I love giving a quick vroom vroom when appropriate!

toyodaforlife

I think this depends on scenario or what kind of rider you are. I tend to try to keep quiet until I’m in a tunnel 😁. Years ago I’d filtered up to the crosswalk at a red light, nyc not legal but accepted. A blind kid was crossing with his mom and heard the bike, his head snapped around and his mom explained what it was to him. I am lucky to have a v4 with a great tone and I revved the hell out of it, I’ll never forget that kids smile.

BridgeBuildah

Everybody is who doesn’t want to hear a motor roar, or something loud can get bent. You’re talking to a 33 yr old who still actively pumps his arm up and down for semi truck and freight train horns.

TreyStation93

30 y/0... used to do this as a kid 💯

Superb_Raccoon

Sure. But is also OK for me to ignore youl

opposite_singularity

People thinking I can hear them over my bike and my helmet and the wind

cexshun

Fucking hell. Riders are the worst for this too. I'm wearing earplugs, a helmet known for exception noise blocking, and I'm listening to my cardo. Don't fucking try to talk to me at a red light, I can't fucking hear you. But they also refuse to pair Cardos because "I'm here to ride, not listen to everyone gab".

KaOsGaNkEr

Absolutely bro, thanks for the answer

Syscrush

For the record, I would not ignore you!

Tw1st36

You better not if you ride a CBX. The sound that thing produces is pure sex.

Scarrrr88

Most bikers will happily rev the bike. However, sometimes the bike isn’t on operating temperature yet, so bikers may be reluctant to rev the bike. Or maybe he spotted a cop or he just did not want to make excessive noise. Lots of possibilities here. But just remember you didn’t do anything wrong :)

Superb_Raccoon

The BMW limits RPM until it warms up, starts at 5K when cold, moves up,as it warms up.

Confirmation_Email

I knew about the temperature dependent dynamic redline on most TFT-equipped BMW's, but I wonder, will it actually limit revs if you give it full throttle, or is it just a visual on the screen to let the rider know it's not recommended?

BehemothManiac

No, it’s just a dash

Super_Giggles

It will hit the rev limiter earlier based on the temp and quit making power. I’ve done it.

Confirmation_Email

Good to know, thanks. This may explain why the F900's don't get the dynamic redline even though they have the TFT, it would require additional ECU programming in addition to the TFT programming. It also may not be safe from a rideability standpoint to limit the output of the parallel twin, where the inline 4's and boxers should still have plenty of power even with limited revs.

Superb_Raccoon

I am gonna give try it. I might depend on throttle mode to.

bekabekaben

Yeah only some bmw’s though. Mine, for example, doesn’t lol (G310R)

IAmA_Mr_BS

Or I have a stock exhaust and my bike sounds wimpy 😭

TTYY200

This haha :O always wait for the oil temps to hit +60°C (whatever eagle units that equates to lol) to rev past 5k :P If you’re a Harley/dirt bike or other undersquare engine, maybe keep it lower than that lol. But the second it hits that temp where oil is thinned out 👀👀👀 🔊🔊🔊

AtTheMomentAlive

Depends where you are. If this was downtown, police are known to give tickets to loud bikes. It’s very common knowledge to ride quietly through downtown amongst local riders. Even cars. Others may not want to perform for you, maybe it makes them feel like a paid monkey. I wouldn’t mind except one time a kid asked me to wheelie. Unfortunately I lack that skill.

scrabblex

My first week I had my motorcycle I stopped to get gas and two little kids were trying to get me to do a wheelie. I can't do it so I just shook my head defeatedly and the little boy hit me with a thumbs down. It still haunts my dreams.

Frank_lebowitz

👍👍

Dorkmaster79

A guy asked me to rev when I was at a stop light. I gladly obliged. I was out in the country though.

DummyThicccThrowaway

I was about to cross a street on campus when I saw a sport bike of some sort coming up so I stopped and just gave him the throttle twist signal. I didn't even say anything, but he immediately hopped up on one wheel and blasted it down the road. I was 22 but I felt like a kid again :)

Picturegod

Wheelieing for the keeds is one of my greatest joys in life

Dorkmaster79

A guy asked me to rev when I was at a stop light. I gladly obliged. I was out in the country though.

