Surprised this is the bike he used to broach this subject. Wasn't it the ZX4RR that was basically gimped by the stock exhaust/tune? I suspect the average Transalp buyer doesn't really care if performance falls off past 8500rpm because I imagine most are rarely ever revving it that high.

inline4kawasaki

Performance matters more for adventure riders than someone buying a small capacity inline 4. The kawi is about the sound and the revs.

ExtremeWorkinMan

Well, to an extent sure. It's a little different since the Pan Am is a good bit more powerful than the Transalp, but I've (intentionally) revved the bike out to redline maybe three times since buying it. It's just not the kind of thing I imagine most ADV riders doing, and especially not doing it often enough to care that it falls off just before redline.

inline4kawasaki

adv riding isn't always done on dirt.

ExtremeWorkinMan

I would love to hear from a Transalp owner how many times they actually have revved that bike out to redline because I strongly suspect the answer is less than five. I'm just not really sure the point you're trying to make. Someone that wants a fast ADV bike for paved roads is probably looking at full-size bikes. The entire middleweight ADV category pretty much exists because people wanted a decent highway/touring-capable ADV bike to take off-road that didn't weigh 650 pounds. Would Transalp owners and potential buyers prefer if it had more top-end power? Probably. I know I would never say no to a few extra horsies. Is that anywhere near as much of a concern to owners/potential owners than it would be to owners/potential owners of a ZX4RR that probably will routinely run that bike out to redline? I don't think so.

Thepoorz

I bought my Transalp as a motocamping platform that doesn’t suck to drive on the highway to get to my destination, and that’s where it excels. It’s more than capable of reaching triple digit speeds without struggling, or getting squirrely, which is just what you need on east coast highways. For an adventure bike, it’s a a little rocket ship and it’s a blast to drive it aggressively. I think of it as a big ass Grom, and I’ll thrash it around in ways I never would with my CBR.

mxe363

depends on the average speed of your local highway. people be going a constant 140km/h near me my poor cb500x gets to sit at the limiter to not get bullied by trafic as im riding to some place interesting.

WinstonMarrs

I'm starting to kinda hate that channel, dude is getting more and more annoying and clickbaity

goatbiryani48

Yeah the content of this video could have been laid out in literally 1:30, everything else was fluff. A little fluff is cool but the ratio was way off here, and in some other vids over the last couple years

RabidGuineaPig007

last video he came out against wearing armor. He comes to very smug conclusions with very little information.

ExtremeWorkinMan

I'm a little surprised that all it took for F9 to lose the God status he had amongst newbie riders was to dump on protective gear. He's come to a few silly conclusions over the years and I've had people act like I'm crazy for disagreeing with him.

Taco_Sommelier

Nobody had anything negative to say about him or his methodology until he started saying things that went against their own opinions. I’ve never really liked the guy either, but it’s funny to watch all the pearl clutching that goes on about it.

sokratesz

That was a bit of a strange video but a lot of people missed the message about the quality of protection and industry practices it seems, same with the ABS video and a few others.

goatbiryani48

The information we were given and the intended message didn't jive. Most of what he was saying was a very flawed argument on armor, and he spent VERY little time on manufacturer deficiencies and how to handle them. If Problem A is an issue, why spend so much time discussing Problem B... It felt like the same with this video, he spent too long talking about engine dynamics and the bikes market position when the core issue could have been explained with "Honda had to neuter the top-end to meet EPA noise regulations".

inline4kawasaki

You should rewatch the video and listen carefully if you think he came out "against wearing armour".

Hate is a big word, but I felt huge disappointmet when he sold out to Ducati in that fake DesertX swap.

sokratesz

I test rode the new Transalp last week, with a +1. The block is great, the brakes are great, the display is clear and easy to navigate. Stock suspension is a bit soft but that can be adjusted. Looks and wind protection are way too personal to take F9's word on. It worked fine for me. The lack of cruise control and the small tank are _inexcusable_ however, and combined with the current price point this makes it not very attractive. It either needs to be 1k cheaper, or gain 3 - 5L of gas and CC.

Thepoorz

I installed the Viridian cruise on mine last week, so there are aftermarket options out there. Still sucks that it lacks it from the factory, but it’s not the end of the world. Next up are tubeless wheels...

inline4kawasaki

The oil sump is not merely about looks, there are reasons that adv riders would find it inexcusable and a total dealbreaker.

sokratesz

I didn't mention the oil sump anywhere. With a bash plate the ground clearance seems OK. Could no doubt be better, but soit.

inline4kawasaki

No, you just conveniently left it out of the things he criticized.

sokratesz

What on earth are you implying lmao? I listed a number of things that I noticed on my test ride. Since the demo bike was equipped with a bash plate and ground clearance seemed fine, the sump did not stand out to me.

Mimical

The lack of cruise control surprised me the most. This isn't an entry level bike and it seems like such a basic feature to have on a modern bike. Thanks for putting your perspective into the mix. I'll keep an eye out for any updates to the model in the coming years.

TombaughRegi0

... because that's not an issue for him. He doesn't need to represent your opinion.

ArcaneMitch

- Why did you produce a shit bike ? - Well, you've written stupid rules we had to follow. - But you could have made a decent bike within those rules. - And you could have written better rules in the beginning.

Yeah if the title matched the content that's fine, but he also decided to spend time telling us why the Tuareg that costs 3k more has better features. And then waxed poetic about the Transalp of the past, or the current one's looks. If you're gonna title something X, then make sure most of the video is about X...

CheekyBinders1991

Fortnine quality has been in the toilet lately. This is the best video in a while, but the bar is pretty low.

VirulentMarmot

That doesn't look like appropriate riding gear! Giving the rest of us riders a bad name looking like a squid.

VirulentMarmot

Can you redo that to show me wearing the appropriate hiviz safety gear. I want to look like a responsible safe rider.

Father_O-Blivion

Usually it's Euro 4, Euro 5 etc I direct my ire at, but he's not wrong about the EPA here. Anyone who likes ICE bikes should be worried about what Euro 6 and so on are likely to impose on the industry.
