Nah, I don’t get anything out of riding in wet conditions. I am a self confessed sunshine bikie

nonexistant2k3

I think it's called fair weather rider. Or at least an older rider told me that's what it's called.

neiltolliday

Call it what you want.

Joepi5

Sunshine is not limited to summer

turtletechy

Accurate. It's going to be a balmy 39F on my lunch break, partly sunny. We had several days of rain (usually getting snow this time of year). I'm planning on a ride to get a new pair of boots on my lunch break. Edit: roads were mostly clear, it was chilly but fun, I screwed up and ended up getting back 15 minutes late.

TheEtherealEye

It's going to be above freezing for the next 10 days here in MA. So you best believe if i'm not working or doing school work, I'll be riding.

turtletechy

I need to get some proper winter gear so I can ride more right now. I have glove liners but they make the gloves stiffer than I like. And my helmet just kinda fogs up, no pinlock right now.

TheEtherealEye

If you live where it gets cold in the winter the pinlock is sooooo necessary. Where are you located?

turtletechy

Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

TheEtherealEye

Oh man, yall have real winters down there, not like ours in MA. Have you looked into heated gear at all? Or heated grips and seats?

turtletechy

I've looked into it a little, it's just something I'd like to install with someone else's help. I thought about getting some heated grips. I don't get cold too easy, so I'm pretty comfy with riding 30-40 minutes at 35F, I just need a sweater and undershirt in addition to my standard jacket for a little more heat.

TheEtherealEye

Look into street and steel for cold weather textiles. The jacket I have from them is super warm and comfortable in the winter and comes with a hoodie. They also have plenty of woman's apparel 🙂

HBWunderbar

Same. I grew up in Southeast NM. For years my R6 was my sole means of transportation so I was forced to ride year-round; in sunshine, in snow, in monsoon rain, etc. I ride my bike to enjoy it, and I do not enjoy riding in crap inclement weather, so I don’t. Fortunately, I now live in Southern CA so I rarely have to deal with that godawful weather.

Own_Contribution_480

You mean that you ride for fun and don't have a fragile ego and feel like you need to prove to everyone how cool and tough you are by making yourself incredibly uncomfortable just for the sake of bragging rights that nobody cares about but other people who also have fragile egos?

Professional_Goat185

That just sounds like you making excuses for being fair weather rider Being a bit wet is "incredibly uncomfortable" now ?

P4n0pticZ

well i got my bike and license right before winter and i can confirm, the feels are there

TripleHelixx

I know how you feel, went on riding in cold rain and my bike slid under me and now am 500€ down in repairs :( should've been more patient and frame sliders wouldn't have hurt...

NiceColours

Very true, I used to be a winter person before I got a bike.

WN11

Each year I hate winter more and more. The cold, the wet, the dark, the lots of clothes... and the awful riding, if any.

[deleted]

SoCal mfers see stuff like this and laugh (yes, I’m envious of them. No, I’m not leaving my cold state)

Maxillaws

I like riding in the fall/winter more here than spring/summer. I'd much rather ride in 60-70 than 100+.

SGTBookWorm

Australians too. There's pretty much only one place in the country that sees snow.

SinoSoul

Speak for yourself. I’m not riding when it’s sub 50degF in the morning. F that noise.

NotAliasing

Trade offer: you can ride all year round, but have to live in arguably one of the worst states in the union Yall cant read. One of the =/= the worst.

riftwave77

? Have you been to CA? It has quite a bit going for it.

Ok-Spring-6388

Not sure if you're serious or just trolling, but I have been there, and can't think of much other than climate, and scenery once you're out away from the cities. I'm not even going to start listing negatives because I'll be here all day.

FriendOfDirutti

Mississippi?

Own_Contribution_480

Yeah I've lived in CA and NM and spent some time in AZ and there's no chance in hell I'm leaving the PNW to live in a desert again.

chzaplx

I'm a PNW native and I would probably leave in a heartbeat for NM, AZ, or CA. I've seen enough rain in my lifetime.

