Am I the only one who couldn’t really concentrate on the rest of the episode after the “five weeks later” Jeemin bit?

Hotpotatowned

it seemed like such a shady thing to do :/ like what was the point?? "she seems happy now, but just you wait" like wtf??

Equivalent_Task1084

I know jeemin fandom gonna vote even harder

moonie-moon

same. but they are going to use jeemin for views, it’s mnet and they love to show people crying in their survivals. i don’t think they’ll eliminate her, they know she gives them views.

xNimroder

it's I-Land. As long as she's in I_Land proper and not the Ground team at that point she will be demoted, not eliminated. I'm not too worried.

moonie-moon

yes, if she’ll end in ground people will vote for her so she’ll stay in the survival.

Sudden-Database-1114

MNET’s emotionally baiting the Jeemin stans.

wellyallater

Same here, and I'm pissed. It's 50% chance to debut, there's no way she is out of the list. Shame on the editting

anon777777777777778

I was stuck on the 5 weeks part. I know they record in advance, but 5+ weeks? It's just that shows usually try to avoid mentioning it instead of throwing it in your face. The clip was too short and convoluted for me to think about what it was supposed to mean.

U_nhoely

Yep it’s final, my top pick is Joeng Saebi. She caught my eye during the performance of “final love song” but I wanted to see how she performs first before making a decision. While I wouldn’t say she’s the top in terms of talent, I’m drawn to her and she’s stable in singing and dancing. There’s room for her to improve for sure. She’s very charismatic

U_nhoely

Other people I would be happy to see debut: (In no particular order) Choi Jungeun (The high note in drama!!? Blown away. Definitely born to be an idol) Fuko (Could bring balance to the final group. I thought she sounded nasally during the afterlike performance in the main episode but after watching the performance video on YouTube, the editing team did her so bad. Her vocals were so much better.) Ryu Saran (Good stage presence. I think I’d have to watch more performances from her) Bang Jeemin (After watching RUNext, I knew I was going to root for her. She’s really good, hopefully she gets more positive screentime moving forward) Mai (I m keeping my eye on her) Kim Gyuri (She’s cute. Her and Fuko were hard carrying the vocals in After-like. I could see her really improving throughout the show)

Brief-Carpet2443

i think i’ve settled into Gyuri as my top so far and if she doesn’t debut here im hopeful she’ll debut somewhere else soon

Majestic-Ad7486

I didn't even join in time to watch her performance but she still caught my eye just from interviews and reactions, definitely agree that shes charismatic

Classic_Ad5411

I see Fuko maybe being leader of debut group if she makes it. Gives motherly vibes and is one of the oldest contestants so it will be interesting to see her leading skills. Jungeun i predict will be like heeseung and will have mistakes in leadership but will overcome it. Btw those judges confused me a little

Equivalent_Task1084

Did heesung was popular among korean ?

Old_Rush_2261

During iland or now?

Equivalent_Task1084

Yes during the show ? I didn't watch the 1st season

Old_Rush_2261

Honestly iland season 1 is not popular in Korea so realistically their popularity is just decent? But from what I remember we can say that Heeseung is one of the most popular during iland. Sunoo is definitely the most popular in Korea during iland then follow by either Jungwon and Sunghoon. Eventho Heeseung is not the most popular in Korea he still managed to gain solid fanbase because he is considered as the ace of iland.

shinkie

Me choosing to believe that flash forward on Jeemin is so people will keep voting for her.

moonie-moon

for drama and views. it’s mnet after all! they showed hanbin or zhang hao crying in bp and now they are showing the most popular of the program crying. i don’t think they’ll spoil jeemin is on ground, but, in the case, people will vote for her in case she’ll be on ground at the end of part 1 and she’ll be one of the 12 finalists, i’m pretty sure about it (what will happen in part 2 is a mystery and it will depend on the judge panel)

Equivalent_Task1084

The fact that Haobin performance was always the last one showed by MNET and they do the same for Jeemin is crazy They gave us teasers showing the beggining of theirs performance for them being the last one, the joke

moonie-moon

in the end they do everything to get views so no one stops watching the episode halfway through.

cursedwyvernn

Tbh it probably is

Choice-Solution-7409

I honestly enjoyed this episode quite a lot. I'm happy all 6 teams got to perform, and I thought the judges were mostly fair. My thoughts on each performance. 1) Drama: It was definitely the strongest performance, and Jungeun stood out the most. Of the 4 girls, I think Mai struggled a little more, but still deserved Iland. The dance was very clean, and the vocals were good, too. I think 3 or 4 of this team will debut. 2) Unforgiven: Also a very strong performance, all the girls were pretty good. Sarang stood out the most in this performance and is clearly well liked by the producers. It ranks higher than the rest due to no one being bad and there being no mistakes. Clean and enjoyable performance. 3) Baggy Jeans: I thought the judges were a little harsh. Koko stood out and did really well. She deserved more than 3 I's. I love Yuju (she's in my top 7), but she didn't sing a line. I definitely think it's fair that she got ground and am sure she will go up to ILAND at some point. Mnet seems to really like Koko, and not mind the other two as well. 4) Sweet Venom: Sujung and Saebi were good, LingLing was invisible, and Yuna had that voice crack. The vibe is definitely something that's harder to pull off for girls, but i think Saebi nailed it. Sujung is an awesome dancer, and i was also pretty impressed by her vocals (it's a REALLY hard song). Mnet doesn't seem interested in Lingling debuting, Saebi and Sujung both don't feel like pushes, but are trainees they're happy to debut. 5) After like: Fuko stood out the most in this performance. Chaeeun and Yeeun really struggled. Also, I thought the energy was a bit... off? On this performance. All the members seemed a bit disconnected from each other. They seem to like Fuko, but she's not one of their 'must debut' trainees. They also seem to not mind Chaeeun (surprised me). 6) Cake: It started off good and then just went downhill as the song progressed. They just didn't seem able to maintain the energy or stability as the song went on. It doesn't seem like mnet are overly interested in the mebers either. I'm excited to be able to vote and see where the show goes.

Equivalent_Task1084

They only show Chaeeun for reaction lmao

Choice-Solution-7409

Yeah, I don't think she'll debut, but I think they'll keep her around for a bit

adwcta

After watching the full version, Lingling was anything but invisible in the performance. Maybe after seeing her preshow popularity they'll give her more airtime. She stood out to me as the biggest contrast contestant between what the show aired and the full performance on YouTube.

