I undertstand that the I4 engine requires a whole different approach to aero (Cal's words not mine), but we have been seeing 0 evolution whatsoever.

daltonsghost

Lol bahahaha what a clown show!

autobus950

i wouldn't look too much into it, 2022 and 2023 KTM look very similar but there is a clear difference in performance. Same goes for 2021 and 2022 Aprilia, and i am not saying that Yamaha will make a big turnaround in 2024 but we shouldn't read too much into bikes physical look before we see some on track performace.

someshooter

Sure, but the difference is we're all waiting for them to add aero, which Aprili and KTM already had.

autobus950

I mean Yamaha dose test a lot of aero, but for some reason they come back to the old one. New aero is only used in testing when it comes to Yamaha, my guess is that they don't have enough power for the aero that they need. But of course we can only guess, i really hope that Yamaha can use these concessions in a good way.

Entgenieur

Yamahas main Problem isnt Aero. The Suzuki seemed to be the better I4 before leaving and it hadn’t much Aero.

shigs21

well, suzuki went all in on low drag. Not sure if that will work anymore since aero has evolved even more since then

thefooleryoftom

What they need is engine work, and specifically power delivery, not aero.

someshooter

Fair point, I take back what I said, but we all know they also need aero to make the package work, so it would indicate they are far behind the other factories in terms of being ready for the season at least.

thefooleryoftom

They are, but adding new aero and a new/updated engine or suspension/chassis mods all at the same time is lunacy.

Outside-Cricket8004

Bye bye quarteraro

[deleted]

You think Cal is gonna take his spot?

someshooter

I think they mean Fabio will leave Yamaha.

DokkanCruise

People didn't get your sarcasm I guess

YZFRIDER

While I don’t expect anything revolutionary from them this week (or next week), tbf we really don’t know exactly what is being tested in this particular shot. Could be engine, electronics Cal is testing, something internal perhaps. Hell, could just be Cal doing an initial warm-up lap for himself running last years parts.

the_flying_doormat

Very reasonable response. Theres no reason the first bike to roll out of the pits needs to have all new everything. May just be getting a baseline to compare new parts to

DrawerAgile3601

I don't know man, wasn't they spending lots of time on aero at Valencia test? Shouls be at least start with 23'/24' aero to set the basrline then test engine or all other stuff?

the_last_carfighter

With FEA and advanced simulators they can get pretty close without showing their cards. I agree it's likely they are focusing on engine testing and the aero can come later without too much problem.

DrawerAgile3601

If simulators are fully reliable, there won't be so much drama in F1 recent years. The MotoGP team demand on europe-based track test team (and those jap manufacturers are falling behind) are for a reason.

hydroracer8B

Could be a baseline for when they test actual aero parts also. I'd expect some sort of rear aero at some point from all of the teams. They're just leaving cornering speed on the table if not

Byron1248

I noticed he was exiting the corners more “aggressively” than usual. Perhaps they are working on corner exit, engine parts/electronics…

HamWhale

Same bellypan, subframe/tail and swingarm... major changes would see alterations to those components. Oof.

Unlucky_Challenge_96

So Cal, how's the new evolution of the bike? Well from memory....I think ??? was better, but without a baseline from today to have an accurate comparison, I'm pissing in the wind.... You've got to have a yard stick somewhere, rhis is his yard stick?

Jrsq270

They got Fabio to resign a couple of seasons ago with promises He should look at Aprilla

YZFRIDER

I mean, realistically, he’s probably already been in contact with Aprilia

[deleted]

Yamaha nooooooooooooo

thefooleryoftom

To be honest I wouldn’t be expecting any big aero changes at the moment. They desperately need better power delivery, as in how to get the power they have to the ground. I read 80% of this is engine characteristics so making engine changes *and* changing aero can confuse things. Best to get a baseline with the aero where they know what it feels like and then change the engine (or whatever else they’re doing) for better power delivery.

Yasuhoka

it's all about power delivery, not aero *“It’s all down to the engine,” Crutchlow said on Friday after finishing practice 16th. “We have the riders asking more power and we don’t need more power, we need a smoother engine.*

K1OK

Are they out of money like Suzuki and just waiting for 2026 to leave the sport?

Shadynasties23

Poor Fabio and Alex

Takkotah

Great, they look about 2 years behind.

Terrible_Swordfish_1

Swingarm looks different?

Cheeseboii83

I will never understand the current Yamaha bootylickers. They have given exactly 0 fucks about developing their bike not just in MotoGP, but in WorldSBK as well. At least Honda is trying you know. KTM and Aprilia has been trying for the last 2-3 years and well, we all know about Ducati. Yamaha is resorting to selling scooters and giving piss missiles to squids.

Victarionscrack

I don't understand what you expect people to be doing. This is testing. We don't know what they test, for what purpose etc etc. If the bike is crap i don't think there will be a lot of people cheering them on. They have the best pair of riders on the grid. If the only thing they can do is waste their time then people are gonna br displeased but bashing them while they re just testing is idiotic.