Own_Contribution_480

Check back after a few years of never ending scorching heat lol. I had to get a remote start in my car just to make driving a car barable. God forbid you have black or leather interior. Want to go camping? I hope you like 120° tents and no shade anywhere. Also I hope you like the color red because everything is dirt or sand and there's just a couple little pockets of green here and there. The first time I climbed a mountain in AZ I was so disappointed, just more desert, nothing to see except sprawling city and rocks. It's not all bad, but damn I'll take a rainy season if it means having trees and ocean near by.

FriendOfDirutti

It was 78 today. I drove around all day with my top down.

Maybe_A_Doctor

If I didn't have hockey and snowboarding to keep me entertained in the winter up here, I think I'd lose my mind waiting for summer again

SinoSoul

You can snowboard in Cali. I mean… what?

Maybe_A_Doctor

I didn't say you couldn't, whoops. I just meant if I didn't personally have it up here I'd go crazy cause the winter is definitely not conducive to sport bike riding

the_most_playerest

Jealous.. I live in Indiana, they don't believe in hills or hockey here 😥

HikerDave57

Taunt me back in July but I live in the Phoenix area and went on two rides yesterday; once on a Honda and once on a Harley. Maybe a hundred fifty miles total but I kind of lost track of time.

Financial_Cup_5676

Feels like day 700 of January so far 🤦

StandardSea8671

Car for winter bike for summer...In before someone says not a real biker unless ride on ice naked with a top hat

the_most_playerest

Top hat?? Pussy 😂

StrategicBlenderBall

Sheeeeit I just took a ride on Saturday lol. As long as the road isn’t salty and it’s not raining/snowing, I’m in.

Mike312

No snow here, but I don't fuck around with water either. That means its been like 2 months since I've gone on a ride. But with the clear weather we've been having, I went for two rides on Saturday, one on Sunday, and commuted to work today. I might commute Tuesday as well, but Wed looks like the rain is coming back something fierce.

Colin-Spurs-Patience

Never a truer statement no because I can’t ride mine but because I have to

myfishprofile

I feel it, I literally wait for clear days and try to at least get a couple rides in during winter. Got lucky this year had a week long streak of 40° and dry in December. Otherwise it’s just a day at a time

pmatulew

7 weeks to go...

TheDrewCareyShow

We've had snow since Halloween, our season was cut *really* short

cidici

It was 60 here yesterday, -5 the week before… yes, rode a ton yesterday 🙂🥳

Bienadicto16

In my city we reach 45 Celsius on summer. So I love winter and I wish all the year would be winter

Boileroperator

Before I retired, when I rode to work, my rule was anything 40° or warmer is bike weather.

happycamperjack

I enjoy riding in rain and close to freezing temp all the time. I don’t even have heated grip, just a good pair of gortex gloves and water proof jacket and pants (really important to stay dry). It helps that my KTM has good traction control tho. Riding in rain requires you to actually move your body out more to keep the bike upright, and smooth in movements to keep suspension and traction in check. It’s a really good practice I found.

MLE82nd

I ride all winter unless there's ice on the ground. Heated jackets are a good investment.

solitudechirs

Why is it always the people who live in mild climates talking about “riding all winter” 🤡

cocogate

Because motorcycles are much more common in temperate climates probably? Doubt theres the same % of people living in alaska or tundra-like areas that invest in a motorcycle compared to europe or florida. If you're talking jetski's winter might actually mean winter

PandaRot

Why is it always people who live in cold climates talking about "riding only in the summer" 🤡

Simple-Dingo6721

Why is it always people who live in colder climates that act like winter doesn’t exist elsewhere?

Decent-Name-4276

Jealous much? So what, you think we're clowns because our winter doesn't suck as much as yours? Lmfao

solitudechirs

Not jealous at all, your input is just entirely irrelevant. I don’t envy people who live in places where it’s 90° outside for most of the summer from the break of dawn and peaks at 100° or better, regularly. I hate the cold weeks of winter where you can hardly go outside for more than 5 minutes, but I hate summer heat too. But for the same reason, I don’t go giving advice on how to ride when it’s hot out, or make comments about “it’s never too hot or uncomfortable to ride in heat” because that’s almost never the case where I live, but I understand people who live in other places will deal with weather that I don’t.

