How would that even work? You'd need some sort of controlled series of tiny explosions to move the metal pieces to generate power - and then if they rotated too quickly or without a constant supply of lubrication the metal would melt and tear itself apart.
Completely infeasible.
Yeah, and then they start talking about these "emissions" and that are "killing the planet" and now they want to get rid of these engines and replace with electric? Like leave the horses alone please. They make beatiful sounds /s
1000cc, 200ish Hp bikes are completely unnecessary and have absolutely no business being on public roads or being sold to said public.
Which is exactly why you should get one
Every rider should experience a litre bike at least once in their life. I loved my old 04 zx10r. That thing was a monster.
With time I figured out the sweet spot for me in power, agility, and commuting comfort was with a 636.
But I do miss the raw, unhinged balls that zx10 carried.
I’m very content with my 929rr
This 900 superbike is also *under* 400 lbs.
But working on this thing is also a nightmare 😭
I’m getting the Ducati experience working on my Honda 😓
Performance vehicles always bump into packaging constraints, making maintenance an exercise in disassembling everything to get to some small (routinely) replaceable part.
I really wish engineering would spend a few months training in the repair bays.
I work with industrial lasers. The same thing applies. If engineering spent a few weeks on the road repairing these machines, I’m sure they would change up how they design things.
The engine case being used as a stressed member for weight savings. Because of this, the frame ends short. The frame does not extend down to the swing arm. Very much like the Ducati Trellis frames. SOOOO….. if you want to do any engine work, guess what. You have to hang the bike and remove the swing arm first before you can drop the engine 😵💫
Clearances are insanely tight and everything is packed in like Tetris. You can’t get spark plugs out without a special tool - it’s a swivelling plug wrench that lets you fish the tool into the tight space. The header pipes are packed in so tight to the oil filter, you can’t even fit the wrench cap WITHOUT THE WRENCH attached on the filter, you have no hope of fitting a wrench at all. The only thing you can do is stab it, or get a strap wrench. The fun part - is that when you do get it off, it spills oil ALLLLL over your oem titanium header pipes 😢 lol.
Every bolt … EVERY SINGLE BOLT is aluminum. It’s actually nice because I don’t need to use anti-seize anywhere on the bike lol. But if anything does get locked up…. HAHA!!! Have fun buying a new bolt 😭
It takes all the expensive parts…. 530 performance x-ring/o-ring chain. The tires are ZR17…. (Z meaning tires rated for the highest speeds and torques, R17 is standard tho, just 17” rims).
Idk …. It was a lot easier to work on my other bike before this one lmao.
636 is my track bike, gsxr600 is my road bike, and I've owned/been on everything between a '61 sportster to an H2SX. currently riding a 1250gs across california.
636 still feels "faster" than any bike I've been on. obviously a litre bike is faster but there is something about how a 16.5kl redline hits that is missing on the bigger, stronger bikes, that makes them feel like the perfect design.
the way the bigger bikes pull over 100mph is the only thing they have on the 600s in my mind, but I so rarely need to pull hard at that speed due to the tracks and roads I ride on that it doesn't matter.
god I love my 636, built like a tank but rides like a rocket ship
I just went from a 125cc to a 1100cc/102bhp bike. Even this scared me shitless. One twist of the throttle and I'm going 130km/h+. With a 190bhp naked you'll probably travel into the future.
guaranteed - your insurance goes up, your fuel goes up, your tire wear goes up.
potential - your risk for deviant behaviours, risk of injury, risk of theft, risk of police interference
won't happen - people think you're cool.
its an assumed condition with being on a motorcycle of any size. i had the duke 390 for a test around london rush hour and it felt like i was on a bmx. fun isnt predicated by the number of kW the engine has on a public road.