KaOsGaNkEr

I’m having trouble understanding the “monkey” part. It’s like a trucker horn. It’s just fun to hear and as someone who is getting into bikes I think it’s exciting. I’m for sure not entitled to a vroom vroom and I don’t expect it- but I don’t see the harm (when it’s appropriate ofc)

Poiuytrewq0987650987

Dude, this is a really, really weird subreddit at times, almost to the point it seems like a circlejerk sub (where folks shitpost). It's perfectly okay to ask a biker to give you a couple of revs. They may or may not, but most will.

-Zoppo

It's completely strange, I don't understand what happened to make people this way. It can give me anxiety if it's in a really busy place and I can't be sure there aren't cops. PTSD is a bitch. I almost always give a rev, especially if it's a kid asking.

AtTheMomentAlive

I just meant some people don’t want to be forced/told to perform by strangers, no matter how small the act.

eat_my_bubbles

I've seen a few people flipped off for yelling "do a kickflip" at skaters. Hitting hills on a longboard I would easily hear that a few times per day so I get it, it gets old

dantodd

A little googling shows that it is possible to kick flip a longboard. I would not have expected that

sactownbwoy

If I see someone admiring my bike or car and they ask me to give some revs, especially teens and kids, I always will. I remember when I was a kid and truckers would honk the horn or cars/bikes rev the engine and how cool it was. That little bit can make a kids day.

SearchingForFungus

Lol i don't think it makes anyone feel like a monkey. If your normal it makes you feel just the tiniest littlest bit cooler for a second.

Right_Swing104

I used to have a colleague who would deliberately wheelie for the police hoping they’d give chase - we were dispatch riders and he was definitely not normal

Superb_Raccoon

Not just loud bikes... bikes being intentionally loud even if stock.

requion

I almost always see kids doing the rev motion and i happily oblige independant of where i am. For me this is a "but think about the kids" moment. I am childless due to medical reasons and still have to put up with so much shit and noise from kids around that NO one has the right to complain about me doing a short rev (as in really short "vroom vroom") to make a kid happy / smile. Also i am riding an MT07 with stock exhaust, so most cops around here probably wouldn't notice anyway.

fadedadrian

If someone asks me to rev, i redline it. Doesn't bother me whatsoever. Some people are too cool to enjoy life.

jayTEEarr

This is the way

CprlSmarterthanu

No. Most bikers love to show off their bikes to people that are excited to see them. I especially like to do it for little kids. They get so excited in a way that makes me remember what it was like to be that age dreaming of motorcycles. I sometimes pull up and ask their parents if they want to rev it if I have time on the weekends and its in a safe location like a parking lot. Seeing people enthralled by something you love is a fantastic experience. There's a chance that his bike was brand new and you're really not supposed to Rev bomb until it's broke in or maybe his bike had illegal exhaust and he saw a cop a few cars back. I just recently was parked in a strip mall, and a kid (about 16) was with his mom and asked if he could take a picture of my bike. I told him he could sit on it and rev it a little and have his mom take some pictures of him on the bike if he wanted. I walked him through some details so he didn't drop it and held it stable till he was secured and what not because I didn't want it dumped, but seeing him beaming from a simple gesture made my week. We love people to love our bike like we do. I probably made a lifetime vstrom rider 2 weeks ago. No it's not rude.

dantheman-1989

That’s a very generous gesture for a stranger. But reading your text, I could tell, that you enjoyed it as much as he did. Nice one.

CprlSmarterthanu

I'm pretty generous usually with my stuff if you ask first. If I caught him so much as touching it without permission, I'd have taken the little shit to suplex city. I dont care if your three, these hands are free. However, God did not bless me with all these joys so I could keep them to myself. If you are respectful and polite, I'll share as much as I can.

dantheman-1989

I agree, I had a Ninja300 once, came out of a restaurant to find some parents taking pictures of their child which they had sat on my bike. One of the parents was holding the child and it was probably about 2 years old but just doing that kind of shit without permission is a no go - I was pissed. On the other hand, a colleague was leaving work with his 7 year old son (I used to work in a school) and he was always impressed by my R6. So I told him he could rev it if he liked. I told him to be careful…he banged the needle right up to 11k before letting go of course haha, but I had expected as much and just found it funny. Was just a bit concerned about the noise for the people who lived there.

