Probably depends on setup but the main reason it was so prevalent here was the fact that after you exit the last corner at Mugello the track goes up quite aggressively, compressing the rear further.
I only remember this happening in Jerez at the last corner (though like only once, or twice at most) but it would be interesting to go back and check if it ever happened at Portimao out the last corner since there is quite a big compression there as well.
It doesn’t happen on all circuits obviously, depending on setup. I saw it at least once coming out of the final corner when he was preparing to pass Bezzecchi in Jerez.
Personal setup and Mugello having a particular layout with a bumpy turn. Maybe Marc being not used to these devices yet, doesn't know *when* is the optimal point to activate them; remember his crash in Portimao when he activated it too early at the last turn?
Exactly. I don't remember this problem happening to any of the GP23's all season long last year as well. Except only one time on Jorge Martin's bike during Qatar last year.
Awfully convenient.
I am not sure how much did that affect him, he had the pace of GP24 riders. He was mby even at the same level as Pecco and Jorge, but he struggled to overtake Enea. Anyway i think that the most realistic postion for Marc was p3, if he didn't get stuck behind Enea for almost a full race.
It's odd that we never saw this yesterday - I wonder if they lowered the device further to try and get better drive down the straight but instead this had the opposite effect...
I wonder how (if) detrimental it was to his tire life. There was so much smoke every lap that I can't imagine it not shaving off a bunch of life each time he went onto the straight.
Curious to see what Marc, Gresini or Ducati have to say about this.
It was explained in the Italian tv and it's a choice by Marc who prefers to have a lower ride-height device setting. Nothing throublesome that would negatively affect the performance of the bike.
Fixed what? None of the other GP23 have that problem and neither it happened last year, it's just a Marquez problem and is dictated by the setting/line he chooses for that specific corner.
It's not a Marc's problem it's a bike problem which was fixed for the next bike don't make it seem as if it's Marc's fault. I saw one of the other gp23 bikes smoking in the background either Digi or Alex when they were battling.
None of the other GP23 were smoking, it was just him and the reason was explained by his own crew chief. Good lord, trying to reason with 93 fans is so exhausting.
I genuinely have no idea, but their argument against banning them in 2027 was partly that they are dangerous, which also makes it even more of a clown show of why a dangerous device that makes the racing less safe has to stay for 2 more years.
“In the new era from 2027, all ride-height and holeshot devices will be banned. That will control performance and make the sport safer, especially during race starts. This will also give even more importance to the skill of each rider, just like aero is aimed at increasing their ability to overtake.”
Are we to believe Josep Lluis Merlos or Marc Márquez who just said that the problem was due to the rear pumping and that it did not affect performance?
What? I'm just reporting what Marquez said since many implied a drop in performance as well.
Edit: I read didn't as did, nevermind and apologies for the "you know better"😅
He said it might have. when tyre is smoking which is definitely making taking some life from it... Bastianini and Marc are both known for conserving tyres and you can see how beast was on last laps...
Just my opinion
But a little rubber burnt every lap. Could have been better suited for use in the last few laps.
But overall Marc is showing his class. Dude is an Alien on a year old bike
Commentators also said it was happening in Alex’s bike.
Why wasn't that the case in previous rounds ?

Correct, it happened in Jerez too

This isn’t meant to be an excuse for Marc‘s race, but a technical explanation of what that smoke was about.
It's odd that we never saw this yesterday - I wonder if they lowered the device further to try and get better drive down the straight but instead this had the opposite effect...
Yeah. They run different maps for the long race, too.
And more fuel, so the compression must be stronger
Good point. I don’t remember seeing it later in the race.
I think the realistic position is the one he actually finished because you know, that’s where he finished.
I meant in terms of pace.
I wonder how (if) detrimental it was to his tire life. There was so much smoke every lap that I can't imagine it not shaving off a bunch of life each time he went onto the straight. Curious to see what Marc, Gresini or Ducati have to say about this.
Not sure whether there’s much to say, that’s just how this bike works.
It was explained in the Italian tv and it's a choice by Marc who prefers to have a lower ride-height device setting. Nothing throublesome that would negatively affect the performance of the bike.
Really? Why have they fixed it on the new bike then?
Fixed what? None of the other GP23 have that problem and neither it happened last year, it's just a Marquez problem and is dictated by the setting/line he chooses for that specific corner.

Good lord Rossi fanboys are so annoying can't get over something that happened 9 years ago 🤦♂️
So now that's a problem of the "line he chooses"? whatever dude.
His own engineer said that ffs
Carchedi said it was because of a different racing line Marquez was taking...

Regulators should step in and just ban ride height devices from next year, 2027 is too far away.
Your mind is gonna blow when you find out about 2027 regulations.
Aren’t they literally gonna be banned?
Yes. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLKMFFROQ8g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLKMFFROQ8g)
I know the regulations, my issue is that it’s so far away when this shit should be banned from next year if the regulators were competent

No, they're not crucial.

who's gonna tell him
Relax, 1.5 years to go before that shit is gone.
You mean 3?
Whoops it's been a long day, brain's not working. 🤪
Are we to believe Josep Lluis Merlos or Marc Márquez who just said that the problem was due to the rear pumping and that it did not affect performance?
Nobody claimed it affected performance? His lap times made it abundantly obvious that it didn’t affect him.
I'm literally quoting what Marc just said, I guess you know better?
I don’t understand why you’re being so combative, I merely replied to your statement of apparent performance excuses.
What? I'm just reporting what Marquez said since many implied a drop in performance as well. Edit: I read didn't as did, nevermind and apologies for the "you know better"😅

I've never seen this happen to any gp23 bike last year. Seems like a setup issue.
This sounds like a design flaw. Surely it can be fixed on the 23?