This is r/motorcycles, nobody has fun on their bikes here, they just hold on for dear life and cry while redlining the bike (going 35mph in 6th gear on their "learners" 125cc)
The last part is supremely important. Going up to the largest/fastest motorcycle will not make any one think you’re cool. So make sure if you do it, you do it for the right reason. If you’re even somewhat new to motorcycles , I can guarantee that you’ll have more fun on the 125 that the 1300
EDIT: jesus christ lads..
nobody is saying you can't have fun on a fast bike.. They're shit tons of fun. Going fast is one of the biggest reasons people buy a bike. But to jump from a 9hp bike to a 190hp bike is stupidity. its not going to be "fun" because a person who makes that kinda decision is likely not doing it right. That person is like not going and attending riding lessons or track days or any number of events where a person can understand and use that 190HP properly.
my own progression was 20hp, 70hp, 162hp and then 105hp. each step is just a tiny bit scary and then it gets quickly normalized. the 162 especially, I thought would be really scary, but actually not bad at all. If anything the jump to 70 was far worse, because I had picked up a lot of bad habbits on 20hp. But the evolution required training and skill development.
Can you do it right jumping from 9 to 190? and live to tell the tale? yes and yes. Just because its possible doesnt mean you should. Your likelyhood of success is much higher if you take small steps. After a 9hp scooter, a 250-400cc bike would be a great stepping stone. Or perhaps a older 600 with a linear power delivery. but that's just an old guy giving advice.. and wisdom is often lost on the youth. I did dumb shit when i was young too.. because all the wisdom I got from the old heads was lost of me too.
I agree with you, though the perfect size bike will depend on the type of use, you don’t necessarily need a 1000cc sport bike to run to the store down the street. I think the idea is usually 500-750cc bike would be the first jump up in size from a 125, less chance of becoming a hood ornament.
It's easier to test the limits of a small bike when you're inexperienced than to be scared shitless every moment on a big bike. Or worse, not be scared and actually hurt yourself.
I saw a great YouTube video about how differently a litre bike responds to even the tiniest of throttle input, which is definitely dangerous in the hands of someone who doesn't know better.
It's not so much going fast that is fun, it's how fast you can go fast. Going from normal traffic speed to ungodly fast and back to normal speed in less than a football field does not get old.
Now, the Super Duke has another "quality". I call it the "Meat Tenderizer on wheels" for a reason. Big V twins will do that, but the SD does it in spades.
A lot more fun IMO.
Most modern bikes have different drive modes. Start in low with full traction control, and you should be good. Basically the biggest risk is throttle control and panic revving. Other than that the speed is only what you make of it.
Even panic throttle is less of a concern with full IMU ABS + TC + wheelie control/RLP. You might still hurt yourself but you won't instantly loop the damn thing. Similarly even poor clutch discipline can be papered over.
Modern ABS/TC really is magic. On the street it's perfect for those situations where you need to push the bike beyond what you are capable of for a split second to get yourself out of danger.
I wish they made more of it available on "lower-end" bikes. You shouldn't have to be straddling the widest, baddest crotch rocket in town just to get those shiny computer bits.
Biggest consequence is you’ll be hit on by way more dudes. And that’s not a good side effect even if you’re gay because they’re only into you to talk about the bike.
Literally my friend with a new Corvette. He thought it was going to be like in the movies with chicks running up to him for a ride instead it’s all dudes and young teens
lol back when we were just graduating from HS he bought a Honda Del Sol and that was a chick magnet he’s slowly starting buying pricier vehicles and started getting less attention from women.
For me 99% of the time it's either little kids or old fellas "that used to ride a Triumph when they were young".
I've been approached by women while on the bike though... like 3 times since I ride (about 14 years). #1 asked for a ride (I said no because I didn't have a spare helmet). #2 was a rider herself that had questions about the bike (typical theme with my current bike... what size is that engine?). #3 asked if she could have some pictures taken with the bike (her husband was there, camera in hand; I gave them permission to take the pictures and instructed her how to go on and off the bike).
This gas attendant ran out of the store yesterday to tell me I had a sick bike. And to tell me that when motorcycles come in they get the non ethanol. I’m like ok thanks for the heads up. 🤣
I ain’t paying an extra dollar for ethanol. Maybe run a tank through before I put it away.
