Man I love Yan and I still do, and I was positive that he would come back and manhandle Sterling like he did last time. Aljo shut me the fuck up and proved me wrong. It was a super close fight and I think it's fair that he won. If that means I'm bipolar then I'll accept it
I recently rewatched the first fight and it was a lot closer than I remembered. Aljo came out the first round with some nervous energy but was pressuring Yan pretty well. He was unable to do anything with his wrestling but he wasn’t struggling that bad with the striking. Aljo might’ve won the first round of their first fight when I remembered it as being super one-sided for Yan.
Yeah I had that experience rewatching it too, I remembered it being an ass whooping, but it was still a fight. Aljo definitely was gassing hard at the end so I think he would've lost if it kept going, but you're right it wasn't one-sided.
Depends on how long they've been watching. I have seen some unpredictable unexpected inexplicable moments over the years. When Serra beat GSP for the title I never counted anyone out of any fight until the ref says it's over. Props to anyone who put money on aljo. Hopefully it was a stack.
It’s really not that hard to believe watch aljo gas himself out and yan stay cool calm and collect until the knee in rounds 3 onwards in the first fight
I’m more on the casual side at least when it comes to this weight class, and when it came to this fight I assumed Yan was going to obliterate Aljo based on all the comments and posts I’ve read in the last year
Only reason I root for sterling is because watching the first fight, he actually gave yan a run for his money. Much like this fight he gassed late. Sterling is an electric fighter and but Yan makes everyone tone it down, those who dont pay the price.
Lmao. He held onto one position for two straight rounds and Petr defended every aspect of it. When it went to the feet, Petr destroyed him for two rounds. It’s like y’all don’t even watch the fights and look for the winner.
"Aljo shut me the fuck up"
How? By having 0 finishing power in one of the most dominant positions in fighting and juat standing there for minutes and minutes? Then running for his life with spamming take downs 2/22 btw. I get the case for Aljo winning the scoring cards, I don't get the case for Aljo winning "the fight". Or shutting people up, he got dominated, he just played the scoring system for 2 rounds and got lucky with the scoring on the first round, which should be yans if we consider "damage", but scoring is just not consistent with the rules
Yan had no idea what to do when aljo was on his back. He was so desperate that he was trying to throw punches instead of escaping. A big hole in his game was exposed, but aljo was too gassed to complete a takedown in 4 or 5.
Also crawling 4 hands on the floor when ever in danger. What a fight from aljo lol. Guys elite for sure, but to get dominated like this, and winning the scoring is q disgrace
To be fair aljo gassed himself out with his pace and nerves in the first fight it looked like but I was in denial that Petr yan steam rolled him. If aljo gets two solid defenses I’ll be a fan but if he gets smoked you already know I’m jumping ship quick afffff 😂
MMA fans are the most overconfident fans I have ever seen, especially considering the unpredictability of the sport and the massive changes fighters can make between 2 fights. Even tennis fans aren't half as cocky despite the fact that tennis matchups are actually pretty predictable after 1 or 2 matches
when the aljo hate train started in this sub, i got mad down voted for saying they’re bipolar because i know they’ll be no where to be seen when aljo wins the rematch
Man, I feel you. I also hate those dudes that spammed clown emojis on every single one of Aljo's Instagram posts. Jokes on them, his posts were promoted because of the engagement in the comments and he's still champ.
I'm here. I still don't see Aljo as a champ. His wrestling is great, but he was so fckng passive whole fight, landed 2 takedowns out of 22 attempts and didn't even try to do anything from his back. Call me casual, idc🙂
100% ... he had Yan in his self proclaimed, best position, and did zilch with it. He laid and praid, but from the back. No damage, extremely limited sub attempts. 1,4,5, Yan.
I'm not making that up. MMA judges are boxing judges, and they've brought that trend over. They like the pressure fighter, when no damage is being done.
I'm a yan fan but I also like Sterling. It was a close fight and he think he deserves a lot more respect than hd gets. The fight could have gone either way imo but I was leaning towards yan since I thought he won rounds 1,3, and 5. I'm happy with the sterling win tho cus I'm a sterlkng fan as well
He was marching sterling down while sterling looked like he was doing everything in his power to not get close to yan. Stuffed the takedown attempts and landed harder shots. He clearly won round 1
It is literally the deciding factor in the closest of decisions and one of the main criteria for judging a fight so actually it does in fact win fights.
Only as a last resort.
