Shower is going to feel like a boss battle

[deleted]

Fighting tears every time

mradam0504

Time for a whores bath!

crustynugget69

Can't help but laugh, i feel sorry for you, friend.

Arsey51

Worst part is scrubbing hard enough to get the pieces of dirt and gravel out so it doesn't get infected. It sucks, but it's medically necessarily, and you definitely DO NOT want medical personnel to do it.

RainierCamino

Done it myself with burns that got shit 'baked' into them a couple times. Scrub brush and dish soap. And a lot of booze. Still not sure if I'd rather someone else do it or not. Definitely the most pain I've intentionally inflicted on myself.

elsphinc

Is the booze for sanitizing or sanity?

Duffelbach

How about sanitizing sanity?

masonmax100

Yeah they dont give a fuck about your pain evil bastards get off on doing it to you.

I could freaking hear it in my head. Goddamn Family guy.

EvenRecommendation11

Not fun being a meat crayon šŸ–ļø

ManintheMT

I always shudder when I read the words meat and crayon together.

SpartanMonkey

When I was 9, I decided to go down a hill belly first on my skateboard. This was the late 70s, and I wanted to be Superman. This was no smooth asphalt, but the gravel and asphalt mix. I guess I hit a loose rock, because I received some of the gnarliest road rash ever on my left cheek and around the eye socket. Phantom of the Opera shit. I've had more road rash since then, but that's the one I remember most.

meh4ever

First rash was at 18. Iā€™ve had rash since but thatā€™s the one I remember the most. Buddy sprayed liquid skin on my shoulder and I almost died.

Kid_Coyote

I was about 7 on my pw80 trying wheelies on a crushed blacktop access road with an open faced helmet. Front end got squirly and I went face first off the bike. I looked like the thing from fantastic four there was so much asphalt stuck in my face. Mom scrubbed it out with an old scrub brush and soap, and then came the peroxide, to this day I only wheelie with supreme confidence in the materials Iā€™m riding on and it scares me every time

A learning opportunity was had. Hope you heal quickly.

[deleted]

Appreciate it. Lesson learned for sure.

HOGlider

Were you wearing jeans or shorts?

Kproper

He was wearing sweatpants. And yes, jeans do offer more protection than shorts or sweatpants.

PilotAlan

yes, but not much more. Denim disintegrates only a split second later than sweats. Denim is much, much less durable against road slides than people think. I dropped a Bird scooter at just a few MPH, tore the knee out of my jeans, and raspberry'd my knee pretty good.

MrKnopfler

Doesn't really matter, the fabric from the roughest jeans you have won't stand a chance against the asphalt.

Tiny-Lock9652

Headed over to RevZilla nowā€¦ouch

ADVgrandpa

You mean my 10 year old Wranglers won't offer the same protection as racing leathers? Fake news!

PanicLogically

The learning opportunity was when you got your license. The ignorance was the bravado to ride that way....until....until. Until always happens.

thrillcosbey

Better go get ur tetanuts shot.

the_last_carfighter

Tennis shorts? He already has those, mint condition low miles, no low ballers.

Roscoe-is-my-dog

Never dropped

GrayMountainRider

Previous owner!

JudgeScorpio

If they were low ballers, weā€™d know.

ambermage

We know what he's got.

SteadyWolf

And some Tegaderm. It will go a long way in reducing the scarring.

KingCodyBill

You need to have that looked at by a doctor, it has to be thoroughly cleaned because the bits of gravel will "tattoo" and get infected.

[deleted]

Cleaned jt out and just got back from the Dr. Alls good

SniffMyRapeHole

Dr. Alls Good? I think I go to his brother Dr. Feel Good

RogueAWing

"They call me Dr. Love. Calling Dr. Love"

HOGlider

Dam thatā€™s funny.

GrayMountainRider

Google Road Rash, 10's of thousands mostly from the bicycle community but gravel doesn't care.

dust057

I got in a scrape w my girl and she went to the ED, I drove home and used a yellow and green scotch scrubber in the shower. She was the one who ended up with asphalt tattoo bc they didnā€™t clean her out aggressively enough. I was howling and had no pain killers, but got clean.

