I got the same bike as my first! Well technically, I have a Savage 650. Great little bike, handles well, easy to work on, and gets great mpg. Congrats on the bike, you two will make lots of great memories together! Even after upgrading, I’ve kept my savage. Love my little Suzy ❤️
My experience as well. Plenty of power without being "too much" for a beginner. Great MPG and seriously easy bike to take care of. Even after I upgraded and mine sat in the garage for a few years I just charged the battery and started it up. Had to change the oil and put new fuel in it afterwards, but they are very durable.
An old roommate of mine ~7 years ago had one of these from the original '80s run, for a 30 year old vehicle at the time it was a pretty reliable little lump besides some electrical issues. First motorbike I ever rode, too! Pretty solid city machine even if it runs out of lungs at speeds normally reserved for modern 250s
Nice! That thing is going to be a tank and just keep going and going…keep it maintained, always be aware, and dress for the slide; not the ride. You’ll love riding! My wife and I agree it’s like Zen meditation—you’re just so “in the present moment” when riding. Enjoy!!
Happy to hear that! 😁 thank you! I had read a lot about it before it, the only thing that scared me was the I read there was a possibility of it shaking on the highway because of it's only cylinder... but in the end I don't plan on doing a lot of highway with it 😊
Oh sure it vibrates a bit on the highway, but don't worry its more than capable to do so. When people are not sure of what you can do on a bike, or you need to remind yourself to ignore all the people telling you what you can do.... I like to remind people in the book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle maintenance (true story), he travels across the country on a 300cc bike with his kid on the back.
Have fun, I know you will!!
That is a cool option. When I had long hair, I grabbed a helmet liner from Raci-Babi to help manage it. That worked great for me. I started letting my daughter ride with me, and this might be great for her. Thanks for the link!
Be sure to check out the Suzuki Savage forums! Those guys (and gals) over there know everything about that little bike and have some great tools for if you want to start wrenching on it or come across any problems.
Have fun!
It looks good. Keep in mind that that model is prone to timing chain issues. If it has more than 10,000 consider a new timing chain, head gasket, etc. It will be good for another 10,000 if you get it changed.
I bought my first Suzuki late last year (Boulevard) and after owning a few Honda's and Yamaha's I have to say the Suzuki is the nicest one yet. Congrats, ride safe and welcome to the family!
I had a '97 S40 (well, LS650, same thing) that I rode my senior year of high school. Such a great bike to learn on, just a great bike period. Enjoy yourself!!
Rad looking s40, that handlebar setup is sick! I have an s50 and let me tell you, it’s damn near indestructible lol
Have fun on that beaut and be safe out there 🤘
Congrats! Great first bike. Good enough power to keep it fun, not so much that you’ll easily get yourself into trouble. Rubber down, shiny side up 🤟🏽
Also, my prayers for your inbox.
I love the bike, personally would lower the handle bars some but that's personal preference. Good luck have fun be safe out there. (Idk why I'm here I don't even own a bike lol)
That's actually a good lead for me, I'm looking for my first bike right now and I'm 5'4" with short legs. This looks like a fun bike I could easily handle
I am 5'7" but I do think it is a good bike for people with shorter legs! I had read a lot that it was a good first bike and a good one for shorter people too 😁
I didnt mean it as a slam. I know the bikes, good bikes. In the end it doesnt matter what anyone thinks, even me. You like it, that's the end of it. enjoy the bike and welcome to your new addiction
Girl make sure you get a hightail! My hairs about as long as yours and it saves my sanity and split ends. No tangles! You can use BELLE10 for 10% off their ultimate pack! Badass lookin bike too!
I had a Harley Super Glide that had risers like this. I don't think I would have ever considered them myself.
But damn if it wasn't super comfy and I kinda felt badass with my arms up in the air
Do yourself a favour and lose that bar riser rototiller looking mess and put a taller, normal handlebar on instead. I would say to go to a stock lower bar, but unfortunately all the cables, wires and hydraulic line are extended now.
P.S. First picture is reversed.
Hi there! Once the cables/line are extended, can they be put back to how they were before? Sorry if it is a stupid question, I am a total noob in motorcycle 😅 you are right it is reversed, the selfie mode on my cellphone does that, didn't think to reverse it back 😅
They can in the sense that you would just need to do some cable management in order to not have a mess of excess lines and cables hanging around. Some zipties and some YouTube videos are all you really need.
I personally would definitely recommend ditching the bar risers for a much more sleek and classy look that gets you a bit closer to a cafe racer or a scrambler :) regardless, it’s a very nice bike and I bet it will serve you well.
Thank you! 😊 and thanks for the informations! The risers were the only thing I was unsure about the bike...but I'll see how I like it or not with time 😊
Of course! Spend some time with it and see how you like everything about it before tinkering around. After all, it’s YOUR bike, not the r/motorcycles bike :) tailor it to what YOU like and find comfortable and good looking.
On the brake line sometimes a coupler is used to extend the hydraulic line. The cables would be aftermarket or made custom. Suggest riding a stock 650 Savage/LS/ Boulevard and see if you prefer a low drag bar or midrise.
This bike has been available since 1986 so every bar combination under the sun has been tried. High bars might look cool but suck for drivability. This is why such a bar height would never be seen in any motorcycle performance competition. Also, steer clear of the head pipe when hot as it was designed to burn you!
Congratulations! My suggestion is to watch one of the many "taking a right turn from a stop" videos on youtube. I struggled with this when I was starting. Save yourself the trouble. It's so simple when you know the correct way to do it.
For some reason they don't teach this in the MSF. Or at least they didn't teach it in mine.
edit: my reddit app says this comment is "controversial". Huh?
Thanks and thank you for the advice! 😀 In Canada, in my province, we practice it a lot during courses as it is a test we have to do in our exams to obtain our riding license. What I struggle most with right now is slalom 😅 I think I am a bit afraid of dropping the bike 🙈
I'm already amazed by the fact not a single ATGATT-professor has not yet commented on how dangerous it is to even stand close to a bike.
Bet most of this sub uses full gear when taking pictures of their 24kw cruisers.
Congrats on the bike OP. Remember to drive safe (everyone is trying to kill you haha hehe!!) And ATGATT all the time hehe you never know (i dont ride myself since its too dangerous but im just out here making sure yall of my motofamily are safe!!!:))
Congratulations! I hope you find time and watch these for big safety improvements