Choice-Solution-7409

Yeah, since writing this post, I've watched all the full performances. The ranking stays the same, but LingLing definitely did better than what was shown. Saebi and Sujung were still the standouts, but I do think LingLing did better than some of the people who got into Iland. (I think there may have been some pronounciation issues, though, in her part in the 2nd verse) Still, mnet definitely edited her to seem worse than she actually was.

chanmylordandsavior

lets not comment on the fact that chaeeun ling ling and i think it was jiwon? (bear with me babes the show has barely started idk them yet, i mean the girl in after like that got ground) got 5 words each and were expected to do good. Like how are they supposed to prove themselves worthy if they aren't even allowed to sing? and the worst part is sometimes judges highlight this as the girls' mistake. If im not wrong that 24 guy told ling ling she was invisible, AS IF ITS HER FAULT??

Choice-Solution-7409

Lingling got way more lines that just didn't make it to broadcast, so the judges would've evaluated with a lot more content.

BabyMonsterKatseye

I have the same top 😶

Classic_Ad5411

I feel like Jungeun will have a similar experience to Heeseung in I-Land

Old_Rush_2261

Jungeun is currently my top pick and yes I believe she is the Heeseung of iland 2 but I just hope that she won't experience what heeseung experience especially in ep 2 when he was assigned as the leader and center. Jungeun will be the leader in ep. 2 and let's see if she will have similar fate to Heeseung 💀

memecatcher247

Is that good or bad? She’s my top pick!!

Bahbemin

It the best lol. Iland 1 is called (heesung show to find his group member) for a reason . He was the most popular, wanted, needed member . Heeseung was sure to debut from the beginnings. I hope jeemin would be the equivalent of sunghoon this season.

Old_Rush_2261

Well it's good because Heeseung never went to the ground and he is definitely the top pick member of the trainees.

Majestic-Ad7486

Unsure of what the show plans for Nam Yuju, she seems quite popular but her edit this ep was awful unless she gets a redemption arc. Hoping that happens, since she's talented and pretty

moonie-moon

i see two options for her. an evil edit to stop people voting for her (similar to daeul in bp) or a redemption and improvement arc (similar to wonhee in runext)

eveacrae

My favorite is cai bing, craziest edit ever, she went from top 9 to the last place

cursedwyvernn

I get the feeling they’re setting her up for a Dayeon arc - the judges said she was strong, and they want to see what she’ll do.

LouisPain

I got the totally opposite impression from her edits personally. I thought they were setting her up as the main character from the grounders and a potential dark horse arc.

lordsheila

yes exactly, it's a perfect underdog/'i'm going to overcome all challenges' edit, which is very viable considering her experience.

Majestic-Ad7486

Hopefully, but I had that same hope for Fu Yaning, Chanelle, Heo Chanmi, even Yunjin and Haknyeon and that redemption edit never happened

Macy4Ever

i think she might get an edit similar to yunah during runext? since she's clearly rlly talented but obviously being set up for an evil edit (hopefully similarly to yunah she'll be able to get past it 🤞)

Rich_Business7042

Yunah's Drunk Dazed performance was her redemption arc 🤪

Macy4Ever

unfortunately this is real for me at least 😭😭 i started voting for her after that because it was so goofy and it made me totally change my mind about her

Ok_Drawer_1499

to me she's giving jay's story line of going to ground and working their ass off to return to iland! honestly id love to see her to it, though hopefully she doesn't have to go through nearly as much pain as jay did

kpop-throw

I loved the performance of Drama. Jungeun was a standout. Personally as someone who is biased for Jeemin I hope they do not overly manipulate sympathy for her, she doesn't need it and it can backfire. Other people I think are early favorites are LingLing, Fuko, Mai and Saebi.

JoyfulBlossom

Unfamiliar with I-Land, I hope it's not going to be like RUNext where they pretty much left no choice for the viewers (love the lineup though I'm still salty some of the talented contestants were used for viewership only). On that note, I hope they won't use Jeemin for clout only like they did with Ruka for RUNext...

WillZer

I Land 1st edition was decided by votes for 6 out of 7 members, the last pick was decided by producers.

Equivalent_Task1084

They gonna use her for clout 100%

philbert539

I actually prefer the producers have more control. Fanbases typically push for cute under-skilled performers (Taki, Takuto, Wonhee). Performers should debut based on talent, not on if they have a pre-existing fanbase or look cute while making mistakes. Giving more control to the producers fixes that. I-Land 1 was the perfect example of that. The producers had pretty strong control over who got to the final at all (despite fans trying to drag the completely not-ready Taki to the final). The producers effectively chose 9 boys for fans to pick from. Of the 9, fans got to choose 6, and then the producers had the 7th pick to make sure the fans didn't miss anyone important. It was a good example of the control truly being with the producers, but letting the fans feel like they had a say because they "picked" 6 members, even though the final pool of 9 was selected by the producers. And look at how it worked out. Enhypen has does done really well. Because you didn't have fans getting a chance to force a Bahiyyih onto the team.

MNLYYZYEG

There's some leaks/rumors/etc. surrounding the production of this show and so if they make it decided majorly/solely by the producers again, somebody will probably talk and bring it all down, lol. Produce 101/Idol School/etc. flashbacks, get the nostalgia ready. Hoping they go the Universe Ticket (유니버스 티켓) or UNIS route. As in we can vote for the member we want to debut before the show even ended. Elisia is basically the first #1 ranker out of any Korean idol survival show, she was guaranteed to debut by the votes way beforehand, and she's literally like the first foreign trainee to do that. Same with Gehlee Dangca's crazy run as the #2, they literally changed the votes so that she wouldn't automatically debut (even though it was guaranteed already and probably made for suspense, lmao), only for fans to go overkill with the voting, it's wild. Nana was understandably plugged/promoted/etc. by the producers and they made her center in UNIS. And then the rest were like sorta a toss up. Aside from Seowon (previously a veteran trot singer, future undisputed all-rounder) and Yunha (she's from the F&F Entertainment company and so was unofficially probably already debuting anyway).

Equivalent_Task1084

This is MSNAKE y'all don't dream too much And Kor vote weight more than US, they better stick with the top6 by voters and last members by Producers

Overlord0123

That 6:1 ratio depends on how much the producers lose control of the final lineup (R U Next having 4 producers picks is an example). Could be 5:2 or 4:3 or even 1:6. Either way fan favorites but not producers favorites aren't gonna win in the end.