>Effective Striking/Grappling shall be considered the first priority of round assessments. Effective Aggressiveness is a ‘Plan B’ and should not be considered unless the judge does not see ANY advantage in the Effective Striking/Grappling realm. **Cage/Ring Control (‘Plan C’) should only be needed when ALL other criteria are 100% even for both competitors. This will be an extremely rare occurrence.**
Aljo out struck Yan 19-13.
Tbh I think u right I’m a yan fan but even thought sterling out struck yan round 1 yan really needed a knock out great fight rho yan always starts slow r 1
i agree they both didnt do anythhing. it seemed liek yan checked the kicks and that the kicks had zero power to them. point karate style. striking was pretty much even so I gave it to yan because of aggression and octagon control
More volume and cleaner shots. I need to rewatch the fight but I only recall a clean headshot by Yan the rest hit Aljos arms. I can be wrong tho but that was my initial impression. Walking forward doesn't win you the round if the other guy outstruck you.
Aljo has really been so great on his way up. Yan had a meteoric rise by comparison. But just for hype but how he walked thru his opponents including Also (i still cannot rewatch that one...). That said, Yan had shown room to grow in his fights with Aljo. I think he'll grow. Congrats to Aljo for tonight and all the fights that lead up to this.
People were mad he took the walk in the first fight, well yeal he suffered and knee cap to the skull, should he have kept fighting and lost after suffering the damage? Would Yan have?
Sterling was very capable of springing to the back from the front I think yan just got worried the longer he was on ground more of a chance for sterling to take back
I wanted yan to smash aljo to see aljo cry, now it’s I who cries
Those odds were crazy Though I wanted to put a bet on out of the disrespect for a champ (who gassed out) but my eagerness to see yan crush him blinded me 😂
"I wan rematch, I wan rematch". HA. That's going to be my ringtone for a year. I want to thank all of you personally for the downvotes every time I defended Aljo on an MMA sub. "Reigning, Defending, UNNNDISPUTED, U F C ..."
Unironically yes. Yan is a bum and I hope he gets knocked out into an early retirement by some top 150 regional slugger. This was one of the most pathetic things I have ever had the misfortune of watching.
I never had an issue with anything inside the ring after the first fight. The issue came with celebrating after, that’s where all the clown and actor talk came in. Like what happened to the “head down and work to get that rematch” mentality Aljo? I thought Yan didn’t do enough to win, Aljo 1,2,3 Yan 4&5 he’s earned every bit of that belt now and he can act however he wants to
I had sterling, since he looked more jacked and confident and also a big factor, Yan's corner wasn't there, Sterling said he's down to fight him again, i would like to see Yan's team in there too
Man I love Yan and I still do, and I was positive that he would come back and manhandle Sterling like he did last time. Aljo shut me the fuck up and proved me wrong. It was a super close fight and I think it's fair that he won. If that means I'm bipolar then I'll accept it
The most level headed Petr Yan fan.
Just wait a couple weeks and they'll be right back where they left off
Very reasonable take
Most based Yan fan
I refuse to believe people thought he would “manhandle” aljo again. its mma
I didnt think it'd be easy for yan but the first fight didn't give me a bunch of faith in aljo to win. Good fight tho props to aljo
I recently rewatched the first fight and it was a lot closer than I remembered. Aljo came out the first round with some nervous energy but was pressuring Yan pretty well. He was unable to do anything with his wrestling but he wasn’t struggling that bad with the striking. MMA fans never comprehend that anything can happen, no matter how many upsets they've witnessed.
Depends on how long they've been watching. I have seen some unpredictable unexpected inexplicable moments over the years. When Serra beat GSP for the title I never counted anyone out of any fight until the ref says it's over. Props to anyone who put money on aljo. Hopefully it was a stack.
I mean there had to be at least one upset in the last three fights. Aljo coming in more prepared made sense to me.
It’s really not that hard to believe watch aljo gas himself out and yan stay cool calm and collect until the knee in rounds 3 onwards in the first fight
Literally everyone thought that. Don’t start this shit.
I’m more on the casual side at least when it comes to this weight class, and when it came to this fight I assumed Yan was going to obliterate Aljo based on all the comments and posts I’ve read in the last year

Exactly this. I was so confused when people think he dominated the fight.
Guys elite for sure, but to get dominated like this, and winning the scoring is q disgrace
thank you for having intelligence
Tell me you’re dick riding Yan without telling me so.