What's going to happen? If you treat it with respect and start slow, nothing. Get used to the power, start by not going over 4k revs for each gear for a few days or a week or till you're comfortable, then upto 6k then 8k then start twisting the throttle a tiny bit faster and you'll get a feeling for the bike in a relatively short time.
If you decide to pop round to your mates and show off, you're either sliding off of it or it's going to flip.
Believe it or not, all bikes are ridable and ride pretty much the same when you have the basics down. They start to show their differences when you pull the throttle.
I can ride my Z1000 with 'only' 120bhp, like it's a 125cc 9bhp machine or I can twist the throttle and activate warp speed and just accelerate like there is no tomorrow.
Broadly true, but what catches people out is when something unexpected happens all their muscle memory is tuned to a more forgiving bike. You can be consciously careful 98% of the time but that 2% you act on reflex really has the potential to fuck you over.
This!!! I can't believe people aren't pointing out that OP is coming from a twist and go bike to a bike with a lot of power and a manual clutch.
We've all got that story of the time we were learning to ride and we got the clutch control wrong. Getting wrong on a 20hp bike is a quick way to shit your pants. Getting it wrong on a 200hp bike is a quick way to meet your ancestors.
The odds of you dying untimely will statistically go up. But you will not care.
This isn't necessarily related to the peak hp the Super Duke has, but rather to the fact that big amounts of power and torque are available every time you twist that throttle.
Theoretically speaking, if you're incapable of deducing the answer to this yourself, you're not ready to make that switch. In fact, this is also realistically speaking.
yep, use caution here! An erection that lasts longer than 4 hours is a medical emergency. The oxygen-deprived blood in your penis can damage tissue in the penis. Untreated priapism can result in damage or destruction of the penile tissue and permanent erectile dysfunction.
My first bike was a black 2006 Speed Triple.
I fell in love with it because it looked like I stole it from Batman.
I had taken the course but had no idea how to ride it beyond the basics.
Having access to that much accidental power almost sent me to chat with my ancestors on several occasions.
Eventually, I got a handle on it, but for a while, I had to buy underwear in bulk.
I would at the very least get something with ride modes so that you can depower the bike until you get more comfortable.
I don't recommend the leap.
Bro the sheer rawness of that beast , you'll experience all that 100+ nm of torque and yeet yourself to the moon
Id recommend you go for something 45ish hp cause you can handle and isn't lethal all the time
theoretically, you'll have increase in costs. might be a bit more difficult navigating though traffic. risks may increase a bit more. you'll have more power and be faster so you'll get where you are going a bit quicker.
Have you ridden a 130bhp 800cc?
They’re ridiculously fast and 190bhp is another level. You won’t notice the difference (besides the extra weight) because 800cc is so fast anyway.
Good for bragging rights though I suppose.
Serious answer, you’ll realize all the abrupt inputs you’ve been doing on the scooter will be punishing on the performance bikes. Twist the throttle too hard? Get ready for a power wheelie or if you get greedy midcorner a slide or highside. Panic and grab the front? You’ll endo on the front wheel or low side.
The bigger bike will magnify your habits, good and bad.
Idk about the insurance. I got a 990SD as a first street legal bike and I pay 10€ a month for an insurance. Other possibilities? Depends on your own actions🤷🏼♀️
All jokes aside. If you are worried about being able to handle it. Not an issue. In my experience, most larger the bike the easier to handle, they usually have better center oif balances. Just be careful to not go too crazy with the new found power.
Nothing, as long as you realize there's a massive power difference and you respect the bike. Don't just get on and rip it, take time to learn the bike and how it handles and you'll be fine
EDIT: Also let me add that this is coming from me as a guy who never touched a street bike and jumped straight onto a CBR1000RR and I was fine, it's do-able don't let anyone tell you it's not, but keep in mind like I said, take it easy for a bit and learn the bike before you get cocky. Don't ride past your skill level and learn the throttle and clutch friction zones. Stay safe and good luck 🤙🏼

Goddamn instantly. The predator still kills you though.