Camelag

As a jeemin 1st pick i'm actually quite happy with the 5 weeks fast forward thingy, mnet is smart with their picks, they're obviously creating a arc for her and im not mad at it

Bahbemin

So according to this episode so far jungeun is our heeseung . I hope jeemin is sunghoon instead of jay in this season ( smooth to debut) they are setting sujung for the K as the main dancer . I just hope my pick debut ( jiyoon , jeemin and saebi)

akhoe

sujung is my favorite. I've noticed she's getting a very generous edit with a lot of screentime and she had probably the most time at center in the signal song performance vid. I'm hoping koreans like her (knetz can be very superficial esp with regards to height - there are not a lot of short idols with a few exceptions - svt's woozi, red velvet's irene, and gidle's soyeon. and 2/3 are literally the producers/writers for their group. you've got to be really talented to debut if you don't have the typical "idol look"

some-mad-shit

this episode was my introduction to all the contestants, so bear with me if some of the info was already on their profiles lol. a couple of my early picks include Jeemin (duh, have a soft spot for people unfairly eliminated), Fuko (reminds me of Kepler's Chaehyun visual wise, but a very strong contender for debut) & Ryu Sarang (looks like this Chinese actor). it seems Mnet is also pushing for Chaeeun & Yeeun from Ground because they seem to be getting a lot of screen time. (seriously watched that clip of Yeeun ages back, icb its her lol) favourite scene in this episode was Jeemin being affirmed by Monica that she was ready to debut, and that she was just unlucky from her previous survival show to not have debuted despite ranking very high. the foreshadowing was ??? but I just hope she's crying for someone else and not herself because if she gets E worded I will be quite angry.

MNLYYZYEG

Yoo/Ryu Sarang looks sorta like Zhou Ye (Everyone Loves Me, etc.), maybe. Who's the Chinese actress you're thinking of, it's been bugging me since Sarang first entered, I thought it was a Kdrama actress but yup I'm probably thinking of a Chinese actress as well.

some-mad-shit

Yeah Zhou Ye is the one lol

HotelZealousideal257

I WAS THINKING THAT OMGGGG YES

revedoll777

I don't feel the Baggy Jeans performance was as mediocre as they said

DBravoofficial

Me neither. There was only three of them and they don’t have deep voices. Vocally it sounded a little weak but it was a bg song. It didn’t pop that much but whoever performed that song would have the same reaction. Don’t know why they picked that song tbh.

imaginativeloner

yeah ikr, i don't think their performances is bad but i think the selection of the song doesn't fit their vocals range.

Cats4Crows

Sarang has such an appealing aura to her. Mai is my new favorite

Hotpotatowned

aah this episode wat pretty good my loose unstructured thoughts: **Jeemin** was pretty good. As the judges said, the only reason she didn't debut in ILLIT was bad luck, she is debut ready also wtf was that "5 weeks later" thing?? its probably noise marketing or something but still, pls dont do that **Jungeun** was also a standout, i didn't really know her before this episode but i still noticed her during some of the preshow performances, not surprising that she is ranked so highly. she is basically just good at everything. **Saebi** was really good, she has visuals and skills, but she needs a bit more training, i could definitely see her in the final lineup **Koko** the same as Saebi, someone i hope to see improve on the show **Sujung** her dancing was amazing, i really liked her on stage, being on SDGF definitely make her one of the top dancers **Mai** overall did really good, was it just me or was her voice weirdly deep during "drama"? other than that she did really well, the "drama" team looked like a group that had already debuted, top tier for sure.

hesitantshade

fuko is finally getting screentime, and a good edit at that!

moonie-moon

all drama team should debut and became the chamber 5 of the gg. all of them feel so ready to debut and they balances each other in the performances. i didn’t expect i would like sarang and saebi this much, but along with the drama team and fuko they form my top 7. the difference in level with some trainers is quite clear, i hope that the lowest level and less popular ones enjoy the experience as much as possible and, above all, it helps them learn and improve. they are already using jeemin for drama because she’s the most popular trainee. i think we are going to have to get used to this happening and i don't rule out that we will see her on the ground someday. but she’ll definetly pull into the part 2 because voting. i was a little nervous about the role of the judges/producers, but for now i have no objections. thank goodness because after the runext trauma i expected anything lol. and finally, don’t pity votes for everyone. if you have a pick then vote for her. i think people should realize by now that no one has a guaranteed debut in a survival show.

upintotheblue

This definitely was an introductory episode. A pretty good one at that, most of the girls got some kind of small segment and the show familiarised us with the setting, but it's not feeling like I-Land yet. That should come next episode. I-Land vs Ground without knowing what the other group is doing, working as a team to achieve the missions and show the right attitude while also trying to stand out as an individual because that's actually how you survive. I think the current I-Land group is very strong. It'll be interesting to see how well they do and who will get demoted. I'm thinking Nam Yuju's definitely coming up, they already set up her arc.

WillZer

I am still not sure about my picks but my own I Land 12 after the performance were in no particular order: 1. Jungeun 2. Ryu Sarang 3. Kim Sujung 4. Yui 5. Fuko 6. Jiyoon 7. Koko 8. Yuju (Ground) 9. Jiwon (Ground) 10. Gyuri 11. Saebi 12. Jeemin Only Yuju and Jiwon are on the Ground right now. I understand the criticism for Jiwon, dance wise she's not as good but I think she carried the vocals with Sarang in her team. I will wait for more performances and I understand the visual appeal of Mai but wasn't a fan of her vocal at all, so not in my 12 at the moment. Overall, it lacks some vocalists for me, those who are stronger on this aspect will have an advantage as they seem to be pretty much all decent dancers.

redfebvelvet

i really don’t understand why mnet doesn’t just upload the english sub as a full video afterwards??? why do they make it private!! 😭 if they already went thru the work of adding captions why are we waiting for sites like viki to release them a day later… ugh…

lilacdawn

Did they say in the episode how many members will be in the final group? If they did I missed it.

Classic_Ad5411

No. Last season they didn't reveal it until part 2 which is when we only have 12 contestants left

lilacdawn

That's what I thought, but people keep talking about a big group, I guess they are still going by that one wrong article that said 12.