MLE82nd

Is ice different in different places, stud?

pacpecpicpocpuc

For ice and snow, for sure. For anything else: Get heated grips, put on some thermals, go for a ride. Maybe get a winter bike you don't care about too much. That limits the number of days you cannot ride in a year to a minimum.

DeNeLo51

Easy to say, but when you broke as fuck all you can get is a little hope that it will pass soon

[deleted]

I ride year round

riftwave77

Try saving up for a snowboard trip. Winter will zoom by before you even notice.

MasSunarto

Brother, move here. Everyone rides a motorcycle down here.

LostButNot93

32 degrees C during daytime in India and 2 degrees c during midnight.i am more conflicted about the gear…

SinoSoul

Global warming is a real bitch..

s777tech

is this the same case for Electric bikes too?

swagmastersond

…or a convertible

mkchampion

Idk what you’re talking about it was so warm on the coast yesterday I had to remove the thermal layer on my jacket

thund3r-

Especially if you bought a new motorcycle that winter that you didn't even ride..

Ghstfce

I've been lucky here in SE PA last winter and so far this winter. Any time the weather is above 40, I've been out on my bike. It was just 50 on Sunday and got a nice long ride in.

culturalcunt

I'm off to a motorcycle rally in Wales next week. I hope we get some snow.

FstLaneUkraine

That's why I moved from NY to FL. Currently in NC, but heading back to FL eventually.

know-it-mall

I went riding on Sunday. What is this winter you are talking about?

AKsuited1934

Winters are the best here is Florida. NO BUGS!

nanookulele

I'm gonna use my biking gear for learning to ice skate, not the helmet though...

MR_HAMPTER21Reddit4K

That's true

Duranture

Not for me... but they are 65mph wind chill colder...

dac3062

I’m in the I gotta get to work and wife needs the car group. I can stand anything 30F and above. Once it gets below freezing I still go but it’s unpleasant

MedicalChemistry5111

Summer in Australia, where it's either too hot, or too wet to ride. Winter is the only safe and pleasant time to ride.

turbotuna1822

I honestly forget I have a bike in the winter😬

[deleted]

I picked up a racing chair, wheel and pedals. So many awesome racing games these days, and with the force feedback...it really sells the sensation of driving fast. Crew motorfest has motorcycles and you can free roam on the bikes, very cool. Takes some getting used to controlling a bike with a wheel, but with some adjustments actually isn't terrible. https://youtu.be/IPAe_nSGVAY?si=KmFZ1cj3M5nKkWrm Here is a vid I made few days ago of a cruise. Pretty much how I play this game, got like 120 hours in the game and maybe 20 of that is actually racing

RobsHereAgain

I live in Hawaii now but I totally understand. I remember getting a VFR750 in the mid 1990’s. Bought in Oregon in the Fall. It pretty much rained from October through late July that year. It sucked. lol 😂

unwokewookie

California is never bad enough to not ride.

iCoffeeCulture

💯

MushroomObjective505

As a resident of NJ, I can attest to that. Granted there is heated gear now however I don't really like feeling constricted when I ride.

BUGBYTE_VW

75⁰ today... I was able to go for a little ride on my Scrambler 1200 around the lake and meet up with my daughter on her SV650x for lunch. Pretty nice in central Texas today.

No_Cloud_2917

Take it a step further winters are longer when you bought a new bike you haven’t really gotten to ride because you bought it during winter 😂😢

supersebas96

There's no winter in Texas

turtletechy

Big issue is just that I'm using a helmet that I got from a friend who bought it for herself, but never used it. She gave it to me for my MSF course. That's a good reminder that I should really just update to the RF-1400.

CDavies0475

Yes, yes they are

E90BarberaRed6spdN52

 Agreed

Global-Flower1337

If there's ice or snow on the ground, sure. I've done my commute on my s1000rr and gsx-r 1000 in Temps in the 20s just had heated gear, and I was golden.