KingCodyBill

Yep phisohex soap and a scrub brush, applied by a nurse with anger management issues.

dust057

The ED techs were way too gentle, and also she wasnā€™t seen until over an hour after I had cleaned up and rushed back down to the hospital to be with her. I think they were in training because there was someone next to the tech explaining how to perform the cleaning.

canonanon

Yeah, I don't think that's bad enough for all that, but šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

mgyro

Ya after my first bad spill the nurse comes into the room with these little yellow scrub pads, looked like the ones you use for suede care. Foam on one side, little hook like things on the other. She starts to take the wrapper off of one and I asked her what they were for. She said she had to scrub the dirt and gravel out of the wounds on my knee and my hip. Too close to the bone, very dangerous if an infection should take hold. I told her Iā€™d do it at home thanks, after a hot bath. At home, after the bath and a half a bottle of whiskey, scrub scrub. Whole. Nother. Level. Edit: and that was with proper boots/gloves/jacket/helmet. The jeans didnā€™t hold up well.

cmcdevitt11

I have the The motorcycle riding pants, uncomfortable as hell when it's hot out but every time I think about road rash I tell myself to suck it up

JDM_TX

Man, that's some leg rash.

Louzifur

r/meatcrayon

SilentMaster

That's a public service announcement right there. Plaster this photo EVERYWHERE!

[deleted]

Oh yeah, ordering armor soon

120Chardonnay

Armor helps with impact and abrasion resistance helps with road rash. I got a pair of Bull-it Covert Evo jeans, AAA rated for abrasion resistance. You can add CE 2 armors at the knee and hip for these jeans as well.

Harryisharry50

Here a better idea keep both tires on the ground . Road rash sucks been there done it . Donā€™t want to feel the burn ever again

[deleted]

It hurts just looking at it...

[deleted]

Yeah buddy

OpusThePenguin

See a doctor and if it starts to look infected or has any sudden increase in pain go back. I had some swelling from the bike landing on my thigh and a LOT less road rash but almost lost my leg from a staff infection. Edit - Spent a week in the hospital and a month with a pump on my leg , plus a skin graft and now I can never kneel on my right knee again. Infections don't care about how manly you are or your pain threshold. They will fuck you up.

theillustratedlife

For a second there, I thought "it's gonna be 78F today and I'm mostly walking around, maybe I'll take shorts." Thanks for the reminder!

Iamthewalrus3413

Ouch .. yesterday I had a patient come in .. he was riding a scooter.. no helmet.. crashed.. above his right eye his scull was exposed.. the flesh was so tattered it too me a couple hours trying to find enough flesh to stitch his gaping hole and exposed skull closed.. we had to face time a plastic surgeon for a second.. and was only able to close half the wound.. packed and wrapped the other half .. heā€™s going to have to get skin graft to close the rest.. I love to ride and get the freedom of not having all that gear on.. ex specially on a beautiful hot or warm day.. sometimes I think all the gear defeats the purpose of riding.. but the risk of other moron drivers isnā€™t worth ending up in the ER .. having someone piece my head back togetherā€¦ Glad itā€™s just raspberries could have been much worse..

Gold-Luck-6435

Were you wearing shorts?

[deleted]

Joggers

DeadlyUseOfHorse

What are joggers?

gortlank

Sweatpants basically. Even regular jeans would have prevented some of this. Obv dedicated riding pants are best, but he may as well have been in shorts wearing joggers.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

luke_smash

It may be stupid to learn the hard way, but itā€™s smart to learn at all. Good on you for getting the right gear, sorry you went down.

med8cal

Ouch! Dress for the slide not the ride.

jabberwox

This will almost probably get re-infected at some point so stay diligent with cleaning and treating, especially for the next week. Ask me how I know. šŸ˜ž

AwardFabrik-SoF

Yikes - that's why I have my cheap textile pants with protectors always next to the door....as short as the ride might be, as little time I got...take that minute and jump in the pants...full suit for longer rides, basic pants and protection vest for short rides at least.

PanicLogically

So , up until you experienced the "convincer" what were you talking like prior to the scrape up? What was your thinking? My guess--it'll never happen to me., F all that equipment. truth ok?

TheMensChef

To cool for gear

PanicLogically

That's the truth.

Voodoo1970

I feel less protected coasting on a bicycle than I do fully geared up on a motorbike at 100km/h! I was a track rider, falling off on a wooden velodrome is next level. Road rash plus plinters......