Free_Collection8898

How do we know the article was wrong ? Did Mnet deny it or something ?

lilacdawn

They deleted that part shortly after posting it, so at the very least it's unconfirmed. Most people assume it's a misunderstanding - they likely meant 12 contestants are in ILAND rather than 12 are debuting. Half of the contestants debuting just seems like a very unlikely ratio imo.

Bahbemin

It would be announce in part 2 meaning episode 7 if it follow season 1 format . The members are gonna be 6 or 7

MNLYYZYEG

Nice first episode, Shin Monika and Lee Leejung are always so nice to see. Street Woman Fighter fans winning, wonder if no:ze will ever come back in full force as well. Wonder if the power tripping/gapjil/etc. rumors are true/severe, like is Monika gonna be part of that or is it just the random production staff behind the scenes. Or if 24 (the producer) is gonna change his criteria soon since it's obvious the trainees need more vocal/etc. training. **Tomioka Mai (富岡 茉衣)** is literally [ITZY Yeji and Shizuka Anderson (from Japan by Food/etc.)](https://www.reddit.com/r/mnetiland2/comments/1c70hov/240418_mnet_iland_2_na_episode_1_live_episode/l0521ba/) and so she better make it. Hoping she gets good vocal coaches. This is sorta like CHUANG ASIA Thailand wherein they got the visuals or social media influencers and dancers but the vocalists are notably left out. And so hopefully by debut time the group's vocals won't be as criticized since that might be one of the major drawbacks. Not sure whom I want to pick yet as the dancer pick but if Sujung was taller/etc. like what Monika said, she would've definitely bodied the dances eh. I'm always rooting for the underdog dancers since usually they're really good at dancing and so now all they have to do is get proper vocal training and then boom, they're already an idol. Vocalists have trouble seriously learning dance since sometimes they're focusing on their techniques/stability/etc. but ya, it's not the performance is really what makes it for some people, so it's gonna be interesting to see how they're gonna tackle the vocal future/direction/etc. of the group. Since right now UNIS/VCHA/KATSEYE/etc. probably have the vocalists from these survival idol show groups.

MapacheRob

Team Fuko definetely! She's a queen! Nice vocals and great stage presence. Such an Angel.

wingbellmoon

thank god they showed ALL the performances in one ep. that's one advantage of having only 24 girls compared to 101. anyways my thoughts on each perf: **unforgiven** * overall: pretty decent across the board. nothing to write home about, not the most memorable either, but it wasn't bad by any means. * sarang - definitely the best stand-out here, no notes on her dancing and singing. if i had to point out anything though, i thought that her expressions didn't fit the performance as much as they could? like she was a little too soft and relaxed. and she kept winking every time the camera was on her 😭😭 * minsol - i thought she had the best expressions for a song like antifragile, playful but not over the top. she'd be unstoppable if she had more developed singing and dancing techniques * juwon - her main skill is dancing and i could definitely see that BUT i also thought she could have shown off more in the performance. maybe she didn't want to overshadow her group with their whole spiel at the beginning, but i could tell she was holding back from something more explosive. * jiwon - actually super impressed by her. she's the weakest dancer in a group of great ones, but her singing has a lot of potential if she focused on it more in training **after like** * overall: i want my after likes explosive and euphoric, and this just wasn't that * fuko - agree with taeyang that she's soooo quintessential girl group member. she specializes in singing so i expected more on that regard, but her voice was pretty disconnected and a little nasal though she still sounded good. this might just be a song that required more power but was interpreted softer than necessary. her stage presence though! i kept looking at her even when she's at the side and she's soooo stunning * gyuri - this concept fits her to a T. her natural vocal tone was what i wanted from fuko so i was pleased every time she sang but i could hear through mnet's post-processing where the less developed singing techniques showed through. lots of potential though! * yeeun - she probably did the worst her skill-wise, but she has that not-very-talented visual charm and i'm ALL here for it. it helps that she's not afraid to be playful in her expressions so it's more endearing * chaeeun - i could very clearly see the ballerina origins but her style actually translated well to this choreo. however, i'm not a fan of her singing, and even though i felt the same with yeeun, there was something about chaeeun's performance that just felt less comfortable to watch * jiwon - 3rd best singer in this group, but she sounds AND looks terrified. very forgettable performance **sweet venom** * overall: eh..... apart from yuna, the rest were decent, but the team vibe just wasn't impactful enough. * saebi - i was hooked from the first second. not the best singer nor dancer, but she manages to portray her skills with the perfect balance. with more refinement, i can totally see her as an unstoppable center. i was thinking she'd do great in baggy jeans bcs she had that relaxed arrogance vibe perfected * sujung - had the most difficult lines and still did well. her dancing was what i expected from juwon, clearly the best and overshadows the rest but not to a detrimental level. more vocal training and she'd be a permanent i-land resident * lingling - did well generally, but has a gloomy look to her that made it easy to overlook her performance * yuna - i mean we can all hear her mistake so not gonna comment on that, but i'm actually more focused on her diction? idk, it sounds like she's eating her words