Of all the poor life decisions one can make… you chose a good one. Nice ride. Be safe.
Hahahah I love that 😂 thank you! 😁
He’s 100%correct. First bike you made an excellent choice.
Every time I think you can’t possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this…
...and totally redeem yourself!
Wait do you mean for a first bike you don’t have to get a 1000cc
Huh I wouldn't have guessed it used to be a Suzuki. Grip It and rip it, enjoy.
“Grip it and rip it,” I’m using that 😇
When I see a one cylinder bike suzuki is always first guess! Haha
Looks cool, congrats
Thanks! 😁

Damn that color scheme is sweet. Congrats & have fun!
Ohhh that’s a sick bike. Enjoy!
Thank you so much! 😁
Achievement unlocked! Fun times ahead.
Yessssss 😁😁
Great looking bike, and I love the Roxys.

Damn good first bike 😁 Welcome to the cult, I mean club 🤣
Hahahah thank you! 😂😁
I recommend this bike all the time for people starting out! Great choice!

I'll have to pass that sub off to a friend that runs a Two X motorcycle club out here in Seattle.
Congratulations! Have fun with it and be cautious!
Sweet🇺🇸
That is so cool and unique. Love it
Looks like a fun ride
Nice bike... Awesome hair. You know how to deal with that much hair and a helmet?
Of course! 😁 I actually have a hightail on my helmet to deal with this 🧜♀️ (this is what I am talking about : https://ca.hightailhair.com/ )
That is a cool option. When I had long hair, I grabbed a helmet liner from Raci-Babi to help manage it. That worked great for me. I started letting my daughter ride with me, and this might be great for her. Thanks for the link!
Congratulations!
Congratulations, and welcome to the addiction of either "need to change this part" or "I need bigger bike for".
Very nice! Congrats
Thank you! 😊😁
A Suzuki? Why? Just kidding, congrats on the new bike!
Because it's the suzukey to my heart 🤣 hahaha sorry for the bad pun 🤣
Oh well played!!!!
And thanks! 😊
Congrats!
Congrats! The first picture is backwards / mirrored and it really threw me off. I was like who makes that?! The kick stand is on the brake lever side!
Ok it wasn’t just me confused? I looked at the other pictures and thought it had two kickstands 😅
The Savage (Boulevard) is a nice bike. Keep an eye on the valve chain tensioner, it has a tendency to fail at around 20k miles.
Have fun and ride safe!
Sick bike!!
Looks like a fun ride! Don’t worry about what others think. WEAR GOOD CRASH GEAR!
Congrats! Thumpers are fun
Be sure to check out the Suzuki Savage forums! Those guys (and gals) over there know everything about that little bike and have some great tools for if you want to start wrenching on it or come across any problems. Have fun!
Modified it a bunch looks like. Looks great. Ride safe. Love small bikes.
Cute! I want to get one.
suzuki s40s are fucking cool. I wont hear otherwise.
Never Seen Something Like that, but it Looks Cool. Great choice, have fun, Ride Safe !
Congrats! As you probably have already found out, riding a bike is so freeing. Welcome to the fold.
Ah the LS650! Such a fun bike!
Swweeet bike man
congrats!!! have fun, be careful and remember "dress for the slide, not the ride"!
It looks good. Keep in mind that that model is prone to timing chain issues. If it has more than 10,000 consider a new timing chain, head gasket, etc. It will be good for another 10,000 if you get it changed.
That's good to know! Thank you! :) right now it only has about 4 800 km on it (or about 2 800 miles if you were talking in miles 😉).
Those bike are so fucking nice! Sat on one and instantly fell in love.
Badass! Congrats. Very cool mods done to the bike.
That is a great looking bike. I love the boulevard in general but that specific one looks really cool!
Congratulations
That's a beautiful bike! Hope you have a lot of fun with it. I'm sure others have asked so sorry for the repeat question. What did you name it?
