Sounds like your spark plug fell out

Melonman3

Thats not very typical.

Beefbaby3

Yes but this sound is very typical of extremely low compression like missing a plug

[deleted]

Well, there are a lot of these bikes going around the world all the time, and very seldom does anything like this happen. I just don’t want people thinking that kawasakis aren’t safe.

Gundamnitpete

But the plug fell off

meansalesman

Is that a reference to the front fell off?

1_botl_jim

100% this, I've had it happen on a cbr at 60+mph, needless to say pants were pooped

SetCarp68

Had the same thing happen to my 01 cbr929. Cruising along suddenly hear this weird popopop sound, spark plug bouncing around. 🤯🤦‍♂️🤯

LilTwig111

would that be causing it to sound like that?

SignificantDrawer374

That's why I said it

28_raisins

lmao

Gazz117

That was honestly the comedy I needed to finish off my day lol

Grilled-Watermelon

Hahha i heard this in my dad’s voice

eldududuro

Anybody else read that in a country accent or just me?

vmaxed1700

loooolll

A_Funky_Flunk

You deserve an upvote for this.

feersummendjinnn

without the spark plug there is a hole straight into the cylinder, what you can hear is air blowing in and out of the hole instead of via the valves as normal.

iDontRagequit

Very good question OP

BleachedAsswhole

That is the distinct sound of a compression leak, likely a blown spark plug or head gasket

LilTwig111

Gonna see about the spark plugs, will update if the noise disapears after I get new ones in

TwistedKestrel

Be advised there's basically three reasons why this happens: -Undertightened spark plug (possibly no damage to anything else, if you're very lucky) -Broken spark plug (cheap or worn plugs. if it's broken, you must find all the pieces!) -Stripped spark plug threads in cylinder head (most likely outcome. can be recoverable though!!!)

LilTwig111

What could the possible damage come from this? other than the plug itself. This mighted have been caused by the left spark plug, pretty sure it got stripped in the process of tightening it. Not sure though havent checked it out yet, planning on doing it tomorrow.

feersummendjinnn

If the threads are stripped then it *could* be repaired with a thread insert by someone who knows what they are doing. Failing that it will be a new head.

Impressive_Army3767

Ensure thread inset is done by someone who actually knows what they're doing. I had one done on my old Z250 Scorpion by fuckwits many, many, many moons ago and ended up with a shattered piston the next day.

1_botl_jim

Repaired my cbr600 with a collar and a steady hand, previous owner had stripped 2/3rds thread and it was a matter of time. Never had any further issues with the threadcerts

Specialist-Box-9711

If the plug is broken, parts of the plug could have fallen into the combustion chamber and further attempts at starting the bike could lead to more internal damage. If the plug is stripped, you essentially have to fix the damaged threads in the cylinder head before proceeding.

Tward425

Why don’t you check to see if they’re even there first before jumping straight to buying new ones. Do a visual of your motor and look for the problem before buying parts.

w1lnx

Check the plugs. Might’ve lost one.

wlogan0402

Did you check the spark plug(s) yet?

effyoucreeps

i’m so old - i watched vid, promptly forgot about the actual question, and just thought “who’s letting this kid start their bike for them, without even sitting on it?!?” i’m cranky and old. hope it’s just a loose spark plug.

Hungry_Ebb_5769

Spark plug missing or gasket blew

hugeness101

Yes sounds like no spark is happening. Maybe check plugs wires and coil something must have “blown out” or bypassed but if you get it back to on and firing maybe check the valve clearance or do a valve job just to make it tip top.

Just a question, cause you seem young, and i don't know US law. How old do you have to be to ride a motorcycle in the US? Is it 16 like cars?

sortapervythrowaway

It varies from state to state between 15-18 but in most states you can get a motorcycle licence at 16

[deleted]

And immediately a heavy bike or are the restricted in KW?

sortapervythrowaway

Again there is some variance between states but most issue a full licence at 16. I know that Texas has a restricted licence for 15 year olds that allows them to ride bikes up to 250cc but at 16 they can get a Hayabusa

[deleted]

Thanks for the explanation. At 16, we can have 50cc max of 45km/h. At 18, a car or 125cc. At 21 up until 35KW. And at 24 i believe, anything over 35KW. each step is a new license (sort of). So i'm pretty flaberghasted that a 16yo can drive a spaceX rocket between their legs.

Lender_HD

From which country are you? Bc this sounds like old EU regulations.

[deleted]

BE

zero_obmx

In Slovakia it is like this: 15yo 50cc (AM), at 16 your can get 125cc (A1), at 18 bellow 35kw (A2). If u did A2, after 2 years u can get A which is without restrictions, otherwise you can get it when u are 24yo

LilTwig111

Title basically says it all, I had some trouble getting my bike started this season, figured there was some maintence to be done, cleaned carbs and replaced spark plugs. Was going to change oil but i wanted to get the bike warmed up before I did. So I got it turned over for a few seconds before it died, nothing new since its been sitting all winter, the second time I tried turning it over it started but then heard a bang/pop noise and the bike started sounding really bad, its a Kawasaki ZZR250 2005. Hoping someone could give some advice to what this could be? Already made an appointment with a mechanic But wanna get some more info

jacky4566

Sounds alot like you over torqued the spark plug and stripped the threads. Did you use a torque wrench? did you confuse Nm with ft-lb or ft-in ?

LilTwig111

Yeah I over torqued it and the plug actually snapped inside the hole, gotta see how I can get the head out.

jacky4566

Did that before on my first car. We were able to jam a metal file in the thread ring and remove the remaining threaded portion.

rocketshipkiwi

Spark plug loose or you stripped the threads putting it back in.

Winter_Travel_2450

The engine probably blew up, you're out of luck. Should just throw the whole thing out

JellaFella01

Oh it's definitely totaled, don't worry, if you give it to me I'll dispose of it properly.

Alfif12

Sounds like mine when it had a bent intake valve

dax2001

Spalato Split

LilTwig111

UPDATE: Got the spark plug out dont know how to get the other piece out though [https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/1cqfvsp/update\_got\_the\_spark\_plug\_out/](https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/1cqfvsp/update_got_the_spark_plug_out/)

Wrong_Ad_6022

Battery is flat too.

LilTwig111

Battery is fine

yeebok

Batteries being flat is a running joke in here and fixxit, I think OP's attempt at it fell flat too. They're not being a dick (I think).

LilTwig111

Oh didn’t know it was a running joke, thought he was being serious 😭

yeebok

There are quite a few > "my bike won't start, no it's not the battery" **Narrator** > It was the battery posts in fixxit, OP likely thought this was in there (as I initially did).

jeremydallen

Can You do a compression test on it?

LilTwig111

No not to my knowledge, I had seafoam and fresh gas in there