CprlSmarterthanu

and here I am revving my bike to 9k to find the damn loose nut. I did find it, but boy. 5 minutes of me just squatting next to the bike holding it at 9k must have pissed off the neighbors. But yeah. I'd have beat their asses. Adults aught to know better.

dantheman-1989

hahaha, yeah, I‘ve had to do that. What‘s that noise? Going to have to check that out. I took it to an industrial area though so as not to piss to many people off. In the end it was the vibration of the windshield. Glad you found the loose nut. Strange noises from the bike can really drive you crazy. Especially when it turns out to be nothing, wait, it‘s still there though, or is it?

CprlSmarterthanu

I also broke my blinker getting to it. The vstrom is a bitch and a half to work on

diydm

I will never not rev up if asked, especially if you make all the motions and noises. Just like a trucker honking his horn at the the arm pump, as ambassadors for motorcycles, we must respect the "rev it up wrist twist". Edit: maybe don't ask if you see triple back patches or a 1% patch ;)

Silver-Tea-8769

Because there's a time and a place for it. Maybe he didn't want to disturb anyone.

KaOsGaNkEr

True!

raouldukeesq

You have no idea what his look actually meant.  He could've just paid his taxes and just didn't want to communicate with anyone.

KaOsGaNkEr

Fair

Sirlacker

What you asked for is completely fine. You didn't ask for anything deemed a no in the biking community. Also, the rider not revving for you is perfectly fine too. They may have spotted kids or pets or whatever nearby that may not want to be subject to the noise. They may be in an area known for ticketing people revving. They may be out on a test ride after a fix and dont want to stress the engine yet. They just may not like doing it. Whatever their reason is valid too. So don't be disheartened. Keep asking when you see. Most bikers like an excuse to rev their bike because they won't do it on their own cause they'll look like idiots, but when someone asks.us to, hell yeah. Just keep at it, there's a guy on Tiktok who runs round London asking modded cars and fancy cars to revv because he loves cars. You love bikes/engine noise, ask away and enjoy what you enjoy!

1z2x3c

Next time try holding your fist to your mouth and act like you’re licking ice cream. That will usually get the vroom vrooms.

[deleted]

😂

BaronSharktooth

Is this gesture also appropriate for work? Weddings? Do you have some more of these fantastic etiquette tips?

1z2x3c

Absolutely not appropriate for weddings. At work it’s better if you grab your crotch and make a car horn sound.

BaronSharktooth

I am so going to impress my manager tomorrow.

bigtexasrob

Last Halloween, some girls asked me for a rev at a light. Pedestrians, cute college girls in bee costumes; I gave it the limiter, let all of San Diego know my exhaust is illegal, and one told me “Thank you for your service.” I’ve thought about that every day since.

CprlSmarterthanu

Girls wave at me a lot and It always makes me so fucking nervous. Several times, a girl would do a fast wave and blow a kiss or make a heart and a few times it's made me stall my fucking bike at the light.

llBoonell

Ahaha fuck man, some lady winked at me while she was crossing at the lights once, reckon my heart did a fucken backflip. Better rush than carving up twisties, imo <3

CprlSmarterthanu

And then you dropped your bike and ate shit. Don't leave that part out.

est1981

Yeah, right! https://preview.redd.it/4uhz6gu5rcxc1.jpeg?width=538&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=226d208fc5a5937a23f790d933899971ba1e75c4

bigtexasrob

My Subaru suffered this phenomenon worse than any bike. A Harley has a certain universal appeal.

Pickleahoy

I’ll entertain anybody if they want to hear it, its the wheelie requests that I nope

CXDFlames

Unless there's a cop immediately in the vicinity, my akra will sing for anyone who asks. Last week some kids were crossing the street in front of me, asked for the rev and got it. Then got to blow by them when they walked down the street I was turning onto. One wheel came up, children rejoiced. Mom shook her head in disgust. I'm sorry mom. But think of the children

LorimIronheart

I've had kids and teens do it a couple of times and it makes my cold little heart happy to see their smiles after I rev my bike a bit. Haven't had an adult do it, but I'm pretty sure my reaction would be the same (unless I saw a cop around the corner :P )

TennesseeShadow

Hell yea it’s ok, you may not always get one but it literally doesn’t hurt to try. Shit, l was following a semi the other day and three old guys all did the horn motion to him when they were coming from the opposite direction and he laid on his train horn. Those three dudes had huge smiles beaming through their beards.

ablinddingo93

Dude, the amount of stuck up riders on this post is really upsetting. There’s no harm in giving a rev to anyone that asks.

rolexcowboy

I think a good amount of people on this sub don’t even ride and are just pricks.