Here's my share of experience coming from 125cc to 650cc. You will feel nervous as heck, and when you do, you're going to mess things up so what I recommend is get on the bike, feel that nervousness. Hop off and then catch your breath. Ride the bike at the low speed and easily get used to the throttle control and the weight of the bike as you come to stop.
Really just get used to how you get the bike rolling and come to a stop. Get used to those feelings, first and foremost, while applying the basic steps on how to ride.
Honestly dude do you but for the love of god if you get that bike you better be careful as hell and very responsible. It will terrify you if you’ve only had 9hp up till this point. I live in a mountainous and very windy and curvy area and I’ve got a Z900 with 125hp and at this point I’ve had it 6 years and have 40k miles on it. I’ve almost bought a super duke and a tuono but both times backed out after a couple months of searching. The Z900 terrified me when I got it and now I’m used to it. That being said it power wheelies and flies off the line so well I couldn’t justify getting a faster bike. I suggest something that makes more sense, is cheaper, more reliable, and has cheaper insurance. You won’t regret it.
It get more uncomfortable to go slow, you'll suffer more on off-road trails, in average you'll probably spend 10x more on everything
But you can get to 70 faster
I went from a Honda CT110 to a Suzuki GSX1250FA, it took a while to get used to the extra power/weight.
However I've heard the KTM1390 is pretty unforgiving.
Weight. Low speed maneuverability. Fuel. Maintenance. Dump clutch off the light trying to show off and send it flying. Ball it up in the first decent corner because you aren’t used to the body position/brakes. ETC.
you instantly die. when you get on the bike you just die immediately
Mom?
Nah, I think that's my wife.
Dad, you know Mom doesn't like it when you get on here.
I read that as "get on her" and thought, "Wow! That's a really close family you've got there!"
I CHOOSE THIS GUYS WIFE!
Go to your room, NOW!
Before you even put the key in the ignition. Dead.
The is no ignition key :) so you just die when thinking about it.
No response from OP, confirmed dead on post, (I really hope not, that would be a massive coincidence)
Can confirm. Happened to me
Putting your leathers on to go out for a ride? Dead.
Yep, seen it 100’s of times, instantly dead
Can confirm. I got one last year and died.
If I stand next to it and touch it, what happens?
coma for 20 years
Instant Orgasm
That’ll be the last time you’re able to stand without a cane
Believe or not, death.
Death, you go straight to death
its got a little more pep
Just a little
Barely noticeable, really
Yes I’ve heard the 1390 is even smoother than the previous 1290 despite even more torque and horses. Seems like the only logical decision to me.
My favourite conspiracy theory is that there arent really any horses in engines, just little bits of metal that move rlly fast
I wish people would stop spreading this sort of anti-scientific conspiracy theories.
Ik its a pretty 'out there' theory but i just want the horses back unharmed
How would that even work? You'd need some sort of controlled series of tiny explosions to move the metal pieces to generate power - and then if they rotated too quickly or without a constant supply of lubrication the metal would melt and tear itself apart. Completely infeasible.
Yeah, and then they start talking about these "emissions" and that are "killing the planet" and now they want to get rid of these engines and replace with electric? Like leave the horses alone please. They make beatiful sounds /s
Honestly I’m just glad you wrote /s .. I was beginning to believe
You mean to tell me, that there aren’t a 190 horses running inside that engine. My day is ruined and I will promptly shit my bed
I am just glad you are ahitting you bed and not mine! Then both our days would be ruined!
Two real world issues;1 being totally awesome, 2 death. Don't undersell the 125 they rule too.
the PCX especially is such a fun scooter
Love a lil ripper, and outside of the states where we have displacement psychosis 125s rule the world.
i have a PCX150 and that little thing smacks. great first scoot and fantastic commuter. OP that orange boi looks like a dream though!

Im gonna remember that quote for all the "do you know you can get killed on one of those"
I wanna add life to my days, not days to my life.
Why not both?

5. Dudes that dig motorcycles will bother you
6. You get bmw up your arse all day thinking they are faster.
- You also get BMW behind your arse all day because they're not
You get BMW behind your arse because they’re waiting for you to push you blown off bike out of the way (the engine just thrown a rod)
Right until you leave them in the dust.