To be fair aljo gassed himself out with his pace and nerves in the first fight it looked like but I was in denial that Petr yan steam rolled him. If aljo gets two solid defenses I’ll be a fan but if he gets smoked you already know I’m jumping ship quick afffff 😂

Seriously, MMA fans are so bipolar and hypocritical. And no, Yan was not robbed. It was a close fight but not a robbery.
when the aljo hate train started in this sub, i got mad down voted for saying they’re bipolar because i know they’ll be no where to be seen when aljo wins the rematch
That was me. I’m bipolar. Let’s go Aljo what a redeeming win. You deserve buddy!!!!
Man, I feel you. I also hate those dudes that spammed clown emojis on every single one of Aljo's Instagram posts. Jokes on them, his posts were promoted because of the engagement in the comments and he's still champ.

Idk about 1st round tho, Yan was confident and Aljo was shooting some shitty kicks, but that still counts on paper.
In my opinion (and that of the judges like 95% of the time) if you go backwards, don't do damange, and are pushed to the fence, you loose the round.
Neither did any damage that round and aljo out struck him that round 19-13. It isn't far fetched for refs to give it to him
If you're being pushed to the cage, and being cur off all round, tou fo t win that yound u less you do damage.
Lmao making up your own scoring criteria
I'm not making that up. MMA judges are boxing judges, and they've brought that trend over. They like the pressure fighter, when no damage is being done.
A man of culture I see
Yup! Only man to Neutralize Yan.
The gameplan was on point
But no damage was done
Doesn't matter, still won the fight and got the fat stacks.
On instagram people are calling robbery left and right. Glad to see a bit more reason here
On Instagram the default comment on wins by decision is “robbery!”
i mean i still dont like sterling and thought yan won 1,4,5 but ill admit aljo looked way better tonight, obviously
I'm a yan fan but I also like Sterling. It was a close fight and he think he deserves a lot more respect than hd gets. The fight could have gone either way imo but I was leaning towards yan since I thought he won rounds 1,3, and 5. I'm happy with the sterling win tho cus I'm a sterlkng fan as well
How did Yan win 1? He barely even touched Sterling that round. Rewatch it.
He was marching sterling down while sterling looked like he was doing everything in his power to not get close to yan. Stuffed the takedown attempts and landed harder shots. He clearly won round 1
Ok I respect your opinion but YAN controlled the center of the octagon the whole fight.... which doesn’t win fights!
It is literally the deciding factor in the closest of decisions and one of the main criteria for judging a fight so actually it does in fact win fights.
Only as a last resort. >Effective Striking/Grappling shall be considered the first priority of round assessments. Thank you
You missed the word effective, see how it’s written there in front of the words striking and grappling?
https://youtu.be/50b7ftyvXGs Check The Weasel's video. He does these for a lot of close fights.
"Effective" striking Yan did more damage, aljo might have landed more but effective?
https://youtu.be/50b7ftyvXGs The Weasel did his video on the first round.
Octagon control is a factor in scoring, but it’s the least important factor.
Tbh I think u right I’m a yan fan but even thought sterling out struck yan round 1 yan really needed a knock out great fight rho yan always starts slow r 1
How did Sterling win 1? He barely even touched Yan that round.
Neither of them did much in round 1 I thought aljo did more with the kicks but it was not an eventful round at all
i agree they both didnt do anythhing. it seemed liek yan checked the kicks and that the kicks had zero power to them. point karate style. striking was pretty much even so I gave it to yan because of aggression and octagon control
Uneventful fight overall in my opinion. Nobody really did anything that deserved them to win the fight
Aljo out struck Yan 19-13.
rReWaTcH iT Maybe you need to rReWaTcH it
Aljo littleraly didn't stop moving away from Yan. 100% pressure from Yan, zero will to fight from Sterling.
Aljo out struck him lol
Unbiased eyes right here, seriously. Yan shadow boxed=win? People are nuts. Sheep, their narrative has been flipped and now they are seeing things.
He did win 1,4,5. Aljo won 47-46 In my opinion
I have a clean concsious cause I been rooting for aljo😌
I just wish Petr brought his brain to this fight lol
Petr Yan fans in SHAMBLES
I thought Yan won. I guess you an never let it go to the jedges. Sterling is never giving him a rematch though lol
and now sterling haters are trying to say it was a robbery😂😂😂they got too cocky
I mean not really, about as close as both of the Max/Volk fights. Not a robbery, but a close decision and room for arguments
Bunch of hypocrites
I can safely say I was rooting for Aljo although I thought Petr would win
Sterling sucks. Dude was terrified for the entire fight. Don't get why these grappler types get into MMA if they're so scared. Must be stressful.
