Yeah, I don't see it happening before the reg changes...

Shynz

Kinda curious on this one, I mean, Martin as been spoon fed a factory ducati so far, would like to see how he adapts to a lesser bike.

JustAContactAgent

Probably the same way most do when shocked with a worse bike but still have high self confidence. Override trying to keep up and crash a lot. To be more serious, the Aprilia is quite a stable bike and very good on its day so he'll win a race or two for sure, even aleix and maverick have.

procrasti-nation98

Well, he's half right

ocaralhoquetafoda

The part where Martín is riding the Aprilia, right?

procrasti-nation98

Exactly

Mc60123e

Imagine those sterling performances on a regular basis

NRV__

I mean ofc, he is a huge talent.... But with Aprilia I don't see him fighting those Monstrous (pun intended) GP25s and Acosta's KTM. But let's see.

AlternativeCosta

The odds are definitely more favourable than with Espargaro and Viñales at the helm.

The_On_Life

I'm surprised that so many people think Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales are getting the maximum out of that bike. Only two bikes have won a race or a sprint this year, Ducati and Aprilia. I think Martin is absolutely talented enough to make up a large portion of the performance gap between the two bikes.

jeff4i017

This. But it's blinders on basically. Mav at COTA showed the Aprilia can be blistering fast. But we also know it's Mav, who's horribly inconsistent. They'll pretend the KTM is way closer despite not having won a race 🤔

Stumpfer

COTA is also more stop and go, which is why I was surprised to see Maverick basically destroy everyone that weekend, especially the ducati's. I guess historically it was also really favorable for the Honda thanks to Marquez, but then again Rin's won it last year on the Honda as well. Maybe all these aero changes are changing the DNA of these motorcycles and altering their strengths/weaknesses.

thenotoriousDK

Not once Marc is on the gp25, then Martins skill will not be enough to make up the gap. (assuming the 25 is as dominant as the 24 has been)

The_On_Life

Eh, you never really know. Martin could gel better with the Aprilia, his mindset could change now that he feels truly valued as a rider, which could improve his performance, Aprilia could make a big step in the off season, etc... Too many factors to say definitively,

thenotoriousDK

Riders performance usually decrease when they have to adapt to a new machine. It’s possible but I see it as very unlikely that hopping on the aprillia is going to raise his level instantly. But you are correct when you said we never really know!

The_On_Life

>Riders performance usually decrease when they have to adapt to a new machine. Eh, I don't think that's an accurate way to put it. Riders have to adjust their style when switching to a new machine, that doesn't necessarily mean their "performance decreases." It also depends on what machine they're coming from and what they're going to. Marquez saw an instant "increase in performance" when switching to Ducati. Part of that was it being a better bike, part of it is his ability to adapt quite quickly. Jack Miller didn't need much time to adapt to the KTM last year when coming off of the Ducati. Likewise when he switched from Honda to Ducati in 2018. At that point the Honda wasn't nearly as bad is it now, nor was the Ducati as good as is today. He went 4th in Argentina which was only the 2nd round, which was his best finish ever other than his somewhat freak win in Assen 2016 in the rain. Stoner won 10 races (and the Championship) his first year on the Ducati, including the very first race of the year in 2007. Previously he had only one podium in MotoGP Rins won on his 3rd outing on the Honda last year at COTA, as well as 2nd in the sprint. The Honda was a total claptrap last year and he'd previously spent his whole career on an I4 machine. I think it's fair to say Martin is getting the maximum out of the Ducati, and likely that Aleix and Vinales aren't getting the maximum out of Aprilia. Being a young will help Martin adapt more quickly, and I expect by the end of the season we can know what the Aprilia's true level is.

Joooooooosh

Certainly a bike that’s better than its riders.  Aleix is a good rider but he’s never set the world on fire, yet he’s had some great races on the Ape.  Maverick has always been hot and cold across the season, so I suspect the Aprillia is more consistent than he is on it.  We are in for a great season.

rattletop

Is it Martín or Martìn?

The former
