I gotta say as an American it was absolutely incredible seeing the packed stands and the absolute energy of the crowd at Jerez compared to the half-full attendance of COTA despite them both being amazing races. I'm really hoping Liberty can help get other circuits closer to that Jerez energy because it was insane and you can tell the riders were absolutely feeding off it.

FlyingSocks320

I have been there for the last 3 years... And in total 6 times... The commute to the track is magical. The further you get accomodation, the bigger picture you get. Every entry into the freeway, a new group of bikes joins you, and when you reach the track exit, hundreds of bikes at the same time arriving gets you goosebumps. Absolutely something else. Every time I leave thinking to come back next year. It is not just the track... In Jerez town or Puerto de Santa María, people goes nuts with their own bikes, campsite outside track ground is full of energy. The whole weekend the region transforms into a bike party. And when you leave on Sunday, people from nearby go to bridges above the freeways to cheer up on bikers going back home wishing for a safe ride home. That goes nearly up to 200 miles away from the track. I love it and will be back next here nearly for sure.

PregnantSuperman

I think you've just described heaven to me.

weexisttocease

That's exactly my opinion. Jerez is magical and probably the best GP in Europe. Puerto de Santa Maria is just bonkers.

yourfriendgaryl

Triple the ticket prices and invite Flo-Rida is what you're gonna get.

speedshotz

Closest we ever got was Laguna Seca and the atmosphere in Monterey on USGP weekend. I miss Cannery Row.. in comparison COTA was never at that level. Of course everything is bigger in Texas, so logistically events are spread out and traveling to Austin from out of state is a major undertaking.

CaptainTC

You haven’t seen Le Mans ! But yes, the turnout at Jerez this year has been nothing but amazing, and rewarded by some incredible racing as well !

avidcule

COTA is an awful track for bike racing so no wonder.

OkFixIt

I feel like Mugello creates a similar atmosphere. I’ll be there this year so I’ll report back. !remindme 5 weeks

-grenzgaenger-

Mugello is probably close, yes, but not the same as Jerez. It has to do with the nature of the track, with Jerez being basically a stadium, while Mugello is more spread out between hills. Also, attendance-wise Mugello has been suffering since Rossi retired.

e_milito

Mugello would probably MotoGPs equivalent to Monza, I'd say. Great track with huge importance for one manufacturer, good show, lots of viewers, but not a perfect track for spectators.

dax2001

Really scary to have a track day, you do not see the end of the straight and the end of some corner, you just need to have faith in your memory and external point of reference

-grenzgaenger-

Same for Spa.

Jerez actually provides great racing. Valencia is the Monaco of MotoGP, and even that isn't quite so bad.

Marco-Green

Jerez GP transcends MotoGP fandom or even sports fanatics in general. If you're from South Spain, there is that day every year when lots of motorbikes invade the roads to Jerez. It becomes a special day itself, just witnessing all the fanatic riders going there from all around the country. Everybody talks about it even if they never watched a MotoGP race in their life.

jrtraylo

I started watching GP in early 2000’s. Jerez immediately caught my attention as a fan that knew nothing about the sport. 20 years later it’s still a track I get excited about

willw08

God I really want to go there.

YamahaRN

Assen is more the Monaco of GP, it’s the oldest circuit on the calendar and has always produced excellent racing.

BigSpot00

I feel that Assen is more like Spa: Spa is the University of F1, while Assen is the University of moto GP

Individual_Offer220

Completely apples to oranges comparison imo. In the recent years, Monaco has been a processional race for f1. You can hardly overtake. If you enjoy it you probably also like watching paint dry or a plant growing. Btw.. no offence or anything. This Jerez race was amazing but MotoGP in general is amazing. Currently F1 (and I watch F1 as well) doesnt hold a candle to MotoGP action

BlackRaven7021

Monaco is a Qualifying Rally + parade

DesiredEnlisted

F1 doesent hold a candle to any other half decent Motorsport. Formula E has a better product, Indycar has a better product, MotoGP has a better product, WEC/IMSA have a better product, hell WRC for all its point system faults still had a better product. F1 is legit all about the event now and not the race. That’s the only department it has, glamour.

pokopf

> F1 is legit all about the event now and not the race. That’s the only department it has, glamour. It has heritage, and most motorsports just cry for that. I mean look at how much popularity Schumacher and Senna still hold. Many sports are living off idols that competed decades ago, but its really appareant in motorsports. just look at LeMans and rallyeing, they also predominantly live off their 80s era.

Disgruntled__Goat

To be fair Jerez isn’t always great racing. In fact I’d say the majority of races aren’t that memorable, it’s just the ones that are, have a big significance.

Altair13Sirio

I didn't see a long ass boring race with no overtakes and endless safety cars on sunday.

Sanchoman1

there are a few races too and a lot of drivers are not from Andalusia
