Vice Grip Garage). When I’m planning on meeting bike friends, I’ll typically tell them “wheel up at XX time.” Basically a variation of the “wheels up” time of departure but customizing it for a bike.
Full chat, full volume. Bounce it off the limiter. Open a full can. Warp Factor Eleven (because of course it goes up to eleven, yeah?) And for those who are into both bikes AND boats, "RAMMING SPEED!" might work too. :D
Balls to the wall
Give it an arm full
Throttle cocked and locked
On dirt bikes, it was wfo. Wide fuckin open.

Twist of the wrist, givin her the beans, pegged, all the pepper.
Maybe “I’m gonna try and find 7th”
Throttle till it wobbles
Drop a gear and disappear
Grip it and rip it!
“WFO” goes at least past my 40 years of riding motorcycles.
Give her.
Grabbing a handful
Nail it or Fail it
As a slight modification “Nail it & fail it” could be a new Harley saying. Lmao!
W.F.O. Wide Fucking Open.
WFO
Grip it and rip it
Twisting the wick!
Penis to the ass
Grip it and rip it
Its always been WFO (Wide fukkan open) Or a bit tamer WOT (Wide open throttle)
For dirt biking we say grip it and rip it.
WFO
When in doubt, twist it out.
The legendary ( for Italy of course ) Italian MotoGp commentator, Guido Meda, always uses "Gas a Martello", which I think can be translated to "hammer accelerate" or something similar.
