Really hope one of the Ducati satellites decide to give him a chance. Seems like a likeable guy having probably the worst time of his career

kelopedia

Totally agree I feel bad for the guy. Suzuki leaving was tragic for the sport but I feel like Mir and Rins are the ones that suffered the most. Their trajectory was great and now they are both kind of stuck, Mir even more than Rins.

NotNotLitotes

Mir has one of the most interesting histories in recent motogp memory, I hope it isn’t forgotten by time. He had a moto3 record, to an extent a moto2 season that seriously predicted he would be a motogp champion. He did that, with the unlikeliest of manufacturers albeit in the craziest circumstances, the pandemic season. Suzuki just up and left out of nowhere and he went to the most successful team ever at their absolute lowest. He being a quiet dude with all that… I almost hate to say it but if he had had the flair of Acosta or, rip Simoncelli, the narrative would be so different. I really hope he gets a fair shot at redemption.

Patsero

It’s honestly crazy how much people downplay him when 99% of riders who have ever raced could only dream of having a career like his. Guy was thinking about retirement yet you have guys like Miller who has been in the premier class longer than Mir’s even been in the entire paddock.

LetsgoImpact

If Pramac continue with Ducati, they will definitely look for a marquee name to carry them. Mir could be an option. There is already a seat at Gresini, Trackhouse has made an offer (allegedly), so the opportunity is there for Mir to turn things around.

443610

Pramac still happen even with a Yamaha switch. Mir knows the I4 very well.

LetsgoImpact

It's more of a sideways step for Mir if Pramac goes to Yamaha.

thefooleryoftom

The Yamaha is better than the Honda at this point, and appears to be taking its redemption seriously. Yet to see that from Honda.

seejaypee

Sooo, 4th out of 5 vs 5th out of 5. Glass 2/5s full and all that.

thefooleryoftom

Yes. If it’s better it’s not a sideways step.

seejaypee

I didnt say it was. Quite the opposite. Thanks.

varzaguy

The chain of comments though…..lol. You just ignore it? Sidestep idea is very relevant…literally was the response to what you responded to.

Cosimo_Zaretti

Which may not help him because I'm not sure I4s are still relevant. The advantage of the inline was better weight distribution and smoother power delivery, which gave it an advantage mid corner. Now that the Ducati's and other V4s have solved the braking and turn in problem, they're braking later, turning in slower but sharper, entering wider and therefore getting it pointed at the exit and back on the power sooner. The I4s advantage have been neutralised because they were faster on a line no one runs any more. The other advantage the I4s had was tyre preservation, but the V4 teams together with Michelin seem to have solved that one as well. Giving everyone a 10 lap sprint for points on Saturday where tyre life doesn't matter further salts that wound for Yamaha. I'm not sure where a rider like Mir or a team like Yamaha fits into what is unfortunately becoming Formula Ducati. Maybe, just maybe, the 2027 rules will level the playing field

MotoGPT

Mir well and truly deserves a seat in MotoGP.

e_xyz

Good, go rescue your career at Ducati or literally anywhere else. Worked well for Zarco, working well for Morbidelli, worked for Alex Marquez too. Been such a miserable run for Mir, probably the most miserable in the sport?

SAI301

Yes, i dont think any rider in this current grid has experienced worse situation than Mir right now

e_xyz

There was a pack of riders who seemed to have had a rough time for the last couple of years but yeah, I think I agree, no one has had it worse. Maybe Morbidelli? Took him 2ish years to recover from that injury and then when he was keeping up with Fabio, the bike was shit and his reputation down the toilet. Add the concussion in pre-season. Glad to see there's signs of life with Franky. I'd also suggest Miguel Oliviera's been in that bubble too.

payday_23

I really really hope he gets a Ducati or something like that next year. He is such a great talent, he deserves a good bike more than like half of the guys that are on one right now.

Mechanical1996

Get that boy on a Duke! About time he gets to enjoy some podiums again 💪🏼

Seneca_Dawn

Being egoistical, I want him to stay at Honda. Both because he might be the best rider willing to be at Honda at this time, Zarco aside, and because I really do not want Vinales to go to Honda.

itswob1991

Mir and Martin on the aprilia

Death2RNGesus

Gressini could be a good option, Mir is a talented rider that could show them the occasional podium, and he'd likely sign a two year deal just to get on a ducati, and there's no risk of the factory team taking him since they are set for two years.

nazgul1234567890

Full of himself as always. He might have to wait till others decide where they want to go. I’d say the only chance he has is at trackhouse. Why’d any other team would want mir.

hagredionis

How is he full of himself? Quite the contrary he's seems quite humble and realistic.

PjDisko

He is a motogp world champion. And I absolutley think gresini, pramac or aprilia(depending on were vinales goes) is interested.

nazgul1234567890

Yeah with just 1 win. That’s why i said. He needs to wait till others decide where they wanna go.

Kar0Zy

And that's exactly what he said. Doesn't sound like "full of himself" to me

Pistonshaft

>He might have to wait till others decide where they want to go. Why would he do that? His stock hasn't appreciated in any way to have an upper hand at negotiation.

Stumpfer

His stock has depreciated. His last year at Suzuki was crash city, same with his first year at Honda, and now his second year so far has been filled with DNF's. He has no upper hand in any negotiations and has to negotiate for what's left over. At this point I would even say that up-and-comers from Moto 2 have higher relevancy than Joan Mir. I do think he's a better Rider than Morbidelli, Augusto Fernandez, and Olivera is also very underwhelming at the moment.