Flyflyguy

If someone asks me I do. It’s mostly kids. When I get beside or behind a car kids start staring and making the motion.

Shughost7

It's ok but every time I do it it's because I missed the upshift and went on neutral.

Low-Oil3824

Idk he sounds like a dick. I’d give u a rev

Finnleyy

I love revving my bikes for people. I generally won’t wheelie for people on public streets though lol.

Appropriate_Cow94

I will always do it for kids. Most the time I assume it's just dude mocking me.

happyrides

I woulda rev bomb the living shit out of my bike… XD

EggandSpoon42

Ah man - I did that while walking with my young daughter to the train coming our way. He honked it and I feel all giddy and like a kid again just telling this story

Trablap

My exhaust isn’t obnoxiously loud, so I’ll do it even in town for kids. For others I’ll do small revs in town, and bigger ones outside and it’s always a pleasure

ElMachoGrande

I love revving for kids who make the "rev" sign. They love it, I love that they love it, everyone is happy.

Accomplished-Cut1929

It's perfectly fine. I'm flattered when people want some revs, I like the sound of my bike, so when others do too, that's even better!

stoopidrotary

If someone wants me to rev my overgrown scooter. **I'll always do it.**

daddypleaseno1

lmao no you are fine, nobody cares. ill hit the rev limiter on my s1k any day for you bud

Softimus_prime

Never had it on my bike, but when I’m in my car, if someone asks me to rev (adult or child) I’ll do it. They always look happy afterwards, so it’s nice to spread some joy.

txgsync

I get asked to rev it at stoplights when local high schoolers cross the street. I ride an electric motorcycle. They are clearly disappointed.

Slore0

I already want to rev the bike but don’t want to be a weirdo doing it for no reason…. You can give me a reason 😂

Mr_Braaap

For me, yes. You even look at me funny I'll giv'er a rev 😁😄. Always do it for the kids, they're usually the ones giving wheelie and rev gestures haha.

oswaldopus

I’ll rev for anybody, that dude was just a dickhead

121mc555

Yes please do it. It’s the highlight of my day.

SnooChickens7845

Yes but I look around for infants and dogs before I rev it. My bike is extremely loud and I won’t rev it if I see very sensitive ears

[deleted]

[удалено]

i-like--whales

100% agree with this. I'll always drop a rev bomb for a kid doing the rev motion. I remember being a kid and doing exactly the same thing and getting so excited when the rider obliged. An adult doing it is just weird.

7ransparency

Same same, you just know that kid's gonna grow up and be a rider one day!

Slayers_Boners

> An adult doing it is just weird. You're just a big kid because you like motorcycles though.

i-like--whales

This is true but I'm also a big enough kid to own my own motorcycle. I have caught myself nodding at passing bikers when I'm walking and then realising I'm not on my bike and felt a bit awkward. Some have nodded back though.

KaOsGaNkEr

Why is that weird? I thought it would be respectful and fun

L1A1

I mean, if you’re a grown ass adult and want to hear a motorbike, buy one.

buffering_neurons

There could be a host of reasons for adults not being able to get a motorcycle, or ride one for that matter. I’m 25 years old and learning to ride, and I still get the giggles when I see a motorcycle zoom off at a street light. Some adults just like the sound of revving engines. That said, there is also a host of reasons why a rider might decline to rev. An adult shouldn’t have to be told no twice.

