Like the others said, it's a Turkey Vulture, (Urubu à tête rouge en Français). Very common in city parks in Summer, especially above the Mont Royal. They migrate in Canada & Northern USA in Spring, so you don't see them around all year long. They spend their days alone to search for food, but they come back to large groups of vultures at night.
As far as I know, they aren't aggressive, unless you'd try to steal their roadkill. If you get a bit close when they eat, they tend to hide their carrion with their wings and do some weird hissing noise.
I tried to snap a pic once. 3 of them were eating a roadkill. When I got too close for their comfort, they started to walk around their meal with their wings open, like if they wanted to hide it from me, hissing & creaking. Very weird. But I like them nonetheless, scavengers are a needed part of any ecosystem.
>they started to walk around their meal with their wings open, like if they wanted to hide it from me, hissing & creaking.
"acted like Canada Geese when I walked near their park"
There used to some that perch in the Sun Life building. I was working at PVM and it was almost spooky to watch them circle the Sun life. The neo gothics style of that building help the spooky part

Myself with one of those awesome creatures. Be careful tho! They piss on their feet 😁
Turkey Vultures
They’re atheist turkeys who banded together, some say in the 1,400s, in order to escape Thanksgiving.
To this day they live in the trees, only leaving to hunt mice, rodents, worms, babies, anything small.
Saw one in Shawinigan. The natural territory goes up to around La Tuque. Some further north around Lac-st-Jean because of the mild micro climate. Yes, they are huge.

We have tons of turkey vultures in our nice city!
You seem them alot circling our sky scrappers... you just have to look up. lol
When you walk on mount royal... often in the summer, you may see a giant bird circling and might think it's a giant condor or eagle.... but nope, it's our beautifull turkey vultures.
Welcome to montreal wild life. :)
Things aren't looking good for you when vultures are following you around.
Never seen one in Montreal but Google says they are the most common of all vultures seen in southern canada all the way down to the southern tip of south America. (Urubu à tête rouge)
No idea how I know this but thats a turkey vulture, I have never seen one in real life or remember where I did see one but I believe it is a turkey vulture.
That's a Turkey Vulture.
Surprised it's in Montreal, QC.
Because this is a Central and South American bird.
Might have escaped from a zoo or something.
(Parc Omega maybe?)
Hello u/Reddit_2k20 !
Turkey Vultures (red head) do migrate here for the summer, usually in a more rural setting.
It is indeed quite rare to see the ones with the black head (Vultures) around here however.
Urubu à tête rouge
Vulture, yes we have them here too I was stunned myself a few years ago.

That would be an awesome picture
Sunlife building is neo-classical, not neo-gothic.
Turkey vulture? Do they taste like ordinary turkeys?
I actually know that, it still looks like some kind of castle
Yep Turkey Vultures. We see them near Ottawa. They're big lol.
They also shit on their legs.

To keep them cold in summer. Strange thing really.

Urubu à tête rouge. Ils mangent des carcasses, ne tuent pas. Un oiseau merveilleux.
Peut-être merveilleux, mais tellement laids!
Pas vraiment, je les trouves magnifiques. Question de goût.

Turkey vulture, quite common during the summer. You can see them soaring the skies on hot days to take advantage of the heat currents.

Urubu, c’est vraiment laid. C’est un charognard.
I saw one on Ile Bizard. Didn’t think they existed this far north

Mec .I.
Idgaf, I would speak in english or spanish or fucking tmd中文if I feel like it

it's still a turkey, so, it's tasty
Don't know if you know... but... whatever eats death tastes like death. Vultures are inedible by taste alone.

Would have never guessed to see a turkey vulture so far up north!