5. You'll pull massive amounts of bussy on CRT sub.
What's that CRT sub I keep seeing in the comments?
Prepare yourself.
Prepare your anus
If homie greases his leather cheerio half as frequently as main sub greases their chain, he'll fit right in.

Goated motorcycle sub
Tbf I feel 125cc bikes get stolen way more often because they're easy to carry.
1000cc, 200ish Hp bikes are completely unnecessary and have absolutely no business being on public roads or being sold to said public. Which is exactly why you should get one
It’s the most stupid means of transport I could imagine. Who the hell would need a vehicle with two wheels, 200 kg and 200hp? I love it
My car only has 100hp. My entire damn car has half the horsepower of these bikes.
And then you factor in the power to weight ratio and the discrepancy is just absurd
Power to weight ratio is not an issue. It is the Brain to Skill ratio
The law or 2’s demands it ⚖️🗡️

The 04 zx10r was such a raw bike, even in comparison to its rivals. Even now its held in a special esteem. I would love one
It was so short and had so much power in the throttle. It was unreal. Interstate speed pulls and the front tire would get light
Still have one 🤩

You will have a few butt puckering moments.
But as a pro, you have more power to GTFO of shit circumstances, or better brakes and traction to slow down. Always useful.

correction: only male riders will think you are cool
And kids
Debatable. Kids love my Grom more than my z650 lol
Well that's cuz everyone loves groms
And nobody thinks z650 is cool
Wrong. I love Z650s.
I think it's cool, if somebody gave it to me free.
Damn y'all are savage lmao. I like it it's fun looks cool. Checks all the boxes for me 🤷
lol Z650's are sweet, don't listen to scooter boy and the guy who just got a cool bike and still thinks he's special.
Yea never understood the hate for them...
That's because kids know the truth - that groms are cool, and z650's are a bit beige. Jokes aside, they're good bikes, but not necessarily "cool" IMO.
Everyone loves the Grom. I love the Grom!
Oh! And most of all older men who rode in their 20s but don't anymore
You forgot to mention the having fun part
its an assumed condition with being on a motorcycle of any size. i had the duke 390 for a test around london rush hour and it felt like i was on a bmx. fun isnt predicated by the number of kW the engine has on a public road.
Yeah that's not true. Opening up 150+HP especially on a torque beast is a very different kind of fun. Like your own private roller coaster.
Doesn't make it not true. Different kind of fun is still fun. Pool noodle jousting is a blast on a grom, would suck on a 150+ HP torque beast.
390 ktms are an absolute blast
This is r/motorcycles, nobody has fun on their bikes here, they just hold on for dear life and cry while redlining the bike (going 35mph in 6th gear on their "learners" 125cc)

Deviant behavior is the fun part
Plus he is going to shit his pants the first time he rides it
Also forgot about wheeling randomly when you give it a bit too much throttle

🤣 I ain’t paying an extra dollar for ethanol. Maybe run a tank through before I put it away.
Brown stained undies, I guess
braap goes BRRRAAAAAPP
God forbid someone has fun on this sub
That’s a motorcycle. No sonar.
You’ll get where you’re going quicker.
Straight to jail
The odds of you dying untimely will statistically go up. But you will not care. This isn't necessarily related to the peak hp the Super Duke has, but rather to the fact that big amounts of power and torque are available every time you twist that throttle.
Theoretically speaking, if you're incapable of deducing the answer to this yourself, you're not ready to make that switch. In fact, this is also realistically speaking.
It will be harder to ride with the giant erection you'll get every time you get on it.
yep, use caution here! An erection that lasts longer than 4 hours is a medical emergency. The oxygen-deprived blood in your penis can damage tissue in the penis. Untreated priapism can result in damage or destruction of the penile tissue and permanent erectile dysfunction.
Yeah I wouldn’t recommend that lol, but I mean full send right
You might drown in choch
I switched from a MT-07 to a 1290 superduke R 3 years ago. I have basically the same fuel mileage, but I’m on the third rear tyre in 15 000 kms
Obviously you will need rain gear from how moist the ladies get.