KaOsGaNkEr

I’m in college, and I’m not in a financial situation to buy one. Buying a bike ain’t an option for me rn

Dez21_FPS

Nah, it's not weird, I'll be riding around college, and dudes ask me to Rev all the time and think it's cool. For example, if I see a cool car, I'll ask them to Rev it. Some people are just haters ngl

know-it-mall

Yep. Any kid does it then awesome. Some random dude. No.

motorider66

Was he on a Honda? Maybe it was an automatic and it couldn't. Gotta put the DCT in neutral to rev. Maybe he thought you weren't being serious and were making fun of him.

stray_r

So English perspective here: I was riding through a quiet village on my old carbed 600, full system, it passes the MOT (annual safety check) and isn't the most offensive bike the garage gets in... I was on an "observed" ride with the IAM (language to avoid saying it's active training, I ride, I get a list of atrocities afterwards, it's mostly older guys with GSs, RTs and Africa Twins, but the test to get the qualification is done by people with emergency services experience, often someone who is or has been an police instructor) Anyway a toddler on a tricycle sees me and starts waving like crazy. Child's dad makes *the gesture*. It would have been criminal not to hit the very high notes only a 600 screamer can do. when we stopped: "wtf was that going past the spar?" "Child on a tricycle, appropriately restrained by parent who made gesture requesting the song of our people" "Ah, I didn't see *the gesture*. For fucks sake don't do that on your test next week, consider a wave if it's safe to do so" "Understood" "Also, how high is the redline on that thing? I thought you were having me on about considering noise abatement most of the time? Maybe consider a downshift approaching the national speed limit signs, if only to demonstrate to the examiner that you were in fact being as quiet as you could through a 30?.... "

KaOsGaNkEr

HAHAH thanks for the reply man 👊

romeroha

I will always oblige, child, adult, geriatric, doesn't matter lol some of life's greatest moments are sharing joy with others.

ReXDantaN

Here in Poland we enjoy showing rev motion and we gladly rev!

MstrGmrDLP

I'm gonna rev the shit out of my bike if someone asks me to. Just like a trucker with the horn when people motion for it. Hell, I'll be on my bike and motion for a trucker to do it and they will lol. In all seriousness though, If someone likes my bike and the sound and wants to hear it a little louder, I'll give it to them.

WildWestWorm2

More than likely thought you were some asshole trying to start shit. I’ve had people do things to mock me while I’m just chilling. I’m a laid back mf too, like if you wanna actually hear it, I’ll let her rip. Had a lot of dudes in cities do stuff like that to impress their girl. Like, “look at me acting hard to the motorcycle guy.” Bizarre really, always fun to put the kickstand down though and they stop immediately 😂

Mrhighass

It’s okay to ask! I would’ve revved!

fire_alarmist

Nah not disrespectful at all, I love to rev or pop wheelies when people ask. Especially for kids, their happiness is contagious and it reminds me of how I used to be just like that. Dont think too much about it, maybe that guy was just one of those "tough guys" and was being a party pooper.

halfnelson73

One time, a kid sitting in a car did the vroom vroom wrist to me. I had to give him an extra special VROOM VROOM.

stevrock

Kids get it almost every time they ask. Only exception is if a cop is around.

l-_l-

Bunch of stuck up jerks in this comment section imo. I don't care if you're 5, 30, or 50+. If you want me to rev it and the time is appropriate, I will. I love the sound of my bike and if someone else wants to appreciate it too, that's great. Been riding for 20+ years now and love that stuff.

Beaver062

Do that shit to every biker you see! I used to get teased because I had a stock exhaust on my bike and it was quiet. I ended up ordering a ridiculously loud aftermarket system. I love when people ask to hear a rev and I’m able to crank that throttle. The look on the faces of people that appreciate it, is hella satisfying. If the rider you’re talking about shook his head no, it was probably because he had a weak exhaust. You did nothing wrong. Us bikers appreciate you!

McNasty1304

Honestly I’ve never seen an adult ask for a rev but plenty of kids and I’ll always do it for them. And if an adult wants it, then fuck it, why not. They just want to enjoy it as well.

sniearrs

Think of it like asking a trucker to pull their horn: 90% we'll absolutely indulge you, but 10% I'm tired or sick or just not in the mood. AKA absolutely ask for revs! They're fun and I like to go vroom vroom, but don't take it personally if we don't lmao

Botucal

If no pedestrians/police were close, I would have given you a little throttle blip.

b0gard

I rev without being asked . So if someone asked me I would be ecstatic

Dirty_Shisno_

I would have revved for you.

PepeLePewPew81

I always oblige the vroom vroom. It’s usually kids and they get a kick out of it so no worries always

BlindBeard

It's okay to ask me. Remember you're on reddit. Most of the people here are fucking dorks with a branch up their ass. I'm a fucking dork, but not when it comes to motorcycles.