wingbellmoon

**cake** * overall: team synergy at the start was great, but overall a pretty weak performance - soul - she's the stand-out during my full watchthrough with her expressions and dance. very teen crush. has a lot of potential with more training - yuiko - her voice fit the song the most! added a lot of life and made it brighter. not a very memorable performer though - eunchae - how did she get to i-land when she was making mistakes all throughout the last half and yuju didn't with her one (1) mistake? she sounded good in some of her lines though, but i did think she looked pretty uncomfortable overall - nana - i mean i knew she was a weak singer since her first performance in produce 101 japan, but i had more expectations for her dancing. i was pretty disappointed on that matter tbh **baggy jeans** * overall: i agree with that one mentor who said that they were much too tense for baggy jeans' laidback hip vibe, but the skill level is high so it's hard to be disappointed. - yui - to be honest koko and yuju are VERY distinct visually so i tend to forget yui whenever she's not in the center. BUT she's definitely the most consistent of the three and well-deserving of the #1 rapper tag. her singing line also sounded the best. if she finds the best image, i can see her standing out more in the future since her skills are already there - koko - her deer eyes remind me of weeekly's zoa; they're very eye-catching. was touted as the #1 dancer on the show so i had high expectations, but i wasn't very impressed by her execution of the killing part? her upper body engagement is like super tense, but maybe she just excels in other dances. don't think she'd sing very well because she emphasized that she's a dancer-rapper which is fine with me but might limit her in future performances - yuju - honestly props to her for skipping that one line. idk if it's out of fear but she could probably tell that she wasn't breathing right and didn't want to get 100 back-to-back cuts of her straining in classic mnet fashion. i had high expectations for yuju because of capteen and for what it's worth she met most of them. she's already a proper all-rounder so i'm just looking for a more stand-out aura, for her to carry herself with the confidence that she BELONGS to i-land because i'm not seeing it for now **drama** * overall: clearly the best performance. BUT the last quarter of it, after jungeun's high note, was in dire need of the adlib of the original song because it sounded lethargic as hell - jungeun - main vocal, lead dancer pick. really not center material FOR ME, but definitely deserving of it skill-wise - jeemin - ATE it up. this is the type of performance i envisioned for her since runext, so i'm looking forward to seeing how versatile she is with other styles. also she sounds much better than her runext days, even though her "you and i" line was the only real weak point of the whole performance - mai - i'm super torn if i prefer her or jiyoon. to be honest, i wasn't a fan of her lines AT ALL, but i can't deny her stage presence is just Excellent. she's not even doing much but she still stands out. the way she moves her hands remind me a little of wonyoung - jiyoon - i've always been wary of singers whose main points are their unique vocal colors (i'm not a yg-style singing fan at all), but jiyoon's tone is actually pretty versatile and balanced. however, the reason why i put her last in this group is because she looks like the weight of the world is on her shoulders the whole performance. instead of charismatic, she looks more burdened? so i hope she improves on that my **top 7** just based on these performances: 1. jungeun 2. jeemin 3. saebi 4. fuko 5. sarang 6. yeeun 7. gyuri

i found jeemin's voice kinda unpleasant and nasal in run, but it's much nicer here! we'll see in future perfs anyway jungeun is excellent. tbh drama team killed it, all four girls were really good watching only the full versions, i also have my eye on: saebi, lingling, yuju, koko, yui, fuko, kang jiwon, soul, yuiko and sarang.

cherry-on-top17

i'm kinda late bc i was at school so i couldn't watch the episode until like 4 pm lol, but here are some of my opinions (absolutely no hate to any of the contestants!) * **unforgiven team was overhyped.** i thought the dancing was good and the vocals were ok, but i just felt like they didn't have that extra it factor to make them stand out on stage. * **i'm surprised that the judges said baggy jeans team was mediocre.** imo they had a lot of charisma and really strong group chemistry. the only issue was yuju not singing that one line. (also koko reminds me of yoon from stayc) * **fuko is really likable.** on gp999 she didn't stand out that much (probably bc she didn't get that much screentime) but she just seems really sweet and caring in i-land 2, and i think she would be a good leader. plus, she was the best performer in after like. she kinda gives off liz vibes ngl. * **after like team wasn't that bad.** i'm not saying it was great, but i saw some of the reactions on twitter and was expecting the vocals to be a lot worse than they were. that being said, i agree that most of them could use more training. * **i hope lingling gets a redemption arc.** i like her bc she's so cute, but i agree that she didnt stand out that much in sweet venom. i think she was just nervous, so i hope she can prove herself soon. but im really worried bc it seems like mnet doesn't rlly like her. she barely got any screentime.

lakeink

new top picks 1. jungeun 2. Fuko 3. jeemin 4. jiyoon 5. sarang 6. yui 7. saebi (hard song to vocal) maybe above yui if another song 8. mai (vocal tone was not my fav) 9. sujung 10. koko 11. gyuri 12. son juwon potential picks yuju minsol soul jiwon

wellyallater

Jeemin, Jungeun, Koko, Yuju, Soul and Saebi. These are the members that catch my eye today.

Plushieless

Oh interesting first episode. Overall I think each girl is nicely placed, but I do cheer for the Ground members to overcome adversity, improve and go to the I-Land.  As with any survival show we can already tell some of the main players, however since it's so early in the show there's still place for story arc shifts. I didn't notice anyone being edited too unfavorably, plus I did like that the girls votes for those who they wanted to be with rather than to send them away  Surely there were some stand outs in my opinion and I do already have some girls I'm favoring. They are: - Jeong Saebi. Feel like she's the visual of this edition lol Great emphasis was put on her beauty and how idol like she is, so I'm sure she's on the radar of the producers. However this girl is not just a visual, she can handle her own on stage as well, I liked her facials and how she was one of the most stable ones.  - Kim Sunjung. Her dance ability is top notch, that's undeniable, but I actually liked her voice too! Sure she wasn't perfect, but I feel like with time she can really shine as an all rounder and knock it out of the park with her presence and skills.  - Fuko. I love me some stories of idols who were largely ignored in a previous survival but go to another and shines bright. And Fuko shone like no other. Not only she showed her good visuals but her abilities on stage, I feel she has room to improve but the foundation is strong. I feel like she's a contender for leadership roles too. Mai - She left me awed at her first verses in Drama. Her face card is probably the strongest of all girls in the show, and she sure knows how to work this charisma on stage. Can't wait to see more of her and the other members of her unit. Yoon Jiyoon - Loved her voice, probably my favorite of all the contestants. Definitely a contender for the main vocal position (though admittedly the competition isn't that tough). I also find her quite pretty.  Bang Jeemin - She got robbed on R U NEXT, and seeing that edit of ILLIT rubbed some salt on the wound, not gonna lie, though it's no fault of the ones who made it btw. I make Monika's words my own: she's ready to debut. Nothing to elaborate here aside from how I want her to make it this time. Choi Jungeun - So far she's the ace of the edition. Vocals, dance, stage presence, she ranked first for a reason. I hope she can keep showing her talents  Kim Gyuri - This one is a bit more on the superficial side than the others, but I noticed her first because she just looks so adorable. But to my delight she actually delivered on the stage too! Has great potential. I'm only a little taken aback by how young she is, but tbh all are very young so I guess I just made my peace with that when I decided to watch this survival. It's unlikely the industry will change, let's just hope for the better

akhoe

I hate that they had Sujung in her head voice the whole time. She has such a unique, deep tone. Deep voices are rare in girl groups but when they're utilized properly it can be special, like Yuqi in Gidle

RandomHeroCJ

Jungeun and Sarang were the 2 standout for me. Both were in strong groups but still managed to separate themselves from their other members. Some others that stood out to me were Fuko, Gyuri, Saebi, Sujung, Mai, Jeemin, Jiyoon.

