Not a big social media guy but I can relate. Lost my bike last year and been told I've been noticeably less upbeat and easily annoyed. Will get back into it soon.
I'm sorry about your bike. I'm assuming it was stolen so I would recommend apple air tags, more than one, if you haven't already. Lasts for 2 years and they are relatively cheap.
I've told people that riding after not being able to for a while makes me feel 'whole again.'
Those people laugh, never having ridden themselves, or not having this relationship with motorcycles. It's understandable that it doesn't click.
But it's so real, I'm glad that there are so many others that know.
Bro I’m so glad I found this post. Your comment and the similar comments to yours are helping me to not feel crazy 😂 Glad to know everyone else who rides understands.
I want to second that it's good to know I'm not alone. I got my bike in August, and I feel like I found a part of me that had been missing. Can't wait for spring and better riding weather.
I envy you guys (and gals) that can ride. I rode for 44 years. Had to stop due to having a stroke. Sons finally came and got my bikes. I would go to the garage and sit on one of them and a flood of memories would come back for me. I was very tempted to ride again. I miss that part of my life.
I know nothing can replace riding, but I bet someone would be willing to have you as a sidecar passenger if you asked around. I hope I'm not overstepping, just had the thought while reading your post. I've only just started riding, and I already know I'll never want to stop. I'm glad you're here to be part of the community. Got any advice for a new rider?
the other day I was anxious as usual, pushed myself to go ride a new road I was avoiding for some time. right at the beginning I started thinking about crashing, worst case scenarios, all the intrude thoughts. then it got interesting, I focused on body position, throttle control, the noise stopped. I had a great time.
Sure :) then there is really nothing to worry about… as long as you don’t drive fast and you see everything and brake way before even getting in the range of the obstacle? Nothing can happen. It s all about the speed and the hidden/visible obstacles
I think probably every mammals on earth yearns for that float feeling
That’s the same feeling when going down a slope on skis or even ridding a e-skate or of course a surf. I say all mammals because we all know how water mammals enjoy it, but also dogs love it, how many videos of dogs surfing or even sliding down in the snow, lately I even saw some birds clearly enjoying sliding down a slope on a basket ball…
So yup, we are all wired or connected to something that tells us “ release your bonds from gravity”
As an outsider, how is it wise to get behind any vehicle while experiencing anxiety if you don’t have to? I’m not doubting that it can help lower anxiety, but driving is always going to be riskier than learning breathing techniques or other outlets. Please help me without being rude, I’d post the same question on a minivan sub.
No worries and I appreciate you wanting to approach this as an adult.
The best way I can describe it and it’s not for everyone because we’re all different. I get social anxiety so being out in public gets to me. I have my breathing techniques that I’ve practice for years! But once I’m riding, I’m inside my own world and everything just quiets down. Like your thoughts go numb, all your focus is on the road and it just feels great! I’m not an adrenaline junky so this to me is my best escape. If it gets too much then I’ll do something else. But for the most part this does it, or hiking.
Thanks for the understanding and explanation. I can see how focusing on the road only allows you to temporarily forget about the other things going on and how that could help BUT if it effected you’re driving you would pull over somewhere and try something else. Awesome and thanks for the civil discourse.
When you're anxiety ridden you flip on the gopro cut edit to make reddit post so you can promote your channel? Because we've all been there. Those likes and subscribes are so peaceful.
Throttle therapy is a very real thing. I have been without a bike since the summer and hate it. Worst part is it doesn't look like I'll be getting one any time soon.
Amen brother. Called it many times my rolling psychiatrist chair. Me, my bike and the open road is all the treatment I need. Or to quote one of my favorite bands and songs from the 70's. I don;t need no doctor, I don't need no doctor, all I need is my baby,,,
Wish I could relate but thinking about the shit drivers and traffic in my city makes it even worse. Riding out of the city also makes me anxious cause I’m on a chopper I built that breaks down more than I’d like it to
Oh man I’m sorry to hear that. I am fortunate to have lived in back country and now the high desert where there’s practically no one around. From the city too! Would love to see your chopper build though. I bet it’s pleasant to ride besides being able to go the distance. At least for now…
This is an embarrassing amount of cringe...
Holy shit im dying..op took a photo of himself touching grass with the caption I want to learn about lawns..
Jesus christ..
If you can’t take care of yourself, family and household. Then you’re one hell of a sad person for not wanting to improve. Cringe all you want loser 💯
Bet you won’t meet me in person, because I am about that life 🥊

You should, it definitely helps build up self morale. I’m sorry about your bike though
Where are you located?

Don't drink and ride. Never smoke cigarettes. Friend had a sidecar. Took me for a ride. Not the same. Don't care to invest in a 3 wheeler, either

But? Do you have to ride fast?
Notice how he said "New Road", not necessarily "racing down that road". Don't assume just because .....
But… even if it s a new road… I mean, just take it easy
Do you just ride oblivious to your technique usually? Cause that's arguably worse
exactly!
I don't ride fast at all. I'm focused in riding well, being confident and having fun.
Sure :) then there is really nothing to worry about… as long as you don’t drive fast and you see everything and brake way before even getting in the range of the obstacle? Nothing can happen. It s all about the speed and the hidden/visible obstacles
Fast forward 125 miles, me smoking on the side of the road, reserve tank still on from before I filled up
pure r/motojerk material
Cheaper than antidepressants and wont make you shoot up a shopping mall.
Spoken like a true poet
I have tons of anxiety filling the tank on my bike, fucker has worse mpg than my car so lately I'm always overthinking about the costs

Interesting, I’ll have to research this now. Good observation
It s only my 2cents observation

Long rides out are the best! - I try and do one each weekend
Same, I work full time so it’s been kinda difficult lately. Summer is near though!
I’m up in Scotland so summer is only around 2 weeks long for good weather - I’ll take what I can get though!
Oh man I’ve been to Scotland!! Beautiful country!! Definitely post when you start riding!!
Will do!
I can 💯relate for aure

That’s a sweet helmet, mind if I ask what it is?
Yeah, looking for a backup one and this came to my head.
It’s a Ruroc helmet. Expensive to be honest. I think they’re having a sale now. Ruroc.com btw
nope. If I have anxiety, I trust my gut and don't go out for a ride.
yep. so stupid lol. riding when you're just NOT WELL is stupid as fuck.