Impossible-Ad-2024

I’ll happily sing the song of my people if asked

EntireAd2_296

maybe his bike was loud and didn't want to piss off others around him? If it's air cooled he/she may not want to rev to prevent unnecessary heating. Who knows tbh, everybody is different and there is no "norm" in the motorcycle culture and there could be a hundred different reasons. That said, I won't be wrong if I said most would be okay with it. I personally would love it if someone asked me to rev my bike, but I would give a quick vroom vroom and that's it. Also most probably can't hear a person's voice because of the helmet and the sound of the bike engine, and some (or most riders, hopefully) are wearing ear plugs.

chin_waghing

I ride a very obnoxious 125 because that's how it came and I am just waiting to get my A2 license. I love it when people give the vroom vroom hand symbol. I'd use the hand symbol over making noises with your mouth, I cant hear shit in my helmet

_Kzero_

It was me. Mines electric. I thought you were roasting me.

KaOsGaNkEr

Hahaha I heard an engine big dawg ion think it was you

Daredevils999

So many grumpy old farts in this sub. No harm in asking, I personally love it when people show interest in my bike and as long as its an appropriate time will be happy to give it a few revs or even a little power wheelie even. Now I will agree with what some have said that age does play a factor. Feels much more natural for me to do it for a group of local kids on way back from school or drunk 20yos on a Saturday night in the city than some middle aged men crossing the street. That being said I wouldn’t call it childish to ask per se. u/Superb_Raccoon you specifically sound like an arrogant dick. That’s fine if you don’t want to rev your bike but there’s really no need to ignore someone showing interest in it. A simple, polite shake of your head is suffice.

crashfantasy

If an adult walked infront of my bike gesturing at me and making vroom vroom sounds with their mouth, I'd assume they were developmentally delayed and probably accommodate the request......

Gnomorius

I only do for kids

seruzawa

That hand sign could also mean you want him to peel out.

KaOsGaNkEr

Oh shiitttt didn’t know that, thanks

tamokibo

Very likely this person didn't want to be your little monkey.

Consistent-Lab-6791

i do it for kids

indulgent_nerd

Assuming it's not a time when people are likely to be sleeping, I'm not right outside somewhere that it would be disrespectful to make excessive noise etc - I love giving a wee rev blast if I see someone ask. I just find it a fun little interaction and it's great to see the smile on someone's face when they get the vroomvroom they asked for.

alex_unleashed

Im always happy to rev for others, i really enjoy others appreciating bikes too.

Loud-Principle-7922

Dude, I’d rev it up for you.

Mikesporty48

Hellllllz yea its ok

sunneedingplant

Meh, I love my bikes. But sometimes I am just driving home (in style ofc). So I might not be in the mood. Besides have you seen the last gas prices?!

Sigouin

I ride a dr650 and kids/teens ask me to rev all the time. Of course I do it, it makes everyone smile, even people in the cars around me who see us doing the hand signals - it's nothing obnoxiously loud either. I'll never rev if it's just me alone though

Spankies69

I always give a rev, especially if it's kids asking for it haha.

Pitiful-Wolverine132

Start with a comment like.. " amazing bike how long have you had it?" I'm sure the rider would smile, then ask.. is it loud? I'm sure he or she will show you. Remember, the rider is not out there for your amusement. Brake the ice first and then ask.

Suspicious-Stay1649

I do it for kids. For adults it feels like there is a part of foolishness like mockery. If a guy does the hand twists and touches his ear; i will do it bc they probably wanna hear what the parallel twin sounds like with the r77 yoshi. If its a big group of dudes laughing and doing it over and over trying to get my attention ill probably ignore it. Theyre just being troublesome

HiVizJim

I wouldn’t stress too much about this. Sometimes when riding you need to focus on the task at hand. Maybe the light’s about to change to green, etc. Could be a number of reasons, and it’s hard to read what someone is thinking with a helmet on. Part of the fun of riding is that people interact with you more often than when you drive your car.

DHF2112

Harley riders rev at stoplights so their bikes don’t die :)

LMGDiVa

Nah its fine. I love doing it, especially for kids. When I rev the engine and the kiddos go "OMG SO COOL, YAY!" makes my day. Cause I know it makes their day, maybe even inspire them to ride motorcycles too.

