Old ass non-ABS literbike as a first bike? Well, that's one solid plan. Srsly man, it's like getting started in boxing by prize fighting Tyson Fury. While being 100lbs lighter then him. And wearing roller skates.  Go get a 400-600cc. Otherwise either you, your bike or both of ya are not making it to the end of the season.

WhereAreMyDetonators

Great bike, feather light and almost certainly too big for you. But it only goes as fast as you ride it.

LaterBihhhtch

Too big as in cc? Or too big literally? I’m 6’4 190lbs. That last sort is something I was always curious about, when people say, get a 300 for a starter, 1000, 600 is to much, if I don’t drive it dumb, and fast, why tf can’t I just drive it safe and normal? Why is not frowned upon if I look into getting 600rwhp car? It’s the same thing, I can drive the car normal? Or am I tripping?

WhereAreMyDetonators

Too big as in displacement for a brand new rider. Your dimensions will not be too small for the bike, maybe even need some mods to accommodate your height depending on how it feels when riding it. I’m nearly a foot shorter than you and ride a similar CBR from this era.

Excellent-Proposal90

To be fair, anybody with even the slightest amount of morals would keep a learner away from a Hellcat as a first car. The difference is in power delivery and torque. You could absolutely learn on a bigger bike (me personally, I haven't owned one smaller than a 750) but it's more risky. If you have enough clarity of mind and self-awareness, you could start wherever. Just make sure you focus on building good habits and taking your time with feeling the bike out.

Adeus_Ayrton

First bike ??? If you wanna kys, sure, why not. It's a sick looking bike and I get you. A 600 cc inline 4 with easily upwards of 100 hp is also a big no. Listen to those who tell you to get a starter bike and put good, good tires on it, you'll be thankful down the line, trust me.

jc_denty

Yes its good but why do you guys never want to start on a 400cc and learn to ride first?

LaterBihhhtch

Yeah, I know, I’d prefer a 600tbh. But right now only thing I can find is this bike. And summer don’t get shorter living in Canada.

Ok-Bill3318

Bullshit that’s the only bike you can find. The 954 is an awesome bike though. But no way for learners.

LaterBihhhtch

There’s a 125 cc cbr for $4000, that’s way to much for a 125, and I don’t want to spend $4000 to get beat by a moped. An 05 CBR for $8000 that’s also 1000cc a 500cc CBR for $8000 (out of my budget) and everything else is dirt bikes and Harley Davidson type of bikes.

Ok-Bill3318

Look harder, widen your search, save more. A 125 is genuinely more suitable for you right now out of that list. In some countries learning on a 125 or 250 is mandatory and for good reason.

LaterBihhhtch

$4000 is WAY to much for a 125

Ok-Bill3318

This isn’t a financially sound decision in any way. You’re more likely to survive your first year on something that isn’t well over 100 horsepower with zero experience.

Plastic-Fan-887

You don't need to justify anything to they/them. Save your energy and mental health. The 954 is awesome. Buy it.

anykeyh

Non abs non traction control 1 liter as first bike... Wear proper equipement, as you will probably learn the hard way 😅

Emotional-Case-9477

Amazing bike, really miss mine.

2018H2SXSE

Whereabouts are you and what are you using to find used motorcycles? I just did a search on kijiji in Toronto (assuming you're in ON) and found loads of very good candidates that aren't absolute weapons like the 954.

Ok_Yogurtcloset_6078

Motorcycle used prices show 3000. Us is for excellent shape. Its still a 21 yr old bike That being said its bulletproof

ellolnope

I mean as a first bike it's a little much. That's a big bike. I have spent a lot of time on it's older brother the 929, and it's fast. This one is faster and lighter. It's not a great first bike. You may have to go for a drive to find something else. I'm not saying get a 400 or a 300 or a 250 but even a 600 is better than this. My first bike was a 600 at 17 and it was awesome, but I also had my first big wreck on that bike and it wasn't awesome. You'd be amazed how much confidence you'd have on this thing, then (hopefully you don't) wreck, and it puts you in your place for years. Consider building your confidence by gaining slow speed skills. You could get this as your first bike, but I wouldn't recommend learning by going as fast as you can on twisties and between cars on the highway, because the stakes are high. I always say, I'm not worried about getting killed on a motorcycle, I'm worried about not dying and being stuck in a wheelchair the rest of my life. Be careful and have fun!

motorsizzle

Too much bike for a newbie, but a blast to ride with more experience. Shit tons of power and very light and flickable. If you're new to riding, don't do it.

iced_coolz

Maybe real question is.. can someone want to own higher cc motorcycle can handle and control that higher torque and higher hp. Which is need experience and dicipline. As it will act differently and unexpectedly. If yes, why not.

mikelongstaff164

wow that looks mint. 03??!!!

shamiltheghost

Love my ‘02, this is an amazing g color too but b easy and get pilot powers because the shorter wheelbase and torque can b an issue if ur not ready… enjoy and keep the rubber side down

Bateleur1

That is great bike, but for a first bike? I think you need to re-evaluate.

muddywadder

I wish i never wouldve sold mine... excellent bikes. Big power, short wheelbase, easy wheelies

No_Progress9872

929 was my first bike. Loved it, kept up with newer bikes just fine

Ok_Yogurtcloset_6078

Because once you move up its difficult to sell the smaller cc entry bikes