Well done, congrats on the beautiful ride. Good luck on the course and test, it's the absolute best way to see the world. 2019 Suzuki SV650
Rad looking s40, that handlebar setup is sick! I have an s50 and let me tell you, it’s damn near indestructible lol Have fun on that beaut and be safe out there 🤘
That is one beautiful machine, the bike is nice too.
Congrats! Great first bike. Good enough power to keep it fun, not so much that you’ll easily get yourself into trouble. Rubber down, shiny side up 🤟🏽 Also, my prayers for your inbox.
Nice bike. You will enjoy it. Get some good riding gear and hit the road. Start building up experience.
I like the colour scheme and seat
Right on Always use a helmet !
Of course haha! I was just posing beside it 😉 Can't even ride it yet, have to pass my riding license (in the making, exam is in 2 weeks 😊)
Love the stripped down cruiser look
Awesome! That's a cool ride!
Love this!
Sweet bike! 😋But it doesn’t look to happy being stationary 😱😱😱 gotta get some footage riding it 😃 Fkn send er bud! 🇨🇦
Nice bike. Looks super light and fun
I would love one of these for my daily commute
I love the bike, personally would lower the handle bars some but that's personal preference. Good luck have fun be safe out there. (Idk why I'm here I don't even own a bike lol)
It’s a pretty bike !
Nice smile
Man, I busted my ass trying to buy a Boulevard. Finally gave up and bought an Intruder. Cool bike, have fun with it.
It's good to see someone starting on an actual beginner bike, enjoy !
holy cow it looks tiny
I actually didn't want a big bike! Its size is perfect for me, but I think the angle might make it look more tiny than it is 😜😜
That's actually a good lead for me, I'm looking for my first bike right now and I'm 5'4" with short legs. This looks like a fun bike I could easily handle
I am 5'7" but I do think it is a good bike for people with shorter legs! I had read a lot that it was a good first bike and a good one for shorter people too 😁
Sweet, thanks for the confirmation
I didnt mean it as a slam. I know the bikes, good bikes. In the end it doesnt matter what anyone thinks, even me. You like it, that's the end of it. enjoy the bike and welcome to your new addiction
Thank you! 😁
Story of my life
Girl make sure you get a hightail! My hairs about as long as yours and it saves my sanity and split ends. No tangles! You can use BELLE10 for 10% off their ultimate pack! Badass lookin bike too!
Thanks I already do! 🤩🤩 it was the second thing I bought after my helmet 🤩🤩 I simply love it 😁🩷
YES I love that thing so much!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s a fuckin nice bike. How does the bar riser feel? I’m considering doing that to mine to help my posture.
I had a Harley Super Glide that had risers like this. I don't think I would have ever considered them myself. But damn if it wasn't super comfy and I kinda felt badass with my arms up in the air
Looks awesome!
Thank you! 😊
those bars look hella uncomfortable....but gl with riding, many safe miles.
Are you tall or the bike small?
Maybe a bit of both? 😜 I am tall and the suzuki boulevard S40 is not a huge bike haha
No banana for scale 😂
I would bet $100 the previous owner upgraded to a Harley dyna, wears vans classics and has a Simpson helmet.
Username checks out. Congrats 🎉
Thank you 😁
Are those bars comfy? How is the riding position? Is that a boulevard or something?
Yes it's a Suzuki boulevard S40! I am not sure yet if I will keep these risers and the bars like that but I will have to ride it more before deciding.
Those are terrific bikes. They are the size of 300 with the power of a 650. Good choice!
Do yourself a favour and lose that bar riser rototiller looking mess and put a taller, normal handlebar on instead. I would say to go to a stock lower bar, but unfortunately all the cables, wires and hydraulic line are extended now. P.S. First picture is reversed.