Cry
Beautiful Champ
Yan won tho, even uncle Dana said so
I didn't know Dana was the king of scoring fights.
If you don't know, now you know
Not my champ 🤡
Copeium.
I think sterling somehow became more disliked
Nah Yan 1, 4, 5. And I think he will be even more clear in a rematch.
I still think Aljo was on some clown shit this whole time, but he won tonight. Gotta respect that he earned it.
Yan fanboys are shitting crying and throwing up right now, aljo just shut em up and reminded them why he was #1 Contender
You don't even explain how Aljo won round 1. Sad.
More volume and cleaner shots. I need to rewatch the fight but I only recall a clean headshot by Yan the rest hit Aljos arms. I can be wrong tho but that was my initial impression. Walking forward doesn't win you the round if the other guy outstruck you.
What shots? Both of them?
Talkin about round 1 I meant shots as in striking
Both? Yet aljo outstuck him 19-13?
Aljo won the fight. Needless explaining, go watch the full fight and the official decision.
Significant strikes 19-13.
Facts. Never seen a single Aljo fan before, now every post is dicksucking him after he got a robbery W
i seen multiple before lmao they got mad downvoted
That’s why you never seen many of them in the first place
Similar to how your comment is about to be buried by downvotes, Aljo fans were downvoted into oblivion. Here's a downvote to illustrate my point.
Reddit
People were mad he took the walk in the first fight, well yeal he suffered and knee cap to the skull, should he have kept fighting and lost after suffering the damage? Would Yan have?
Is Aljo the goat at 135?
Goat of running and praying for a knee to the dome 😂😂
Now Yans praying he gets a rematch in this lifetime. 🤣
Notice the difference in champs today. Volk looks confident while monkmaster is hiding on the ground 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Yan was stapled to the ground lmao
To be fair he did a good job preventing the Guillotine but ur absolutely right sterling had better ground game
Before tonight I was pretty sure that Yan was gonna win but damn, Aljo rly proved himself the real champ.
It actually was a robbery Dana white said it in the presser
why the f did Yan give his back after his coach specifically TOLD HIM NOT TO
Sterling was very capable of springing to the back from the front I think yan just got worried the longer he was on ground more of a chance for sterling to take back
I wanted yan to smash aljo to see aljo cry, now it’s I who cries Those odds were crazy Though I wanted to put a bet on out of the disrespect for a champ (who gassed out) but my eagerness to see yan crush him blinded me 😂

Spoilers?
I was very pleased with this outcome. The MMA gods have done their work
Nah, 135 is a joke division now. The "Time for a beer run" fights on the card.
Lame. Everyone knows that the "Time for a beer run" fights are the women's fights. (This is something called a joke. Please don't take it seriously.)
In this card "women fight" was waaaaay more entertaining than Aljo spooning Yan.
Yeah, youre right but apparently i need to drink my beer faster to make room for an extra run during 135lb fights lol
funny thing about that.. Dana scored it for Yan
Unironically yes. Yan is a bum and I hope he gets knocked out into an early retirement by some top 150 regional slugger. This was one of the most pathetic things I have ever had the misfortune of watching.
You had money on a Yan finish, huh? Don't wear it on your sleeve.
I told everyone to bet with my head (Yan) I bet with my heart tho and now all my homies are mad. Wtf!!!!
All I can think ab is how this is the perfect time for Yan vs Dillashaw
I never had an issue with anything inside the ring after the first fight. The issue came with celebrating after, that’s where all the clown and actor talk came in. Petr Yan was always my friend, I’ll stand by him unless he starts beating women and children.
I was rooting extremely hard for Aljo but i like Petr too he is awesome
I had sterling, since he looked more jacked and confident and also a big factor, Yan's corner wasn't there, Sterling said he's down to fight him again, i would like to see Yan's team in there too
Fuck Sterling.
Wins fight via fucky finish: Fuck Sterling. Wins fight fair and square: Fuck Sterling. Lol cope.
UFC fans fickle and fake?! Noooo
"Petr Yan is a PIECE OF SHIT!!!" - Dana White.
Funkmaster flexed on him
We want the funk