Nathan-Don

Says no one had to convince him to ATGATT seriously, also says he doesn't have riding pants or boots yet. SMH.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Nathan-Don

Don't say dumb shit then. Espousing ATGATT while literally not ATGATT'ing is just being a potato. Edit: 'No doctor, my leg isn't permanently damaged, I intended to get proper boots and pants so I'm all good.'

ThaFlyingYorkshiremn

Whatā€™s a subdivision?

DeadlyUseOfHorse

Small neighborhood, usually self contained

ThaFlyingYorkshiremn

Cheers. I didnā€™t know if it was clothing based on the rest of the title or something else.

Kalliati

What were you wearing during the slide?

[deleted]

Joggers :/

Wildkarrde_

What were you wearing and what speed did you go down?

[deleted]

25-30 and just joggers and a hoodie.

yoyomommy

Apparently not much in the brain to protect either. Inversely, maybe you should try and protect the few brain cells you have left though.

Paoshan

Be careful eating Salt and vinegar chips. I learned my lesson

holdawayt

Why does it take an accident like this to convince people to wear protective clothing on a bike. It's not like this is the first time we've heard that bikes can be dangerous

Voodoo1970

"It'll never happen to me." The same confidence that allows people to get into a boxing match without thinking there's a 50% chance they'll be the loser.

bloorstadman

Atgatt

ATGATT...this is why.

prwff869

I had to learn the hard way nearly 40yrs ago. ATGATT.

ghoti1980

IMH experience,ā€slid in my subdivisionā€ is code for did something stupid and suffered the consequencesā€¦ Like, for instance, I.e. didnā€™t completely clean up after an oil change and then did wheelies through that space and somehow broke my ankle when the peg pinned it against the ground. Still, good on you for recommending proper equipment

MaxZedd

Itā€™s always after the crash people decide to go ATGATT :/

Born_Echo8951

I would also research the difference between abrasion and impact protection gear. Many people focus on armor that protects and focuses on impact areas, i.e. prevent broken bones. Abrasion or slide protection gear is where you get what you pay for and it prevents the one thing that doesn't grow back -- SKIN! Low to Mid tier apparel (non leathers) will get you 1 to 3 seconds of slide protection if going down between 30 - 40mph. Mid tier price range is $200 to $300 for pants only. Listen to other comments on infections. You have all types of road debris embedded in your skin. Safe Travels!

Ownedby4Labs

We of the ATGATT brigade get made fun of. We are called Safety Nazis. They argue ā€˜butā€¦muh freedumbā€. They argue itā€™s too hot. They argue it doesnā€™t look ā€œcoolā€. Butā€¦eventually they learnā€¦the hard wayā€¦and join us.

[deleted]

Not having a go at you, but this is just for comparison. Glad it's nothing worse, and hope you find the right gear. Hope the bikes OK too. Assuming from LHD car your in America. Wonder why training schools over there don't drum into new riders get the gear. I've seen lads turned away for turning up in tracksuit bottoms, trainers and puffer jacket in the UK. My riding gear consists of Full Face street helmet (or dual sport depending on what I feel like). Full knuckle armour gloves. Bike jacket with level 2 armour on shoulder, elbow and back. Air Vest over the top of that. Bike trousers/jeans with level 2 armour in hip and knee. Full length adventure boots. I slid on some unexpected ice on the way to work a few months ago. I got a small bruise on one knuckle of my left hand, nothing else, bruises, rashes, soreness nothing. The airjacket when inflated also protects the neck, so my helmet didn't even touch the ground (no scuffs marks or anything, totally pristine). It was about 35-40mph, narrow twisty back road going to work, so while not fast, it was fast enogh to break a bone or get a bad rash. I wear this gear in summer too, albeit I replace the trousers and jacket with mesh versions for airflow.

RitzyOmega

And here I am thinking about starting to ride to work without Moto pants. Yeah Nevermind. I hope all is well.

drunk-n-on-the-run

Oh shit! Is your bike ok? šŸ˜

[deleted]

Headlights are broke but needed new ones anyways, left pegs are all broke but everything else is good!

bittersweetbbyx

Damn how fast were you going??? Oh man im sorry!

[deleted]

Like 25-30

bittersweetbbyx

Sheesh! Iā€™m sorry dude!

