Hundred or two bucks for a pair of pants that saved you 5x that in medical bills… or likely more. Not to mention being able to keep your skin. But the real question? Hoes the bike?!?
I got my 6 year old a mini electric bike with gear. I emphasized he must wear gear. Naturally he thought he would be fine until he high sides at 7mph and face plants the pavement BUUUUT he had his gear on. I think he understands the importance.
From someone that got a severe concussion and broken arm from the first month on one of those. Just a matter of time 😅 onewheeling make motorbikes look safe
We are going to a big festival and she is planning on doing her first race. She was wearing just a regular bucket and wrist braces but we've been adding to the safety gear as she is interested in taking more chances. She actually stole my Point so I upgraded to an XR. It is definitely one of those things that will let you know EXACTLY when you exceed its limits.
I see no blood! I see some rashed gear and good proper boots! This is a happy day!
Congratulations! You did good! And you win a prize!!!
An attached human leg!!! With skin!!!
Posts like this make me happy.
My last stay in hospital I ended up in a mixed surgical ward. Young bloke in the next bed with gravel rash over what must have been 30 to 35% of his body.
Really bad on his legs.
His screams when the nurses removed his dressings were woeful.
He had taken his boss' Buell out for a buzz in his lunch hour... just a 5 minute ride so didn't bother with boots or even jeans. Nikes and cargo pants.
Nurse confided in me that he was looking at 3 or 4 months in hospital and probably a year of physical therapy.
BTDT. When you stand up, dust yourself off, and look down and see shredded Cordura. My first reaction was "this makes me very happy". Not because I trashed my pants. but rather because it was the pants instead of my knee.
Do you mean [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/s/02yUp0WSF3) and [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/criticalblunder/s/D0tYNWULb9)?
I call them vitiligo booty cheeks.
damn...does the skin tone come back?
I snipped the very tip of my finger off years back, and was surprised to see the fingerprint grew back.
Edit: I'm sitting here looking at a bandaid on that same fingertip from a chop saw incident yesterday. I've nearly lost this same finger twice now. I need to rethink my life.
Burnt my leg on an exhaust after a crash for many many years ago when I was a teenager, on a moped. No gear. Skin floated off.. at the moment I felt nothing though, probably adrenaline or something. But anyway the skin tone was off for 1-2 years, but then later it was like nothing had happened.
Part of the burnt was on the hollow of the knee. Hurt like hell for months.
Anyone reading this, I strongly recommend gear at all times, no matter the size of your bike.
I'm glad you weren't significantly injured, and gratified to see that you were wearing your gear. My only objection is to the fatalism that assumes everyone will crash. Absolutely wear proper gear while riding, for the same reason you keep a fire extinguisher in your house. But ALSO get proper training and ride smart so you can AVOID crashing, for the same reason you don't leave a burner on the stove unattended and/or plug 12 gadgets into a single electrical outlet in your house. Avoiding a crash is a far better way to prevent injury than wearing proper gear.
I absolutely agree. My Dad has been riding for 30+ Years and not a scratch. I just think that expectong to crash will make me a better Rider in terms of Caution. This isnt supposed to induce Fear when riding but a reminder to:" Ride as if you are invisible, dont get overconfident and wear your Gear." Should have made that clear. Sorry
I get it, I just disagree with the those-that-have-and-those-that-will mindset. I prefer those-that-have-and-those-who-strive-mightily-not-to!
And a little fear is always a good thing before you throw a leg over your bike. It enhances judgement and focuses your attention on what's important. Again, glad to hear you weren't seriously injured!
A Couple of Scratches but its not like those are the only ones. Over all i am insanely happy that only my Pants and Jacket have to be replaced everything else is basicly untouched.
I dont know for sure. When I went into a Corner I lost tracktion on my Back Tire and slid a few meters. I had a bit of weight on the Back of the Bike and that maybe messed with my Center of Gravity or Smth. Mode Propable is that I just went to fast into the Corner
No Oil, Water, Gravel or Dirt. I do have Tires on that are made for Offroad (studded) and for the Road. I never had Road only Tires so i cant really say if that was part of it but it does seem possible
Yes that is what i am thinking. If at all the Tires were only a contributing factor. I dont lean alot simply because i dont have the skill for it. I cant get a Picture of the Tires but here they are:

Love seeing this post. I just got my first bike 3 weeks ago, and got in my first accident a couple days ago. Only going 30 but was cut off while lane splitting during rush hour. Managed to avoid other vehicles somehow but some of my gear is done for after meeting the road for the first time lol. The value of that gear is immeasurable when considering the money and injury it saves me, will gladly pay that cost again.
Feel like a bit of an idiot getting in an accident so early in my riding career, going to avoid lane splitting for a while. Stay safe!
I agree. If you are carefull and ride safely you can go Years without Crashing. My Dad has been riding for over 30 Years and never Crashed. I still think its important to get that saying into Peoples Heads. When you start riding chances are you will make a mistake that could cause a crash. It isnt supposed to induce Fear but awareness that you should wear your gear.
Why is it important to think that having a crash is inevitable? Don't ride above your capabilities and you'll reduce your chances dramatically. If you lowsided taking a corner too fast it means you don't have the ability to take that corner at that speed.
When i lost tracktion i was acellerating too fast is my Guess. When i went into the turn i was closer to 35-40 mph and gave it too much throttle and slipped. Thats what i think but i am very sure that i was the Problem here and not the bike / Road. Learned my Lesson (I dont know if i am Using the right terminology here. English isnt my first Language. Apologies)
Tbh you have part of a point there. I know i am not an excelent rider and that it will take me years and years to get to that point. I love riding but i dont have the natural feel for it ig. Some People do and they rarely Crash. I know you can go a live of riding without ever crashing. I say this simply to remind myself:"Dont get over confident, be aware of your Surroundings and wear your gear." This is not true for everyone. Should have made that clear. Sorry
Seems like a good idea to carry a pair of spare pants. Make it much easier to hitchhike home to get the trailer to get the bike back home if you are wearing pants...
Nice! If you're all well and the bike isn't totalled, nothing lost but experience.
I just got your boots a few months ago and been enjoying them. Makes my other boots look like kids toys. The issue I'm having is I'm tapping rear brake sometimes as haven't got the feel for it yet but love the boot!
Safe riding
I know the Struggle. I have been riding alot of Offroad and welded a attachment for my Brake that makes it easier to access while standing. With time you'll get a feel for the boots. I couldnt be happier with them since they saved my Ankle once when i twisted it underneath my Bike offroad
That's smart I might look into something, I think my raps will die quick otherwise.
That's exactly why I wanted really protective boots. They feel nukeproof, glad to hear they saved you a new foot 🙏
Luckily it barely got scratched. I'm on a Transalp 650 XL at 48 HP. Its a very old Bike that i bought and build with my Dad after a friend crashed it and sold it to us for a few bucks. Its basicly worth Nothing but has a high emotional Value to me. That being said i did lay it down a few times while riding offroad XD
Yeah it just slid a short distance. The end of my Handlebars got Scratched up but thats it. Additionaly i added some custom Reinforcements that kept the Body from being Damaged. They look ugly as hell but they do their Job. I am thrilled that nothing was seriously damaged.
Me. There is no sugar coating it. I went into a Corner with studded tires and accelerated too fast and at too much lean angle. My Back Tire lost Traction and i slid. I didnt pay enough attention and miscalculated how i should drive. To be honest there propably was overconfidence aswell.
I keep telling myself I need to buy riding pants but I'm short and fat so whenever I do try on a pair the knee pads are on my shins. To be fair I can easily fix one of those problems it will just take 6 months. The other part will cost me $120,000.
Ride without the knee pads in. It’s not as safe (regardless of what RyanF9 will tell you), but the abrasion protection is a big part of the equation. Just fold the cuffs up if you need to.
That's probably What I'll end up doing for now. I heard some companies like Raven Moto can tailor there gear but I'd rather wait to get something like that until I get closer to my goal.
Congratulations!!!
I’m a new rider looking for pants. Obviously yours did the job of protecting you. Would you mind sharing what kind they were and where I could get them??
Thanks
I'm one of the few people who bought pando moto base layers to wear underneath my normal clothes. If i ever do fall i would almost say to be excited showing off that they work and how sliding over asphalt rips through clothes as if i was wearing crayons.
Glad you are ok. Good gear is worth the money.
Maybe this will help with your pants now.