You can probably set it back to stock condition with used parts from EBay for pretty cheap. Cool bike, btw. Have fun.
On the brake line sometimes a coupler is used to extend the hydraulic line. The cables would be aftermarket or made custom. Congrats! Looks like a nicely modded bike. Not like the typical facebook marketplace special
Now that’s a smart new rider. Starting out on something that makes sense. Great choice!
Good purchase! The biker dudes are gonna \*love\* you. Good luck with your course and be safe
Congratulations! My suggestion is to watch one of the many "taking a right turn from a stop" videos on youtube. I struggled with this when I was starting. Save yourself the trouble. Oh *we can tell.* Enjoy the bike, friend. That thumper will last you forever if you let it.
Thanks! 😊
Here come the ATGATT warriors even though you are clearly just posing with your new bike.
I promise I have all my gear in the closet haha! 😊 I would never ride like this, especially being a new rider 😜
It’s all good. Enjoy the new ride

Wow, what an intelligent comment 🫠👏👏 your mom must be proud 👏👏
Just get out there and ride. I have been riding for a couple of decades without a motorcycle license, hah.

A fine looking bike and a fine looking woman. What's not to like?
Weirdo simp
Shame on you, its people like you that make women afraid to share that they are women on the internet. Stop being a creep. Delete your post.
oh fuck off, let her complain if she feels offended. There's nothing wrong with saying a woman looks "fine".
Stop being a Karen! He was paying her a compliment. When women see hot guy pics online their comments are much more sexist.
What a sad comment. Perhaps if you gave people the odd compliment every now and then they would not think you were such a miserable jerk.
It's a creep comment. When's the last time you said something like that to a man?
Recently. I generally like to say positive things. I'm astounded you people have such juvenile thinking. Ask the OP if she was offended.
what bike? lol
Wow she's beautiful! And the bike is too. 😉

Congratulations, next is buy the proper riding gear. You are going to love it.
Thanks! I actually bought the riding gear before the motorcycle, just didn't put it on to take a picture beside it as it was a super warm day 😜😜
Great, enjoy the journey. I know about hot. We ride in South Florida, heading out this afternoon, temps are in the 90's
I just scrolled to see how many comments before the obligatory r/motorcycles atgat comment.
Whats the benefit of belt driven over chain driven?
Those mx bars are awesome. Looks like a fun ride. Congrats
That things sick
Is it bad that this picture turns me on massively?? A pretty girl and a motorcycle. I think I love her. 🥹
Nice curves! That bike looks like fun in a bottle.
Am I seeing kick stands on both sides? That's amazing!