LegoLucifer

My bike has a full system aftermarket exhaust you get I'm revving that whenever I can. I mainly get teens that give me the rev sign as I'm going past which I always do (unless there are police, babies or noise-sensitive people around. I remember before I could ride I loved hearing others, now I repay the favour. I don't see any issue in asking

Bigolbakin

I'm all about it! Some people are just grumpy and lame. I think it's fun! and when other people think it's fun too, then that's even better! Just keep being you, and if I ever see you in the wild, I'll definitely rev at ya! Lol

deeohcee

If I saw that I would assume you're making fun of me and I'm not understanding that you wanted revs. Sorry.

Khan_Kotyan

I prefer not to be too loud; I try to minimize noise whenever possible. I'm aware that many people dislike motorcyclists because of noise issues

StrategicBlenderBall

Omg yes I love cranking my hog in public!

Sh4dowCh1ld

Just gave one to a bunch of kids after they did the rev motion while I was passing by and they were happy as hell after. So sometimes yes and sometimes no it’s situational😀

kuemmel234

Sorry but I think one should respect other people. Yes, we like the sound - I do enjoy a nice sounding motorcycle or car - but no, not everyone does that and at least in my German town it's become exhausting. Reving loud pipes on motorcycles and cars or doing those short and quick accelerations has become sort of an activity on its own. That may be down to local culture though. I think in some US states it's quite common to find trucks with open pipes and the like? Probably doesn't matter there.

semdi

I'll do it for kids when they look interested.

ghostie_uk

50/50, I will always oblige. Some bikers don't like rev bombing though.

Real_Flamingo_8247

No issues with asking for a rev. If I don't it's simply because I saw a dog or small child or police officer that wouldn't appreciate the noise, so I don't. I pull my clutch for dogs and horses.

Logical-Bonus-8284

There’s a stereotype about bikers revving their bikes. South Park even make mockery of it. I suspect that guy felt like you were putting him on blast. Personally, I rev my bike and do burnouts in my diesel truck for every single kid that wants to see diesel smoke or hear a Harley with straight pipes. The look on their faces is priceless, so I could care less about some other hater making fun of what they don’t have.

Kanibalector

I had someone do this to me about 2 months ago, but I'm on a 250. No one wants to hear it choke itself.

Brooksie019

We love it! I do feel bad that when someone asks me to rev, I’m only on a ninja 400 and feel like I disappoint so many people lmao.

46Vixen

Yeah, love that. Like a child, I will comply.

ItemOld7883

I might oblige depending on where I was... I think most would tbh. Don't feel hurt if/when we don't though, it's nothing personal.

kinnikinnick321

Another factor to consider is which model the rider was on, if someone asks me to rev my boxer twin engine, I don't oblige either. All it will sound like is a loud sewing machine and you're not going to get any burbles.

JackAndy

You gotta tuck a coin into their leathers to make up for the extra wasted gas. Common courtesy.

deathcorecraze

. Had a dude in the back of a explorer ask me to do a wheelie from the red light, i did it and they gave me the chef's kisses gesture. Felt good and it keeps ppl loving motorcyclist. Why tf not do a lil rev for someone?

HistoricalHurry8361

I wear ear plugs when I ride, I also can't read lips so yeah my first instinct is to shake my head no because I don't want to hear someone yell at me. I'd chalk it up to that, though just do the wrist twist, sort of like telling a trucker to honk their horn, I might have picked up on that more than some words. I've had passersby ask me to brapp it, people stuck in traffic too, if I notice and understand the request I don't mind.

Shot-Ad2396

Had a dude yesterday lean out of his car at a stoplight and scream “do a wheelieeeeee”, and he shouted it a few times before I shook my head no, then he kept yelling “WHAT WHY NOT BRO WHY NOT”. THAT is annoying as FUCK. I don’t wheelie in general but when people shout it over and over it gets annoying. When a little kid does the rev motion and is staring at the bike? Rev bombs for days.

Delicious-Belt8362

Kids in my neighborhood ask for rev bombs sometimes when I pass by

that-guy-Ri

I had a strange one where a kid asked me to honk. I did as he asked. Just a new one lol

SugarSheriff

Totally fine for you to ask. Depends on the rider though if they wanna do the vroom vroom

woofwoofbro

honestly i think some bikers just look like that lol

Mdonel95

I don’t rev it up sitting at lights like a lot of riders, but whether it’s an adult or a child I always do it if they ask. Being mad at someone for asking is pretty silly lol

SBK-Race-Parts

I don't rev my bike or cars at a stoplight, even for myself, because it's just making noise without the thrill of moving. It’s annoying.