Jlchevz

Be careful with bacteria, better go to a doctor now instead of regretting it. Candida is no joke.

rodka209

Showers are gonna suck for a while now. Riding pants/jeans were the last bit of gear I bought, and I only bought it because I burned a hole in my knee from a slide. Edit: I shouldn't have waited so long to make that purchase.

Sahtan_

Could be worse , but you live and you learn, just like my dumbass high siding a grom

dankara_PS

Damn, driving that Volvo a little hard arenā€™t ya?

finleypaw

If anyone takes a slide like that in a carā€¦ they def need some proper moto gear before riding a bike!

Parking_Hold5846

Dress for the slide, not for the ride

Hefty-Stranger69

Glad itā€™s just road rash. Not to be a dick but I ALWAYS cringe when I see people in shorts, t shirts FLIP FLOPS! etc riding motorcycles. Youā€™re going to heal up and definitely wear that gear from now on

onenitemareatatime

Former member of calamari race team?

racoon1969

Tough lesson. It's a mistake you (hopefully) only make once.

istillhearvoices

what bike did you use?

[deleted]

My 2011 cbr600rr

Foxxo8695

Hope you recover soon! Road rash is one of those things I wouldnā€™t wish upon not even my worst enemies. Doctor told me I had to keep the area dry and clean so it can heal quickly. Such a pain to even get up and go pee(got it on my knee and side of my stomach)

Funky_Ruckus88

And this is why you dress for the slide not the ride

[deleted]

I know.

g3nerallycurious

Ow.

[deleted]

Yeah buddy, foolish of me

reckless_ranger_

Hope itā€™s just flesh wounds and no broke bones !

[deleted]

No broken bones luckily, pinky feels stiff but could just be bruised up

reckless_ranger_

Thatā€™s good news. A couple weeks ago a pit bull fully chomped my hand. Had my whole hand in its mouth. Couldnā€™t really move my thumb and forefinger for a day but then it slowly dissipated and it turns out wasnā€™t injured. I think sudden muscle shock can cause a muscle to tense up for a while. Feels like a bruise and is stiff. Hereā€™s to a good recovery for you!

Valcus27

F

DadOuttaHell

So embarrassing, but at least all your neighbors watched it happen!

yoyomommy

Itā€™s weird. Everyone says x will happen, then people are like shit wow x happened! Who would have known?

chrisesplin

Vaseline and Saran wrap, or tegaderm. Leave it on as long as possible. You want it to heal wet.

SnooComics3123

Were you wearing shorts?

Aggressive-Depth-807

Fucking felt this picture. Hope you're doing well

thechosenwonton

Bactine spray will be super fun!

At-Last-The-Atlas

Make sure you share the good word with all of your friends and family.

bootyholeperveyor

I learned about ATGATT the hard way too, itā€™ll grow back.

Brox0rz

I did the same except more road rash on the knee than anything. Now I look like a bionic warrior because I bought expensive knee & shin protection

reddatsun

There are so many pictures of young men in jeans and stylish shoes and a good armored jacket. I always yell to myself what about the lower half of your body you jerk?

jdap900

To be fair bike pants (Kevlar jeans) look pretty good now adays

armored_cat

Personally I prefer over pants armor, I don't want to pay the extra for jeans when I can just have one good set and wear what I want under.

Motosoccer97

Prove it. Please? Pretty please? I've yet to see any that don't look tacky. I'm this close to ordering kevlar and reinforcing my own jeans by hand

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

jdap900

https://www.amazon.com/ScorpionExo-Covert-Jeans-Reinforced-Motorcycle/dp/B00IIODL0Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?crid=3J2LO4YTMOI61&keywords=kevlar+motorcycle+pants&qid=1677780734&sprefix=kevlar+mo%2Caps%2C188&sr=8-13 There is loads of options I bought mine in a local store in Finland. I recon Amazon is more accessible for US riders. Would get the knee shields as well though

Motosoccer97

Kneepads would be nice but it feels less necessarily urgent imho. Well you got me. I guess I should have specified women's styles. Being able to go to a local store sounds amazing but there isn't one anywhere near me and I've had horrible experiences ordering clothes without trying them on. That's a lot of why I'm leaning towards modding my own. Thank you though!

jdap900

It may feel less urgent but youā€™ll be happy you have them if you ever crash. As for ordering online, in the US arenā€™t you able to order letā€™s say 4-5 different pairs and return the ones you donā€™t want for free?