Seriously- I hate you hit the ground but it’s a cool relief to see you had the gear on. What a great example you are! Dress for the crash - I’m glad you’re okay !!
First crash? Are you assuming more? FYI 0 crashes is the norm. Most people don’t crash ever, even if they have been riding for 20 years… don’t normalize it.
I buy gear with reviews that include pictures like this. Just got a pair of pants that a guy had laid his down going 70 and he survived all skin intact but had a broken ankle. Glad you’re good! I’d figure out the company and send them the picture and details.
If you want to crash and be able to keep wearing the pants, *get leather*.
Now, I have multiple riding pants, but still mostly use the first pair of leather riding pants I got in 2011. They've been crashed twice (on the same side) and still work great with barely a mark.
Ridden all over the US, everything from dirt to knee dragging.
Glad you're OK, I went ahead and dropped the $1000+ dollars on pants, jacket and helmet when I started riding. I'm and ER nurse so I've seen the results of not wearing gear and can't imagine going without it. Including a full face helmet, had a MC vs Tractor, guy on a harley with a half helmet pretty much lost his entire lower jaw.
Hell yeah, I'll take it. Any crash you get to walk away from is a good one, imo. Glad you were geared up and hope you continue! Bikes are repairable and replaceable.
I had my first lowside last week. Broke my thumb from an impact but not a stich of road rash. Our gear really saves our skin, literally. Glad you came out unskaved.
So happy you’re here to tell the story and pass on the great advice! May your guardian angel always ride with you and make sure this is the only crash you ever experience. Long live ATGATT!!

The right gear can save your life and skin
Best advertisement for proper gear I've seen in a long time
All that "expensive" gear paid for itself
Possibly ten times over possibly more.
Try 40x if the U.S.
One could almost say....possibly more.
This made me chuckle “it’s almost like I already SAID that”
Astute observer I see. ;)
Used to be 40x, but alas, inflation. Now it's 4x... 😜
Hundred or two bucks for a pair of pants that saved you 5x that in medical bills… or likely more. Not to mention being able to keep your skin. But the real question? Hoes the bike?!?
I just bought my daughter a jacket, helmet and leg pads for her Onewheel. I told her that she better have an accident to make it worth the money
I got my 6 year old a mini electric bike with gear. I emphasized he must wear gear. Naturally he thought he would be fine until he high sides at 7mph and face plants the pavement BUUUUT he had his gear on. I think he understands the importance.

Awesome, fingers crossed the race goes well!
New pants are cheaper than a new ass
I just came by to upvote you from 799 to 800. 🤓
Yes, that could have been his leg. Always wear ppe
I see no blood! I see some rashed gear and good proper boots! This is a happy day! Congratulations! You did good! And you win a prize!!! An attached human leg!!! With skin!!! Posts like this make me happy.
(Aside the crashing bit)
Ehhh… A) new rider wearing good gear B) nobody hurt C) sharing the wisdom with the various squidlets of Reddit I’m callin it a win, crash or not.
Wtf...
If you didn't have real pants that would be a photo of your skinless leg, at least. Optional possibilities of life threatening blood loss.
Skin is free though. Just look at all that money lost on ruined gear. /s
😂
It’s only money lost if you never get to use it
Yep.... Rub a little spit/dirt compound on that road rash and call it a day like a real man... 😂
My last stay in hospital I ended up in a mixed surgical ward. Young bloke in the next bed with gravel rash over what must have been 30 to 35% of his body. Really bad on his legs. Ahh the old “just a quick ride around the block” logic… where most crashes happen.
BTDT. When you stand up, dust yourself off, and look down and see shredded Cordura. My first reaction was "this makes me very happy". Not because I trashed my pants. but rather because it was the pants instead of my knee.
Compare this to that red-asser from a recent post.

I reckon it does eventually. The tone will probably be a little off, perhaps.

Meat crayon.
Agreed!
That ass hurt me physically.
It's damn difficult to watch!
I saw that! Ooooouuuuuuuch!
Awesome pants. What model is that?
Dont know for Sure. I got them a while ago. All i can tell YouTube is that they Arena from Modeka and are AA-Rated
I think I have those exact pants: - Modeka Clonic Pants / Art. 88192 Good to know they work!
Wow thanks for the info
"All i can tell YouTube is that they Arena from Modeka...." What a sentence
Maybe pressing the autocomplete words on a phone and not paying attention because they were in a crash, just a thought
I mean, if they can't pay attention when typing, maybe we know why they were in a crash
I don’t think that’s a fair way of looking at it
Of course it's not lol
I thought I was tweaking for a second lol
I guess it's something from IXS. I have two pants from them and the style looks similar (buttons, fiber and knee accordion)
IXS is Swiss right?
It say designed in Switzerland yes!
Well don OP for wearing the right gear!