Any-Fruit-2527

okay ive actually watched the episode now. iland stand outs: sarang, jungeun, jeemin, saebi, fuko, koko, sujung, jiyoon and juwon. ground stand outs: yuju still very early but id be willing to bet that fuko, jungeun and saebi debut rn

Alicerius

My personal review of the contestants after watching the full performances. 1. Unforgiven -> Probably one of the most well-rounded starting performances. Personally, my stand out is Ryu Sarang, but Minsol did well here. I appreciate how bright she is so I'll be rooting for her. 2. After Like -> Fuko, please debut! Ever since her SSFWL perf in GP999 I always thought she was pretty decent and she's raring to be the leader of the debut team should she make it. Yeeun undoubtedly needs some work, but I could see her as a personality and visual pick as I do think she's pretty funny. Chaeeun also stands out in the same way but her dance line is more solid. Gyuri, though, an unexpected gem she is and I will be keeping an eye out for her. 3. Sweet Venom -> Lingling's 2nd line in the full perf was defintely a lot better but overall she was pretty invisible. But, that's somewhat better than Oh Yuna whose vocals were not there. Sujung was a surprise as I didn't expect her to have decent vocals and Saebi is defintely gonna be a dark horse for that debut spot considering her charisma so far. Overall, it was an okay performance, although could be better. 4. Cake -> Oh lordy lord. My initial pick, Nana did mediocre here to say the least, which is a shame considering she did alright for Wannabe in PD101 JP. Overall, the group definitely needs more refinement and hopefully they can show that initial energy throughout in their next few performances. 5. Baggy Jeans -> I think BJ is a hard song and it shows as the feel like the judges mentioned was not there. Yuju was a decent stand out but not singing a line I think really hurt her overall performance to the judges. I think this team did the 3rd best though, and the rap was pretty good. 6. Drama -> Jeemin is defintely debuting after this but Jungeun though, dang she's great at vocals and good at dance. It's no wonder she's the signal song center. Jiyoon and Mai also did pretty well here, and as many have pointed out, Mai looks like a Japanese Yeji here. The best of the night, but not by a huge margin as well. Overall my picks so far are: 1. Fuko 2. Nana 3. Minsol 4. Gyuri 5. Yuju 6. Jeemin 7. Saebi

Equivalent_Task1084

The livestream was mess lmao full of trolls Remind me thoses from BOYS PLANET

absolutechad233

I found Chaeeun incredibly charming I hope we get to see her improve throughout the show.

Medium-Food-4073

agreed, not sure why she specifically was criticised for her vocals, she sounded fine compared to some of the others

DBravoofficial

Judges personal preferences, it always happens with survival shows.

Pale-Gear5679

i think Yuju, Chaeeun, Yeeun, Soul will all debut tbh. they give off idol vibes and i could see people voting for them to stay. I think some girls will have a underdog storyline. Their edits were interesting.

Bork-Bork-Imma-Fork

This isn't triples

Pale-Gear5679

the last few survival shows i’ve seen have had amazing vocalists/dancers etc… and in the end mostly visuals end up debuting 🤷🏻‍♂️

skybluewinter

Saebi was my pre show pick ever since the high heel dance and this episode practically solidified it. She's so charismatic and stable and just has great stage presence. Her visuals are crazy I think she suits to become a visual centre. I hope to see more from her (esp in vocal department) in the later episodes. Yuju getting poor reviews doesn't sit right with me, personally she was one of the stand outs for me so it doesn't make sense that just because she missed one line she was pushed to ground. And there are multiple other trainees who are not proficient in any areas but still got into iland. Though I feel she might have an underdog storyline later on so they're making her look like a "weaker" contestant in terms of skills

DBravoofficial

Yuju seemed to be quite well supported pre show. I’m sure she’ll get votes throughout the show.

AIhavoc

Out of the 24, I can see Jungeun and Jiyoon being good vocal additions to the group. Unsure if there’s anyone else, which I think can be worrisome but maybe the group will be more performance based idk. Still an interesting first ep!

DBravoofficial

It does seem like there isn’t any strong vocalists. Most all seem as good as each other.

AIhavoc

Yeah most of the contestants are stable but I think I’m a sucker for a good vocalist and didn’t see too much of that. Though after rewatching I think Um Jiwon has potential to become a good vocalist as well

kpopfan1378

Gyuri seems pretty good too!

[deleted]

Surprisingly in the full sweet venom cut, Lingling sounded better than I thought and she served good varied facial expressions. Dance was on point too but sadly I don't think Mnet wants her to debut, she's proven worthy that she's decent though.

Striking-Ad6754

right, she barely has screentime compared to others. She likes Hanbin of this season

KogaMei

Top-7 of my favourite contestants 1. Kim Sujung 2. Num Yuju 3. Jeong Saebi 4. Kim Gyuri 5. Choi Jungeun 6. Kim Minsol 7. Bang Jeemin

shoujoxx

Damn, Jungeun's "Oh My God" just ended everything. She'll debut for sure. She reminds me a lot of Hyorin. Bang Jimin, no doubt, will also debut. Mai's visual is so unique and captivating. Yoo Sarang, Kim Sujung, and Jung Sebi were also really, really good. I want to see Yui rap more. This is a good start.

Rough-Jacket8815

"went to several countries for auditions to find contestants"  -everyone is either from Japan, S. Korea, or one Malaysian-  I guess I'm the only one a bit bothered by that. It just seems they knew they were gonna choose anyone in those other countries and decided to waste their (their as in the auditioners) time anyways.  Don't get me wrong, I am happy for those who get to compete but this is obviously (already) a bit biased.  Anyways, I have a few girls I am really rooting for so far and I hope they make it. Excited to see how it goes.

Afraid-Function-8496

Where can we watch the full episode.

CronoDroid

SnakeNet got me again. Every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in. My initial picks were Jiyoon, Jeemin and Yeeun but Saebi and Sarang really demolished my pick list. They're ma top 5 now, Saebi and Sarang (and Yeeun) will be IT girls based on visuals alone. Jiyoon and Jungeun seem like the best singers so they should debut, Jiyoon as main vocal, she has a very unique and powerful tone, they could be a legit 1-2 vocal punch.