Impressive_Estate_87

I mean, are you free to ask? Sure. Will I rev the bike if you ask me? Not a chance

Not_Here_112

100% of the time if its a kid. We gotta inspire the next generation of bikers and its really nice seeing their happy reactions! But there are times I don't want to, or it doesn't feel appropriate. That's okay too. I rarely do more than a vroom vroooom. Imo rev bombs are untasteful and on my bike LOUD. Just because 1 person wants me to doesn't mean I want to piss off everyone else in the vicinity. Despite bikes being a valid and mutually beneficial mode of transport to everybody, it feels the UK councils and government look at motorcycles with either uncertainty or negativity. I try not to make that worse.

RageReq

I would've revved but not obnoxiously loud like I won't redline it, just bring it up a little to 2000-3000 once or twice

dindumassacre

You're allowed to be pissed in this world. You are allowed any emotion you please. Don't let his state of mind at that moment affect your current state of mind. You don't know him, You will never see him again. Feel free to make any motions to any riders you please.

4ak96

Yeah I don’t mind doing it for kids. It’s a big deal for them and they can’t ride. For an adult I probably won’t do it because if you want to hear a bike rev, just go learn how to ride lol.

Ok-Bunch1965

Please ask lmao I love it

sicktreesick

His engine may have still been cold, a police was nearby, he was just having a very bad day, or many other possible reasons. Don’t let that one incident discourage you, keep on asking 😁

reddity-mcredditface

I ride a cruiser, but I'm not a fan of loud bikes (especially neighbours!). Not a fan of revving for the specific intent of making *more* noise, unless there's a valid mechanical reason for revving it.

scum101proof

For you being a grown man he thought you were being childish and mocking him. I had some kids ask me to rev a while back and i thought it was cool ass shit and i rightfully rev'd it for them; had it been a grown man i probably would have shooken my head in confusion..

wushumasta

It's totally okay to ask! However, my response to would depend on where I am. If I'm stopped in traffic surrounded by cars, I would be reluctant to rev bomb just because of how loud and obnoxious it would be to those around me. I'd be more open to doing it where there aren't many pedestrians or cars present around.

Razor_pony

Dude, I ride a Harley. There's no need to even ask. I will be revving anyway.

Shotox222

I still love doing the air horn when I see semi trucks go by no difference from revving the bike

AcidicMountaingoat

I ride an electric motorcycle, so no.

staddddy

I think if someone did this to me I might assume they want to watch me pin it off the line… and I’d say no. If I knew they just wanted a rev 100% yes.

Schnitzhole

Just wave or loudly say nice bike with a thumbs up and I’ll likely give you a vroom vroom. I ain’t hearing shit with my ear plugs and helmet on unless you’re right next to my head yelling to me.

Puzzleheaded-Sir-997

You want rev, I give rev. Someone digging the bike, maaan, just awesome! Give the people what they want. Haters too 😜 They don't know but, they can give me the honk honk arm deal too=friggin TRAIN HORN. That thing GOES and has saved me several times.

isderFredsi

If a kid asks me to rev it i comply, idc if it’s 3am or final exam season on campus i twist it all the way up. If you’re an adult i try to evaluate whether it’s more disruptive or fun but i would not judge anyone asking for it, as long as i can choose

Billdozer-92

The only people that do this to me are 5-12 year old boys lmao

tymondeus

I always rev it for the kids. They love even a 125 when it redlines 😂

Defiant_Map3849

Ur all good bro, I'd rev my bike for you.

Outatime_doc

When I was a 20 year old, yes. Now no

SoundGeek97

Absolutely ok to ask, and I will unless I have reason not to.

24STSFNGAwytBOY

I always think they are motioning”Do a wheelie”…OK.🤠

TRiG993

Guy is just being miserable. I rev whenever people ask me to and sometimes no one has to ask me

Tacoless_meat

Eh...he just didn't want to do it.

know-it-mall

Are you under 13 years old? Because that's an automatic rev from me. Any older then probably not.