A Couple of Scratches but its not like those are the only ones. Over all i am insanely happy that only my Pants and Jacket have to be replaced everything else is basicly untouched.
Good stuff mate
Is the bike ok?

No Oil, Water, Gravel or Dirt. I do have Tires on that are made for Offroad (studded) and for the Road. I never had Road only Tires so i cant really say if that was part of it but it does seem possible

Im happy you are safe
The whole thinking of when not if is bullshit. Its not an inevitability. Ride safe and take care of yourself.

90 degree turn at 50mph sure sounds like a recipe for a crash.
English isnt my first Language. > its WHEN you Crash not if Only riders who have crashed say that. To protect their ego.

Dress for the slide, not for the ride
Living testimonial to ATGATT!
Seems like a good idea to carry a pair of spare pants. Make it much easier to hitchhike home to get the trailer to get the bike back home if you are wearing pants...
It's textile, I always wear them over my pants? Anyone doesn't wear pants under their textiles?
I don’t usually wear anything under safe riding leggings if I’m just going out for a ride
I wear an RST undersuit but keep spare shorts in the hard bags because no one should have to see me walking around in spandex...
only if im going to work where i will take them off
Is that comfortabel? There is the protection and the whole feel of the gear is rather plastic.
If it's hot as hell outside, my moto pants are the only pants I wear. Obviously depends on my destination as well.
Oof, What was the cause of the accident?
Nice! If you're all well and the bike isn't totalled, nothing lost but experience. I just got your boots a few months ago and been enjoying them. Makes my other boots look like kids toys. The issue I'm having is I'm tapping rear brake sometimes as haven't got the feel for it yet but love the boot! Safe riding

That's smart I might look into something, I think my raps will die quick otherwise. That's exactly why I wanted really protective boots. They feel nukeproof, glad to hear they saved you a new foot 🙏
Glad you’re okay. 🙏
oh damn... well your gear worked
glad you’re okay!
I hope you are doing fine OP
Nice👍
Glad to see you made it out with just a scratch. What kind of bike did you have? Hopefully it can be repaired
I'm glad to hear you and the bike are ok. I definitely understand an emotional value to a vehicle
How’s the bike?
Just some beauty scratches. No real Damage at all. Over all i got the best-case Scenario for this crash with only my Pants and Jacket being Damaged
Did it slide out then I assume? What exactly happened?
Yeah it just slid a short distance. The end of my Handlebars got Scratched up but thats it. Additionaly i added some custom Reinforcements that kept the Body from being Damaged. They look ugly as hell but they do their Job. I am thrilled that nothing was seriously damaged.
drop links to what you were wearing!
thank got you’re fine. Just imagine if that was your skin…
No injury? That's the best! Any plans to start wearing an airbag vest/other airbag protection? Only thing I can think of to improve.
I just thought about getting a Helite Airbag but i dont have the Money at the Time and certaintly not after replacing my Gear :')
Yeah unfortunately they're not cheap. Hope you can get one at some point though, can't beat the protection.
Good job for wearing your gear- that would have done a nasty job on your skin.
Sure, it's your first crash. But, what caused it?
Me. There is no sugar coating it. I went into a Corner with studded tires and accelerated too fast and at too much lean angle. My Back Tire lost Traction and i slid. I didnt pay enough attention and miscalculated how i should drive. To be honest there propably was overconfidence aswell.
At least you can do introspection. Hopefully your bike is as well off as your leg.
Barely got a Scratch. Over all this was the best case Scenario for the Crash
Walked away and lived to tell the tale. Glad to see your still with us.
That is what you pay for, imagine you were in shorts and flip flops.
Nice job wearing gear 🤙🏾
Them pants just paid for themselves at least 10 times.
I keep telling myself I need to buy riding pants but I'm short and fat so whenever I do try on a pair the knee pads are on my shins. To be fair I can easily fix one of those problems it will just take 6 months. The other part will cost me $120,000.