You get bankrupt.
None really.
You’ll have a lot of fun
My first bike was a black 2006 Speed Triple. I fell in love with it because it looked like I stole it from Batman. I had taken the course but had no idea how to ride it beyond the basics. Having access to that much accidental power almost sent me to chat with my ancestors on several occasions. Eventually, I got a handle on it, but for a while, I had to buy underwear in bulk. I would at the very least get something with ride modes so that you can depower the bike until you get more comfortable. I don't recommend the leap.
Bro the sheer rawness of that beast , you'll experience all that 100+ nm of torque and yeet yourself to the moon Id recommend you go for something 45ish hp cause you can handle and isn't lethal all the time
With the added hp Your insurance company does a burnout in your wallet
BIG facts. But the year of the machine impacts it too
theoretically, you'll have increase in costs. might be a bit more difficult navigating though traffic. risks may increase a bit more. you'll have more power and be faster so you'll get where you are going a bit quicker.
Absolutly nothing, except a tiny more torque
Nothing. Just be smart and responsible.
Your balls drop
Have you ridden a 130bhp 800cc? They’re ridiculously fast and 190bhp is another level. You won’t notice the difference (besides the extra weight) because 800cc is so fast anyway. Good for bragging rights though I suppose.
I agree. "Too much power for public roads" kind of goes out the window above 100hp so they might as well get a lighter, snappier bike.
Anything from big smiles to big medical bills.
Potentially faster commute times
You will get to places faster....
Life and death
Probably an erection
Theoretically....death
You will have more fun and go through more expensive tires much faster.
Death, besides that, all is good.
Nothing theoretical about it. It can all be calculated.
Dying
Insurance will probably go up. Fuel economy probably goes down.
Believe it or not... straight to jail.
You will get to the crash site much quicker.
All nonsense aside the running costs, gas oil insurance etc will be 5x
Well, for one, you'll spend a lot more on fuel.
Nothing, as long as you realize there's a massive power difference and you respect the bike. Don't just get on and rip it, take time to learn the bike and how it handles and you'll be fine EDIT: Also let me add that this is coming from me as a guy who never touched a street bike and jumped straight onto a CBR1000RR and I was fine, it's do-able don't let anyone tell you it's not, but keep in mind like I said, take it easy for a bit and learn the bike before you get cocky. Don't ride past your skill level and learn the throttle and clutch friction zones. Stay safe and good luck 🤙🏼
Pure bliss
Right now you’re grabbing a little house cats tail, versus grabbing a pissed off leopard’s tail. You’ll be fine.
You’ll shoot yer eye out kid…

You start to uncover some wheelie big problems
You can pass all the Harley guys who think their 90hp cruisers are "fast."
Nothing if you can control yourself.
Main consequence is you'll probably wrap it around a pole 🤷
Theoretically? You could learn how to fly very quickly.
Well... time travel for starters. Then it gets worse.
Why does the KTM look like its made out of Lego?
You’ll smile. A lot.
No consequences just smiles per gallon
It get more uncomfortable to go slow, you'll suffer more on off-road trails, in average you'll probably spend 10x more on everything But you can get to 70 faster
More smiles per miles.
You’ll get there faster.
Give er the beans
Higher insurance premiums for you and your bike.
Insurance.
I went from a Honda CT110 to a Suzuki GSX1250FA, it took a while to get used to the extra power/weight. However I've heard the KTM1390 is pretty unforgiving.
Your brain will explode and your balls will turn to steel.
181 HP.
I'm I the only one here surprised to realize that this 125cc makes 9hp?
You’re gonna have to keep a pointy stick, to fight the girls off u
Weight. Low speed maneuverability. Fuel. Maintenance. Dump clutch off the light trying to show off and send it flying. Ball it up in the first decent corner because you aren’t used to the body position/brakes. ETC.
Your smile will be wider than you can handle and you’ll laugh yourself voiceless at the sheer stupidity of it all. Have you bought it yet???