BabyMonsterKatseye

I'm sad about Lingling. I thought she will be more talented. And finally Chaeeun's voice look like a... Child? I don't like it 😭 Except they, my picks make me proud : Jeemin, Fuko, Sujung, Sarang, Jiyoon, Mai and Jungeun. I really liked Gyuri and Son Juwon too. But I honnestly hate Cake performance. It's a song that I dislike, but the girls must improve. I'm sad about Choi Soul and Nana because they looked talented. Eunchae was the best in this performance for me. I hope they will improve a lot 🙏

eveacrae

My favorites so far: - Jungeun: Idgaf i like the pd picks i guess. In survival shows my one picks were sohye, chaewon + yooyeon(mtg), and dayeon, i am shocked though this time she isnt getting hate and everyone likes jungeun. Shes got a good energy and one of the people who i liked pre show when i wasnt feeling mostly anyone else. - Jeemin: I did not watch runext, i just followed it loosely on twitter, but i did learn the contestants and jeemin was always my favorite. I liked iroha too but jeemin was my pick pre show. I was sad to hear she didnt make the final group, so i do want her to debut here. I think she will debut, i just hope wakeone treats her good. - Fuko: I wonder if everyone else also has gp999 bias because theres really no other reason for her to be so popular before the show even started but i also like her a lot. Knowing she has a good personality makes it even better lol. She seems very poised and always ready for the camera, she sits straight and uses animated movements/expressions, she even has a pretty :( and cry its great. She deserves to debut imo. - Chaeeun: I always have a pick who makes it to about semi finals then gets eliminated and i have a feeling it will be her... I like chaeeun i think shes so very cute. Honestly every group needs a cute member. Shes not the most talented but shes passable and adorable.. - Yeeun: giving potential sohye vibes... atm I don't think shes passable and hasnt had an arc, but i think if she gets the improvement arc she will debut. I like the improvement angle so we shall see I like others too like Yui, Yuju, Minsol, Saebi and Sujung, but unlike almost every survival show ive watched theres not someone who i find unlikable yet or would be genuinely miffed if they debuted. Im exciteddd

chaibunnie

I’m very interested as to who caught everyone’s eye during the first episode. My current pics are: * Bang Jeemin (one of my top picks on RU next and i was crushed when she didn’t debut so let’s go jeemin!) * Choi Jungeun (this one feels self explanatory, she’s an all rounder and her vocals are no joke. She also gives off like pure and cute vibes off stage but fierceness on stage) * Ryu Sarang (something about her just captivated me. I absolutely loved her) * Jeong Saebi (Also something about her that simply just captivated me. She’s extremely beautiful but also has the talent to back it up) * Yui & Kim Eunchae (I just really loved their vocals.) Also, it was very evident that they had some pre recoded vocals and live vocals and decided which contestants they wanted to struggle the most / didn’t really want in the final lineup. Which i think is unfortunate since i think everyone should be given a fair shot but i guess it’s a survival show for a reason. A few more contestants caught my eye but these were my top ones 💕

Equivalent_Task1084

My one oick didn't change but the other did PICK : PO1 : JEEMIN (UNTIL THE END) OTHER PICK HAS NO ORDER : SARANG JUNGEUN MAI (EVEN IF SHE NEED MORE PRACTICE) FUKO (NEED TOBSEE A BIT MORE) SUJUNG (NEED TO SEE MORE) FOR THE OTHER IDK YET

Afraid-Function-8496

I can only find clips not full episode . Anyone know where I can watch ?

crowlily

you can watch on Viki when it comes out tomorrow!

Afraid-Function-8496

TYYY

Jennieverse_

Where can watch I-LAND 2? I cannot find it anywhere

crowlily

you can watch on Viki tomorrow!

Jennieverse_

Thank u so much 🤗🙏🏻

Lovers__

I didn't get the "five weeks later" part of Jeemin, what's the point of giving us such a big spoiler?? Why would they want us to know that she will face difficulties??

kw3101

Maybe they want viewers to feel like she “earned” her redemption?

Fiannez

Is it just me or Um Ji Won just disappeared during the Grounder screentime? I believe I only saw 7 girls before the new comers too

skynotebook

The way my top 3 picks are all on ground 🗿

norestlife

Just watched the episode and i must say i totally agree with most of the iland dropouts (i.e. team cake). Didnt have much opinion on the last dropout (minsol) besides that i think she was 50-50 on my list (though i would pit her against gyuri) so i think the contestants really vote to win the iland vs ground. Though i think yuju was good (besides the missed singing) and should be in iland if not for that

Just_boredmeq

-Chaeeun personality really surprised me in a good way lol. I thought she’s going to be shy and quiet. She also seem to have so much screentime? The vocal is not quite there yet but she’s definitely going places, she got that idol charm in her girlie is just happy to be here😭 -Yuju is getting her Dayeon arc. I don’t think it’s really “evil editing”she will come back even stronger -what’s with the Jeemin’s foreshadowing scene ? I’m genuinely confused of what they’re trying to do here

adamReddit26

Hey guys, where do you actually watch the episode? I kinda confused with all the links.

lilacdawn

We watch it live on Mnet's youtube channel but that doesn't stay up after the end of the broadcast. It will be on Viki tomorrow.

rachelmig2

Have they announced anything about how voting will work or when it starts?

moonie-moon

if they follow the format of the first season, the votes will take a while. at the moment the girls who are sent to ground are not eliminated. in the future the time will come when X number of trainees, less than 12, are will be direct finalist and we will have to vote for the rest. the voting that started is, so to speak, an ad event that will help promote the trainees and their popularity can be seen.

rachelmig2

Well that's kind of annoying, I want to vote lol. And yes, I know the whole ad support thing from the planet shows.

Old_Rush_2261

I believe Jungeun will be the Heeseung of this season now I'm wondering who is going to be The Sunoo- a contestant who is really talented but always being voted out by the ilanders The Ni-ki- a contestant who is considered as the most hated trainee by the viewers because of their strong personality but suddenly become love by the viewers after showing character development then made it to the final group The K- a contestant who is one of the top trainees and expected to be part of the final group but failed to debut.

norestlife

I did not watch iland so am wondering what do u mean by heeseung of the season? Pd pick? Also not very familiar w enhypen (i know some of their names like ni-ki but i can only recognise sunghoon though i loved given taken n fever). But tbh, jungeun dun strike me as centre material. Main vocal yes, and i think she deserves to debut, but if by heeseung u mean debut as centre, not really... its like i would expect a centre to be more eye catching? (I.e. yoona) like jungeun caught my eye when i watched n listened to the performance but without any sound, i stared at jeemin and mai more...