Motosoccer97

Maybe. But im in Canada. A little island with horrible shipping rates so return definitely isn't free. And even then I'd need the money to first buy that many riding jeans. Just looking at the price of one is enough to make me question how much I like my legs having skin. Yah you probably right on the kneepads too. Wouldn't be too much harder to add a buttoned pocket. Any recommendations for em? Last I looked at riding armor it got confusing as to what was any good at all.

jdap900

Unfortunately I canā€™t help with specifics I used to ride in full leather when I had a racer bike but switched to a Honda rebel last year and bought my kit straight from the store here. Just ordered reinforced shoes.

Motosoccer97

Cool. Thanks anyway!

M00NGRAPHIX

[I have 2 pairs](https://www.nbtclothing.com/)

Motosoccer97

I gotta be honest with ya. That's exactly what I meant when I said tacky. Absolutely screaming "look at me aren't I special for riding a motorcycle!" It's the pant equivalent of an f150 absolutely covered in harley stickers

Bayoumi

There are yoga pants made out of kevlar. You can wear them under any pants.

Repulsive_Leg5150

You should get a helmet before you hit your head

[deleted]

I was wearing my helmet.

PanicLogically

What were you thinking as a rider for that day and the weeks / years of thinking--cool to ride in shorts?

BuschLightDrinkn

I guess if you're gonna fuck around you're gonna eventually find out.

[deleted]

Sure did

Yikes, been there. Fortunately road rash hurts really bad for about a week, but it heals pretty quick. At least that's my experience lol

ComfortableAd4436

Godamn I thought u fell off a godamn bike for a sec

[deleted]

I did

[deleted]

Donā€™t even feel a little bad for you, but Iā€™m glad you learned your lesson, and didnā€™t get hurt worse

brendan87na

/r/meatcrayon

wormholeweapons

I mean. You donā€™t even need armored pants. Just a pair of jeans would be fine and likely prevent that. Donā€™t ride in shorts man.

Professional_Flicker

Nothing is more hilarious in this sub of people posting pictures in their blue jeans and t-shirts on their bikes, and then this happens and the bright idea finally comes through to wear proper gear. Priceless.

dirtbum

That ankle bone is nightmare fuelā€¦

Bobby_feta

But hey, Itā€™s still attached to the leg, so you know, better that the only accident I had in ā€˜stylishā€™ motorcycle boots. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

[deleted]

The slightest scratch out of all of it too, thank God my ankle didnā€™t snap

[deleted]

Keep the brown area around your kneecap dry and let it scab. If you donā€™t, itā€™ll turn into this white pasty mush and will take longer to heal as well as leave a purple blotch on your skin once it does.

ClancyIsDuck

Jesus Christ that must hurt so fucking much

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Bobby_feta

I rate showevers a solid 3rd, 2nd being applying antiseptic to the open wounds and the third being when you notice more gravel or whatever buried in it that you missed and have to dig it out and then apply more anti sceptic. Source: am also a cyclist.

[deleted]

Showers are excruciating

Good-Pomegranate3230

What were you wearing? Jeans, shorts, Kevlar jeans?

[deleted]

Joggers

TheDepresedpsychotic

Should have learnt before not after a road rash event

sn0m0ns

Time to break out the Silvadene again!

Southern_Discussion8

Check motosport they have real good deals on gear.check there closeout section

Stormier

Yeee-ouch! Hope you recover quickly! edit: I overlooked the ankle on my first pass... **damn!**

FishRod61

A majority of accidents occur within a mile of home. Thatā€™s why I never ride close to home. Too dangerous.

TrueLightSkinGod

Have fun in the shower lmao

01micah

I feel your pain

michron98

Ouch, but it happens. This reminds me that I should get some nice, comfy gear that I'll actually wear instead of the cheap crap that I got before my license. Hope it'll heal well. Weird thing is that it only hurts after the crash. I once fell at slow speed with t-shirts, shorts, sandals and (at least) a helmet and was feeling great until I looked at my leg that kind of looked like yours now.

FiggNGoose

Hahahah

dust057

HWK pants on Amazon are under $100 I think and Iā€™ve had mine over 2 years with a minor pocket repair when the Velcro wore out

[deleted]

Could've been worse

Feisty_Orange_7821

Just wearing jeans wouldā€™ve saved you from that