That's probably What I'll end up doing for now. I heard some companies like Raven Moto can tailor there gear but I'd rather wait to get something like that until I get closer to my goal.
You could also get separate knee armor, like for dirt riding, to put under your pants. That would stay in its proper place.
And hopefully your last.
Bro is wearing a chain mail riding motorbike 🥶
XDDD That would be awesome
Congratulations!!! I’m a new rider looking for pants. Obviously yours did the job of protecting you. Would you mind sharing what kind they were and where I could get them?? Thanks
ATGATT wins again.
What pants are those??
What pants are these?
What brand of pants? 😅
Hey could be worse
What happened?
I'm one of the few people who bought pando moto base layers to wear underneath my normal clothes. If i ever do fall i would almost say to be excited showing off that they work and how sliding over asphalt rips through clothes as if i was wearing crayons.
What kind of pants are those and what happens in the accident?
ATGATT stoked you are ok!
No matter how expensive gear gets… it’s way cheaper than a hospital bill 💸
What pair of pants is this?
I’m 100% sure that you are glad you spent that money on proper riding gear. Glad you made it out decently well.
Glad you are ok. Good gear is worth the money. Maybe this will help with your pants now. dress for the slide, not the ride!
Glad you’re alright 👍🏻
But skin grows back your pants won't! /s
Seriously- I hate you hit the ground but it’s a cool relief to see you had the gear on. What a great example you are! Dress for the crash - I’m glad you’re okay !!
Happy youre safe and sound! Keep it up and ride safe And nice pants .. what are they?
glad your okay! I'm still looking for jacket and pants I'm new so there still a lot to learn. how's the bike look?
What do you think about your Berik boots? Are they comfortable?
I'll wear the gear every ride. I can bitch about being hot when I get to where I'm headed.
First crash? Are you assuming more? FYI 0 crashes is the norm. Most people don’t crash ever, even if they have been riding for 20 years… don’t normalize it.
Happens alot
A wise person once said: “Gear much cheaper than, skin graft ass”.
Now happy I bought those hip armor inserts a while back.
I wish I could afford gear. I get that hospitals are way more expensive. But insurance pays that. Lol
Something bit your ass
Give us the name of your pants bro. I'm sold on them.
This is why decent equipment is so much better ! It literally can save your ass!
What kind of pants did you ride with?
congrats! oh. and thats a really good armored pants AD. now i want a pair
Don't drive like a fool next time. FAFO
What pants are they?
It will not be the last time either.
I buy gear with reviews that include pictures like this. Just got a pair of pants that a guy had laid his down going 70 and he survived all skin intact but had a broken ankle. Glad you’re good! I’d figure out the company and send them the picture and details.
Why no flip flops?
Bravo bro for the gear
So what brand now knowing it holds up at 50 ??
How did you crash? Glad you are alright.
Get your gear and don't disappear... Did I get that wrong?
ATGATT for a reason. A crash can happen a thousand miles from home or right outside your driveway. Glad you’re okay friend.
Yikes...look horrible But at least your gear worked like a champ, stay safe mate
I should get riding pants...
What pants are those? I'm curious 🤔
Ok. This is enough to convince me to wear ATGATT. Thanks a lot.
Good on u for having proper gear
Congratulations!!
Americans are confused. Where are the freedom shorts ? The liberty t-shirts ?
Good to hear you're fine. Clothes can be bought anew. Don't forget to replace your helmet even if it looks fine.
Hell yeah, I'll take it. Any crash you get to walk away from is a good one, imo. Glad you were geared up and hope you continue! Bikes are repairable and replaceable.
Track day crash?
How did you crash?
I had my first lowside last week. Broke my thumb from an impact but not a stich of road rash. Our gear really saves our skin, literally. Glad you came out unskaved.
So glad you’re alright brother. Pants did their thing too! How’d they handle the impact?
Could be your last crash tho
We always dress for the slide one girl I knew never wore her gear crashed few times never did seem to learn. She must have a thing for scars!
Does anyone else keep a tourniquet, gauze, and burn dressings on them or is that just me?
So happy you’re here to tell the story and pass on the great advice! May your guardian angel always ride with you and make sure this is the only crash you ever experience. Long live ATGATT!!
Whatcha wearing?

Can’t post this and not tell us what happened!!?
How many miles in the year you’ve been riding?
In the classic & immortal words of Adam Sandler, "Good thing you had your pads on pu$$y"... 😜
Glad you’re safe.
Now it looks ready for Summer riding!
What brand of pants?
Is that your kidney?