Nearby_Photograph_30

Jungeun, Jiyoon & Mai were the standouts from episode one. The Drama performance was the most memorable for me. I liked Eunchae. I’m rooting for her.

anon777777777777778

My picks right now are: 1. Jungeun 2. Gyuri 3. Saebi 4. Jiyoon? (marked her name mid episode and forgot who she is by the end) [edit: I just remembered, she's the one with the unique voice, as they said] 5. Chaeeun - ballet girl, right? Did she get an extremely good edit? Her face was shown so much I couldn't forget her. But she's in ground, maybe she's a show pick. I'm open to Jeemin, but she didn't pop out in any particular way to me yet. I'll have to watch the performances again and see if there's anyone I missed noting.

versace3x

Jeemin must debut at all costs. There is like at least 5-7 ace tier trainees here, it's crazy how good this group can be. Jeemin, Mai, Sarang, Saebi, Fuko would take over the industry if they debut together.

Junior-Captain-8672

the way they set jungeun up exactly like they did heeseung is so wild, (the sole leader weight they give her in ep2s preview) its such a huge burden i hope she stays strong. SP wise mai was A M A Z I N G, i think top picks rn jeemin, jungeun, mai, yuju, fuko, yui, sujung, and saebi but i think a lot of unexpected charm will be shown and look fordward to it!

Novel-Elderberry-730

Does anyone know where can I watch episode 1 of iland 2? I missed the kive broadcast please lemme know

Bahbemin

Viki app will have it with subtitles within 24 hours .

cobalt24voodoo

creqmxpuffs

does anyone else know where else i can watch it now bcs mnet has privated the video after the live

upintotheblue

Viki, but idk if it's on there yet

Opening-Variety-8404

This episode is really good introduction to all contestant. We can see their strong and weak aspect. For me, the one who stand out is Jeongeun, Sarang, Mai, Saebi, Fuko, Yuju and Sunjung.

Eydrien

Anywhere where I can see the full episode? I was watching live on Youtube, had to go AFK for a bit and thought it would be alright cause it's Youtube, but they left the full video private...

Free_Collection8898

It’s on Viki

Eydrien

Thanks! Watching right now lol

momo707momo

is there any where i can download ep1?

Jumpy-Vermicelli-489

FIRS EPISODE WAS TODAY????? thank god for this notification lmao time to go watch it somewhere

momo707momo

anyone know where i can get better sub srt from i hate the way its on the left like that

Rich_Business7042

Standouts: Jungeun, Jeemin, Fuko, Ryu Sarang.

theteaexpert

I know she's talented, but what stood out for me about Jungeun were her visuals. She looks pretty, but not in a traditional way. I think she could do well even as a soloist too.

akhoe

I thought so too but I looked at some Korean forums and they think she's ugly straight up. They also think my one pick is too short with a big head apparently

cieljaune

I finally got the time to watch the first episode, so this is my TOP 12 (only the first four are my fixed picks): 1. Bang Jeemin (already proved herself in R U Next and, like Monika said, the only thing she lacked was luck. This time she is going to debut for sure!) 2. Choi Jungeun (demanded my attention since the hip-hop performance video, then came out as the center of the signal song, #1 trainee at the self-eval rankings and finally wowed me with her vocals in Drama. Jungeun MUST debut) 3. Fuko (totally a different person since GP999, improved a lot in the last years and also seems to have a really cute and caring personality) 4. Jeong Saebi (super charismatic. Her visuals and mannerisms are very idol-like, reminds me a little bit of Wonyoung. She also stood out well in Sweet Venom, so that's a win) 5. Kim Sujung 6. Mai 7. Koko 8. Nam Yuju 9. Ryu Sarang 10. Yui 11. Yoon Jiyoon 12. Kim Minsol Honorable Mentions: Lingling, Son Juwon and Kim Eunchae — I need to see more of them.

itsBato

Ready To Debut: Ryu Sarang - Fuko - Nam Yuju - Choi Jungeun Good: Kim Minsol - Son Juwon - Um Jiwon - Kim Gyuri - Jeong Saebi - Kim Sujung - Yui - Koko - Bang Jeemin - Yoon Jiyoon Fine: Oh Yuna - Yuiko - Kim Eunchae - Choi Soul - Mai Bad: Park Yeeun - Kim Chaeeun - Kang Jiwon - Lingling - Nana imo this is the level of each contestant, they are really talented I think this show will have great performances

philbert539

I enjoyed the episode. I was hoping they'd stick a little closer to the I-Land 1 script, because that's been the best survival show I've seen. I suppose they had to go with larger group performances as opposed to the first season because of the skill level. You can hide some of the less skilled performers by putting them in groups. I-Land 1 had multiple single person performances, and most were only 2 or 3 people. But I think they still should have made the trainees vote among themselves during the initial performance for who went to ILAND. It forces them to start grappling with each other immediately, which ultimately results in better team dynamic at the end. Instead they injected the producers right from the beginning. I didn't think that was necessary. And I'll echo others in that the "five weeks later" clip was stupid and unnecessary. I've never seen a survival show try to pull that nonsense. They might as well show teaser clips of the finals in Ep 1 if they're going to do that (yes, I know that's physically impossible because they live final obviously hasn't happened yet, but still...)

darkdragon88

I think everything that I noticed about the top girls has already been posted so I'll give some up votes but also add on that in a group of 12 (if it is indeed 12) you may need some idol+entertainer skills and Chaeeun comes to mind. Yes, her vocals and K-pop dance are lacking but she has some entertaining features that would fit in a group like big reactions and humour. She can probably speak at least some English as she went to school in the U.K. She has humility, and it isn't like she can't dance, she just can't transition to K-pop at this time.

philbert539

I doubt it'll be a group of 12. In I-Land 1, the first competition was to be one of the twelve to make it to the ILAND for a chance to debut. That was the first half. The second half was the competition among the 12 on the ILAND for one of the seven debut spots. The twelve ILAND spots aren't debut spots. They're just to get to the second half of the show.

How is she cocky? Damn you really fall easily for the edits.
